Spells are skills that can deal damage to an enemy or apply positive or negative effects to the caster, allies, or enemies. They are one of the two major categories for skills, with attacks being the other. Unlike attacks, spells are not affected by accuracy or evasion. They can be blocked, but it is unclear if everyone can block them or only players. Spells can also be dodged if Phase Acrobatics is on your opponent.
Spell suppression is great if you can get it, but there are other ways to build tankiness against spell damage. With enough practice, you can feel the spells coming before they’re even cast. Spells are offensive abilities that deal damage to targets based on damage defined by skill gems. Skills that deal spell damage have a Spell gem tag.
Passive Skill Points (PSP) are rewarded each time your character in Path of Exile is leveled or completes specific campaign quests. These points are allocated to the Passive Skill Tree, which, as the name suggests, is a collection of skills that deal damage to targets. Airborne projectiles can be aimed up and down cliffs and other height transitions, impacting the ground or ceiling.
Spells can miss if the target has a chance to evade spells, thus casters can ignore accuracy. While Melee and Bow/Ranged utilize this feature, spells always have unfair advantages over attacks. Spells can not only miss, but they can also be dodged and blocked.
In summary, spells are one of the two major categories for skills, with accuracy and evasion being the main factors. They can be blocked, dodged, or blocked, and only miss if the target has a chance to evade spells. Active skill gems play a crucial role in building tankiness against spell damage.

This video overviews the lucky spell suppression mechanic in Path of Exile and the situations when it is most beneficial.
Do spells trigger on hit PoE?
Triggering is a skill behavior that causes a skill’s effect to occur instantly when a condition is met, without requiring character animation. It is not the same as trap activation, which uses the same term for a different mechanic. Trigger skills do not interrupt ongoing actions, typically have a cooldown, and cannot be used manually. They can trigger while the character has zero action speed or is stunned. Their cost must be paid normally. Additional effects from 1-20 quality can increase the cooldown recovery rate.
How much accuracy is good in Poe?
It is recommended that the objective be set at 90, as attaining 95 is often challenging and may not be advantageous in all cases. Unless one is relying on critical hits, a damage output of 90-95 is inconsequential. When critical hits are involved, however, achieving a damage output of 95 is preferable.
Are triggered spells instant Poe?
Trigger effects are skills that activate instantly when a specified condition is met, without requiring an animation. They have slightly different behavior depending on whether they are an active gem or linked to a trigger gem or item. Modifiers on items and support gems that trigger a skill have a percentage-based Cost and Reservation Multiplier, meaning that triggered skills still require sufficient resources to activate.
Trigger effects can come in different forms, such as active trigger skills, which trigger an automatic skill without interrupting the player’s other actions, and support trigger skills, which require another skill as part of their triggering condition. Support trigger skills must be supporting a skill and cannot be used manually. Some support trigger skills must also be supporting a second active skill as the basis for their trigger condition.
Active trigger skills can be supported by trigger support skills, which require another skill as part of their triggering condition. Supported skills have increased attack critical strike chance, attack damage, and attack speed. Supported spells cannot be cast directly, and they are a Support Gem that does not grant a bonus to the character but to skills in sockets connected to it.
What is the chance to evade in Poe?
Evading an attack prevents all damage and harmful effects, including ailments and stun. Spells do not check for evasion, and the chance to evade is based on the defender’s evasion rating. The actual chance to be hit by an attack depends on the attacker’s accuracy. The chance to evade cannot be lower than 5, and the chance to evade cannot exceed 95. Two modifiers bypass evasion: Cannot Evade enemy Attacks (e. g., Unwavering Stance keystone or Ezomyte Peak Armour) and attacks using Hits cannot be evaded.
Evasion also gives an implicit chance to not receive critical strikes from attacks. If an incoming critical strike hit succeeds the initial hit/miss roll, a secondary check is performed to determine if it is a critical strike.
Can spells miss in PoE?
Spells are defined as skills that have the capacity to inflict damage upon adversaries or to exert beneficial or detrimental effects upon the caster, allies, or enemies. In contrast to attacks, spells fall into one of two principal categories. Spell damage is one of four potential sources, and can be mitigated by the application of spell suppression. The Kinetic Blast skill, which ranges in quality from 1 to 20, has the capacity to create additional explosions.
Can you dodge spells in Poe?
The game has introduced a new layer of damage mitigation called spell suppression, which can reduce spell damage by 50 at base value. The only source of dodge is the Acrobatics keystone, which allows players to dodge spell hits from spell suppression modifiers. This change is a significant change from the previous attack dodge, which was removed entirely, and spell dodge, a special stat only available from the Acrobatics keystone, which can be used to reduce spell damage.
Can spells be evaded PoE?
Evading an attack prevents damage and other harmful effects, including status ailments and stun. Only melee and ranged attacks can be evaded, and spells are automatically hit. The chance to evade is based on the defender’s evasion rating compared to the attacker’s accuracy. The chance to evade is limited to 0 to 95. Two modifiers bypass evasion: Cannot Evade enemy Attacks (e. g., Unwavering Stance keystone or Ezomyte Peak Quality), and attacks using Hits cannot be evaded.
Does spell damage apply to traps Poe?
It should be noted that traps are not buffed by attack/cast speed; rather, they are enhanced by trap nodes that facilitate laying speed. In regard to damage, nodes of the appropriate elemental type are effective, and Spell Damage provides a further enhancement, with the exception of Bear Trap.
Do spells have to roll to hit?
In spells, you roll an attack roll, aiming like a laser beam or touching a target that might not want harm. The “to hit” is determined by the ability modifier you cast and your proficiency bonus. Your turn consists of two main parts: moving and performing an action. On your turn, you can move up to your character’s speed, usually between 20 ft. and 40 ft. You can break this move up between actions, such as moving 10 ft. to a door and 20 ft. through it. However, some areas, like swamps, staircases, or broken furniture, are considered “difficult terrain”, and your speed is halved when moving through them.
What is the accuracy spell in PoE?
The accuracy rating quantifies a character’s probability of successfully striking an opponent with both melee and ranged weapons. It is subject to modulation by the defender’s evasion. Players may enhance their accuracy through the acquisition of skills, the use of appropriate equipment, or the development of dexterity, thereby attaining two base accuracy ratings for each point invested. The probability of an attack landing a hit is contingent upon the accuracy rating and the target’s evasion rating.
Can spells bleed Poe?
Bleeding is a condition that results in physical damage to a target over time, with the severity of the damage increasing in proportion to the target’s movement. This phenomenon is exclusive to attack skills and can be exacerbated to consistently inflict damage as if the target were in motion. It is possible for an attack to inflict one application of bleed if the different applications are inflicted independently.

Yes, basically, clicking suppress lucky on a build you are progressing is never a mistake. You already invested in suppression on the tree so this one point always guarantee at least 15% extra suppress. This is why many people on top of the tree will travel to Instinct, take the mastery and slowly build up their suppress chance. Ben_ just won the event using absolutely worthless trash gear in order to go as fast as possible. His gear was so unimportant that he never even spent time to use scraps to make it 20 quality. As soon as his gear was bearable, he hid everything. Instead of trying to improve suppress, he just added spell block to his build. Very instructive on how you can do everything to 100 with properly setting up your tree. He died to spell damage once and then just took the spell block on top. His gear had almost no mod, it was things you may replace while running t1 maps. 20% MS 49 life 22% res 29 dex boots, just nothing at all, bunch of half mods. Still he hid everything and started looting nothing at all to go faster and I think it was the fastest 1 to 100 race in SSF. 28 hours or something. But yes, the thing to remember is suppress is not the only way to protect from spell damage obviously. You have several other factors. Chaos res, PDR, +max res, spell block, all those factor in your overall ehp versus spell. If you have 75% res with little pdr, you basically need 100% suppress, it’s not even possible to do without. But if you scale more than one defense layer, then this just add on top.
lucky is almost always worth, the only time its not if ur close to 100% even without it, then getting few more extra for 100% is worth. i only play hc, most of my chars have like 85-97%isch spell suppression (with lucky and if i go for spell supression, like at least one spell supp wheel) so thats like 60-80%+lucky, its better to have 100% for sure but good gear with good spell supp is expensive. and honestly i never died so for because i didnt spell supress one spell. there isnt much in the game thats SPELL based and does huge damage, its mostly huge physical damage. and if ur char just dies to one spell if u dont supress hes prolly way too squishy in the first place.
Just “getting more” is going to give more chance. Duh. So, the only real thing you should be considering is opportunity cost vs “point-over-point per point” cost, both up and down. The math for a quadratic equation is awesome, but the reason for this vid is getting 100/53 is difficult, needlessly so.
