Carl Jung Was A Practitioner Of Chinese Astrology?

Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, was a pioneering evolutionary theorist who founded the school of analytical psychology. He became aware of the zodiacal shift of eon in his research on astrology, which focused on the charts of individuals. In 1955, he reported studying 800 charts, claiming that astrology is essential to his understanding of alchemy, which was key to his exposition of individuation in history. Jung credits astrology with helping to unlock the mystery of alchemy and providing the symbol language necessary for deciphering the historically remote.

Jung’s theory of the four basic personality types (thinking, feeling, sensing, intuiting) was presumably taken from the four Elements and Temperaments of traditional astrology. His contributions to psychology are well-documented, but he also had a deep interest in astrology and its connection to his work. In his book, Jung on Astrology, Keiron identified seven distinct theories of astrology that Jung entertained during his life.

Jung’s interest in astrology was an open secret during his lifetime, but in 2018 three volumes were published revealing his immense involvement. The astrological horoscope, observed by Jung in 1954, corresponds to a definite moment in the colloquy of the gods, or psychic. Jung inspired astrologers to return to the symbolic and amplify the starry heavens with astrology.

In a reciprocal manner, Jung’s research of Jungian psychology began with The Secret of the Golden Flower, as a Chinese national studying in a Western country.

Who believes in the Chinese zodiac?

The Chinese zodiac, also known as Sheng Xiao, is a myth dating back millennia. The Jade Emperor, the ruler of heaven, invited all earthly creatures to participate in a race to join the Chinese zodiac cycle. The rat, despite its small size, won first place. The ox followed, followed by the tiger, rabbit, dragon, horse, snake, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The myth changed as it spread throughout Asia, with elements such as sheep being replaced by goats.

The basic Chinese zodiac goes through a 12-year cycle of animals, with the animal changing every Lunar Year. For instance, the year of the rat began in 2008 and returned in 2020. Although fewer people believe in the Chinese zodiac today, the tradition lives on in Asian communities. The zodiac is believed to influence a person’s qualities, determine career paths, judge romantic compatibility, and even predict fortunes in the coming lunar year.

What did Carl Jung believe about astrology?

Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and founder of analytical psychology, developed the archetypal hypothesis in the twentieth century, inspired by western esoteric tradition. He observed recurring mythical themes or archetypes in his patients’ dreams, conversations, and paintings, which he proposed channeled experiences and emotions into recognizable patterns of behavior. Jung also observed a correlation between these archetypal images and the astrological themes associated with the planets and signs of the zodiac. He concluded that the symbolic heavenly figures described by the constellations were originally inspired by projections of images created by the collective unconscious.

In collaboration with theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli, Jung developed the theory of synchronicity, which posited that “whatever is born or done at this particular moment of time, has the quality of this moment of time”. Jung defined the correlations between the position of heavenly bodies at the time of birth and an individual’s development as acausal and not directly caused by the planets.

Several astrologers and psychologists pursued Jung’s theories in their writings, teachings, and practice. Dane Rudhyar and his protégé, Alexander Ruperti, were the first astrologers to combine Jungian psychology with astrology, resulting in the publication of Rudhyar’s “humanistic astrology”. Psychological astrology became firmly established in the late 20th century with the books and lectures of Liz Greene and Stephen Arroyo, both strongly influenced by the Jungian model. In 1983, Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas founded the Centre for Psychological Astrology in London.

Did Jung believe in dreams?

Dream work is a crucial aspect of analytical psychotherapy, as it can reveal patients’ psychological and physiological needs and the outcome of their treatment. Dreams have been extensively studied in psychoanalysis, depth psychology, and gestalt therapy. This study, based on the Jungian analytic model, uses dreams as an instrument to assess the aetiology, psychotherapy process, and treatment outcome of social phobia in a clinical case study. The method involves analyzing dreams to treat a female youth with social phobia.

Are Jung’s archetypes real?

Jung believed that the archetype, a form of the unconscious, was similar to the axial system of a crystal, which determines its structure without a physical existence. The archetype is empty and formal, and its expression depends on the circumstances in which it is activated. The representations of the archetype are not inherited, but rather correspond to instincts. A study published in Psychological Perspective in 2017 examined the ways in which Jungian representations are expressed in human experiences.

Archetypes are universal organizing themes or patterns that appear regardless of space, time, or person. They are organized as themes in the unus mundus, which Jung described as “the potential world outside of time”, and are detectable through synchronicities.

Jung’s intuition that there was more to the psyche than individual experience may have originated in his childhood, with dreams that seemed to come from a source outside himself. Later, his research in Burghölzli Hospital and self-analysis supported his belief in the existence of universal psychic structures that underlie all human experience and behavior. He initially referred to these dreams as “primordial images” and later as “dominants of the collective unconscious” in 1917.

Did Jung believe in Jesus?

C. G. Jung’s memoir, Memories, Dreams, Reflections, will be published by Pantheon Books this spring. Despite his sometimes unorthodox views, including his conception of a God who is not entirely good or kind, Jung’s deepest convictions are rooted in his allegiance to Christianity. The book, recorded and edited by Anna Jaffee, will include Jung’s reflections on God, which may seem theoretical to others but are as much a part of his life as eating and drinking.

Did Jung believe in Tarot?

Tarot reading, according to Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, is a process that uncovers the unconscious and follows clues of psychic alchemy. Jung discovered the internal Tarot of the human mind through his notion of archetypes, which are fundamental images that constitute the psychic constellation of the human being. In a pack of 78 Tarot cards, similar to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching, an entire mutant mental universe is ciphered, which can be used to form predictions.

Jung stated that we can predict the future by understanding how the present moment evolved from the past. This connection between the conscious mind and the unconscious is evident in the Tarot cards, which are visible manifestations of this connection. In 1933, Jung spoke about Tarot, stating that these cards are predecessors of the sets used to gamble, symbolizing individualization and playing with psychological images. The different combinations correspond to a playful development of humankind’s history.

Which philosophers believed in astrology?

Hellenistic astrology developed rapidly, with later practitioners and writers not following any single philosophical influence. Vettius Valens, a Stoic astrologer, indicates Stoic leanings. Claudius Ptolemy, an astrologer, astronomer, and geographer, used Aristotelian influenced arguments to portray astrology as a natural science, while dismissing some doctrine due to lack of systematic rigor. The later Platonic Academy had a fair share of astrological interest, with Thrasyllus acting as an astrologer to Emperor Tiberius and credited for works on astrology and numerology. Neoplatonists Porphyry, Iamblichus, and Proclus practiced or accepted some form of astrology, conforming to their unique contributions to Neoplatonism.

The idea of astrology as a systematic account of fate had a pervasive impact on influential thinkers of the time who helped shape the theoretical and cosmological understanding of the practice. Thinkers in the skeptical Academy and Pyrrhonic schools sought to attack the theoretical underpinnings of the practice of astrology, using arguments centering around freedom, the ontological status of stars and planets, and the logical or practical limitations of astrological claims.

The philosophies and philosophical schools of the Hellenic and Hellenized world made the spread and acceptance of Babylonian astrology possible. Fate, fortune, chance, and necessity were often interchangeable in early Greek thinking, with the gods’ intervention in human affairs presenting the possibility of two paths of fate based on moral choice.

  • Astrology is very real but many of you don’t even understand what real astrology is. All you know about is sun signs. We humans were created and everything about us is unique. Also some of us can literally LOOK at people and know what placements they probably have in their chart . I can’t lie though it’s cute seeing people try to disprove astrology. That’s like trying to disprove the weather. It just is what it is lol it’s nothing to be disproven.

  • All the people shitting on astrology have no idea what it even is our the complexity of it. It’s not just about sun signs, there is so much depth to it. It’s a practice that has been around for over 4000 years. Anything that has been around that long and not faded holds merit, in my opinion. You can disagree with the concept of astrology but you don’t have to be rude and call people stupid or gullible or whatever have you cause they like something like astrology.

  • The only thing the stars have to do with astrology is what star constellation was in the sky when you were born other than that everything in astrology is based on social dynamics in the earths cycles, and how people respond to those very cycles Realistically, most astrologers, don’t know ish about astrology just as much as u guys don’t

  • Jesus told when a person slaps you show the other cheek. What that means is you don’t REACT! The same thing is what yogis do, they avoid reacting to all the internal and external impulses. Because when you react you fall in the karmic trap of these planets, which is true. That is what jesus and yogi’s are teying to save you from. (The matrix/The physical world)

  • As above, so below. Unfortunately, you have forgotten our human heritage and the teachings of our ancestors. Each astrological sign represents a portion of each one of us. We cannot escape this truth. The Sun of the Creator governs our entire planet. It is pure ignorance to think that the Cosmos does not effect us.

  • Just think how you feel different on a sunny day compared to a cloudy winter day. The sun’s influence seems to be more obvious compared to other planets’ influence but is it really hard to imagine it MIGHT have a lot of influence on our life on earth. Its literally GIANT balls floating in our solar system, bigger than our own planet. Disclaimer im not a scientist but i’m interested in character traits and understanding myself better in order to improve my life

  • In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.. Astrology is not permissible in islaam. The Creator is Allaah Exalted and Most High ☝️🕋 as is well known. To whom belongs the Kingdom of the Seven Heaven’s and Earth 🌎 and all in Between. Everything comes as his Creation so Worship is only for him for which we are Created too. Idol Diety and Statue Worship,Norse,Sumerian,Aztek,Avatars and Greek Gods or Goddesses are no more than Untrue Myths that have no right to be Worshipped and this why all False Dietys are forbidden by the Prophet Ibraheem until the last day.. God’s Grace and Mercy is more than we can imagine so nobody needs to go through any Idols or Dieties. Prophet Ibraheem was the Father of the Prophet’s and all The Prophet’s were Paternal Brothers so no exemption can be made, even with the Final and Seal of the Messengers. Prophet Muhammad. Peace be upon them all and families. .

  • Love this guy! My birth chart is so bad, but let me tell you, it’s kinda accurate with me. But the great thing is that I will work my f**ing a* off to get my life better. i remember getting exposed to this as a kid after being told I’m a cancer zodiac. Since then, I’ve gotten turned down by astrology, because everything seems to be negative in my chart. But now, I know its all the work of the devil, trying to get me to give up🙄
