A magic square is an NxN matrix where every row, column, and diagonal add up to the same number. To construct a perfect magic square, follow these steps:
- Copy one of the squares from here and you are done.
- Use a magic square calculator to create any size, such as 3×3 or 5×5, by choosing the size of the square.
- Construct a magic square of even order by reversing the order of the rightmost n/2 columns and the order of the bottom n/2 rows. Divide the square into 2×2 subsquares.
- To create a new magic square, draw a 4×4 blank grid and choose a two-digit number higher than 20 or ask your volunteer to select it.
- List the nine consecutive numbers in order and add them up then divide by three. The very middle number in a consecutive number list is the number for the middle.
- A magic square is an N×N grid of numbers in which the entries in each row, column, and main diagonal sum to the same number (equal to N(N2+1)/2).
