Magic Johnson, an NBA legend, and his wife Cookie Johnson have been married since 1991. They met in college and have been together for over 40 years. They have two children, EJ and Elisa, and faced challenges such as Magic’s HIV diagnosis and brief separation. In their book “Believing in Magic: My Story of Love, Overcoming Adversity, and Keeping the Faith”, Cookie shares her story of how she and Magic worked through their differences and have now been happily married for over 30 years.
Magic and Cookie Johnson have faced challenges such as Magic’s HIV diagnosis and brief separation. In 1991, they married in a small wedding in Lansing, Michigan, with guests Thomas, Aguirre, and Herb Williams. Magic had to retire early from the game due to his HIV contraction, which devastated his family. However, Cookie focused on Magic’s life and found forgiveness following her divorce from ex-husband Kendu Isaacs.
Magic and Cookie have been happily married for over 30 years, and they celebrated their 32nd anniversary with a sweet Instagram Reel showing photos of the couple over the years. In May 2024, Magic Johnson revealed that he and Cookie would have divorced “Fast” if they married while Magic was in the NBA. Cookie once threatened to end her marriage with Magic if he didn’t follow through on something they agreed on.
In 2001, the couple secretly separated for two weeks without any tabloids or media finding out, putting Magic’s $620 million fortune in danger.

Magic may be great, sweet, all of that. I can’t help this though; everytime I see him or hear his name it sickens me to the core. His name, to me, equals money and fame saving life over everyone else. It’s not right, it’s not fair. So many suffered and died the most awful death with AIDS. He sleeps around, infects who knows how many women, they suffer, he gets treatment that others don’t, gets cured. Why can’t everyone? Money, fame.
