Good Omens is a series that features various angelic characters, including Gabriel, Michael, Uriel, Metatron, Saraqael, Muriel, and Sandalphon, all with origins in biblical texts and religious traditions. The show follows various characters who try to either encourage or prevent an imminent Armageddon, as seen through the eyes of the angel Aziraphale. Michael Sheen and David Tennant return to lead the cast in the sixth season, which hit Prime Video on July.
Angels serve as major characters and antagonists in Good Omens, as they are celestial beings who reside in Heaven and serve God. Metatron, the voice of God, may be one of the highest angels due to his close proximity to God. In the series, Gabriel and his companions are likely Archangels, but they are still jerks.
In Good Omens, the angels and demons are motivated by the Great Plan, believing they must bring about the apocalypse. The show’s angelology is based on five contradictory Jewish angelologies, and the cast includes Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Miranda Richardson, and Jon Hamm. The cast aims to create a unique and engaging experience for viewers, blending Christian themes with religious themes.

Is Metatron an angel in Good Omens?
In Thomas Pynchon’s novel Gravity’s Rainbow, an inmate proclaims himself to be Metatron, which is a parody of Kabbalistic accounts of the ascent of the soul. Metatron appears as an angel and spokesperson of God in Good Omens and its 2019 TV adaptation, played by Derek Jacobi. He was originally a human named Enoch before becoming a high-ranking angel and Regent of the Kingdom of Heaven. In the 2019 BBC/HBO TV adaptation, he is portrayed by Alex Hassell.
Metatron appeared in the 1999 movie Dogma as an angel and the voice of God, played by Alan Rickman. Guitarist Carlos Santana said in 2000 that he has been in contact with Metatron since 1994, and that the angel gives him messages. Metatron also appears in the TV series Supernatural as the scribe of God, played by Curtis Armstrong.
The name Metatron is also mentioned in various religious texts, such as Adam Kadmon, Abatur in Mandaeism, Sandalphon, Theophany, and Yufin-Yufafin in Mandaeism. There are two spelling variations of Metatron in the Talmud: the full spelling (מיטטרון), which uses the consonant yod as a mater lectionis, and the slightly shorter and more common spelling without the yod. The full spelling may also indicate that the name has its origins in the word Mīṭāṭōr, referring to a measurer of boundaries or an officer sent in advance of persons of high rank or troops to lay out the camp or arrange quarters.

What kind of angel is Aziraphale?
In Good Omens, the angelic hierarchy is explained, with Aziraphale (Sheen) being a Principality in the lowest order. He is below Seraphim, Cherubim, Dominions, Virtues, and Powers. Principalities guide and protect living things, inspire art and science, and carry out orders from upper sphere angels. Aziraphale has a boss, the archangel Gabriel (played by Jon Hamm), who is the primary messenger of God and best known for the Annunciation. The Metatron, the Voice of God, is also present in the celestial hierarchy.
In James Bond’s Bond, Crowley (Tennant), drives a vintage black Bentley with unique idiosyncrasies, such as not needing gas, remaining scratch-free, and turning any CD left in it for over a fortnight into an album by Queen. The character’s narration is a representation of the voice of God.
What religion is Good Omens based on?
The authors of Good Omens make use of a variety of references to biblical passages, common biblical knowledge, and popular versions of Christian myths, frequently citing specific verses directly, in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Christian faith.
Who are the angels in the good omen?
Angelic names often relate to the angel’s relationship with God or an aspect of God. The ‘El’ at the end of angelic names means ‘God’, as it can refer to various gods. In Good Omens, there were eight prominent angel characters: Gabriel, Michael, Uriel, Saraquel, Muriel, Sandalphon, Metatron, and Aziraphale. Five of these characters had god-related names. Michael, meaning ‘who is like God?’, was a suitable name for a powerful archangel. Gabriel, meaning’my strength comes from God,’ was fitting for the supreme archangel and leader of Heaven’s forces.
Uriel, the light of God, was believed to be the one of prophecy and wisdom. In Season 2, Uriel attempted to bring Michael back down to earth, taking Gabriel’s place as the leader. Saraquel, the newcomer, was named ‘beloved by God,’ as she warned everyone not to mess with them. Finally, Muriel, the sweetest and most clueless angel in Heaven, first appeared in Season 2 and was supposedly translated as’smells like God.’
What is the name of Crowley’s angel in Good Omens?
In the 1700s, Crowley rescues Aziraphale from guillotined during the French Revolution, using the nickname “Angel” to refer to him. They go out for crêpes. In the 1800s, Crowley worries about their friendship being discovered and asks Aziraphale for “insurance” in the form of Holy Water. Aziraphale refuses, believing Crowley wants it as a “suicide pill”. In 1941, Crowley saves Aziraphale from being shot by Nazi spies and uses a miracle to save his prophecy books, which touched Aziraphale.
Was Crowley once an angel?
Good Omens season 2, episode 1 introduces the first encounter between Aziraphale and Crowley, a meeting before the universe’s start. Crowley’s angel name remains a mystery, highlighting his past as an angel. The absence of one Archangel in Heaven has led to speculation that Crowley might be the fallen Archangel Raphael. The season 2 premiere amplifies this theory by setting the universe in motion but never sharing his name. Crowley’s collaboration with God, the “concept designer” of the universe, implies that he has authority to influence divine plans.
Raphael is traditionally associated with fostering harmonious unions, love, and marriage, which is reflected in Good Omens season 2’s narrative. Crowley tries to unite Nina and Maggie through an orchestrated natural phenomenon, and his encounter with Muriel in episode 6 demonstrates his ability to gain access to Heaven’s interface, something only a higher-up member of Heaven can do.

What kind of demon is Crowley?
Crowley, originally Fergus MacLeod, is a fictional character on the American paranormal drama television series Supernatural, portrayed by Mark Sheppard. He is known as the King of the Crossroads and the King of Hell in Lucifer’s absence. Crowley is introduced mid-way through Season 5 in the episode “Abandon All Hope.”, where the series’ protagonists Sam and Dean Winchester learn that Crowley had taken The Colt from Bela Talbot in Season 3. Crowley uses The Colt to kill his own men and shares the Winchesters’ goal of killing Lucifer, as he suspects that Lucifer would kill all demons once he has killed all humans.
When The Colt fails to kill Lucifer, Crowley is forced to go on the run to evade retribution from Hell’s forces for his betrayal. He aids the brothers in “The Devil You Know” to help them find Pestilence and retrieve his ring by orchestrating the capture of a high-ranking demonic minion of Pestilence’s and ultimately manipulating the demon into revealing Pestilence’s location. He then manipulates the Winchesters’ long-time ally Bobby Singer to “lend” Crowley his soul in order for them to find Death, with Crowley assuring Bobby that he will rescind his claim on Bobby’s soul once Lucifer is imprisoned.
In Season 6, Crowley goes back on his promise to Bobby and plans to keep Bobby’s soul, but is eventually forced to return Bobby’s soul to save his own life. He has become the King of Hell since Lucifer’s imprisonment in the Season 5 finale. Crowley reveals himself to be manipulating hunters into working for him by capturing monsters and claiming to restore Sam’s missing soul. However, when he admits to lying, the angel Castiel seemingly kills him. It is later revealed that Crowley is still alive and trying to find Purgatory in secret, and he and Castiel have been working together all along to find it.
In the season finale, Crowley forms an alliance with Castiel’s enemy Raphael, who sabotages their spell to open Purgatory before taking all of the souls therein for himself. Crowley makes his escape, leaving Raphael to be killed by Castiel.

Omg I loved this interviewer Very good questions, awesome energy, you can tell he knows both of them well, kept a very fun mood, like genuinely made the two laugh, and let Michael and David just talk to one another really Like this interview was the longest I’ve seen Michael and David look at each other and be able to really discuss with the other An absolute treat
David is a pure Angel-baby 24/7 unless he turns his Kilgrave or otherwise on and even then, I tend to forgive him easily. Michael is a real life angel because he does a SHITTON of good when it comes to charity, more than people will ever know, but as soon as he turns on the charm…oooh boy. tempation CITY! So, actually really like in the show. they both can do both – perfect casting 😀
