The anime provides a summary of the various cards and their effects, including the “Defensive Power” effect, which weakens Slifer by 700 ATK but expires at the end of the turn. The “Wicked Avatar” is the most interesting card, as it prevents opponents from activating spells and traps until the end of their second turn after being Normal Summoned. Obelisk cannot be targeted by card effects, and Odin can become immune to spell/traps for a turn. Loki can negate a spell/trap during the Battle Phase, but Thor wins.
The “Once per turn” ability allows players to negate the effect, and pairing with at least two monsters allows opponents to leave their monsters behind. The “Cannot be targeted by Spells, Traps, or card effects” effect requires Skill Drain, not Effect Veiler. The “Cold Wave” effect locks opponents out of spell and trap activations for about four turns.
The Egyptian God cards are immune to Trap, Magic, and Monster effects, so the only way to defeat one is to summon a stronger card and defeat it in battle. God cards cannot be targeted by any card effect, but can be destroyed by Dark Hole or Mirror Force once the first.
In the real card game, some spell and trap cards can affect the god cards even on the round they’re summoned. However, in the anime, some god cards can be destroyed by Dark Hole or Mirror Force once the first. God cards are immunue to monster, magic/spell, and trap effects, but not immune to a monster strong enough to destroy them.

How does Yugi defeat Slifer?
Yami Yugi employs a formidable combination of techniques to vanquish Slifer, resurrecting Buster Blader through the use of Monster Reborn, obliterating Revival Jam, and assuming control through the deployment of Brain Control. This ultimately leads to the activation of Card of Safe Return and the manifestation of Slifer’s secondary mouth effect.
Can god cards be affected by spells and traps?
It is possible for certain spells and traps to affect god cards even during the summoning round. A variety of techniques can be employed to circumvent this spell block. It should be noted that spells which impede or influence the direct attack of a god card are always effective.
Is Slifer affected by spells and traps?
This card is face-up on the field and cannot be targeted by spells, traps, or monster effects. Osiris, the Egyptian god of life, death, and fertility, is one of the oldest gods with records dating back to 2400 BC. He was widely worshiped until the Christian era when paganism was suppressed. Osiris was not only the redeemer and judge of the dead in the afterlife but also the underworld agency that granted all life, including sprouting vegetation and the fertile flooding of the Nile River.
The Kings of Egypt were associated with Osiris in death, inheriting eternal life through imitative magic. By the New Kingdom, all people, not just pharaohs, were believed to be associated with Osiris at death if they incurred the costs of assimilation rituals.
Are the god cards banned in tournaments?
The Egyptian God Cards, originally printed as TCG/OCG cards, are illegal due to their limitations and backings, making them count as marked cards. They were released in Japan as a pre-order bonus for the Game Boy Color game Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelist in 2000 and reprinted as pack-in cards for the Game Boy Advance game Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters International — Worldwide Edition in 2003. Other cards included “The Winged Dragon of Ra” as a pack-in card for the Xbox game Yu-Gi-Oh!
The Dawn of Destiny in 2004, “Slifer the Sky Dragon” as a pack-in card for the ani-manga of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light, and “Obelisk the Tormentor” as a promotional card for Shonen Jump magazine subscribers in 2005.
How do the god cards work?
The three Egyptian god cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX share similar effects, such as requiring a tribute of three monsters to summon from your hand to the field, being unaffected by Trap Cards while attacking, and being controlled by only chosen duelists linked to the ancient past. When special summoned in the opponent’s turn, the god card can be used as a shield for all monsters controlled. In episode 85, a copy of The Winged Dragon of Ra is stolen by a disgruntled card designer, who later duels Jaden Yuki.
The card’s immunity from spell cards is not fully disclosed, but it seems to add a different ruling to existing perceptions. In Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour, the Egyptian god cards are affected by non-target card effects like Gravity Bind, Field Spell Cards, Smashing Ground, and Mirror Force. They are also Tribute Summoned by offering three monsters and are destroyed at the end of the turn during the End Phase.
Can god cards be destroyed by card effects?
This card is a special monster that cannot be Normal Summoned or Set except by Tributing 3 monsters. If Special Summoned, it is destroyed at the end of the turn. The card is unaffected by Trap Cards or other Monster Cards’ effects, cannot be returned to its owner’s hand, and cannot be destroyed by a Spell Card. Control of the card cannot switch while it is face-up on the field. The card cannot be Tributed and cannot declare an attack the same turn as activating the effect of offering 2 monsters on your side of the field as a tribute to destroy all monsters on your opponent’s side and inflict 4000 points of Direct Damage to their life points.
What spell card destroys traps?
The “Heavy Storm” is a powerful spell that destroys all Spell and Trap Cards on the field. If you set everything on your first turn and your opponent plays it, you lose all your cards and have no defense. However, your opponent still has all their cards, giving them a significant advantage. Duelists often set only one Spell or Trap Card, but this is not a safety measure. If your opponent destroys both Trap Cards with “Heavy Storm”, you won’t be able to use them. Once your opponent has used “Heavy Storm”, you can set multiple Spell or Trap Cards, intimidating your opponent and allowing you to use your best cards at the best times.
Can slifer be negated?
The “Selfer the Sky Dragon” card is a special summoned monster that requires 3 tributes to Normal Summon and cannot be negated. It requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon and cannot be Normal Set. Its Normal Summon cannot be negated. If Special Summoned, it gains 1000 ATK/DEF for each card in your hand. If a monster is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent’s field, it loses 2000 ATK and can be destroyed if its ATK has been reduced to 0. This card is part of the “Dark Side of Dimensions” Movie Pack Secret Edition.
How good are the god cards?
The show and manga depicted monsters with an unparalleled physical presence, not merely holograms, but also featuring ancient spirits with formidable abilities. This rendered them a significant challenge for players to confront.
What is the strongest god card?
Ra, the Egyptian God Phoenix, is the most powerful and invincible duelist in Yu-Gi-Oh!, with its attack level going to zero when targeted with De-Fusion. This form is immune to all effects and receives zero battle damage from duels involving it. The three god cards represent a pyramid hierarchy, with the Winged Dragon of Ra representing the top. Obelisk and Slifer represent the base, with Ra being both equal and less powerful. The March 2023 banlist update also revealed the banlist update for the Master Duel.
What happened to Yugi’s god cards?
By the conclusion of the season, Yugi Mutou has amassed ownership of all three of the god cards: Slifer the Sky Dragon and The Winged Dragon of Ra. Despite being returned to Ancient Egypt at the conclusion of the original anime series, their legacy persists in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.

So I have a fun story involving the god cards. I was dueling my friend, who had the illegal version of the Winged Dragon of Ra his deck (we based its effects off the anime, it was around the GX era), and he had summoned it to the field. He also had a Wingweaver (2750 ATK) on the field. He used Ra’s “reduce your LP to 1” effect from the anime and was one turn from beating me. I drew my final card: it was Monster Reborn. I played it, special summoned Cosmo Queen (2900 ATK) from his graveyard and attacked Wingweaver. Since he only had 1 LP I won the duel. Edit: You gotta read the replies, there’s a guy who thinks you can’t attack with Special Summoned monsters, but is so stubborn and keeps doubling down despite being absolutely proven wrong and it is glorious
I think the god cards could become more viable if they got some extra deck cards that auto-equip themselves from the extra deck to a specific god card when it is summoned. This would allow the god cards to get an indirect buff, and would allow Konami to continually keep them up to date as the game’s power level increases.
The funniest thing about Ra. In Tag Force games up to 3. It also had one more of its anime effects where it gains attack equal to the combined attack of the monsters you tributed. This was removed in Tag Force 4 and on as the real card was already printed by that point. I have no idea why they removed that effect as it wouldn’t make Ra anymore relevant.
Funny story. When I first saw the English printing effect for Ra I thought that Konami must have made a big typo or something as the card had “?” Atk and def and no way to determine the original value. I also thought there was no way they would intentionally make it this bad and that they would errata it.
The only time I consistently played a god card (except sphere mode if that counts) was obelisk to beat dragon rulers when they were at their best. Hardened armed obelisk is very inconsistent but was almost insurmountable in a time where non targeting non destruction or kaiju like removal was very rare
You kind of “missed” the Pyramid of Light, which in the movie has the express effect of deleting the Gods. Although, in the actual game they made it delete other 2 random cards. Back when I played YuGiOh with my friends we always used the anime effects for the gods and the pyramid, it made duels more fun than the actual rules lol.
I think part of the reason why they are so hard to summon is to sort of stick with the anime, since they are one of the most iconic cards from the show. The whole idea of them in the show is that they are incredibly hard to bring out because they are these giant boss cards but once you do bring back them out you have basically won the duel unless you either have some serious cheese or another god card to your name. It makes them sort of terrifying in a way because your opponent does bring out on the field even if you have one of those answers if you don’t have them in your hand or whatever you have to draw them soon or you will just lose and if you don’t have them at all it’s basically an auto-lose. So I think they were trying to capture that same sort of feeling but the cards themselves clearly aren’t good enough once they hit the field to give off that same kind of power.
7:56 use 2 copies of “Card Advance” when using “True Name” If you have both in your hand or at least Card advance, you can see the next 5 cards and re order them in any order. With both, you can play card advance, see the next 5 cards, play True Name, and call the card correctly. Just be careful when you do things as to not accidentally shuffle the deck. I also use the Nimble monster in my god deck. I’m working on making a better deck, but I enjoy using the Nimbles.
Usually I love cards based off of episodes, but Magical Trick Mirror is like everything I hate about such cards. Overcomplicates the anime effect, adds in the overused banish effect, and ties into a completely unrelated card, because they were in the same episode once, even though it was used in 3 episodes without Obelisk even being mentioned. Plus, that “All monsters must attack” effect would’ve been real useful in like, 2005.
I think an errata for all three Egyptian God Cards (EGCs) could help make it more splashable. – Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set); this card’s may treat link counters as cost for it’s tribute summon. – This card’s Normal Summon cannot be negated. – This card is unaffected by opponent’s card effects. – Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the GY. – Once per turn, negate one card effect. Unique effect – Ra – Attack/def == the total attack/defense of tributed materials. (this punishes Ra summon by link monsters) – Banish 2 cards + from hand and one from top of deck to to remove from play opponent’s board; Ra cannot attack the turn this effect was activated. – (if possible) Floats into Pheonix (from the hand, deck, or grave) the next time opponent enters battle phase. Obelisk and Slifer are good as is. Too much card text? XD
I once made a casual deck that revolved around Ra. I combined it with the Danger! archetype since it’s a good draw fodder and the goal was to get ancient chant asap so I could summon Ra with the help of the Egyptian God Slime. The 3K inherited from the slime, plus what I payed from my own LP was usually enough to kill whatever my opponent had on the field and deplete their LPs. It was extremely hard to pull off, even against other casual decks, but when I did, it was extremely satisfying.
“Or stacking your deck and using The True Name” man… I felt that. LOL In all seriousness, one very important combo you missed was pairing True Name with Card Advance. It let you “legally” stack your deck to call the right card all the time AND included a Double Summon mechanic that would also let you do a tribute summon in addition to your normal summon, very good in Slifer and Obelisk decks since they specifically need the help (Ra decks function perfectly fine without using True Name/Card Advance).
Slifer is too underrated it literally pops any monster normal summoned as your opponent won’t play a level four or lower monster with over 2k atk and with jokers wild plus thunder speed you can get out two which plus mound of the bound is a surprisingly op combo insta killing most cards summond and if a monster survives the drop just die on you turn as it doesn’t end after the turn like it does in the anime. Plus the recycle on the joker cards keeps slifer at a good atk power plus piercing the darkness means your hand size never goes down.
Full power Ra would be something like: “Requires 3 tributes to normal summon. This card’s normal summon cannot be negated. When normal summoned, other cards and effects cannot be activated. Neither player can target this card with card effects. This card’s original ATK and DEF are equal to the combined ATK and combined DEF of the monsters used for its tribute summon. During your main phase: you can pay LP in multiples of 100; this card gains ATK equal to the LP paid until the end of the turn, also during the end phase, gain LP equal to the LP paid. You can pay 1000 LP; this card is unaffected by other cards’ effects until the end of the turn, also send 1 other monster on the field to the GY. During the end phase: If this card left the field this turn because of another card, and is now in the GY or hand, or banished face-up; special summon this card. During the end phase: If this card was special summoned by another card’s effect; send it to the GY. During the end phase, if this card was on the field at the start of the End phase: you can destroy all face-up cards your opponent controls that activated their effects on the field this turn.” Big chunky text box there, lol.
They did give more support in the form of “The Revived Sky God”, “The Breaking Ruin God” and “The True Sun God”. “Breaking Ruin” does help get Obelisk out from your hand or GY and is actually useful. “The Revived Sky God” only works if you already have Slifer in your GY and you can bring him out maybe twice because it allows you to top-deck “Monster Reborn” but still very niche.
Ra being able to gain attack and defense equal to the combined totals of the monsters used to tribute summon it was the one effect I actually expected it to keep from the anime. We had already had cards that did the same or similar, such as Maju Garzett, for years by the time it was officially released.
I agree with the Idea of more generic Spell & Trap support for the Gods, focused on their shared “Devine” Attribute for their search and Summon. But even more i believe they should have a better Version of the Idea behind “Ra´s Desciple”. What i mean by that is a, or rather, a few MD Monsters who interact with the Devine Attribute in Ways that makes them special onto the Field to create the needed Tributefodder, and maybe also have lingering Effects to give the Gods the Immunities they should have/need in modern YGO
How to fix them Retrain them like they did that sacred beast card. 1) give ra it’s atk and def by combining the atk of all monsters used in its summon 2) let olblik use any 2 monsters for its effect to board wipe 3) give them all the following text “unaffected by other card effects except those of divine beast type” 4) searching for them easier, even dedicated ra decks struggle to do this (from what I’ve seen in master duel)
I think a cool card you could have mentioned is “Hardened Armed Dragon”. You can special summon it by sending a lv. 8+ monster from your hand to the graveyard, and if you use it as tribute fodder for a lv 7+ monster, that monster can’t be destroyed by card effects. I used it on my Earthbound Immortal decks to make them immune to their own self-destroying effects, and it would probably be a good way of raising the god cards defense against removal (especially Obelisk, who would become immune to targeting and effect destruction)!
you guys know the monsters that have the effect to be used as 2 tributes for their corresponding attribute? there’s one ofeach but divine. Fun fact: the reason there’re only 5 (6 if you count holactie) divine with those 5 being divine-beast (holactie is creator god), is because their playable print was way after the wicked and aesirs. Yes, the wicked and aesirs were divine attribute with divine-beast type but were changed because the gods were not legal yet.
The funny thing is, Konami probably forgot that “Soul energy MAX” is the name of Obelisk’s other offensive effect, where the player tributes two other monsters in order to make Obelisk’s attack infinite until the end phase. That or they thought that “Soul energy MAX” sounded way too cool to miss out on but thought that his infinite attack effect was too overpowered to be included in the game so they gave the card the other offensive effect of Obelisk instead.
So if we were to see new god card support, how about this: A continuous spell that searches for any Lv.10 Divine-Beast monster on activation. It then gains 1 Divine counter for each card on the field (Max. 3). You can tribute this spell and treat it as a number of tributes up to the number of counters it had. Then during either player’s turn (except during the damage step) (Quick Effect): You can banish this spell from your GY to gain 1 Normal summon. How about: a continuous Trap that lets you send a Lv.10 Divine-Beast monster from your hand or deck to your GY to negate the effects of 1 of your opponent’s monsters effects that turn. Whenever you summon a Divine-Beast monster, you can send a number of cards your opponent controls to the GY equal to the number of cards tributed for that summon. When sent to the GY, you can add one “Obelisk, The Tormentor”, “Slifer, The Sky Dragon”, “Winged Dragon of Ra”, or any card that lists the previous names from your deck to your hand. Or a small series of monsters loosely based off of Yami-Yugi (’cause Kaibaman is a thing for Blue-Eyes support, make a Pharoman or whatever for god cards). There’d maybe be 3 of them, and each, when tributed for a tribute Lv.10 Divine-Beast Monster summon or effect, that monster gains either targeting immunity, effect destruction immunity, and/or battle protection (one per different monster) ? Then maybe some cycling when in the GY or banish pile. ’cause for anything to be decent now it has to be overpowered as fuck or so braindead simple that you can just cram in floodgates.
Honestly, the biggest success I had with using the God Cards (or rather, just Slifer) is by just slotting it and two support cards into my Super Quant deck. Slifer is just discard fodder for the deck because it’s easier to summon it from the graveyard rather than by tribute summon, and using cards like Monster Reborn, The Revived Sky God, and Spell Card: “Monster Reborn” make it a background strategy that not many people facing Super Quant are going to focus on since they are likely more focused on the tower on the field. So I guess in that way, I’m using Slifer in the way the anime and manga wanted people to use them; just a one-off card you put into your deck, not as an actual full on archetype.
“I put a win more card in my deck, but now I’m winning less?” Honestly, outside of their built-in protection, I don’t really think that they were really that significantly nerfed from their anime counterparts. Outside of some fringe irrelevant effects (like “you can use De-Fusion on Ra to gain LP”), Obelisk’s only missing effect is the option for infinite attack (which would be something like its tribute effect having an “or” effect that makes it so that if it deals battle damage then you win the duel), Osiris’ only missing effect is that the anime version also hit DEF position, and Ra’s only missing effect is gaining ATK equal to its tribute materials. So Obelisk could be used for a VERY slow and telegraphed OTK, Ra would be a bigger beatstick, and Osiris would be… Well, yeah, Osiris would simply be nuts.
Maybe if they released just a field spell card that could be searched out easily and had an effect like “Divine Beasts you control cannot be targeted by card effects except by other Divine-Beast type monsters. Also, twice per turn this card cannot be destroyed or removed from the field.” That could add tons of protection. In addition to this card, they could also give all 3 an errata stating “Once per turn: (“MONSTER”) cannot be destroyed by battle except by a Divine-Beast type monster.” It would break them a bit more, and they’d still be hard to bring out, but at least then maybe there would be some justification to use them.
If one of the longest running weaknesses of these three tribute monsters is firstly having the required tributes out at once, I have an idea to aid that while providing some good support for normal monsters in general: Normal Summon Cavalry Quick play spell Banish one monster card from your hand or side of the field; you may conduct three additional normal/tribute summons of monsters with the same type and attribute as the monster card banished until the end phase of your next turn. If this set card is activated, you may add one level 10 or higher monster from your deck or GY to your hand, and if you tribute summon it before the end phase of your next turn all cards on your opponents side of the field are flipped facedown. OK, after some feedback from comments below, I’ve decided to throw in some restraints to make sure this isn’t TOO abusable: Banish one monster from your hand or side of the field; you may conduct three additional normal/tribute summons of monsters with the same type and attribute of the monster banished until the end phase of your next turn. Until the end phase of the next turn after this cards activation, Monsters you normal/tribute summon cannot be used as material for extra deck monster summons, and are banished when they leave the field. If this set card is activated, you may add one level 10 or higher monster from your deck or GY to your hand, and if you tribute summon it before the end phase of your next turn your opponent flips all of their cards on the field facedown.
in my opinion the Egyptian god cards should be redone as ritual monsters who’s names are always treated as the originals to fix the issue with search & summon. Then maybe pay life points to negate effects, bounce cards without targeting, and draw/recover cards from the gy. I guess another good effect would be to search their support cards upon summon & but you can’t use it until your next turn.
I still don’t understand why you HAVE to pay all your LPs for Ra’s effect. It is clearly NOT worded that way at all and sounds like an errata. But a really shitty one. The word CAN suggests it’s an option, not required. I don’t know how Konami made such an awful and shitty ruling because that is clearly not the original intention of the card due to it’s other effects. There are a lot of bad cards but there is no way they would Ra that bad. To where you have to spend all your LPs and you can only use his other effects if you fucking heal. IT’S SO STUPID!
I know I’m 6 months late in commenting this, but I feel the issue with not enough space on the card to fit all the text of the God Card’s effects could be somewhat mitigated by adding a ruling in that all monsters who’s original attribute is Divine, have the effects of needing 3 tributes to be normal summoned, normal summon cannot be negated etc…. Basically all the effects they share in common, and any deviation from this such as the alternate forms of Ra could just state this deviation in their card text. Now I would like to move on to my own personal rework of the cards, which I’m sure has been done countless times before, yet I shall do it nonetheless! Shared effects (would be on ruling to save card text) All monsters who’s original attribute is Divine have these effects: -Needs 3 tributes to be normal summoned, cannot be normal set, cannot be flipped face down. -This card’s summon, and effects that apply to itself, cannot be negated. This card’s effect activations can only be negated once per turn, and ignore any effect that would prevent this card from activating its effect(s). -You cannot control 2 or more monsters who’s original attribute is Divine, and share the same original name. -While this card is face-up on the field, all other card effects only affect this card for 1 turn, unless the effect is from a card that specifically lists this card’s name in its text. -At the beginning of the next turn after this card was special summoned, if this card is not treated as tribute summoned, return it to where it was special summoned from.
Here’s an idea: Continuous Spell When this card is activated: Add 1 DIVINE monster from your deck to your hand. If you Tribute Summon a DIVINE Monster, you can also Tribute this card as though it were a monster. Cannot be targeted by opponent’s card effects. You can only activate one CARDNAME per turn.
Overall general rule when it comes to yugioh…almost every single archetype/theme that is from the anime will always be decent/subpar because when Konami makes new support that’s good or better than what they have people will always rush and buy it…stares at DM, Red Eyes, BEWD support. Now I won’t deny people from playing it if they enjoy it but they should at least be warned on what they’re getting themselves into.
26:35 so basically odd eyes’ specific spell card “spiral flame strike” to either search for an odd eyes card or have another effect if the odd eyes is already on the field. In all honesty this idea plus some protection is all the god cards need. Maybe making it so ra’s disciple gives an extra tribute summon for the turn or just more monsters that can be treated as 3 summons and god cards could actually work. still, it would be slow but not nearly as slow as it currently is.
Can you do one of these articles on why the red eyes archetype failed. I am a red eyes player and I know the archetype is wonky because the deck doesn’t know what to do with itself with constant effects that don’t really work well. Red eyes is fun but I could never make a deck that just sticks to one way to play it
People have really exaggerated the effects of the God cards. Probably because of the anime, although the anime only gave Ra one extra effect in order to extend the duel between Yugi and Marik. They have no where near as many as people think. Obelisk and Slifer both only really have two unique effects outside of the shared effects between all three. One for Obelisk since Konami will never print a legal card that can gain infinite ATK. Using problem solving text should be able to get each cards’ effects to fit. Except for Ra. Getting all four of Ra’s unique effects to fit would take a miracle.
What Slifer, Obelisk, and Ra should both have, base-line: – Immunity to card effects that target. – Immunity to Banishment – Immunity to Control Switching – Immunity to Effect Negation – Requires 3 Tributes and cannot be negated or responded to. What Ra specifically should have: – Immunity to Destruction by card effect. – Immunity to Tributing. – Able to be Special Summoned (albeit without summon immunity) – Has the ‘Sum ATK/DEF’ effect as its default stat-gain effect. Ra should’ve been top dog, and its immunities should reflect that by having ones Obelisk and Slifer do not have. I 100% believe they should be broken (and thus banned from tournament formats, logically), and anything less should’ve gotten Konami immense backlash until they corrected it. And none of what I put above would require too much card text. Ra’s would simply read as: “(This card’s original name is always treated as ‘The Winged Dragon of Ra’) Must be Normal Summoned by Tributing 3 monsters you control (cards and effects cannot be activated in response). This face-up card is unaffected by your opponent’s activated card effects. If Special Summoned from the GY, return it in the End Phase. When Normal Summoned, this cards ATK/DEF become the sum ATK/DEF of its tributes. Once Per Turn (Quick Effect), you can pay 1000 LP, negate 1 card your opponent controls, and if you do, send it to the GY.”
I would not call the God Cards a “failed Card Mechanic”. I feel like they are not supposed to be a real meta Deck. They just get New support here and there because they are really iconic. And it’s really cool how they tried to mimic the Anime effects with the newer support. They are basicially a “playground” Yugioh Deck for cool Anime-like Duels.
Haven’t seen the full article yet, so will edit if this is addressed, but for now: The thing to remember is that Kazuki Takahashi wasn’t necessarily trying to create a coherent and balanced card game that could be replicated in real life. He started more carefully considering and factoring in those details when Konami got their hands on the card game. But the card game (which, may I remind you, was originally meant to be a one-off game during the earliest days of the manga) is just a vehicle to tell his story, and a card game that’s expected to have rules and balance doesn’t always translate into a good vehicle to tell a good story with all sorts grand and important lore. He was thinking about making the God cards as powerful as possible because that played an important role in the story, which gave Konami a massive headache when they needed to work all of that power into a card game with some level of balance to it. …I wish I didn’t say “balance” so much.
Top 10 Noob Traps, card that appear to be good but are actually terrible. Every game has quite a few of these. Also other things I would love to see top 10 genericly useful cards in any deck by rarity, normal, rare, secret rare, ultra rare. Love your articles they have given me so many deck ideas and and helped me improve my existing decks in masterduel!
I really hate how they screwed up Ra so badly. It was my favorite god card in the anime and but the actual card is just awful. And all the support they added for it just feels like a bandage trying to fix it. It’s weird how they gave it a summoning restriction when in the anime it was one of the few god cards that was almost always special summoned instead of being normal summoned.
I think the issue is that there is a division between the engine cards for getting out the Gods and then the crazy God support cards which are useful when you already have the Gods onboard. A hand full of Joker Knights or Slime cards is fine as a tier 2 deck, to last a few turns but opening a whole load of Blaze Cannons or Fist of Fates really don’t do anything.
You know, back when I lived in Cuba I had a duel where I won with the creator of light! I was playing with a friend and we both had the god cards, I summoned (during the previous turn) Slifer, controlled Ra with change of hearts and used monster reborn to bring out obelisk; I then summoned The Creator Of Light and won the duel! Keep in mind this was during 2019 in Cuba, we didn’t have access to a lot of cards, so we were still having pretty long and slow duels. Definitely best ending to a duel I had seen up to that point.
Give obelisk his anime effect and that shit would be hilarious to watch. During the battle phase (quick effect) Sacrifice two monsters and give him infinite attack and attack one of your opponents monsters, or (quick effect) sacrifice two monster, destroy all of your opponents monsters and deal 4000 points of damage. This effect isn’t once per turn and obelisk can still attack after using this effect.
I feel like the Vassals would be a good model for God Card support. Like “if you control no monsters you can special summon this card” on Normal or Special search a Divine Beast Monster from deck and “if this card is used for the Tribute Summon of a Divine Beast monster it counts as three tributes and grants them the following effects: this card cannot be targeted or destroyed by opponent’s card effects” and just to prevent any silly Extra Deck shenanigans with that special summoning thing, it locks you out of the Extra Deck. And honestly I think that would do it? And if someone is that worried about the Divine Creator effect, limit it like the other alternative win condition cards.
You know 3 tributes for a summon is pretty steep. You know how there are cards that require named cards to bring out, like how Mirage Knight needs you to play Dark Flare Knight, which itself needs a named monster in your main deck? I’d like to see some cards that have really good effects, have a main way to be brought which requires a specific named card, and have an alternate that needs 3 cards on the field. So for example, Dark Flare Knight having an alternate summoning condition of 3 tributes for a normal summon. Or, perhaps have its alternate summoning condition be destroying 3 Spellcaster monsters (Dark Magician decks have more which share the type of Dark magician than share types with mirage Knight). you control. I don’t think this would actually make Mirage Knight any good, but I like the concept of a main way using a named card and 3 tributes (or destroying 3 monsters) and then having a really good effect. It’s not like this would break the game by being too easy to use the effect.
I just want to say that the Winged Dragon of Ra and Pheonix mode should have had their effects swapped because Pheonix mode brings itself from the graveyard which is a revival and in its fiery form it should be more powerful than the original which should have kept the 4k atk/def and the effect of pay 1000 pop a card. Sphere mode remains as is because of the draw back that its 0 regardless and cannot attack and cannot be destroyed plus brings out Ra ignoring its summoning condition which is frikken good. The reason why people mostly used either Obelisk and/or Slifer is due to their effects before the support came out(in tournaments), in non-tournament plays people use the anime variation where the cards have the description on it and if you have seen the anime you know their effects therefore making Wing Dragon of Ra the most OP and used monster in almost every deck… well for casual playing duelists lol.
I wished they made them busted even if it meant that they stay on the banlist forever. I hate what they did to Ra especially, because the most iconic way of summoning it (Mariks Monster Reborn tactics) wasnt possible. It was an absolute monster in the anime. And it was executed in the official release. Why, out of all the gods, did they decide to make special summon illegal for the one god that was special summoned the most? What a sick joke
It almost seems like every time they try to introduce a new monster tag or special mechanic specifically, they think it’ll be too powerful and nerf it into the ground, EXCEPT for a summoning mechanic, which they do the opposite of for some reason: Synchros? Make super strong ones Gemini? Mediocre or bad effects, need two summons each XYZ? Ban some of the good Synchros and Fusions to make them look better, and Rank 4 Toolbox Union? Almost all of them only work on one monster, also, need two summons most of the time Pendulums? Give them special spell/trap zones and mass summoning on top of three good archetypes right off the bat and almost everything generic or to some degree interchangable Divine Attribute? Three tributes, 1-2 of the weakest effects from the anime
lol man Obelisk the Tormentor has a special place in my heart. Once upon a time at my friend’s house in like 2015, we were playing a tag team match in a similar vain to when Yugi and Kaiba fought Loomis and Umbra in the anime, except way worse lol we shared a field and had 16,000 life points. Just one of those one-off wacky game modes you do, but then we eventually found out that this was an actual game mode on YGO Pro haha Anyways, my partner and I were both running Majespecter Metalfoes and our opponents were running either Fluffals or Superheavy Samurai (he played both decks quite a bit, don’t remember), and his partner had Masked Heroes. My Metalfoes deck was a LOT worse than my friend’s because he played tournaments and stuff and I had only just assembled mine a week or two prior, but I had an idea for a spicy tech – Obelisk the Tormentor. I kept it a secret until I could pendulum out some stuff thanks to my partner setting our scales. As I was shuffling my deck though, my partner was perusal and he saw it and started laughing his ass off lmao He said he respects it. After thinning out my deck enough on my own and/or thanks to some Dark Bribes and Upstart when it wasn’t limited, I finally drew into the Big O a couple turns later. Pendulum summoned for turn, I forget exactly what I put down, but then I tributed all of them to normal summon my Obelisk the Tormentor. Many laughs were had, and I still keep the spicy Obelisk tech in my Metalfoes deck to this day. Hell, if I run any Pendulum based deck, I always keep the pocket Obelisk in the side deck.
Mannnn I played with show rules. My brother and I got overpriced fake Slifer and Ra cards and played them EXACTLY like they did in the show. Of course since they were fake, we could tell when we were gonna draw them since they didn’t have Konami logos and were colored like the god card. Good times lol. With God Cards and other show cards, it’s definitely an example of difficulty making these cards part of an ACTUAL game. It amazes me how a competitive deck in real life YuGiOh is so different from one in the show. But then again, the show was all about brute force and rule of cool, which is just fine 😊
Sometimes I REALLY wish Konami was willing to just completely retrain an archetype, rather than add support that doesn’t actually make the old card good. The cards problem is almost always that it’s out of date and can’t keep up. Especially with blue eyes, like, stop adding support to spam out a big vanilla monster that won’t survive till the end of the turn and is just a brick in your hand, just remake the archetype entirely, call it “Legendary Blue-Eyes” or something, and make them actually viable.
I honestly would’ve preferred if they had just made them obscenely overpowered (e.g. ‘unaffected by card effects, other than their own’; ‘upon summoning, banish all cards your opponent controls’ etc.) so that fulfilling their ridiculous summoning conditions would actually mean something. If they ended up being too strong for the time, just ban their support, or ban them altogether from competitive play.
If we gave their anime effects with regular words words, they would need the following: “unaffected to all non-DIVINE monsters” (Ra unaffected by monsters efffects, because it is 1 tier above the ther 2 in gods rank), “cannot be targeted by spells and trap effects”, “cannot be destroyed by cards effects” and “cannot return to the hand, neither tributed or controled changed by your opponent cards”. This way they would be only to defeated by battle, leave the field by not targeting non-effect monster banishing, and affected by any other non targeting spells and trap cards (keep in mind that in the DM anime, magic cylinder and spellbinding cycle didn’t target but affected Slifer, and Ra was banished by the Ragnarok spell card). While they still are strong cards, in the anime they started to show some form of power creep. By GX time there were already monsters and strategies that could reach 4000 ATK or above, and futher spin-offs would give boss monsters weaker protection but easier to summon.
holactie deck was actually viable at 1 point because of the release of the soul charge pack… it came with kuribandits and soul charge which made summoning the god card slightly easier as long as you already have ra in the hand and 1 soul charge and you managed to send 5 monsters into the grave and 2 of them must be the other 2 god cards…. so yea it was a deck similar to exodia deck but it plays cards that send to the graveyard…. it also doesn’t help that holactie is a super extremely expensive card….
Ban the support, errata the gods. You can’t fix what’s too busted. Then make them actively formidable, sorta tough to summon, boss monsters that can be tossed into decks that can manage three tributes or into a deck all about summing a specific God card. For cards with such over the top importance to the franchise, they should live in the way of a protagonists ace or the blue eyes white dragon.
I’d rather Holacite be banned, and the others be playable. Maybe we can get neo versions that have the anime effects, but also have (this card’s name is always treated as “X”) effects so they can replace the original prints. The anime effects are no longer broken compared to current meta, except the whole language changing part.
Why don’t they just have their old protection? “Unaffected by all card effects”, “Cannot be used to tribute or special summon”. So many boss monsters today have much better card protection than these so-called “gods”. They can remove the “cards/effects cannot be activated the turn this is summoned” and it would still be useful granted that they add the protection. So much for cards who are literally called “gods”.
i’m sorry but there is 6. Holactie the Creator of Light is Divine. Yes its OCG Only but it is legal to play there. Edit: NVM it was in end of the article 😀 gj mentioning it 🙂 most people don’t even know the cards existence. i was so hyped back in 2011 (god i’m old) when they showed this card and hugely dissapointed that they never brought it to TCG 😀
So this article is saying the biggest hang ups of a god card deck are You need to build your entire deck around them You need to be able to pump out the tributes and/or make use of their limited usefulness in being special summoned You need to be able to search them out to summon in the first place AND you need to be able to shrug off any opponents disruption at least one So let me try to come up with a card that can do all of this well enough: Chosen Of Truest Divinity Equip spell The monster this card is equipped to deals piercing battle damage, and cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects of monsters with the same type and attribute as it. The monster equipped with this card can be treated as two or three tributes for a tribute summon, but you cannot summon extra deck monsters while this card you control is out on the field. Once per turn (quick effect) you may banish three monsters from your extra deck with a matching level/rank facedown; add one monster from your deck or GY who’s level is equal to the level/rank of the monsters banished. Once per turn (quick effect) when you have a level 10 or higher monster in your hand, you may reveal it to your opponent; until the end phase of the turn you activate this effect, you can negate one card effect. When you tribute the monster this card is equipped to for a tribute summon, equip this card to the monster tribute summoned, and it gains original ATK/DEF equal to the combined ATK/DEF of the monster tributed. If you would tribute summon a Divine-Beast or “Wicked God” monster while using the monster equipped with this card as tribute, cards and effects cannot be activated, and your opponent flips all cards on their side of the field facedown.
What’s especially dumb about Ra not being to be special summoned is that in the anime it was easily the 1 god card that got special summoned the most amount of times. Marik had a bunch of cards to recycle monster reborn with and dump/pitch Ra and that was his strategy. It’s the reason millenium revelation which is training wheels for special summoning exists. They really should just remake the gods alltogether with as much of their anime effects and protection as possible. They’d have to scrap being able to “defuse” your own life points with Ra via De-Fusion obviously and a bunch of the other really specific and stupid effects obviously.
They could have the cards look identical to the anime but they come with plastic tablets detailing their powerful effects so or if you got the card from a random pack you can get the tablet at stores BUT you can only purchase the tablet if you show the god card to the cashier that way they could keep their effects and have a cool gimmick
Lore wise, the God cards are the most powerful cards in the anime. In real life on the other hand, fluctuates in power and support that unfortunately limits their potential in the long run which shouldn’t be. They need to have the absolute immunity in their text that they need so to make room for additional effects that really helps them in becoming the powerhouses they should be. The support cards for the god cards range from good to decent at best which is not enough to make them more versatile to be a good deck to play. The Winged Dragon Of Ra had the worst butchering out of the three as most of it’s abilities have been stripped down in becoming the weakest god card. It took a huge amount of support cards in helping Ra to becoming the powerhouse it is. Ironic, as most of the support cards are parts of Ra’s ability originally. despite the support, not many of them are the game changing cards the god cards really needs. There need a card(s) that really helps get through most of the hurdles that is preventing them in reaching their true potential. Mainly searching and summoning.
With The True Name card, you could use it with Card Advance ( which lets you look at the top 5 cards then place them in any order, then allows you to tribute summon, even if you normal summoned). When they came out with the structure God decks, they are more for the causal play with friends, rather than competitive play.
Not to take away from this article, but for a more optimistic spin on the god cards, I recommend Golden Nova’s recently released article all about them. I think it’s important to have multiple perspectives about a topic, so this gesture is meant in good faith to encourage people to not just accept one person’s point of view.
I wonder what’s stopping them from making re-trains of the god cards to make them easier to summon or with all the modern boosts to be viable? So long as they can still be referred to by the support cards but have a different name, that means Holactie won’t be a problem. Or would that just be awkward card text?
I still prefer the sacred beasts because the are actually more fun and i doubt that the Egyptian cards will ever get same support like the sacred beast ! How about changing the cards its self but still treated with the same name. Konami shouldn’t be afraid of the potential of the Egyptian cards because there is an option called ban hammer and its the best option for these type of cards.
This is interesting just to show how outdated some of the cards claimed to be the most powerful in the game are. I tested out Silfer yesterday and it was one of the worst monster in the game, 3 tribute and whatcha get? A beatstick that has no protection against anything, that can be beaten over by a stronger beat stick. “Gods” my bumhole
Even if they made a spell that put all 3 God cards from your deck to your hand its not like they’d see any play. Even with Holactie. It just requires way too much investment on your part for the chance to win the duel. It might see fringe tournament play but it would never see anything more than that.
I don’t play the real life card game, but I have played some of the article games. And after playing the reverse Yugi vs. Strings duel in Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, I just wanna say how fucking useless Jam Breeding Machine is. So in the manga and anime, it was used as a way to bring out tribute material for summoning Slifer, and even though it summoned Jam Tokens in attack mode, there was a way around this using both Nightmare’s Steel Cage and a combination of Jam Defender and Revival Jam. Also, whenever anything except a Jam Token was summoned (such as Slifer), Jam Breeding Machine would destroy itself. Now I’m no card game expert, but I thought this all seemed to work decently enough for what it was. Sadly, I’d discover that Strings/Marik’s strategy just isn’t doable in the actual card game (nor its article game adaptations). The single biggest roadblock? Jam Breeding Machine doesn’t allow non-Token summons…… at all. Whereas in the manga and anime, it’d destroy itself if any other kind of monster were summoned, the real version just locks out other summonings altogether. So not only does this make the original strategy of bringing out Slifer completely impossible, but you’ve got an utterly useless trap card taking up one of your Magic/Trap Zone slots that’s only letting you summon weak monsters in ATK position. IIRC, even the Revival Jam tactic fails because its reviving effect counts as a Special Summon (and even if it did, unlike in the manga and anime, its revival costs 1000 Life Points, so you can’t even stall for long).
In addition to Mound of the Bound Creator being an utter laughingstock compared to Fallen Paradise when it comes to its secondary effect (seriously WHO THOUGHT GIVING A CONTINUOUS POT OF GREED EFFECT WAS A GOOD IDEA?!?), it’s even worse than you’d think because it’s effects are RECIPORICAL. Meaning that if your opponent has/gets a lv10 monster then they’ll be incapable of being targeted or destroyed by card effects too. Even if Ultimate Divine Beast’s effect wasn’t tied to your opponent’s Battle Phase, it would still be terrible for several reasons. 1) You have to discard a card to activate the effect to bring out the card so you’re always losing a potential resource unless it happens to be one of the few cards with a GY effect. 2) The destruction effect doesn’t trigger until the End Phase, and only if both the Trap AND the God card remain on the field. but worst of all, 3) Because of its targets. Sphere Mode has 0 ATK and DEF so it’s useless (keep in mind that the Trap changes the attack target to it so it would bypass Spere Mode’s inability to be attacked), Ra and its Phoenix form can’t be summoned at all, and that just leaves Slifer and Obelisk. With the former’s stats being dependent upon the number of cards in your hand (one of which you had to discard just to get the damn thing on the field), and BOTH getting sent to the GY during the End Phase via their effects. Soul Crossing is also broken (and not in a good way) in Master Duel. Although the cad SAYS you can activate one effect per turn after the card’s activation until your next turn, you can only activate 1 effect TOTAL.
They nerfed the original gods too much to the point now theyve got 15 support cards to desperately try to do what the gods should have had the whole time Having a card which is spell speed 4 that allow your god cards effects to also be spell speed 4 sounds stupid like they’re hoping that’ll just fix it. Make everything spell speed 4 so it should make them stronger
As a God Card played, I have an cool combo for u guys Joker Straight, discard Soul Energy Max, summon all 3 knights. Soul Energy Grave effect, search and summon Obelisk. Not even that, but Soul Energy Max is an ( Quick effect in the grave ) so u can use it, in case you op targets one of your knights for removal. Pretty cool. Ultimate Divine beast the trap, is also a card that works with the Joker archetype. U can discard Joker Straight or Joker wild to summon on of your gods. And the Joker card come in the end phase back to your hand.
The saddest thing about Ra getting nerfed in comparison to it’s anime counterpart is in regards to the “ATK/DEF Gain Effect” they chose VS the one that was significantly more useful: In the anime, the “reduce your LP to 1 and give Ra the amount you lost as ATK & DEF” was the OPTIONAL effect. The effect that actually triggered upon summon was “This card’s Attack and Defense become the combined Attack and Defense of the monsters used to Tribute Summon this card at the time that they were Tributed”. So, basically an even more powerful Maju/Great Maju/Emperor Maju Garzett, since that archetype specifies the combined ORIGINAL Attack & Defense, whereas Anime!Ra doesn’t. This meant that monsters that have been buffed by Equip Spells, Field Spells, Trap & Monster Effects would pass on their buffed up ATK & DEF to Ra, making him even more of a wall
Not being untargetable is particularly baffling because Ra and Slifer have room for it. Note that Obelisk has 7 lines of text but the other two have 6 and the untargetable ability is less than 1 line long. I guess Konami thought they’d be broken with it? For that matter, would they have been broken if they had full effect immunity? Also, did anyone ever side in Ra against Sphere Mode? Surprise 4000 atk monster takes some of the sting off getting 3 of your monsters tributed.
The funny thing about their support is it is already so hard to draw the right cards and having a good start hand but how Konami tries to support them is really ridiculous because they give them with more cards their anime effects which results to much more inconsistency. If Konami wants to support them in they right they have to bring retrains of the Egyptian Gods with their Anime effects. Or another Idea: Yu-Gi-Oh! showed us Obelisk in his new Hierarchy 1 from “Obelisk the Tormentor”. They can also create a new form of Slifer. Their special effect is “You can send Slifer/Obelisk from your deck/hand to the GY: Special Summon this card.” Also fun fact: The strongest “God” card is Egyptian God Slime. He has Protection, always 3000 ATK/ 3000 DEF, so much easier to summon. And he works well with the Gods Field Spell which makes him even better.
i feel like they should just release “alternative” versions of the god cards similar to the way they did blue eyes Obelisk for example could get a very simple patch, instead of targeting protection, he gets protection more in line with something like crooked cook, where he simply can’t be affected by card effects period, and i’d like to see them all have tribute and or targetting protection too that way they’re not dead if you sneeze at them, but obelisk keeps the distinction of being harder to destroy for Ra, i think a nice buff for him is negating all decreases to your lifepoints while he’s on the field, or worded differently, having a quick effect that gives you that many lifepoints, meaning if they burn you for 1000 Ra will give you 1000 life points right beforehand there aren’t too many “pay (insert absurd amounts of life points here)” cards afaik, but we could just introduce more of them for this buff to have applications outside of making you virtually unkillable while he’s on the field Slifer..idk man, you need to spend a lot of cards to get him out, and he’s all about having cards in your hand, i always felt like he was just “Ra but different” maybe if he focused more on milling or drawing cards instead of becoming a mediocre beatstick? i like the idea of “Obelisk is the big man, Ra does stuff with life points, Slifer does stuff with cards”
I haven’t played in so long. There’s a card I used to play. It was a trap card that allowed you to roll a dice. Whatever number you roll on would be the star level for a monster of your choice in your hand. I’d use that to normal summon Slipher. Especially when I’d roll a 1-4. I forgot the name of the card. And heck, don’t know if it was a legal move or not. Still, it was awesome.
I see how they can make improve the Divine Beasts’ support cards while keeping Holactie in check. Simply give them amazing search/summon/tribute-facilitating effects and give all those cards this lingering effect: “For the rest of the Duel after you active this card, you cannot Special Summon any monster whose original name is ‘Holactie the Creator of Light.'” (A Sekka’s Light-style restriction.)
I think one of the way to buff them is to give them cannot be destroyed, tributed, return to hand/deck as a part of their effect. Those should be enough. You can still out them by banish or send to the GY or beat them by battle. Then make them a better something to search out. However Slifer should be kept an eyes on, it is a super good flood gate if it has any good protection on itself. Most of the link 2 are like under 2000 atk so the opponent can’t even go link 1 or 2 at all. And except for special summon, they can’t even normal summon to begin their play. Obelisk is kind of nice for me. I think if it has cannot be destroyed and only needs 1 tribute to destroy monster and cannot attack sould be good enough. So it would be like BLS but function in a different way.
Technically Obelisk first came out in the January 2010 issue of Shonen Jump in December of 2009 and Ra first came out in the January 2011 issue which was in December of 2010. Slifer was released as a promo for the Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha digital subscription in August of 2012. Originally when Slifer was the last one to be coming I thought it was going to be in the magazine like Obelisk and Ra but it was part of the Subscription and this is why at the time when it came out it was priced more than Obelisk and Ra since it wasn’t as easily obtainable as the two of them since it was only one per subscription purchase/renewal.
Wait, The True Name is actually playable in Adamancipaters. Not only can they just send the god cards to the bottom of the deck, guaranteeing it’s special summon so long as you don’t draw into them, but rock decks have access to a monster card that when sent to the grave, you can add a rock to your hand from gy, then place a card in your hand on top of the deck.
Ironic that Konami wants to sell “nostalgia”, but absolutely cripples any nostalgic archetype. Look, if you want to sell any nostalgia, you make the set/archetype more than usable during the year it is released. Afterward, you powercreep those decks to make them memorable, but not an excuse for people to skip newer decks.
What Slifer needs to be viable is a card that searches him out and can then be banished from the GY to give you 1 additional summon so you can summon Slifer and if you do, it becomes immune to all card effects besides his own. That way it gets protection, can be searched and doesn’t take the normal summon. That would make it a worthwhile boss monster and it would give it something a little bit like ancient chant for Ra which is currently the most playable god card due to ancient chant being decent with guardian slime and god slime. Slifer should be more focused on being hard to get rid of and being oppressive to Link monsters, since those can not avoid its effect. Optionally, if immunity to all card effects is a little bit too powerful, limit it to monster effects, though in that case I would add protection against your opponent tributing it away on top. But really, for 3 tributes, I would like it to be fully immune to effects.
Honestly they should just retrain/errata them to have Original effects at this point (Except Ra, cuz there’s no way to fit all those effects in one card), a big boss monster that immune to S/T but still a bit hard to bring out and have no negates shouldn’t be too broken. Osiris (Slifer) also should get revert to its original name, it’s a disgrace and disrespect to Egypt culture to replace their Gods name into just some dude.
You can tell someone who is a fan purely of the anime who complains about how weak and ineffective the God Cards are in the actual game. Meanwhile, as someone who is a fan of the Wicked Gods and how all I have is Divine Evolution and generic Fiend support, I just want to remind them just how good they have it.
It’s a shame they made the gods, well, not gods. They have to edit their effects and make them much stronger snd safer to have on the field. I mean back in their no effect days we were playing them like the anime. They were immune to everything and could only be beat by battle. If a monster could reach their attack that is. These versions are not even that good. They have no protection at all wtf? At least give them their protection effects back
How I would make the God cards would be like Slifer the Sky Dragon: (Unaffected by your opponent card effects, except for monster(s) who original name is “The Winged Dragon Of Ra”) Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card’s Normal Summon cannot be negated. When Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. Gains 1000 ATK/DEF for each card in your hand. If a monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent’s field in Attack Position: That monster(s) loses 2000 ATK, then if its ATK has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it. (Quick Effect) Once per turn, add 1 “Thunderforce Attack” from your Deck or GY to your hand. During the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the GY. Obelisk the Tormentor: (Unaffected by your opponent card effects, except for monster(s) who original name is “The Winged Dragon Of Ra”) Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card’s Normal Summon cannot be negated. When Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. You can Tribute 2 monsters; destroy all monsters your opponent controls. This card cannot declare an attack the turn this effect is activated. (Quick Effect) Once per turn, add 1 “Fist of Fate” from your Deck or GY to your hand. During the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the GY. The Winged Dragon of Ra: (Unaffected by your opponent card effects.) Cannot be Special Summoned. Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set).
Just re-print the god cards with better effects. Colossal – Obelisk the Tormentor, Relentless – Slifer the Sky Dragon, Wrathful – Winged Dragon of Ra. Some quick effects I slapped together.Just right for today’s meta game, or too slow? Colossal – Obelisk the Tormentor (4000/4000): This card is treated as “Obelisk the Tormentor” while in hand, deck, and GY. This card can be special summoned sending “Obelisk the Tormentor” from your hand or deck to the GY. This card is unaffected by other cards’ effects. Once per turn, during your main phase banish 2 cards from the field, hand, or GY to destroy all of your opponents monsters, spell, and trap cards. This monster cannot attack the turn this effect is activated. When this card is sent to the GY, destroy all the monsters your opponent controls and special summon “Obelisk the Tormentor” from your hand or deck ignoring its summoning conditions and its effects are negated. Relentless – Slifer the Sky Dragon (?/?): This card is treated as “Slifer the Sky Dragon” while in hand, deck, and GY. This card can be special summoned sending “Slifer the Sky Dragon” from your hand or deck to the GY. When this card is special summoned, draw 2 cards. This card is unaffected by other cards’ effects. Gains 1000 ATK/DEF for each card in your hand. If a monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent’s field in Attack Position: That monster(s) loses 2000 ATK, then if its ATK has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it. When this card is sent to the GY draw 2 cards.
Strange…I’ve only ever seen it spelled as “Horakthy”, between the Yu-Gi-Oh manga and in World Championship 2008 for DS. And yeah, they were a hot mess. The Sacred Beasts worked better (especially considering that Uria needed three Continuous Traps, cuz how else you got three face up Traps…) and were easier overall (Raviel could be splashed into any Fiend deck) to use.
I’m going to speak for Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel, To fix GOD Cards is simple is Either (Make cards that can search for them easily) or (just make them “Unaffected by other card effects”) that simple. Speaking of Master Duel they really deserve the Spawn animation C’MON KONAMI ! (Most unique cards in the entire manga dosen’t have a special spawn animation ?)
