Hindu astrology, also known as Indian astrology or Jyotisha, is the traditional Hindu system of predicting events based on the stars and planets. It is one of the six auxiliary disciplines in Hinduism connected with the study of the Vedas. Each zodiac sign is associated with specific deities whose qualities and attributes resonate with the characteristics of individuals born under them. This spiritual connection adds depth to personal beliefs and practices, shaping how people seek guidance and blessings from divine forces.
Vedic astrology leans on the concept of karma, or the Hindu idea that actions have consequences, to allow those who follow this astrological system to deepen their understanding. People also use astrology to pick the best times for important events like weddings or naming ceremonies. Hindus believe in nine important celestial bodies called Navagrahas, each connected to a specific god and having its own qualities.
Skeptics say no, but believers say yes. Yogi and mystic Sadhguru looks at Vedic astrology and whether the stars and planets can influence our lives. Hindus are the most likely of India’s six major religious groups to believe in both fate and astrology, more common among those who are older.
Vedic Astrology is founded on the thought that all reality is Maya, or illusion, a figment of the mind’s imagination. Astrology remains an important facet of folk belief in the contemporary lives of many Hindus, and it is part of Vedanga, the ancient Vedic period knowledge.

Is astrology true in Hinduism?
Astrology is a significant aspect of Hindu culture, with newborns traditionally named based on their jyotiṣa charts (Kundali). Astrological concepts are used in organizing the calendar, holidays, and making major decisions, such as marriage, business, or home moves. Hindus believe that heavenly bodies, including planets, have an influence on human life, and these planetary influences are considered the “fruit of karma”. The Navagraha, planetary deities, are considered subordinate to Ishvara, the Hindu concept of a supreme being, and they can influence earthly life.
Astrology has been rejected by the scientific community as having no explanatory power for describing the universe. Scientific testing of astrology has been conducted, and no evidence has been found to support any of the premises or purported effects outlined in astrological traditions. Despite its status as a pseudoscience, astrology retains a position among the sciences in modern India.
India’s University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resource Development have decided to introduce “Jyotir Vigyan” or “Vedic astrology” as a discipline of study in Indian universities, despite the lack of evidence that astrology allows for accurate predictions. This decision was backed by a 2001 judgement of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and some Indian universities offer advanced degrees in astrology.
Who invented astrology?
The invention of the zodiac by the Babylonians 2500 years ago involved dividing the sky into twelve areas, each assigned a figure, name, and specific meaning. This led to the creation of the zodiac with its twelve signs, such as Aries, Gemini, Virgo, or Leo. The Babylonian astral scientists created a body of knowledge that allowed them to assign meanings and contexts based on their calculations of planets’ positions in the zodiac at specific times.
What does Hindu God say about astrology?
Astrology, originally known as jyotish or “the science of light”, is a method used to understand a person’s karma by analyzing the positions of planets and stars. It is considered the “eye of the Vedas” and is used to provide guidance to individuals who feel lost or confused on their life’s journey. Astrology is also known as the “science of fate” and is used to understand various aspects of life, including future success in endeavors like marriage, moving into a new home, or business ventures. In the past, astrology was even used to predict war outcomes or governmental decisions, leading rulers to hire astrologers for better guidance.
Do Vedas talk about astrology?
Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish, is an ancient Indian wisdom that has fascinated minds for centuries. Its roots can be traced back to the Vedas, the oldest Hindu scriptures, which offer insights into the cosmos, human nature, and their intricate connection. Early Vedic texts, such as Vedanga Jyotisha and Surya Siddhanta, laid the foundation for calculating astronomical phenomena and understanding planetary motions and their impact on Earth.
Do Muslims believe in astrology?
The Hadith, a collection of Islamic religious teachings, is a significant part of the Islamic faith. It outlines the instructions and practices of Muhammad, who criticized the legality and illegality of astrology. According to Abu Dawud, seeking knowledge from the stars is considered witchcraft, which is inherently forbidden in Islam. The Hadith also emphasizes that rain is a blessing bestowed only by Allah, and any belief that rain is a result of other beings is considered disbelief.
The Hadith also mentions the stars, stating that those who suggest rain originates from a star are considered disbelievers in Allah. This concept of astrology and the belief in celestial beings’ influence on anything other than what is enshrined in the Quran and Hadith constitutes shirk (blasphemy) and leads one to leave the fold of the religion.
Second-century Islamic scholar Imam Ali, the fourth caliph of Islam and cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad, views astrology as fundamentally forbidden in the Islamic religion. He warns followers not to learn the science of stars except for guidance on land or sea, as it leads to divining and an astrologer is a diviner. This aligns with the Quran, which points to stars and astrology as only a means of navigation.
However, prominent scholars like Ibn Arabi and Ikhwan argue that planets are not considered God but do suggest each prophet with a specific planet/celestial being. Prophet Idris, also known as Enoch, was gifted with great knowledge of the stars and used his gift to meditate upon God’s grandeur and teach others. He believed that the stars and moon contributed to mankind and founded the study of the stars.
Different sects of Islam offer varying perspectives on the concept of astrology.
Which religion believes in astrology?
Astrology and divination are integral to various cultures and traditions, including Hinduism, Chinese culture, Christianity, and Islam. These practices help people make big decisions and predict the future, reflecting their beliefs and values. Despite variations in methods, the idea of seeking guidance about the future remains consistent. Understanding these practices offers insight into diverse worldviews and their place in the world. The Bhagavad Gita’s wisdom, particularly from Shloka 41 of Chapter 2, is considered the key to liberation.
What religions forbid astrology?
Early Christians and early Jews were strongly opposed to astrology, with some even attributing it to demonic origin. The Church Fathers imposed strong sanctions against astrology to protect their flocks, with mathematician Aquila Ponticus excommunicated from the Church in Rome for astrological heresies in A. D. 120. St. Augustine believed that the determinism of astrology conflicted with Christian doctrines of man’s free will and responsibility, and that God was not the cause of evil. He also grounded his opposition philosophically, citing the failure of astrology to explain twins who behave differently despite being conceived at the same time.
The first astrological book published in Europe was the Liber Planetis et Mundi Climatibus, published between 1010 and 1027 AD. Ptolemy’s second century AD Tetrabiblos was translated into Latin by Plato of Tivoli in 1138. Dominican theologian Thomas Aquinas proposed that the stars ruled the imperfect’sublunary’ body while attempting to reconcile astrology with Christianity by stating that God ruled the soul.
The thirteenth century mathematician Campanus of Novara devised a system of astrological houses, while astronomer Guido Bonatti wrote the Liber Astronomicus, which King Henry VII of England owned at the end of the fifteenth century.
Did Krishna believe in astrology?
The Bhagavad Gita, a text originating from India, does not explicitly address astrology or numerology. This is because these practices were not prevalent at the time the text was written, and Lord Krishna’s teachings did not advocate for their use.
What does Krishna say about astrology?
The teachings of Lord Krishna as presented in the Bhagavad Gita are primarily concerned with spiritual teachings, the concept of duty, and the process of self-realization. However, it would be inaccurate to consider astrology to be a central theme within this context. Nevertheless, it would be beneficial to examine a variety of astrological perspectives.
Is there any truth behind astrology?
Astrology is a belief system that suggests a connection between astronomical phenomena and human events or personality descriptions. However, it has been criticized by the scientific community for lacking explanatory power and lack of scientific validity. Scientific testing has found no evidence to support the premises or effects outlined in astrological traditions. The most famous test, led by Shawn Carlson, concluded that natal astrology performed no better than chance.
Astrology has not demonstrated its effectiveness in controlled studies and has no scientific validity, making it regarded as pseudoscience. There is no proposed mechanism by which stars and planets affect people and events on Earth in the way astrologers claim, which contradicts well-understood aspects of biology and physics.

📹 How The Universe Was Created According To Hinduism?
The universe is a mystery that has always puzzled Mankind. How was it created and who is responsible For Creation?
Modern science embraces quantum mechanics which was discovered only in 20 th century but what fascinates me the most (although there are many things to explore)is the concept of Brahman and reincarnation…. After a person dies his smaller entities either gets conserved or destroyed(in some other form)but in this overall universe that thing is conserved…which means those particles are just reconstituting themselves and our body is composed of particles and energy from the whole universe(atleast some part)..so the concept of reincarnation is very true and karma also holds..we share most of these with our biological children or siblings.Moksha I guess can never be attained as those particles and energy will still be present in this universe…so if moksha is attained someday then this universe will not be present and it would also mean the alternate universe will also be gone …so moksha should basically mean nothingness
I grew up in a catholic family in catholic country (Italy) but I’m not a religious person. I respect who believe, I don’t like to call myself an atheist, because that definition doesn’t fit at all with my point of view: I cannot say “God doesn’t exist” but I also cannot say “God exists”. Almost everything can be explained scientifically today, but we still don’t know what happened before the “big bang” and probably we will never know (and to be honest, I’m not sure if I want to know it) Maybe I can believe in the existence of God, but I simply cannot believe at things like “Jesus touched Lazarus, who was crippled and then Lazarus started walking” or “Jesus started walking through the surface of water” or “Jesus multiplied breads and fishes” these kinda things are “good fairy tails” to me and are not logic. And that’s why I’m really surprised when I see this article, I didn’t knew that Hinduism was such a “logic religion” of course I don’t know Hinduism very well and like in any other religion there must be illogical things even in Hinduism. But this article talks about a lot of logic facts that has been proven by modern science and that’s really impressive for a 7000 years old religion.
I heard that value of yug changed after this krita yug, at that time each yug had same length of 5 solar years so the 4 yug cycle was 5 * 4 = 20 years, then in treta yug it was consider to be 12,000 cycle, then in Mahabharata era, it was again revised to 12,000 * 360 = 4,320,000 solar years. All these calculations are from Surya Siddhanta.
Snatam dharam ( Snatam religion) way of life which is seriously beautiful Plz Correct ur self in satyug – this religion was called Snatam dharam Hindu word came from Arabic people kyu ki unke according River sindhu se sindh bol diya then later in some text by mistake because Land of hind they start calling us hindu In old Arabic language hindu meaning is gulaam (slave)
Thank you so much for giving an overall gists of the vedic theories of the Cosmos… The concept of parallel universes and parallel times in space has been explained several times directly in the Vedas and the epics. Try presenting the other concepts of the Vedic age like the Acharya Kanada’s theory of atoms/molecules (sans. anu/paramanu), the 5 tatvas, Vedic Mathematics and works of Aryabhatta, ancient time measurements, Susruta/Charaka Samhita etc. It’s extremely important for our present generations to learn of the marvelous achievements of ancient India.
My grandfather told this to me, and now you remind me this again, perusal this you understand, all your arrogance, pride and sadness, desires and achievements is just so so insignificant, this truly humbles you and it can humble even the most powerful person on earth (even most powerful in whole universe may be ) Hindusm is truly a nextlevel operation
Superposition is talked about in Vedanta in terms of philosophy and in modern day physics same is applied for the material world. Interesting fact is Neil Bohr, Shrodinger and many quantum physicists are all sanskrit scholars and have some amount of inspiration from the knowledge hidden in sanskrit books. Even some of them inventors recognized the importance of Vedanta in their discovery.
All these scientific knowledge with great details make me kinda believe that such ideas must had been gifted and nourished by some ancient advance civilization (or today we may call them advance aliens). These things just doesn’t pop up in someone’s mind without having atleast some exposure and learning from some superior intellect. All these ideas and calculations during the ancient time is itself amazing though some of it (like the gods breathing in and out constitutes a day in cosmic scale) is a bit of a stretch for me. All in all, it’s amazing !
I think she is a great devotee of lord vishnu.she describes only according to vaishanism tradition.where vishnu is in centre.but mother universal goddess (jagadma) is creator of universe for her devotee nd Shiva is creator of universe for shaivism.but theory is same in all creation.we all know that there is no difference btw Shiva, adishakti nd vishnu.
“I have created all worlds at my will without being urged by any higher Being, and dwell within them. I permeate the earth and heaven, and all created entities with my greatness and dwell in them as eternal and infinite consciousness.” — Goddess Adi Parashakti in the Devi Sukta of the Rigveda, 10.125.8 Also, in the 4th chapter of the 1st book of Srimad Devi Bhagavata Purana, Goddess Adi Parashakti addresses the Trimurtis as follows: “I am Adi Parashakti. I am the owner of this universe. I am the Absolute Reality. I am dynamic in feminine form and static in masculine form. You have appeared to govern the universe through my energy. You are the masculine form of Absolute Reality, while I am the feminine form of that Reality. I am beyond form, beyond everything, and all the powers of God are contained within me. You must know that I am the Eternal limitless energy.”
Thank you for your articles and the múltiple explanations of the conception of the Universe of Multivers I am attracted to the Ancient Khemetian (Egyptian) civilization and that of the Sumerian, Akkadian and Chaldean civilizations In the Babylonian and Khemetian Astronomical Theology, creation was conceived in the Primordial Waters of Creation and Life In my Metaphysical experiences my age is 7 Eternity old, and ate the sweet fruit of a small tree given to me by a beautiful Hindú young woman with long black hairs down to her waist or feet, who deals with Metaphysical, Cosmic, Natural and Divine wisdom and understanding And she said to me, that I serve Parabrahman not Brahma in the Ancient Egyptian Cosmogony is, Nebertcher, the Creator who slept in the Primeval Ocean before the act of Creation The Holy One, the Enlighten One bless you and Creation
I cried perusal this article because it shows how astronomically large the universe is and how infinitesimally small my life of 38 years is compared to the universe and the multiverse. This life is very difficult for reasons I won’t get into here to protect my privacy but I hope that I won’t be suffering for 306 million years.
When I start thinking that Brahm dev has already written what happens in time, I begin to wonder why they even started this cycle. It’s not like they could so they did.. There must be a reason for it, maybe it’s a program and they are running it again and again to find a certain output and there are powers above them or there are competitors.
Hi, may i ask you? I am a history buff and i would like to know more about hinduism (mostly in hindu gods/godesses and mithology). But more specifically about the gods appearence, powers etc …. In your opinion, which books are the best about this topics? English is not my motherlanguage, so sorry if it’s not that good 😅
As someone who was raised Muslim, denounced my faith as a young man, and realised god in all creation at a later age—I must say that the Bhagavad Gita texts are very close to the truth of I. Hinduism captures the truth, but the people are lost in concepts. The truth is not a concept, hence Hinduism lost the greatest aspect it once taught.
Yeah our universe age according to science just 13.7 Billion years, But this is calculated from Big Bang onwards, that means our ancient Hindu scripts telling that there was something physical matter before happening of big bang So our universe age till now is 311 trillion years and where the science didn’t found it till now what actually it was.
I’m not arguing if shiv or Vishnu came first but from what I read in shiv puran and Vishnu Puran Is that, shiv ( adi anadi shiv ) created Vishnu wich was floating on the ocean . And then bharama came out from his navel and they both argued who created whom, then shiv came and answers their ques Shiv is also known as bhram or Parmabharma in Vishnu Puran Whom we call bhole nath, Mahesh, etc etc are just the pratirup of him I know that sanatan dharma basis is vedas but they are ony for this universe, not for multiverse From what I learn is that shiv with adi Shakti created Vishnu ji who then created bhrama and bhrama asked lord Shiv to be born as his son then shiv gave him vardan, then after some time lord bhrama gave birth to a yong boy who was crying and said u are bhrama not me, so bhrama gave him name ( rudra ) aka who which cry, lord bhrama creates life, destroy it, lord Vishnu creates bhrma and after his inhale all the life in multiverse get sammilit in him and shiv with adi shakti do the pralay and all that exist will gets destroy and the this cycle continues for the birth of multiverse and it’s demise I wonder if shiv uses pashupatasr to end it or if Mahesh use it to destroy a multiverse, well u know what I mean
I had to watch twice but I understood the calculations. It’s mind bending to imagine all this. We do not know how they came up with these numbers but the attempt at explaining the mystery of creation itself is brilliant. I just did not understand the role which Shiva plays. Why is he called the Destroyer? Are we saying that Shiva is the one who destroys the universe after 100 years once it is time for Vishnu to inhale? Or is He the one who is responsible for the destruction of the life forms after every Manvantar?
Those who r Muslims or Christians or any other religion when someone posting about ur religion we don’t even bother to reply or against to it ..y guys are so busybody .. all the way came here to against our believe..U guys Have No other better Job to do is it Shameless ppl..!!! IF u Guys Can’t accept the truth then Just don’t watch it just don’t give ur Islam or Christians preeching here we r here to udstd more bout our own Hinduism not to see ur nonsense comments the truth is always bitter to accept 😉 we r the leading religion among of every religion which comes after Hinduism..
When you realise god is formless, shapeless, Identitiless, boundless, colourless. There is no Vishnu, no allah, no jesus or anything The god can exist in many forms and identities, they are the creator of identity, god exists in every single particles of existence and even in nothingness, God in Hinduism is the identity created by the god themselves….but they allowed us to call and worship them at any form or identity Since god is everywhere and everything We can call the god as Vishnu, Allah, jesus, buddha or anything we want So pls, stop arguing over religion We are all following the same god in different identities 🙏🏻🕉️🛐⚛️☸️☮️☯️☪️✝️☦️✡️🔯🕎
As a muslim i respect humans: Creator talks in Qur’an about multiple time perceptions Al-Ma’arij – Verse 4 تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ˹through which˺ the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit will ascend to Him on a Day fifty thousand years in length. They challenge you ˹O Prophet˺ to hasten the torment. And Allah will never fail in His promise. But a day with your Lord is indeed like a thousand years by your counting.
I am not religious. But ive had some amazing experiences. Including out of body experiences. Hinduism is the only religion that lines up with the things I’ve seen. Theres a reason there is a statue of Lord Shiva in the courtyard at CERN. Hinduism is the only religion that can be backed up by science in a large way.
hinduism is much more advance than the modern science today is..our ancestors predicted this and mentioned all this without any modern technologly .they were so advance than today .everything mentioned in are Vedas are word to word true … proud to be Sanatani (before hindu word was originated we were called sanatani and our religion which is today knowns as hindu dharm was known as Sanatan dharma )🚩🚩🚩🚩
I didn’t grow up Hindu but I’m learning about different religions now and I’ve always been spiritual and meditated on my own and now I’m learning so much about Hinduism and it aligns so much with what I’ve always believed. So glad to be educating myself little by little it’s a beautiful religion and I’m excited to learn more ❤
One thing about Hinduism, literally no Hindu asks or expects you to convert to Hinduism. We don’t have this conversion virus running in our veins like a few other religions. And if you leave Hinduism, no one is gonna tell you that our gods will take their vengeance on you for leaving the religion and you’re gonna rot in hell etc.
As far as has been researched, the Universe as we know it is roughly 14 Billion years old. And The Earth began to form close to 5 Billion years ago. And our current Human species have been here close to 150,000 years. Maybe it’s time to write new scriptures based on those numbers. Let them be scriptures that speak to ALL of Humanity not just a select few. let us begin at last, A New Age of Reason. A New Dawn of Humanity.
I have watched many reaction articles on this article and the common thing is that everyone is being mislead or misinformed by the title “How the universe was created ” . Anyone who sees the title of this article has the impression that this article is about how the universe was created while this whole article talks about the time period only . There’s a long and confusing calculation of time but there’s no explanation of how it was actually calculated. There are other articles that actually talks about the basics of how the universe was actually created . So the title is not relevant. . . . leading many many people to confusion and doubts or sometimes make fun of Hinduism. So iff possible please change the title for everyone’s sake 🙏
How can a God be asleep…….. sleep hunger sex are the character of creations not for the creator, all these characters will degrade the power and authority of GOD……………..Allah! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? He ˹fully˺ knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them, but no one can grasp any of His knowledge—except what He wills ˹to reveal˺. His Seat1 encompasses the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not tire Him. For He is the Most High, the Greatest.2
This article is somewhat incorrect as according to Hinduism, Shakti is the fundamental of creation. It was Adi Parashakti who was before when nothing exists, she is the ultimate reality known as Param Bhrahma who given birth to Multiverse in the form of Lalita Tripura Sundari, created time and space in the form of Mahakali, generated trinity for every universe and resides in every universe as Adi Shakti Parvati.
I was perusal Jai Hanuman series then i felt like this is a lie and over exergoration, all series I’ve watched talking about Shiva, Rama so i started wondering, what’s is this Hinduism, what is it all about, who are these Lords? Did Indians refer to their kings as Lords? Then i decided to search for Indian creation story mythology. Let me tell you, I’m more confused now than ever 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Who was born first as a human in our planet(earth) in hinduism??? In which hinduism books written about the first human and who is he/she…??? Name please… And if the hinduism is an oldest religion then why doesn’t spread all over the world as christian and muslim…??? Why??? Hindu people worship me instead of worshiping to the monkeys, cow, snake, trees, stone and mountain Etc… Etc… they can’t give child birth as a human… instead of worshipping all those things worship ourself because human has giving child birth everyday as a human… So, oi hindu people if u can worship all those things then u can worship me also… i am your God…
What this has not mentioned is the role of Shiva. It is important to note that there is very little mention of Shiva in Vedas. Shivapurana a relatively modern book compared to Vedas – explains that Shiva is the only entity that exists outside Vishnu’s Maya (Vishnu’s dream). He is in fact responsible for time and with time everything ends. Which is why he is seen as the destroyer but without Shiva we will not experience life as it is. Kalabhairava is a name given to one of the fiercest forms of Shiva and the word “Kal” in Sanskrit translates time and time related things
The Buddha’s uncle was a Hindu prince. One day, he decided to go out spoiled by his wealthy father, met a sick, very sick old man, and saw a corpse (dead body). He was then upset, like, “How can this happen, so much suffering? How can suffering even exist, aisa kaise ho sakta hai?”. He then decided to meditate to understand all these kinds of formations, went to many yoga instructors, he was still a Hindu, so he followed 3 Yogas, some noble principles of karma, moksha, nirvana, and Samsara, thus Buddhism came into being, as a form of enlightenment because after The Hindu Enlightenment into all yogas, meditation and understanding of why everything from the earth, cosmos, rotation and such happen, it is natural. Buddhism came to be from Hinduism, Hinduism is the universe itself. there’s a movie similar to this concept, its called Asoka.
What a creation story lm so happy to have listened l was never ignorant to any ethnicity and their beginnings to this reality as we perceive it now through our Senses but sadly our Māori cultural story of beginning from the Void has been viciously trampled into oblivion by the Christians and Catholics interpretation of the one and only. And now through their successive Governments since annexation,of our country our Creator IO like our land has disappeared as Pink Floyd says “Desperation is the English Way” Which has turned my people into disrespectful Desperadoes
I think It’s best to listen to all the religions past and current. That should provide some answers to this perplexing puzzle. The Internet is a game changer. Imagine being able to access the thoughts and perspectives of our other brothers and sisters. We have more in common than what divides us. Fact.
After reading most of the comments and noticing people fighting over superiority of their religion.. I am thinking.. can we ( species of nearly non existing planet in the concept of multiverse) actually understand about the creator!!! Earth is just a dust particle in universe and we are microscopic entities.. still we all are filled with so much ego, jealousy, greed, and complexity.. and after reading some old texts i believe that hinduisim was not a religion.. it was a way of living.. and purely scientific..but originality is tampered with time.. though in the concept of multiverse this is also meaningless.. our life span is just a bubble in this universe.. so i think instead of thinking who is greater we should just enjoy our time here with love and peace..
