Do They Have A Mascot At Waffle House?

Waffle House, Inc. is a popular American restaurant chain with over 1,900 locations across 25 states, primarily in the Midwest and South, where it is a regional cultural icon. The chain’s menu primarily consists of Southern breakfast food, with a signature dish called Bert’s Chili. Waffle House is known for its cheap and hearty morning-time eats, but it also offers more than just bacon, eggs, and smothered hash browns.

The company remains privately held, with Joe Rogers Jr. as chairman. In 2005, the company claimed that it had grown from a single location to a global phenomenon. Waffle House waffle mix is made by C.H. Guenther and Son Inc. in San Antonio, and in 2015, the chain celebrated its billionth waffle.

The brand’s identity is centered around an illustrated waffle character named Joy, which serves as the focal point and vibrant mascot. The Kool-Aid Man on roller skates stands next to a Waffle House sign in the desert. The chain was founded by Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner in Avondale Estates, GA, when they decided to open a 24-hour, sit-down restaurant for their friends and neighbors.

The Waffle House’s mascot, Mabel, is a paper hat, bow tie, and no eyes, while the vintage mascot, Lee Corso, is a person wearing a giant head. The Waffle House Museum features various mascot illustrations, including a paper hat, bow tie, and no eyes, which have not caught on.

Did Waffle House sell Chick-fil-A?

In 1965, Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A, owned Dwarf House Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. He had invented a fried chicken sandwich a year earlier and began selling it at other restaurants, including Waffle House. In 1964, Cathy partnered with Waffle House to sell his Chick-fil-A sandwiches, which proved successful. However, the business for the chicken sandwich was too good that customers barely ordered eats off of Waffle House’s in-house menu. Consequently, the collaboration ended.

Today, fans of southern fast food companies like Chick-fil-A and Waffle House are considering a partnership between the two brands. They believe that the two brands’ products complement each other, and they are hacking both chains’ menus to create the ultimate fast food mash-up – chicken and waffles. Videos on TikTok show fast food lovers driving to Waffle House for a classic waffle and then to Chick-fil-A for crispy chicken strips.

The dedicated foodies then combine the two products before drizzling the meal in maple syrup. One video has garnered 125, 300 likes, with fast food lovers praising the concept and even stating, “If chickfila and wafflehouse did a merge I wouldn’t even be mad”.

Why do so many fights happen in Waffle House?

Booth, who worked the night shift at Waffle House for four years, believes the issue is due to a toxic combination of 24/7 opening hours and alcohol. She believes people get impulsive at night, especially when partying and drinking, and there’s no security at late-night places. Intoxicated individuals turn into toddlers, needing someone to watch and babysit them. She wonders if the issue is just that Waffle House is open when bars kick people out, bringing a wave of alcohol-fuelled people into a small, brightly-lit environment, which could be happening at other all-night diners.

  • One time my cousin and I came to Windsor Ontario from western 🇨🇦 for a wedding. Decided to go to Detroit across the bridge, at time didn’t have popeyes in Canada so wanted to try it. Found a location with maps and went to closest one. We didn’t kno the buildings were boarded up and street lights were out bc all we could see was Popeyes sign. After going in and ordering a big feast, a line began forming behind us and ppl were ordering one piece at a time with pocket change. After we started trippin got out the doors we realized where we were. It looked like the streets of Baghdad after the Gulf war. Needless to say we jumped in the rental and got the F out of there. Lucky we made it out in one piece with 20 pieces of. Chicken and biscuits. Still a funny story in person.

  • Y’all tell me if this is just me or not. I feel like the more dangerous the location, the tastier the food ends up being for some reason. I was at a Popeyes once with a piece of paper taped to the wall reading “not responsible for personal injury or loss of life” and no cap that was THE greatest fried chicken I’ve ever tasted in my entire life.

  • Yooo! This is so true! Last time I was at popeyes a fight broke with the staff cause a dude was trying to get with this woman, she wasn’t having it. So then he put her on blast about sleeping with the other 2dudes in the back and her boyfriend was sitting at one of the tables! So no I did not get my shrimp basket that day.

  • You know what is sad? This is 100% accurate – because it’s true! Ever heard of a food dessert? In low SES communities – there are less/no grocery stores and an overabundance of fast food. Why? They specifically target low SES often in minority Hispanic/black dominated areas with “cheap” food that ultimately leads to the health disparities we see today. Kids in those communities grow up thinking this is normal – they grow on eating this garbage!! And the saddest part is these companies realize that and exploit that. It’s sad. They have the means to do better for these communities but they don’t. I hope at least someone get’s to read this message – the more educated we are, the better we can fight these injustices. These companies are ruining our lives and communities…

  • There are two Popeyes near where I live, one is super ghetto, literally a dirty-ass strip club right behind it and it always smells like a dumpster, and the other one is in a high-end area right next to Costco. It’s very clean and looks new. I always went to the ghetto one because it was closer to my condo, and they would always give me so much extra food that the box would barely close, it literally felt like they were just grabbing fistfuls of food and shoving it in there. It also always seemed straight off the grill. I went to the high-end Popeyes once and they gave me less than what you’d expect and it was hella dry. Never went back there again, always go to the ghetto Popeyes.

  • The nearest popeyes where I live in Sacramento, CA is in the hood. One time I went there for some tenders and there was this big ass fight outside of it. Then another fight happened inside between some employees. I never got my chicken tenders. I swear I never see no popeyes in white neighborhoods😂. Only KFC’s. Fuck KFC

  • Bro, I once ordered form popeyes. Pulled up to the window, they said it’ll be five minutes. Once the jokes started kicking in they were laughing and having a good time and deadass forgot about me. I kept knocking on the window after 10 minutes. After they realized they forgot about me dude just laughed it off like “my bad man, here just have the combo for free”. Mixed feelings dawg, free combo, but my ass waited while I watched them forget i was there. They probably laughed more about what they did.

  • One time I went to a Popeyes on my lunch break and when I pulled up no one answered the speaker so I decided to go inside. I walked inside only to find a confused electrician saying he was supposed to do some work for them but no one was working. There was literally no one but me and the electrician in an open Popeyes

  • I worked at Popeyes over ten years ago and could not believe how mean the atmosphere was. I had a manager who got upset with me because I was friendly with the customer and asked how many sauces he wanted and I got picked on because I was just like the guy using the tongs and putting the chicken in the box carefully. My fellow coworkers could not stand I was handling the food with such care. I actually cook gourmet meals at home so it was just in me. I was so miserable when I was working there but this skit still had me crying laughing.

  • The inspiration for this was Mark going to a popeyes after he got back from a trip in Dallas. Mark had ordered a four piece chicken combo and when he got the order and opened the box, he only had three chicken pieces in it. When Mark went back up to the register to ask for his extra piece, the lady groaned at him and slapped the extra chicken piece into his box 😆😆😆

  • This isn’t a skit, its fact. Me and a friend pulled up to the drive thru, dude says, “Welcome to popeyes, please hold a second” and we’re like, alright cool… 10 minutes later, we yelling at the mic asking whats up, no answer.. pull up to the window, place is shut. Lights off, everyone gone. edit 2 years later, FML 18K of y’all laughed we didn’t rock up 5min before closing time. 1 hour before closing, in summer, the drive thru speaker was behind the popeyes, all we could see was next door mcdonalds and a main road. We sat there for 10min talking shit about nothing because we were stoned and wanted Popeyes instead of Churches or KFC.

  • At Popeyes, you give your whole order, then they tell you what they don’t have. Typical order after you’ve sat in that long ass line: I’d like a 5 piece chicken tenders combo. *Sorry, all we have is bone in chicken. Well, can I get a 3 piece wing combo *Spicy or mild? Spicy *We’re out of Spicy Ok, I’ll take the mild *What’s your side? Slaw *We’re out of slaw Alright, I’ll get fries *What to drink? Coke *You need any ketchup? No, but I want some Mardi Gras mustard *Ok Pay for order and proceed home. Once I get there, realize that instead of Coke, I got Dr. Pepper and there’s no sauce in the bag🙄🤬

  • I worked at a Popeyes as my first job for about a month and all these comments are so accurate lol. Went in for the interview and was hired on the spot. Best part was when she asked, “and this is your first job?” “And you chose to come to Popeyes???” She gave me a look and I was so confused. I had never even eaten from a Popeyes before so that’s definitely scared me at first 😂

  • I saw this and, having never been to Popeyes, thought “there’s no way it’s that bad.” Well, let me tell you: I saw a Popeyes a few weeks ago, and decided to get in line for the drive through, being a solid hour early to an appointment. The line was taking a while, so I tried to go inside but the inside was closed because “they were short staffed” as a crudely scribbled paper sign taped to the door informed me. So, I got back in line—no problem, I’ve still got 50 minutes to spare… Well, 40 minutes later, I’m just pulling up ordering intercom. This has been the slowest line I’ve ever been in. Finally at the ordering stage, I extend a polite, yet hardy, greeting over the intercom. Dead fucking silence. I wait 5 minutes and the try again. Absolutely no response. Again after another 5 minutes. At this point, I’m panicking. I’m going to be late, and I’ve got a dilemma: if the intercom doesn’t work, then I’m just holding up the line for no reason—but if the intercom works and I pull up to the window, then they’re probably going to be upset with me. I figure YOLO and pull up to the window; I’m already late to my appointment. When I finally pull up to the window, it’s at that point I knew that this story was an instant classic. There were NINE uniformed employees visible in the window, and five of them seemed to just be standing around doing nothing. I had to explain that I didn’t order at the intercom because I assumed it was out of order, and—by some miracle—they let me place an order at the window.

  • Real story: I worked at a popeyes for a few months, I washed the dishes and did some cooking, however I enjoyed the dishes because I could move at my own pace. (And get hella high because the back door was right next to me) regardless. It was the worst job I’ve ever had. The night I walked out mid shift they expected me to clean all of the closing dishes(raw chicken blood and grease and batter on literally everything) without hot water. We had a plumbing issue so I was also standing in almost a foot of water and it smelled like shit.

  • I went to a Popeyes two years ago for my birthday dinner, and the guy working the counter was the most AMAZING and overall happy person I’ve ever met. He was jumping up and down, he was so excited to be there. He was smiling like he had just won the lottery, he even gave us two free pies. We told the manager how awesome he was doing and he agreed. I will never meet that man again, but I wish him the best in life.

  • This is scarily accurate. Every time I leave Popeyes, I’m like, THEY TREATED ME LIKE CRAP AND I’M NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN!!!! Then I eat their unbelievably delicious food and I can’t stop thinking about going back there again. BTW, if your Popeyes has the warm chocolate beignets, for all that is holy, GET THEM!

  • I went to Popeyes once in my life and at first the women working there were a bit cold towards me. I was like, “sorry if I’m kinda clueless. I’m Canadian and we don’t have a Popeyes in my hometown.” Then all of a sudden, immediate change. The women were super friendly, gave me extra honey for my biscuits, and we had a pleasant chat. I was happy but a little confused lol. I still don’t know if they were nicer to me because I was a tourist, stupid, or both. Lol

  • I went to Popeyes when the new blackened chicken sandwich came out. I had to mentally prepare myself for potential conflict before I walked in. Soon as I went inside the manager was literally about to fight a customer and other employees were holding him back. As I was leaving with my food the cops were pulling in.

  • It’s two Popeyes locations near me, one on a military installation and the other outside of the installation. The one off the installation acts just like the people in the skit. One of the employees started arguing with the customer because they got their order wrong and started fighting while another employee took the tray of biscuits and swung it at the customer

  • Funny af omg. This is definitely for entertainment, I’ve never been to a Popeyes with this much staff. Last time I went, I was told I couldn’t order fish because the cook went home an hour before and only made chicken, and I got a coke when I ordered sprite because the girl on the soda machine filled a bunch of cups with whatever so she could also go home early. At 6pm. On a Thursday. And now I want Popeyes.

  • A few weeks ago I went to the Popeye’s in the American Dream mall in New Jersey. It was my first time going to Popeye’s and I knew that the service had a bad reputation, but my belief in the human decency disregarded it as cynicism. But when I got through the experience, I have to say y’all are right. They were assholes. (Edit): like deadass, when they gave me my food, I asked them for a container of barbecue sauce, and the guy was like “okay.” And then he went back to his business. So after a minute of just standing there, I was like “excuse me, where’s my barbecue sauce?” And he was all like “gimme a sec.” so I waited some more, and a little bit later he comes out with a container of barbecue sauce, and says “here.” So I say “thank you.” And he just leaves.

  • I walked in cashier straight up said “get the f out” alright to avoid being flamed any more about “where the story,” I’ll finish it basically I’m asian asked him what his problem was and he said “I ain’t tryna get infected” bro I was just tryna get some chicken dude wasnt even wearing a mask an I was b r u h Edit: alright, how I left it off made it sound like he refused service to me but I did actually get my chicken and got a discount for the employee’s actions (probably to avoid lawsuit) so yeah dont know what happened to the employee after that though
