Does Diet Rite Cease To Exist?

Diet Rite, the first diet soda to hit the market, was a significant milestone in the history of beverages. Its creation led to Coca-Cola introducing Tab in 1963 and Pepsi starting selling Diet Pepsi a year later. The diet soda segment, which includes diet and zero-calorie branded drinks, has ballooned since it first hit the mainstream in the 1960s. In 2020, the US retail diet soda market reached its peak.

Diet Rite Cola, first introduced in 1933, quickly became one of the nation’s best-selling sodas. In the 1990s, several fruit-flavored varieties of Diet Rite were introduced, and in 2000, the line was reformulated again, this time replacing aspartame with Splenda brand. Marketing experts believe that the word “diet” has fallen out of fashion with millennials and gen Z-ers. No-calorie drinks first became popular in the 1960s, and Diet-Rite initially targeted diabetics and was often placed in the over-the-counter medicine section of grocers.

Royal Crown was also the first company to unleash diet soda on the masses, with its first diet beverage, Diet Rite, released in 1958. Diet Rite is still available today, but there is no word on whether it still contains the same ingredients as it did back then. RC Cola has been around for over 100 years and is still going strong.

The parent company, Keurig/Dr Pepper, stopped producing Diet Rite a couple years back or at least cut back production. The last time Diet Rite was reformulated, this time to replace aspartame with Splenda brand. Diet Rite is now available in various flavors, including cola, white grape, tangerine, black cherry, cherry cola, and red raspberry.

A number of diet sodas have been discontinued throughout the years and are not coming back due to the popularity of sugar- and calorie-free beverages. The Dr Pepper Company in Plano, TX claims that Diet Rite has not been discontinued and should be available, but it is not.

DRIERITE desiccants, made from gypsum, are an all-purpose drying agent designed to solve various drying problems. They are used to maintain a dry atmosphere in storage spaces, vaults, and commercial packages, as well as protect hygroscopic materials from mildew, corrosion, rust, or other deterioration caused by high humidity. DRIERITE comes in various granular forms, ranging from powder to 4 mesh, weighing approximately 65 pounds per cubic foot. The powder is ideal for removing moisture from organic liquids and as an additive in polymer formulations.

The most popular granule sizes are 200 mesh, 20-40 mesh, 10-20 mesh, 8 mesh, 6 mesh, and 4 mesh granules. DRIERITE has an efficiency of 0. 005 mg./liter in gases dried at 25°-30°C, and air is dried to a dew point of -100°F. Organic liquids are dried to the low ppm range, with little change in efficiency at temperatures up to 100°C.

Why is there no Diet Coke in Europe?

The American Diet Coke and European Coke Light have the same ingredients, except for the addition of sodium benzoate. Although not banned in Europe, the European Commission limits its use in food and drink. The recipe for all Coke types is secret, but sweetness levels are altered based on local preferences. Coke is manufactured in different factories worldwide, and variations in water used may affect flavor. However, detecting water differences through artificial sweeteners and flavorings is considered genius and could lead to sommelier training.

In 1993, Royal Crown Cola was purchased by Triarc Companies, Inc, adding $25 million a year to its marketing budget. In 1995, Royal Crown Draft Cola was released as the first premium draft cola, made with pure cane sugar, Kola nuts, all-natural flavors, and pure filtered water. Offered in 12-ounce bottles, it was discontinued due to the inability of the RC bottling network to distribute it in single-drink channels. It was later available in New Zealand, parts of Australia, Thailand, and Tajikistan. The company also released Cherry RC, a cherry-flavored version to compete with Cherry Coke and Wild Cherry Pepsi.

Is Diet Coke really 0 calories?

Diet soda typically contains few to no calories and no significant nutrition. For instance, a 12-ounce can of Diet Coke contains no calories, sugar, fat, or protein and 40 mg of sodium. However, not all sodas using artificial sweeteners are low in calories or sugar-free. Some use sugar and sweetener together, like Coca-Cola Life, which contains stevia. Common ingredients in diet soda include carbonated water, artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, or herbal sweeteners like stevia.

Acids like citric, malic, and phosphoric acid are used to add tartness and are linked to tooth enamel erosion. Colors are carotenoids, anthocyanins, and caramels, while flavors include fruits, berries, herbs, and cola. Preservatives like potassium benzoate help diet sodas last longer on the supermarket shelf. Some manufacturers add vitamins and minerals to market their products as healthier no-calorie alternatives. Caffeine is also present in many diet sodas, with Diet Coke containing 46 mg and Diet Pepsi containing 35 mg.

Does RC Cola still exist?

Following its acquisition by Cadbury Schweppes plc in 2000, RC Cola is now owned by Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, which is headquartered in Plano, Texas. In 1934, the brand was named “Royal Crown Cola,” and it was subsequently abbreviated to “RC” by consumers as it became increasingly successful. Currently, RC Cola remains a widely consumed product.

Why quit Diet Coke?

Diet soda consumption can lead to weight gain and metabolic syndrome, which can result in diabetes and heart disease. A nine-year study found that older adults who drank diet soda continued to pack on belly fat, and a piggyback study found that daily soda consumption increased the chance of obesity by 65 over the next 10 years. Additionally, cola drinking post-menopausal women had lower bone mineral density in their hips. Hormone imbalances also contribute to weight gain, as drinking diet soda before a meal primed the pancreas to release insulin, a fat-storing hormone in the blood.

When the pancreas is overworked from insulin production, diabetes is developed. A study in Japan found that middle-aged men who had at least one daily diet soda were at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes over a 7-year period.
