Ways To Boost The Damage Done By The Warlock’S Magical Bolt?

The text discusses the optimization of a 9th level Vigilante’s Mystic Bolt, focusing on its class features and how to optimize it through choosing race, background, and ability. The guide explains that a warlock can use Mystic Bolts as melee or ranged attacks, with the ability to sling projectiles of magical energy at will.

The guide also discusses the importance of choosing one type of damage for a Mystic Bolt, such as a melee attack or a sneak attack. The guide also mentions the potential for a Mystic Bolt to be TWFed with itself, but it is more interesting to consider using it as a touch attack.

A Mystic Bolt deals 1d6 points of damage plus 1 for every 4 vigilante levels the warlock has. The warlock must choose one type of damage for her Mystic Bolt, such as sending a bolt of chaotic energy at the enemy, dealing X Fire damage, or a critical strike.

The guide also discusses the Curse of Pain and Power of Sacrifice, which can be cast in this way at higher levels. It is recommended to start with Blow of Corruption and Spell Memory while leveling up, as they provide a significant boost to damage.

In conclusion, the text provides a comprehensive guide on optimizing a 5th level Vigilante’s Mystic Bolt, emphasizing the importance of choosing the right race, background, and ability to maximize their power and effectiveness.

  • Another alternative pair of gloves that works with this build are the Gloves of Belligerent Skies which can be found towards the end of Act 1 (beginning of act 2?) in a chest in the Githyanki Crèche. These gloves inflict two stacks of reverberation whenever you deal lightning, thunder or radiant damage. Combined with the Spell Sparkler, which you can get early in act one, you can make a viable early version of this build before fleshing it out in late game with more levels and better gear options.

  • Quick List of the Best item set for this build and Where to find them: Boots of Stormy Clamour: Act II, Michonid Colony, Ameluum. Spineshudder Amulet: Act II, Mimic on Moonrise Towers. Obs: Do not let the mimic reveal itself. Coruscation Ring: Act II, near the Last Light Inn. Callous Glow Ring: Act II, Gauntlet of Shar. Loot it from a chest near Balthazar. Knife of the Undermountain King: Act II, Githyanki Hatcher. Buy it from the merchant. Potent Robe: Act II, Rescue the Tieflings. Birthright: Act III, Sorcerous Sundries Cloak of the Weave: Act III, Devil’s Fee. Spellmight Gloves: Act III, Pickpocket from the circus lady. Craterflesh Gloves: Act III, Echo of Abazigal. Rhapsody: Act III, Corpse of Cazador. The Dead Shot: Act III, Buy it in the Stormshore Armoury.

  • As draconic lineage I picked bronze dragon, Sorc 6 allows you to add CHA bonus to damage with your element, works with lighting charges/Spellsparkler, with Potent Robe and agonizing blast you can add your CHA bonus three times to each blast (but that changes whole build a bit) Sorlock is really strong but the most broken class I found so far is monk, you go with following stats: STR 8, DEX 16 and WIS 16, CON 15, then either 10CHA/8INT or other way around, doesn’t matter, you level up as monk till level 6, choosing way of open hand and Tavern Brawler as feat (and pick increased CON, that’s why you start with 15), you buy all strength potions you can find, Aunt Estel has some, dwarven woman in Underdark (mushroom ppl colony) is the other vendor for acts 1+2, they last till long rest, always have one on you, in act 3 just visit all vendors, they have some as well, at level 7 you multiclass to Rogue, at level 9 (monk6/rogue3) pick Thief for extra bonus action (extra flurry of blows), last 3 level are up to you, can continue as monk, can splash fighter 2(action surge) + cleric1 (sanctuary), up to you

  • Ehm, I don’t understand. @5:00 you have 6 sorc, 2 lock, and then 3 in fighter, and then last level in fighter for a feat, but then @5:05 when you tell us to get our final feat with lvl 4 fighter, it states, you have also 2 levels in rogue that you didn’t specify and somehow you have only 4 levels in sorc instead of 6. That’s quite confusing to say the least.

  • I’m curious what the reason for going fighter for 4 levels is over just going 4 more levels of sorcerer. Champion fighter gives you 4 more max hp over levelups, action surge, a fighting style (which doesn’t look too be terribly helpful), and 1 reduction to your critical threshold. Just going 4 more levels in draconic sorcerer gives you 4 more sorcery points, another metamagic, 3 level 4 and 2 level 5 spell slots (the equivalent of 22 more sorcery points or a way to upcast scorching ray even more), another cantrip learned and 3 more sorcerwr spells learned. I feel like the spell slots and sorcery points together more than make up what fighter offers, and I’m not too hung up on losing 4 hp. What am I missing?

  • I kinda wish you explained more why we take stuff. For example, “we take minor illusion, mage hand, and light”. I am not very good at this game and to me minor illusion and light dont seem all that useful. I get that you only need 1 combat cantrip (because of blast) but why not bone chill or ray of frost? I run into this multiple times in the guide, and it would be very helpful to understand why we do certain things so I can make my own builds more effectively in the future 🙂

  • i’d much rather using Markoheshkir instead of Rhapsody. Yeah, +3 to attack rolls is good, but it’s not present at the start of the fight. Markoheshkir grants you SO MUCH STUFF that is impossible to not use it on any magic class. It gives +1 to attack rolls and spell dc, gives you 10 free spells per long rest (Kereska’s Favour, 2 spells, short rest, use the two spells again, reactivate Kereska’s Favour, two spells, short rest, use the two spells again, reactivate Kereska’s Favour, and use another two spells). It gives you one cast of arcane battery so you can use yet another free spell of your choice, making it 11, AND the passives granted by Kereska’s Favour(damage incrase on the element of your choice, resistance to said element, and the extra passive like generating lightning stacks the same way the spellsparkler does, or getting another 2 turns of reverberation per bolt, inflicting poison to reduce the enemy chance of hitting you more, etc). I’d trade all of that for a +3 attack rolls/spell save dc that require stacking every fight any day.

  • Shadowheart and knife of the undermountain king : not proficient with martial weapons or shortswords. How were you able to use it? I bought mine from the Githyanki creche. My shadowheart build is similar to yours at level 6. Is it because of your later fighter class ? Edit: yup thats it. My bad. Thanks for the guide mate.

  • Quick one in case im missing something. Why not use bloodthirst as your off hand to lower crit again? Assuming my clunting is right with deadshot, undermountain knife, bloodthirst, spell sniper and champion you get crit to 15 which is 30% chance then stack on elixir of viciousness and your at 14 (35%)

  • Hello, I was wondering how Hex works, so if i’m using it with Eldritch Blast do I have to use the hex with the charisma debuff or the one with the force debuff ? Since the spell is a force base spell, but at the same time we scale on charisma so I don’t know. Sorry if it’s a stupid question, it’s my first time playing this kind of game so i’m a bit lost

  • Honest question. I’m a power gamer that likes to optimize, that’s why I’m here perusal these articles. But I find it hard to enjoy the game when my character build can solo all fights without even thinking. Are there maybe some restrictions or challenges I’m overlooking to make powerful builds more appealing as a playstyle?

  • Why Defense fighting style for level 1 fighter? You only get the +1 AC if you’re wearing armor and none of the suggested equipment checks that box. Don’t get me wrong, pretty much all of the fighting styles are useless for the build but if you’re ultimately wielding two weapons then at least the Two Weapon fighting style matches something. Defensive, if you’re wearing Potent Robe, is just outright wasted.

  • Wish there was a way to become an Unholy Assassin without offing Minsc and Jaheira. What better use of the Feign Death spell could there be? Basically I want to get the gear, without the guilty conscience. Cheating the system. Cool build, this close to what I’ve been theory crafting on my current playthrough, helps a lot with synergies. Thanks!

  • The passage on level 7-8 is totally cryptic to me. We have to replace a previous spells right ? which one ? I think people able to clearly understand such article are already veterans of the game and actually don’t need it. I had to respec 3 times (lvl8), not sure I’m totally good tho, pretty sure I’m not (got fireball, counterspell, haste, sacrificing the jump spell),, I still don’t have immobilize spell and you do (at lvl8) even if not said, and that other lvl3 spell you got it and I don’t)……. article clearly adressed to veterans

  • Worth pointing out you can also consider using the Dark justiciar helmet – it reduces your critt roll by 1 as long as you are obscured which is going to be a lot of cases especially if you make use of your devils sight. Not sure whether the -1 critt roll is better than 2 charisma but its certainly a viable option

  • @toyhouze thanks for this build, I unknowingly am doing all of this before i saw this guide. But i do have a question. In my lvl 4-5 upgrade for lvl3 spells fireball wasnt there and it was lvl 3 fear. Everything i did was the same. Can you help me understand, because i do want fireball but i dont think i can get it now? Also do you reccomend another spell if you cant get that one?

  • the crit stuff just isn’t worth it. even with all that, you get what maybe 25% chance to crit? not enough to make a build around. far better to just take those 4 fighter levels, and put them into sorc, specifically draconic ancestry sorc. more extra hp, more sorcery points for more turns of double eldritch blast before recharging, and higher level spell slots to convert to sorcery points means you can regain more points per turn in combat. or just upcast a fireball. the stunlock thing is cute, but far too unreliable.

  • I am very glad that someone recently came out with a build that ive been trying to create, but while i understand the true power it eventually gets to be, would anyone recommend that i either continue down this path of doing little damage initially, knowing that it will get much better, or do i just switch to a different build(such as a monk that is very promising) until i feel like this build will work at a higher level. Thank you for this amazing article and any answers to my questions will be very appreciated.

  • i’m new to the game and maybe a little dumb for asking this but does starting as a class or asking wither to change class change anything about builds? i’m trying to understand why you said to ask wither to change class at level six and going all the way back down to lvl 1 instead of just multi classing into sorcerer?

  • 1) You can’t have haste on two allies (or enemies) because it’s a concentration spell. If you dual cast it, it will immediately remove haste from the first ally when you apply it to the 2nd. 2) Getting rid of repulsion on your eldritch blast for devils sight gimps your mortal reminder which is supposedly the entire point of this build 3) Taking spell sniper as a fighter is a terrible idea because it will scale with con instead of cha.

  • As someone who never used withers even though he’s at my camp and never multi-classed after lvl 6 I was beyond confused 🤦🏾‍♂️, would be great to slow this down even more and actually go step by step and showing the actual process of doing the things ur explaining but that might be asking for a lot idk 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • Your guide is too hard to follow. Your changes are too fast, I keep rewinding the article… I just lost 5 mins following your guide until I realized you re-spec in the middle of it… you could say you would do it up front. I couldn’t find your recommended ability points distribution. Your timestamps have an error at Potent Robe.

  • Consider a similar crit fishing build, but with Ray of Frost instead. You can force vulnerability to cold damage by having a second party member dedicated to using the cantrip version of Create Water. With gear, you can still add spell casting mods to damage while also ensuring every cast is at advantage and making ice surfaces for crowd control. Counting only the damage from dice with no other gear bonuses, Ray of Frost critical hit is 6d8 damage, 96 max damage on vulnerable enemies. You can also just use one sorcery point for twinned spell instead of three for quickened spell. There is also a gear set that causes Encrusted with Frost status that can Freeze an enemy making them vulnerable to Bludgeoning and Force damage. I typically do four levels of fighter first. Champion and Spell Sniper levels three and four with Ray of Frost as the chosen cantrip. Fighter first also gives us access to heavy armor if we want to be over 20 AC early. Make sure you pump your INT.

  • I’m really dissapointed with our tier set. Buffing sb, which is the spell you want to waste the least amount of casts on, is very counter-intuitive. Especially with Soul Harvester, where you get succulent shards, so even less sb casts, makes it even more underwhelming. Not sure how the other classes tier sets fare but I can see us being near the bottom on tier set gains.

  • Hey man, I appreciate the articles. I’m a new player and let a few buddy’s talk me into playing. Even tho I didn’t want to jump into a 200y/o game that I had no clue about while others have played for the whole time. Been spamming your articles and learning as much as I can from the articles. They told me to play demon warlock, so thata what I did. Been perusal as many articles as I can to figure out the rotations for damage and exactly what I’m suppose to be doing. I have no clue where to farm gear from or where to go for gear. Is there a place to farm gear for warlocks?

  • Man thank you so much for these guides I just came back to the game…leveled a shaman then jumped over to the warlock…wasn’t really feeling it. Switched over to demo, watched this guide (fixed my jacked up talents) and I am absolutely loving it! Feel like I’m pumping and I can’t stop playing warlock now! Greatly appreciate all the work you put into these

  • damn dude dont forget to breathe. You suggest not using Grimoire but when you explain the rotation, you use Grimoire. so what do you do if you’re not using Grimoire? cast shadow bolt twice in a row? and what’s a drubushaberchprocther. I get that you know how to play warlock, but your guide is really hard to follow. its all going way too fast.

  • Hey Kalamazi and community, has there been any new on demo changes that the talent Implosion wont be used? I started in Legion with demo warlock and remember how cool it was to have 30-40 imps out just blasting the targets away with their little fire bolt. I really dont like the skill Implosion at all so switched to destro. I can’t be the only warlock out here missing the good old days when having an imp army.

  • I quit the game at the end of WotLK and was just checking in out of curiosity how my favorite class is doing these days…I recognize very little. But having a literal demon army instead of just one demon who passively smashes the target seems really cool. Do we no longer transform into a demon ourselfs?
