Pluto, the bb planet, represents the subconscious mind and the underbelly of emotions. It destroys weak foundations and rebuilds stronger ones. Pluto is the natural investigator and BS detector of the zodiac, making it difficult to get past its intensity. Pluto urges us to normalize fetishes and embrace this side of ourselves, as it wants us to live our truth.

Due to its slow movement through the zodiac, Pluto is sometimes called a generational planet, meaning most millennials have the same sign. What is the Pluto archetype in astrology?

Pluto, the archetype of the soul, represents the shadow and father of all aspects of the psyche, including sexual taboos, fertilization, decay, volcanic eruptions, criminal behavior, and the unconscious. It is not necessarily representative of physical death but can relate to all types of loss, including dismemberment, loss of memories, hope, and purpose. The shadow aspect of Pluto can be identified in the time of its discovery, 1930, between two wars, the Great Depression, World War Two, the splitting of the atom, the creation of the atom bomb in Los Alamos, the Nazi death camps, and the deaths at Hiroshima.

The Ohm/Pluto Microtone is an excellent tool for penetrating deep into the body to promote change, and its energy for destruction, transformation, and regeneration has significant clinical applications. It also provides the energy to liberate us from the restrictive hell of problems and obstacles of the past, allowing our spirits to emerge from the depths transformed into higher awareness and liberating hidden treasures within us.

What flower is associated with Pluto?

Pluto, a mythical figure in Greek mythology, was believed to wear a wreath of phasganion, a type of gladiolus, which was traditionally used for extracting stings and thorns, making cataplasm, and as an aphrodisiac and contraceptive. Cornutus connected Pluto’s wearing of phasganion to the etymology for Avernus, which he believed derives from the word for “air”. The color glaukos, which could describe the sky, was often associated with divine connotations.

Pluto’s realm was often described as dark, black, or gloomy, but he was sometimes seen as pale or having a pallor. He was crowned with a wreath made of ebony, suitable for his kingdom. His horses were usually black, but Ovid described them as “sky-colored” (caeruleus), which could be blue, greenish-blue, or dark blue.

Renaissance mythographer Natale Conti suggests that Pluto was given wreaths of narcissus, maidenhair fern (adianthus), and cypress. In the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, narcissus was used to crown Demeter and Persephone, as well as the Furies ( Eumenides). The flower was associated with narcotic drugginess, erotic fascination, and imminent death. Dreaming of crowning oneself with narcissus was considered a bad sign. In the myth of Narcissus, the flower is created when a beautiful, self-absorbed youth rejects sexuality and is condemned to perpetual self-love along the Styx.

Pluto symbolizes regeneration, transformation, and rebirth, helping individuals to look at things differently, evolve their views, and emerge with new outlooks in life.

Pluto’s qualities include death, kidnapping, waste, virus, coercion, destruction, and obsession. However, its strength allows individuals to connect with their inner self and subconscious, ensuring everyone is doing something beyond their abilities. As the farthest from the sun, Pluto takes 12 to 31 years to orbit around the 12 zodiac signs. According to western astrology, Pluto rules the Scorpio sun sign and the 8th House. It stands last among the transcendental planets and is the higher octave of Mars.

Many experts claim that Pluto’s energy is similar to that of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, known for being destructive and the father of rebirth. Pluto’s energy can bring about complete dissolution and transformation, making it a misnomer to regard it as weak.

  • Wow. Thank you for your honesty, transparency and humility. You are an inspiration to me. I lost my 22 year old son suddenly 2 1/2 years ago. It broke my heart, my life, into pieces. In seeking healing for this wound of mine, I have found a new spiritually enlightened version of myself. I now consider it my sons farewell gift to me.😭💖 I can’t say exactly how I have been able to embrace this horrific pain, except to say that I found my most healing empowerment in realizing that we agreed to this soul contract, long before we ever incarnated into this life. And that this wound was never meant to decimate me but to empower me. This wound is now simulateously the most painful and the most beautifully sacred thing in all my life. I was never into astrology or any new age spirituality. But he was! He would always ask me to look up my birth time..and I just blew him off, I was always too lazy to dig up my birth certificate to find out. How I regretted that, because now I know that he and I share the same Virgo moon.😭 My Pluto is in the 5th house as well. I dont yet understand ”transits, conjunct’..ect.I’m new to astrology and this website but I am absolutely loving this learning! Thank you so much for your articles! Sending you so much love!❤

  • I am a natal 12 th house Pluto. So many deaths literally and figuratively through my entire 48 year journey. I’d say every time it causes me to reroute my path and surrender deeper to Spirt. This last one was the heaviest. Breaking free of a toxic 17 year marriage with a narcissist. He lied, had me arrested- slandered my name- took everything. That was the death of all the labels I thought defined me, The things society tells us we must attach to to be deemed worthy. I’ve done so much work on myself and finally found how to surrender It lead me to astrology where I finally was able to understand why it is all happening. So hard but so worth it. True liberation. Great article🙏🏻🌞♥️

  • I just finished perusal Pluto thru the houses, mines in 12th, OMG, I couldn’t get into my Pluto here but wholly shit, the depression, EVERYTHING you said was spot on for me and it’s the only planet in Virgo there, I’m also Virgo ascendant. I just became a supporter and I’m so happy I did, I’m 63 and STILL trying to figure me out ! I want to say I’m so grateful I found you, you’re insight and knowledge of astrology is so deep and I could listen to you all day, which actually I’ve been doing today, thank you Meredith. 😐

  • My Pluto aspects: Pluto square the Sun Pluto square Mars Pluto opposite Lilith Pluto Trine Asc Pluto in Scorpio in the 8th house I’m constantly transforming, regenerating and witnessing the death/birth cycles in myself and others Everything you say resonates!!! I am also Taurus north node and I’m currently trying to surrender and release control on many fronts in my life and trying to be present in the moment You are wonderful Meredith! Thank you!

  • I have Pluto in the 12th house in Libra. What has shaped me into who I am today? When I look back at my life so far I see an inert desire to justice done. No matter what it takes injustice will not stand even if I have to be underhanded in the way I go about it. I grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness which I consider a dangerous cult. I was 16 almost 17 when I disassociated myself from the organization. When you were just fellowship, you were no longer allowed to associate with anyone who is a Jehovah’s Witness what this meant for me is I lost my relationship with all of my friends, my community, my mother, father, and brothers my aunt my uncle should I go on? I walked away from everything I knew because I knew deep within myself that what they were doing was wrong. That is just one example. I have continued to do this my entire life.

  • I admire your openess.. So sorry for yr loss Dear.. I hv Sun, Moon, aC and Mars 29′ in Caps, it has been a 14 yrs drama.. Lost my mom, gruesome divorce, dad got malpractice prostate surgery. Now pluto is swinging between my Mars and Aquarius. I do think of death.. Tired and broken.. Thanks for your post.. ❤ Love from Indonesia

  • Pluto dominant chart. Scorpio ASC 25 degrees conjunct pluto at 27 degrees and North node at 29 degrees all square Mercury at 29 degrees aquarius and Saturn at 0 degrees pisces. The only part of my shadow I now struggle with is power. I yoyo between fearing it and chasing it but I never quite feel right owning it. I tend to give it away or have no real concept of it. I constantly am surrounded by death and loss anytime I get distracted from myself and give my power to others. Lots of phoenix rising experiences. I have to be careful getting caught up in others to the point of loosing or sacrificing myself. It also seems like the second I figure myself out I have to start over because I’m suddenly a new me. My desire is to become a great musician but I’m petrified by the idea of how that success will destroy my life or if I have great influence how I might misuse it and that scares me. As a little kid my adopted brother was my only form of safety and real comfort. He was the only one who really listened to me and encouraged me to be my true self and chase my dreams and I never thought I’d Lose him at the beginning of one of the worst times in my life. I was 8 and he died in a very traumatic manner related to OD fitting for being a pisces. I wish I had a way of knowing his accurate birth time so I could study his chart. That year was chaos for me but if I think enough all my childhood was incredibly hard and I have a lot of PTSD from it. But his death messed me up for a long time.

  • Pluto in the 6th house in Sagittarius My Pluto Aspects: Pluto conjunct Sun Pluto sextile moon Pluto square Midheaven Pluto opposite Saturn (wide) Pluto semi-square mars I’m constantly transforming of how I treat my body and how I look at my daily routines. Very difficult, but I’m working on it. Thank you so much Meredith for your wisdom filled words😌

  • I truly appreciate all your deep insights around Pluto 💪🏼! I have Pluto in Scorpio, 9 degrees, in the 11th house; Pluto inconjunct Sun and Pluto sextile Mercury. I fear being controlled by groups or bosses, and I’ve faced that already with a 70-hr/week office job (which I got pushed out of) I’m in the middle of a full 180 in my career and moved back home to live with my mom and brother, we all have Sun-Pluto aspects and it’s really painful for me to live with them. I feel strong resentments and anger from my brother. My parents shy away from Pluto work in a lot of ways and I truly think my brother and I inherited their issues with self expression and empowerment. At the height of my pain I found your article which is a huge comfort and this-is-why kind of reassurance. So thanks so much, Meredith!

  • Its so interesting perusal this article from a different perspective. I watched it when you first released the article and i thought i had all the answers but im now starting to see pluto in its depth. A line you said that really stuck out to me “whatever you think youre controlling, thats an illusion anyway.” Completely eye-opening, every second of this article.

  • My father 1/9/1914 Oahu, Hawaii -4:00 PM 27 degrees 17 minutes in Gemini with Pluto at 29 degrees 45 minutes Retrograde in Gemini, conjunct with my North Node 29 degrees Gemini in my 8th house with my 14 degrees Uranus in Gemini. You did my natal chart 1/24/1946, 12:05 AM Manila Philippines. I wanted that power my father learned, separated from his parents when they got a divorce when he was 7 years old. Also he had 2 younger brothers and his mother was pregnant with his youngest sister. His maternal grandmother took him to the Philippines and raised him there thinking his mother and his siblings will follow. But his mother remarried and he said he will go to the beach and scream for his mother to take him back. No communication followed. Being a Capricorn and Pluto Ascendant he decided to face the music and decided to face the problems head on, focus on surviving, with his grandmother, a self trained midwife and a laundries. At age 9 he was working in a doctors office as a janitor. He quit school at 4th grade because ot was too far from their home, his breakfast is munching sugar cane juice and wild fruits he find along the way. Never complained just concentrate on finding jobs for survival. Just the 2 of them, and his grandmother when he was 27 years old suggested to have an arranged marriage with my mother. They both worked at the Sugar factory at the time. He built his own family and when his grandmother died and came into my mother’s dream to let him know about the people he needed to connect to find his family in Hawaii.

  • my mother and grandmother have both been very sick this year, they are doing much better now, but Pluto will be transiting my 4th house next year. This does make me nervous, but I know god and the universe has things laid out for me to not have to handle anything I cannot handle. I’m also having plans of moving, and I’ve been feeling very disconnected from home lately. Thank you for this article, a lot of fear can be put on Pluto transits, especially when it’s 10th, 5th, 9th, and 4th house. This article did not give me much anxiety, and thank you for sharing about your father I hope you and your family are well, Happy Holidays

  • I started my journey towards recovering from my drug addiction in a very sudden, painful way back in August 2017. Transiting Pluto was exactly conjucting my natal Neptune and within 2 degrees was cojucting also my natal Uranus. The Lunar Nodes at this time were squaring my natal Pluto. Part of me died that day… and also, I almost literally died. And came back transformed. It was a hard journey, but here I am, 5 years later, I am clean since that day. Thank you for sharing this information. Also your articles about Pluto in the natal houses made me feel really empowered. (Natal Pluto in Scorpio, 3rd house at 22 degrees, making a sextile to my Mercury and my Neptune – the way a lot of astrologers teach, made me feel only doom and gloom about it…)

  • I never knew this about myself until recently I got into astrology..and this explains so much oh my God ..the amount of darkness I have to transcend sometimes feels like a curse and its always been like that ..and ones you get on the other side you think ok now I can relax, but no there is never that moment ever!

  • So I can confirm from experience that everything you are saying is so so insanely accurate and everyone who hasn’t already been through it please please listen up so maybe it won’t be as awful for you!! Unfortunately for me I had my spiritual awakening and then after learning astrology myself in a hermit mode, is when found out which was a year after my 7 year long traumatic karmic relationship that put me out of work for mental health issues, that in our synastry birth charts his north node and his mars was right on top of my Pluto and my south node in the 11th house in Scorpio and I mean right on top only a 3 degree difference between the 4 aspects… not to mention his Pluto also only 3 degrees on top of my mars which is also Scorpio in my 12th house…. I was shell shocked to discover this… I mean this was no question an insanely huge karmic lesson and it was definitely set up to happen… I must say I sometimes I cant believe everything that I’ve been through really happened because it was just so so awful and the hardest thing I’d never wish on anyone and it still is very painful but I can also see the value of it as well… so much knowledge and growth and intuition and spirituality and self awareness and forgiveness etc… like you say in the article it’s so deep and complex there’s so many layers to everything explain in a short article or comment lol ❤️‍🩹

  • Another great one Meredith. Nothing like seeing the TRUTH of Pluto through the lens of Evolutionary Astrology. I’m experiencing a Pluto Transit right now: to my natal retrograde Chiron in Aquarius in the 6th house in opposition to my natal anaretic Uranus in Cancer (just inside the 12th house cusp) and in opposition to my out-of-sign Moon in Leo. It’s been a Wyld Ride for sure!

  • I am terrified of being abandoned. I hang on to relationships even when they work against me. I give everything I have to leave people better than I find them, and I ask for nothing in return. My journey then now is to awaken in me the truth that I am not responsible for others. I’m enough on my own. I can survive and thrive the end of relationships. And when I’m pursuing a relationship, I don’t have to accept crumbs. I can do the work of helping others through suffering, but I don’t have to attach myself to their suffering. It’s time to let go. Let people move on. And to move on myself and learn to be happy alone. To not subscribe to the beliefs that I am fundamentally unlovable. To not let others define my identity. So that’s the work I think my Pluto, in my 12th house, has in store for me.

  • I have Pluto in my 11th house, in the sign of Virgo. That probably explains why I have recurring themes/issues around relationships with friends and partners in this lifetime. Still learning how it is connected to other points in my chart. That’s why I’m here…to learn more about what Pluto’s placement in my chart means! Thank you for producing articles like this one. They truly shed light on so many concepts that we all need to understand in order to grow into the people we are destined to become!

  • I rck wit u luv, I am changing how I get money and deal with responsibility. Honestly, I am addicted to selling things including party items. I come from a good family and I am realizing how I blocked my actual family and created a toxic extended family that is leading me to a fork. I know my power, I have to make many major decisions. Pluto is helping me! I claim that! My God is all possibilities, I can anything good great or the worst. I choose greatness.. Pluto transiting my 1st house 26 degrees ♑. I am moving forward. Great article. Keep pushing!! Thank you!

  • OMG I have been listening to you the last week and I love your learning from you. I just booked an appointment with you. Thank you for your hard work and your raw honesty in this article especially. Your raw honesty almost brought me to tears. I lost my Father and my mom and I know how a part of you dies with them. Sending you so much love and blessing. Looking forward to my reading.

  • Love this Meridith thank you! So great to hear an astrologer honour the potent shadow and light of Pluto. As a pluto conjunct sun Venus mercury in Scorpio and square leo moon and Jupiter in the 8th trying to website the sheer power of this planet is a daily uphill climb. articles like this truly help and inspire 🤍

  • Greatest fear: Amounting to nothing. Being a failure. Pluto opposition moon in Taurus in 10th house (my chart ruler) and square my sun in Leo in 1st house. Packed with hard aspects on my chart. Grand cross Venus (2nd) opposing Jupiter (8th) square Uranus, Uranus (5th) opposition Lilith-Chiron conjunction (11th house). Mercury retrograde, Mars retrograde, Jupiter retrograde, Saturn retrograde, Uranus retrograde, Neptune retrograde. I’ve grown to embrace the hard aspects, Pluto and retrogrades and gradually learning how to direct the energy into creation. I feel restless, but I don’t think I could live any other way. I’ve had some recent fortuitous lessons where I’ve been convinced I was headed for failure and humiliation (big professional viva voce exams) but grit my teeth, did what I had to do – shocked that I passed.

  • My Pluto conjuncts Uranus and my moon in the 2nd house in Virgo (11, 13 and 14 degrees) and opposes that Saturn I mentioned yesterday in the 8th house in Pieces – 5 degrees from Chiron. Yes the full and new moon are seriously intense for me! They push the fukk out of me Mer. Also, it’s extra hard cuz I’m from the future and this world really frustrates me. (Sun in 11th house in Cancer – Leo rising.)

  • I checked my chart (from you) and That’s my Pluto related aspects:) Pluto Conjunct to Sun Puto in soft aspect to Moon Pluto Conjunct to Venus Pluto Conjunct to Saturn Pluto in soft aspect to Uranus Pluto in Scorpio in 3rd House Jupiter in Scorpio in 3rd House North Node in scorpio 3rd House I guess I need to watch all your Pluto series and please make a synastry articles 😍

Pluto in Libra in first house, conjunct my ascendant in Libra, Opposes Sun in Aries {7th), squares Jupiter in Cancer (10th), sextiles Leo moon (11th), sag in Neptune(3rd), also have Uranus in Scorpio(2nd)…..I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliantly explained article on Pluto! The best one I’ve come across so far! 👍My Pluto is 3H Libra at °29, speaking has always been a fear of mine especially publicly. I’ve learnt the power of words, been hurt by words but learnt how to destroy with words unfortunately. I’m strong willed, stubborn and I like justice. Aspects from natal Pluto 3H Libra °29 are; Square Sun 12H Leo °4 Sextile Leo Ascendant °27 Quintile Venus 12H Leo °15 Sextile Mercury 1H Virgo °1 Sextile Rx Jupiter 5H Capricorn °4 Sextile Rx Neptune 5H Sagittarius °29 Bi-Quintile North Node 10H Gemini °4 Bi-Quintile Chiron 10H Gemini °7 Inconjunct Lilith 8H Pisces °29 Currently experiencing a Pluto Square Pluto aspect all throughout this year until December.

  • Meredith i usually do NOT suggest anything bc this article is so good. But SINCE is SO good…and you do talk about PLUTO with so much propriety…. WOULD YOU PLEASE CONSIDER DOING A WHOLE SERIES on the 8TH HOUSE!? !? !? ! 😊😶🥺I would love that….all my aspects with pluto are EASY ones. But i am always attentive to what I do have on my 8th house. And yep 8th house is ruled by Pluto in modern astrology. 😄So i would love to see a considerate and smart astrologer doing a decent 8th house planets series!!! I think these people are sometimes even more Plutonian than people with heavy Pluto aspects. Anyways, thank you so much for all your information and work. Great article!:goodvibes:

  • I won’t go into the details but just in short I was extremely attached to my father and then my worst nightmare came true, but I can say it was def a major transformation, I always tell people, if I had to take his death back I wouldn’t, because I learned so much through it, I can’t even describe it to you. It was a spiritual awakening to put it mildly….

  • Pluto 29.40′ Virgo 5th Mars 23.30′ Scorpio 6th Jupiter 29.42′ Scorpio 6th Sextile Pluto Sun Capricorn 21.54′ 8th Trine Pluto Mercury 29.11 Sag 7th Square Pluto Neptune 2.20′ Sag 6th Sextile Pluto Pluto, Saturn & North Node in retrograde at time of birth… An easier question to answer would be what HASN’T been lost, left, destroyed, shattered, feared, taken never showed up OR just f**** died. This explains sooooo dam much about my ENTIRE life! Thank you so much for sharing all this beautiful knowledge! 🌷🙏🌷 Namaste Beautiful One

  • New subscriber here🤗 just wanna say I adore your spirit and how professionally you present your craft. It’s helping me so much! Understanding my Pluto placement has become quite a quandry to me. It sits in Scorpio at 0.37° along with Saturn at 13° and Mars at 25°. My Sun is in Taurus 5°. I’m basically considering myself a Scorpio at this point after perusal your playlists lol! Venus 21° and Mercury 29° both in Aries with Moon in Pisces. Thank god for my Uranus in Sag. Thank you and greatly looking forward to this series!! ❤__❤
