Elden Ring offers a variety of spells for players with different stats, making intelligence-based spells crucial for facing tough foes. Intelligence (INT) is a Main Attribute required to cast most Sorceries and equip the weapons required to cast these spells. Intelligence (33 points) is the primary attribute for a Sorcerer, enhances spell damage, and meets requirements for advanced sorceries.
Survival strategy involves maintaining balance while aiming for high damage. Intelligence builds are jacks of all trades and masters of death with access to a wide assortment of weapons, armor, and powerful spells. Key takeaways include getting early in the game and understanding the importance of spells in Elden Ring.
Intelligence fuels one of Elden Ring’s primary forms of magic: sorcery. It builds more than just spell casting and directly scales with the magic damage to many weapons throughout the game. The power of your spells is not directly related to Faith or Intelligence. The stat you actually need to boost is “Sorcery/Incantation Scaling” found on the game.
The best of the available spells that require players to invest in their Intelligence stat is the legendary spell known as Comet Azure. Most Sorcery scales off of Intelligence, meaning the higher your Intelligence, the harder your spell will hit. To craft an Intelligence build to carry you through to the late-game in Elden Ring, consider investing in the Moonveil’s weapon skill rather than casting.

📹 Just How OP Can You Make INTELLIGENCE in ELDEN RING?
I didn’t realize how level-dependent a mage build would be. I only really enjoy magic builds when it comes to Terraria and I feel …
If anyone mains strength and wants to try magic, I recommend make an entire run using only gravity spells/ gravity weapons. Gravity weapons scales with Strength and most gravity spells pulls your enemy towards you so you have a strong weapon that can reach 800 ATT with only 40 STR. It’s a fun build to pull your enemy then bonk them.
i think Shard Spiral from Sellen and the Rock Sling spells are both up there for my favorites. one is an absolute shredder that deals damage as it travels through massive bosses like the final boss, and the other is a janky physical damage range option that enemies mess up dodging making it worth the cast time (in my opinion) i love spellcasting in this game, you have so many options, and while it isnt the optimal way of play, i just enjoy it lol
in liurnia if you shoot down the baloons with the marionettes (near the tower where you find another memory stone) you get golden rune 6 for each of the baloons. Also behind the dragon dude in siofra river there is marikas soreseal (or whatever its called) which is basically radagons soreseal but it boosts your “magic man” stats like mind, int, arcane
FYI for the viewers, Google the trapped chest to get the meteorite staff right at the start of the game. Next after you get Int up Go find the staff of the lost and off hand it with the Carian Regal Scepter in the main hand. Cast Night spells for max damage. If you are really big brain, Make a 2nd character and grab a 2nd staff of the lost. Get a friend to jump online and trade it to them then they can trade it to your main character. The 30% buff stacks. You can get it to +18 or higher fast by killing all the falling star beast in the game, Which is not that hard. As for summons, the wolfs work for a time, But get the GREATSHIELD SOLDIER ASHES. They Tank for YEARS be sure the level them up.
Love the article. But my man was very wrong about the importance worms play in the world. They arent just food for other creatures. They also help with soil drainage, feed in dead plant debris making the soil more fertile and improve overall soil structure. Without worms, farming would be much more difficult and we would pretty quickly run low on the food we can grow. But otherwise, I’m enjoying the article lol.
The key is pumping faith to 33 to cast golden vow and Shabriri’s woe that buffs all your damage by 15% and 25% respectively. Ritual sword talisman also gives 10% damage boost, but it requires you to be always at full HP. And don’t forget about Jellyfish shield. That’s when intelligence becomes really OP. I finished my glass nuke build on NG+2 not so long ago (literally 10 vigor), after stacking all possible buffs could deal over 50k damage to Mohg with Comet Azur and instantly kill him (obviously). But gotta say that my personal favorite sorcery is the Rock Blaster, judging by FP consumption and damage output it probably even outshines Comet Azur. Adula’s Moonblade and DMGS are too mainstream. Yes, this is my very important nerdy opinion.
If you wanted a extremely good farm that is easy to do and get to for early to late game farm is doing Varre’s questline pretty much until you get his teleport basically run up the cliff going towards Mohg and rest at the site of grace by the cliffside, you can now either kill the crow off into the distance with a bow with long range or you can just kill the albernaurichs that are littered over the cliff doing this method you might want to consider getting arcing spells or ones that have high aoe or high damage, after that just head back to site of grace and repeat.
Int builds are the strongest of all Elden Ring builds once you get the Staff of Loss, especially if you double up on said staff in NG+. The Night comet with double Loss Staff has the highest DPS and is very easy to land due to enemies not dodging it. I kill Malenia first try every time due to chunking her hp down with Night Comet. In NG, main hand the Lusat’s staff while off handing the Loss Staff for similar DPS.
Magic is literally playing Elden ring on easy mode except for a few bosses for my first Playthru of Elden ring I did it with no YouTube articles and I decided to go for a bleed build. I ended up using the rivers of blood katana Max upgraded with the ronin armor set at first I used the very long katana that Ronan has killed him for it atone for my sins and so on and so forth on my second play through of Elden ring I did a mage build magic is so incredibly easy to use. It’s actually insane. Starting out is pretty difficult but once you get to the ball farm in Kaylee that it’s actually incredibly easy to be a mage, not to mention once you unlock the blood area and find that insane farm that gives you 40,000+ rooms per cycle. You just become an absolute legend the amount of damage that you can do in magic without even getting harmed is crazy.
I’m glad you never got the Death’s Poker since it would’ve turned this entire run into a complete joke. Even at low Intelligence, it’s still one of if not the best weapons in the game. P.S. If you ever try magic again I recommend the Full Moon Sorceries due to them lowering the enemies’ magic damage negation and the Shard Spiral Sorcery which absolutely destroys large bosses and enemies like the Elden Beast or any of the Dragons.
While i completely understand what you’re going for and that’s a cool idea for a article the quickest way to get op is to go to caelid grab the meteoric staff and rock sling spell because the staff doesn’t upgrade it just scales with int you don’t need to worry about spending runes or upgrade mats on it and it boosts gravity spells it will carry you all the way until end game when you have collected all the other spells and staffs and can change over to that gear
I️ wish you had said where to get the things, it would help. I’m doing a mage build but i’m new to the game. Knowing where the items and spells are would be helpful. I️ watched some other articles and was able to get meteorite staff and the meteor spell. But I️ am super squishy. I️ did get that scroll you for at the start.
I think Mage is the easiest class to level for the first time, my bread and butter has been the Meteorite staff instead of Lusat’s unless I needed the extra kick from the bonus for crystal magic other then that rock sling is my go to spell, it has the bonus dmg from the Meteorite staff with the added benefit of doing a high chance of crits on heads that knock the boos or mob out. I wa able to kill Astel first try with a +10 mimic for distraction. I also run with Lordsworn Magic Greatsword for those times when I need the sword magic with some kick with ashes that I change as needed. I have played so many builds but Mage is my fav to level up.
“The only way to get to Caelid is to kill Rannala” This is not true, you can skip to Caelid by going to the “Dragon burnt ruins” in Limgrave, then you look for the stairwell leading down into a room, open the chest which is actually a trap, and get taken to a certain mine. From where you spawn in the mine… leave the room and immediately turn left to jump off of the ledge, then from here just try to get away from the bug guys and grab the site of grace. Walk out the other side of the room where the sit of grace is and you’re in Caelid.
I’ve played an Int build at every level except end game (start to around 110) so basically I’ve played a mage on 4 separate occasions and at different points of the game and in my experience of also having done low level faith, end game faith, low level strength, mid level dex, high level strength, end game arcane, mid level str/fai. For some reason Intelligence builds (outside of Boss fights and PvP) are some of the weakest and/or most boring builds in ER. on the one hand I can nuke Morgott before he can transition to phase 2 but on the other I die in two hits despite 40 vigor (compared to dying in 5-6 hits as a DEX character) run out of mana after 3 enemies in the overworld and If I want to conserve FP I just use only Glintstone kris which is stronger than my spells, for less than half the cost. Intelligence is so unbalanced within itself it’s genuinely unfun.
Int/dex ftw in solo. 40-50 dex and 68 int (this goes through whole game). Will smoothly clear all annoying pve encounters with spells and have awesome selcetion of weps for bosses. In case you are really bad there is moonlight greatswors that cheeses every single boss (including Malenia, she is one of easier ones in fact). Really safe playthrough.
prince of death staff power overall is best.Need faith for it though.Been playing around on a mod and have a lvl 713 with all items dual wield even.Laded with enough runes to lvl fully and some. All spells and 99 of all remembrances even though you already have all that.I only use the items that i find in game I just wanted a full lvl toon so i can play all the different builds without having to have 12 toons or more.Im old I do not have all that time to invest anymore but it is fun.You still have to play well they still can wail on you,you just get to live one more time where a shot with low hp would have you dead.I have a hybrid lightning build with incants Crag and Bolt. and 1 magic power Comet azure for the oh shit times. You don’t need talismans for that because they are dead before you go through FP,I have never needed Mixed physics. You get plenty of stamina and mind, only the meteorite of astel will eat your mind fast. Then you need mixed Physic. You can also wear all the armor you want with endurance.
Intelligence is a lot harder than people like to believe. As someone who has played the game with pure strength, then dex, int, faith and arcane, the intelligence requires a lot of spacing and distance knowledge, some bosses are easier with intelligence some are near unplayable especially with the bosses that rush you in melee range and give you no space for distance and casting. With strength and dex you can treat every boss the exact same way and win, with faith and especially intelligence you have to change a lot in your playstyle depending on the boss.
OP w. leveling: 80 int/80 faith, Prince of Death Staff (420 spell scaling), Golden Order seal, dark moon gs, staff of loss off hand (30%), graven mass/scorpion/godfreys/Alexander’s (35% for charged spells), rannis hat. Use night comet charged, ice spells. If do right, no can defence. Meteorite staff offhand w physical spell as alternate.
5:25 it is easy to stagger bosses or anything with a Rock Sling spell. 12:50 You don’t need to kill Renalla to get to Caelid, you can go there from the get go 13:13 For the base game, 2 staffs are the best Lusat’s Glintstone Staff (with the side effect) thus Carian Regal Scepter is the most practical one and you get it from Renala’s remembrance Less blue with a bit of faith sorceries can be also very good. Dark Moon sorcery has also ton of uses.
Best place for early game grind is dragon fork in caelid. The guys on the road are easy to kill and drop over 1k runes each. Once u hit the the fork go right then travel up the road and then once at the top before the weird tree guy go up and u turn that will lead u to a tree that will drop u pretty much right back at the fork sight of grace.
Would have been enough if you just showed the aow “carian grandeur”, which seems to be the most OP of the “normal” skills. Combine it with scorpion charme talisman, godfrey icon and the buffs of your choice and you have the strongest magic skill which hits like a truck (fuck azurs comet, accurate like my grandma) In my personal opinion, it just feels wrong to play a game like Elden Ring with ranged attacks, that ruins the whole Souls-like experience … If you say “thats bullshit”, just try the method mentioned above or try the faith fire incantations, same in green. Its like cheesing the game
Got a lot of sucess playing mages. I soled every boss (not even spirit ashes summons) at 125 cap pure mage int 80 and no other weapon. Beat a lot of people as at arena as in invasions with 3 different weapons and a pvp build str + int or dex + int: Ranni Greatsword or Moonveil or any common greatsword with glinstone pebble. I tryed pure mage pvp too 60 int, with no weapon at all, just magic and it worked fine at arena (single opponent) but not in invasions against multiples enemies. Even in arena it was just fine, not great. I have actually 2 mages: one at 125 and the other at 150 cap.
You kept talking about a shortage of runes but really just slap on your Scarab of Stinginess and go to that place in northeast Caelid to farm those little midgets. With your Scarab talisman equipped, each midget is worth 1500 runes. It’s easy to get 10 – 20 midgets in a single run before you have to rest at the site of grace again, so it’s like downing a boss.
a very informative and well made guide … thanks for sharing …. the “Carian Slicer” is the bread and butter sorcery for my magican and with the two in The Academy of Raya Lucaria early to get sorceries buffing talismans Radagon Icon (shortens the casting time of spells) and Graven-School Talisman (raises potency of Sorceries by 4%) it`s quite OP, don`t want to miss it anymore … it`s effective against nearly all kind of enemies imo and costs only a little FP and I`ve no problems at all to go into melee combat even as a magican, for me melee combat is very entertaining in Elden Ring and sometimes an even safer way to fight against bosses while acting from underneath or behind them and their surprising and fast long reach or aoe attacks can`t hit you in most cases
My only issue is that you can get to LotL, Volcano Manor, and AP all before killing Margit or Godrick. For Lotl you just run past stormveil main gate and go north. Start the manor quest with the volcano girl in lotl. Use the backdoor to AP, meet the chick at the top of the dectus lift, get teleported to VM.
Well, as someone who has been using a magic build in Elden Ring, this is the closest you can get to an easy mode in the game. It’s not perfect for the later stages of the game, but with a good summon – choughTICHEcough – you should be able to find a way to successfully beat most bosses without too much trouble.
Who would have thought that Dave Goggins is an INT main? Wild. Seriously though INT seems like it has by far the highest ceiling for overall raw damage output. Yeah most builds can buff their way to insane damage with certain setups, but disgusting nuke damage is just the basic toolkit for Sorcery at higher levels. Also the somber INT weapons are consistently some of the strongest overall
Int dex is the funnest way to play imo IF you avoid the moonlight sword and moonveil. If you can put carian grandeur on a magic lordsworn sword it’s better than the carian knight sword and you get better weapon art scaling. Wing of astel has a good r2 but its not as busted as darkmoon gs. A good combo to use is charged carian piercer into carian grandeur. If you land it you can get 4k damage with all the right talismans. Nebula is also good at staggering
Fun fact: any sword w carian grandeur deals more dmg than the carian knight sword because of how skill dmg works. The formula (iirc) counts base atk, weapon level, int lv and afinity. Since Carian Grandeur doesnt have an afinity it lacks the dmg of the afinity scaling. Most of the time the devs give said weapons higher base stats or an alternate stronger version of the same ash of war to compensate for the dmg but in the case of carian knight sword they dint do that.
no such thing as ugly or short or for or sx or intel x or remind or small or not compare or knowx or acceptx or have or get x or girx or not or reject or etc or x exp failx manx about itx or etc, bx, tallx etc inferiorx bloat, doesn’t matter, ceptuxuax, think, do, be, outx, infi man, can think, do, be, outx infix man etc any nmw and any s perfect, just you are 1uferiox, any infix relatx etc any nmw, doesn’t matter, any better goalx than you brutex pgskn etc
efficent mage playthrough: get meteorite staff and rock sling, kill margit, godfrey and rennala. Get comet azur and upgrade carian regal scepter, kill margot, fire giant and get a homing spell like stars of ruin or ancient death rancor to kill malakeith. kill gideon, godfrey and get spiral shard spell thingy for final boss
Spoiler Alert You forgot the sword of night and Flame can knock down foes (almost as useful against high-poise opponents as Haima’s Gavel, or Carian Peircer), which I paired with the Crystal Sword or the Carian shield. This way, you can have decent damage negation as well (since weight is an issue), especially with the Talisman Shield. One can almost immediately get both swords because they are hidden in the field, although St. Trina’s is a better pairing. Also, you can skip Stormveil entirely once you have torrent. Since you can also make it to the Starscourge festival easily with torrent, one can make quick work of Queen Renala, enabling access to the capital. From here, one can ride through it to Margot and I didn’t even need His/Mohg’s Shackle, or Azur’s comet to defeat him. The run to the giant’s flame is fast if you know where to go. By the way, the serpent-slayer wasn’t necessary for Rykard at this point either. I only leveled int, fai, arc, and dex from Astrologer. FYI: some liars are not lying where hidden walls are concerned. At least one does not break after one hit, some are not active yet, and others only work one way.
It’s funny how someone who’s never used magic before managed to check all the boxes for your stereotypical mage run lol. My first playthrough was a mage, ended up using glintstone spirals to get out of most jams, it eats through big enemies like you wouldn’t believe. I hate comet azur, it’s like trying to cheese a fight, that’s more effort to cheese, than it is to just fight them. And if you don’t believe me, try getting Radahn health to almost exactly half, while the summons are active, and getting him to take a swim when he hits phase two. I dare you to tell me it’s not just easier to smack him a dozen times till he dies.
This is my first fromsoft game. I absolutely love it. I started out as a mage build already knowing everyone considered it an easy mode but it slowly evolved into a sort of spellblade build where i buff my sword with magic then range whenever someone gets a bit far away and currently am keeping my strength and intelligence equal. I kinda pigeonholed myself into a glass cannon sort of character. Im at the horse-knight boss before entering the city on the altus platue and im a bit stuck kuz i think i made a mistake by making a split strength/intelligence build. Was it stupid that i did this? Should i go re-spec?
