Does Spell Support From Life Leech Work?

Berek’s Grip and Doryani’s Catalyst are gems that allow players to leech life from spells, but they have not been popular in a while. Life Leech Support is a support gem that causes skills to leech life based on damage dealt, and it works with physical DMG spells like bear trap or Etheral knives. However, it only works with attacks, not spells.

In Path of Exile, leech is a skill that recovers life, mana, or energy shield based on damage dealt to enemies. The Life Leech Support gem works with any kind of damage (physical, elemental, or chaos) and can be modified with a modifier that says “you gain x life for all damage you do, ever”.

Life Leech is readily available for both mana and life, and all leech mechanics act the same way for life, mana, and energy shield. Examples in this article will use life, but if the character has equal statistics for both types of damage, it may be hard to balance.

For small skirmishes, passive life leech on spells should not be a thing, as life drain is an active spell. Energy leech support can be used, but it works with spells but not with DoT.

In summary, life leech is dependent on weapon damage, and small life leech is effective when hitting stuff for a lot of damage. Life Leech Support is a support gem that allows players to leech life based on the amount of damage dealt to enemies.

Is Leech Life a good move?

Leech Life, a weak attacking move in Pokémon Red and Blue, was one of the worst moves in the series due to its low power and lack of utility. It was a common choice for Pokémon to avoid, even Bug-types, due to its low power. However, with the release of Sun and Moon, Leech Life changed significantly, gaining base 80 power instead of 20. This change made it more effective in the endgame and required the movesets of Pokémon who started with it to be changed to prevent wielding such a powerful move quickly. This often involved replacing the move with Absorb, a Grass-type version of the original Leech Life.

No other move in Pokémon has seen such a significant power boost as Leech Life, with only Self Destruct and Explosion having such large boosts. Leech Life’s rise in strength is unprecedented in the series, and it is worth teaching to any Pokémon that can learn it, much like Pokémon BDSP’s best TMs. Leech Life’s rise in power is unlike any other move in the series, making it a valuable addition to the Pokémon arsenal.

Are there any benefits to leeching?

Leech therapy, a blood-sucking creature, has been used in medicine for thousands of years to promote blood circulation in specific areas, especially after a procedure. In orthopaedic medicine, leeches are particularly useful when a patient is recovering from digit replantation, particularly fingers. When reattached arteries pump too much blood into the digit, veins struggle to circulate it away, causing swelling and potentially killing the newly reattached finger.

A leech attached to the affected finger’s tip helps remove unwanted blood, restoring proper blood flow. Leech therapy is also used after skin flap attachment to prevent tissue congested during the process. Leech saliva contains substances that patients benefit from, such as a local vasodilator that improves blood supply and natural anticoagulants like hirudin and calin that prevent clots.

  • Only addendum you should add is that Bowazon’s get hit even worse on life leech (not sure about Javazon’s). Otherwise great article. Didn’t know about the 3rd category for life leech. I knew about skelly’s and physically immune only because I died a lot to both “back in the day” or had no spell points after WW through them with my Barbarian.

  • One thing that you didn’t mention is that not only are there those difficulty penalties, but ALSO monsters get an innate physical resistance. So with 100% life steal, and 1000 damage in normal, you would leech 1000 hp per hit. Nightmare is 50% of your life steal, but monsters have +25% physical resistance. So its really 50% of 750 damage. So we go from 1000 life stolen, to 375. Hell mode is 33.3%, but monsters have a +50% resistance. So its really 33.3% of 500 damage. Now we have gone from the 1000 life per hit, to ~170, or half of nightmares already significant drop. A good rule of thumb is whatever you got in normal is gonna be 33% in NM, and 17% in hell. Of course, this does change based upon the monster, because some monsters have an innate physical resistance. This is why the specters in arcane sanctuary and the like become phys immune in hell. They already had a 50% resistance in normal.

  • hey GGM thanks for great content as always man. I have few questions 1) Should we count the max physical damage or in between of max-min which would be more pathetic :p You counted your max physical damage in this article which is 1650 2) Can same calculation be applied for mana leech? 3) Is that drain effectiveness for both life and mana leech?
