Camden and Paterson for sure are cesspools of violence, gangs, and drugs and I don’t have very much good to say about either except the waterfront in Camden is a dope spot for concerts but I lived in Union City and Mt. Laurel which are right next door to W. NY and Lindenwold respectively and they are not really close at all to the terrible nature of some of the other places listed. Even Newark is filled with wonderful restaurants and tons of places to see art. I truly don’t think it was your intention, but you make NJ out to be worse than it actually is, intentional or not.

Having lived in NJ for over 50 years, I tend to agree, although I would rate Camden the worst city over Newark. We pay the highest taxes in the country and I have no idea what Big Government spends all the money on. One can make these same statements about any state in the country with the big cities being poverty stricken and the best places to live in the suburbs. NJ has no natural disasters, no tornados, no earthquakes, no hurricanes, etc. Plus, there are advantages living near NYC and Philly as far as corporate employment. Once people retire, they move because it is too expensive to live here.

A few inaccuracies from this article. 1. While the numbers of Passaic might seem alarming, this is really only relevant to downtown. Southern Passaic close to NJ 3 is home to a growing upper middle class community many of whom are Orthodox Jews who send their children to private schools and therefore do not count in the dropout metrics. 2. Newark is bad but to say that it is not improving is a gross falsehood. University Heights, downtown, and Ironbound are being gentrified the shit out of and many young professionals, students, and corporate executives live there. 3. People in New Jersey can be rude but most are actually really nice and down to earth, especially in the suburbs and more remote areas. Residents are generally guarded due to high crime and homelessness in certain areas but most people, in fact, do say please and thank you. As you said, New Jersey is a state with vast amounts of natural beauty, especially in the Northwest, with subpar and dangerous cities which need some definite fixing but is definitely not as bad as your rhetoric portrays.

I live in Union City West New York all that area and you speak that the streets are dirty and you are showing Bergenline and the streets are cleaning. For many years I live there and I move out nothing to do with cities. I love those small City and I like to go to shopping there. Where are living Bayonne Nj and I like but for shopping and eating Union City and West New York the only problems is the rents are highest than in Bayonne.
