The crooked forest is like becouse a bug wich lay its eggs in the top bud of the pine trees. Becouse the top bud is gone one of the side buds take its place and its try to go back straight so thats why is crooked. Regarding the mounds littered around the country in Ireland, there’s no real government willpower/branch dedicated to uncovering most of our history. That’s why most of the sites look like they do and why a number of castles from history lie in ruins. Most sources describe him as a cruel, sadistic, perverted and psychotic murderer. He may have improved Romes infrastructure, but a lot of them did that weren’t quite so crazy. All that aside, he was assassinated anyway for his trouble and then a more meek and mild Claudius took over. The process of creating the pyramid’s giant blocks was easily accomplished by building wooden frame molds and pouring concrete made from ground limestone. Makes much more sense than the previous theories involving impossible feats.

I am a major ancient history lover, so I am happy to learn more about it. Additionally, I went to Chichen Itza. When you mentioned the Cenote it reminded me, there was a barred off area that actually had a massive hole in the ground. The tour guide mentioned about people getting pushed into the hole. They also said that when they explored it, there was 100,000 people down there. I admit, it has been 10 years since then so the information I just mentioned is most likely wrong since I don’t remember what was said. There are many sites and architecture that wasn’t mentioned. I have always been fascinated with the Bermuda triangle and the other similar places around the world. Also, Easter island and the natives along with Stonehenge, the land of Fars before Persia, the lighthouse and library of Alexandria, and so much more.

Akrotiri on the Greek Island of Santorini. Buried in ash around 1,600 BC the part that has been excavated was the town itself with 2 and 3 story buildings and one with a 4th story loft for a toilet room. No bodies have been found as if the folks got out of town before Santorini blew its top. I am lucky enough to have been to some of the places on the list and all were fantastic.

Love this article! I’ve always been so deeply fascinated by the architecture and engineering of the ancient world. I remember 6th grade me pouring over books detailing Roman baths and Greek temples. I do have 1 critique though. I would love to have heard about structures outside of Europe, the Middle East, and central America. Asia has some absolutely incredible ruins and Africa’s east coast as well. I would love to have heard about zanzibar, ankor watt, Timbuktu, and the incredible amount of Hindu and Buddhist temples strewn throughout South and East Asia.

The domus aureas “octagonal room” wasnt the one that rotated. That was part of the actual palace on the esquilline hill. u might not have included this one but it is trippy non the less. the Tudor houses that sport black beams on white stucco like plaster. Those striking black timbers were originally just left brown and not painted. The name “Hiram” is pronounced HIGH-rem, and Chichén Itsá is “chee-CHEN eet-SA.” The name is Mayan, and the diacritical marks over the e and a, as in Spanish, indicate where to stress the syllables. Most Americans pronounce it as you did, but we do need to be respectful of the culture by trying to speak as accurately as possible. Just sayin’…

What i have never understood, is that some of these places could EASILY be rebuilt, paying great attention to using the same materials and building techniques of the original, so many of these places could be brought back to their heyday and allowed to preserver for generations to come instead of simply sitting there rotting away into nothing.

idk about the rest, but there isn’t a pit on top of the pyramid in chichen itza. it is just a pyramid, actually, built on top of other older smaller pyramids. in the area of chichen itza (the city) there are cenotes, but i couldn’t find any source that said what he said. Also, as far as I remember visiting the place, the place where the sacrifices were made, were not on the top of the pyramid, but in a specific building nearby (that you can actually visit). If you are ever in the area (such as Cancun) it is definatelly woth a visit.

If you go to parts of Montana in America you will find sand/earth ripples that are 1 mile or more apart, this would, indicate that when the Comet Impacted Greenland, it instantly melted the North American Ice Cap that was on average 2.5 miles thick and would have sent Sunami type waves out over 1,000+ feet tall up to 1 kilometer tall at a minimum. These can also be found in the Northwester Part of Africa around the Eye of the Sahara (a potential spot for Atlantis)! And in that area, there is huge salt deposits, indicating it was destroyed by Sea Water, not Fresh water there in Northwestern Africa. Prior to that event we know that the Northern half of Africa was a densely Forested Tropical Climate (green vegetation and trees, similar to the rain forests in Brazil). So, what would bring in that much sand and debris. Massive Sunami waves, one after the next rippling the earth or gigantic size!

I was considering instant-disliking this article for the clickbait thumbnail of the Colossus straddling the harbour, but this is actually a great article and very well presented! One thing he forgot to mention regarding the Mayan cities is that they wouldn’t have been surrounded by trees back in their prime (7th century). The forests and jungles were cleared to make the temples, streets, and markets of Tikal and Chichen Itza, so there would have been very few trees in the actual cities themselves. They would have resembled large clearings in the middle of the jungle with red structures.

I’ve always wondered about the Colossus of Rhodes story. It never seemed possible a statue that large could have been built back then. And as the article points out, even today, the largest statue is only about a third of the size the Colossus would have been. Another wonder is if we will ever really know how the Great Pyramid of Giza was built. There are still several theories as to how they got the stones to the location, then how they were maneuvered into place, as well as how many people it took and how long it took. How do you move 2.5 ton stones over those distances and then build a giant pyramid with them? And last but not least, I only picked up on one error in the article. At about the 18:32 point, the city of Ctesiphon was being discussed. Then at about 18:56, the Taq Kasra arch in the city was mentioned along with the wealth of the city making it a target for invaders. The error I mentioned is at around the 19:15 point of the article. The narrator stated the Romans attacked three times between “1616 and 198 AD”. The screen was showing the actual years he meant to state, between 116 and 198 AD.
