Good Bard Spells For The Thunder Of Storm King?

The Lore Bard is a wizardy bard that may not be suitable for those with low Intelligence. The Glamour Bard is the bardiest bard, with spells targeting Wisdom or Dexterity being strong and weaker than those offering Strength or Constitution saves. Slow is good for durable characters, and options include Dragonborn Paladin of Vengeance or Half Orc Battlemaster. A Lore Bard pairs well with big DPS characters like faerie fire and inspiration, providing spotlight time outside of combat.

The Storm King’s Thunder adventure offers custom fronts, villains, depth, and the Dam of the Beselmir Kings. The Starter Set adventure Lost Mine of Phandelver is an excellent introduction to the game, with a spelljammer ship and Morkoth. The Unfailing Inspiration makes the Bardic Inspiration dice go further, and any of the Bard subclasses are good choices.

The best Bard spells in the game at mid levels are Minor Illusion and Vicious Mockery Charm Person, Healing Word, Faerie Fire, Thunderwave, and Animal Friendship. Bladesinger, Rune Knight, and Twilight Cleric are also suitable options for Wizards. For front line characters, Totem is the strongest pick, and vHuman is good for feats. Thunder Wave is an AoE damage spell that scales well with slots, and Bane effectively gives away known spells.

In conclusion, the Lost Mine of Phandelver is a friendly adventure for both new DMs and players. If choosing between OotA and SKT, go with the latter.

Some damage types had different names in previous editions, such as ‘thunder’ damage being’sonic’ in 3rd edition and ‘lightning’ damage being ‘electricity’. 5e doesn’t have ‘negative energy’ or positive energy damage, but necrotic and radiant damage cover the same territory. The majority of these changes occurred in the 4th edition.

Why is thunder so powerful?

Lightning is a discharge of electricity that can heat the air around it to 30, 000°C (54, 000°F), causing it to expand explosively, creating a shock wave that turns into a booming sound wave known as thunder. In a thunderstorm, ice crystals high within the cloud flow up and down, crashing into each other, causing electrons to be knocked off and added to other ice crystals. This separates the positive (+) and negative (-) charges of the cloud, with the top becoming positively charged with protons and the base becoming negatively charged.

A lightning bolt is formed when the negative charge at the bottom of the storm cloud links up with the ground’s positive charge. When the negative charge at the bottom of the cloud becomes large enough, a flow of negative charge called a stepped leader rushes toward the Earth, while the positive charges at the ground are attracted to the stepped leader, causing a strong electric current to carry positive charge up into the cloud, known as the return stroke.

  • Loved this series!! Am planning a DnD campaign combining Storm King’s Thunder with Tyranny of Dragons, with Iymrith, Claugiyliamatar, Tchazzar, Voaraghamanthar, and Arveiaturace forming a Chroma Conclave like the one from Vox Machina as the leaders of the Cult of Dragons (renamed the Dragon Army), with Arkhan the Cruel and Kansaldi Fire-Eyes being two of the army’s generals.

  • I know it’s not the end of your Storm King’s Thunder articles, but it is a bit crazy that we’re at the last chapter of the book (especially since my party is still slowly but surely making their way through chapter 3). Your content has been of phenomenal help in prepping for and running my campaign and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

  • Excellent! I’m very torn about having Harshnag come back. My party loved him and are furious over his death. Not sure if his triumph return would be their favorite part of the whole campaign or feel cheap somehow. Not really sure. Love your description of it though and making me learn towards bringing him back.

  • I’m personally gonna toss the four elementals in Imryths hoard room and instead have her hoard be a hoard golem from the Tome of Beasts by kobold press, along with maybe swap the purple wormlings with a couple animated lightnings from the Fizban’s book….the joys of balancing for a 3 player party, although I love the idea of Merren returning as a storm giant Quintessent. I’m super excited for my party to get to this fight, we are getting my ancient blue dragon mini painted up soon because my party just finished the eye of the all father for the first time
