How Astrology Determines Varna?

Astrology is an ancient practice that provides knowledge about our personalities and destinies. The Varna, or the Moon sign, is determined by the nakshatra occupied by the Moon, such as Janma or Lagna, and contributes 1 point out of 36 to the compatibility score. The Chandogya Upanishad states that varna is allocated based on one’s birth and previous birth, with those who did good work in this world having a higher varna.

The main aim of horoscope matching or checking for Varna Koota is to determine if the bride and groom can lead a harmonious relationship. There are four known varieties of varna: varnas of the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and others. Varna is determined by past life karma and cosmic energy naturally based on the time of birth.

There are only four varnas that a kundali can be classified into. In Vedic astrology, the varna is determined by the Chandra Rasis or the position of the Moon in an individual’s birth chart (horoscope). Varṇas are expressed in time or kala, with early morning being brahmamahurata and the Kshatriya time of the day being kshatriya time of the day.

Varna Koota refers to the calculation of the native’s varna, meaning type, order, or cast, to analyze the compatibility of the couple. This study will guide us to know the work life of a person based on the Varna system for a general population and help us understand Vedic Astrology. The Varna of the bride and groom is determined by their Moon sign or Rashi, and it contributes 1 point out of 36 to the compatibility score.

WHAT IS YOUR VARNA? According to Vedic teachings, there are 4 Varnas. They reflect people’s nature, purpose, and role in life.

How do I know if I am kshatriya?

Kshatriyas are strong-willed devotees who surrender their life and ego to God in their quest for self-conquest. They traditionally serve society through their administrative, executive, and protective qualities, focusing on valor, vigor, resourcefulness, fortitude, skill, courage, munificence, and inspirational leadership. However, kshatriyas have not yet realized that serving others outwardly is not as fulfilling as serving their inner happiness.

Members of the caste are associated with roles of rulers and warriors, but true members serve to uplift others. They may also take the form of monks or householders who stand up for their beliefs and lead others towards victory. The constitution of kshatriyas is marked by the predominance of rajas and sattva gunas, which represent activity or energy and enlightenment.

What happens if Varna is 0?

A marriage is permitted if the Varna Kuta score is zero or does not match. However, it should be noted that this may result in a reduced level of mutual understanding between the two parties involved. The provided chart should be utilized to facilitate the matching of a couple’s Varna Kuta.

What is the basis of Varna system?

The Chandogya Upanishad posits that a person’s varna is determined by their past actions, with those who performed well in their past life achieving a good birth, such as a brāhmin, kṣatriya, or vaiśya, and those who did poorly, such as a dog, pig, or casteless person, achieving a bad birth. However, the Vajrasuchi Upanishad argues that the status of a Brahman is not based on birth, knowledge, or karma but on the direct realization of one’s inner self, or soul. The Vedas, smritis, Itihasa, and Puranas all believe that a Brahmana is someone who has directly realized their Atman, is devoid of class and actions, and has a mind untouched by pride and egoism.

What is the most powerful varna in the caste system?

In Hinduism, ‘varṇa’ refers to a social class within a hierarchical traditional Hindu society. The ideology is exemplified in texts like Manusmriti, which ranks four varnas and prescribes their occupations, requirements, and duties. The four varnas are Brahmins, who are Vedic scholars, priests, or teachers; Kshatriyas, who are rulers, administrators, or warriors; Vaishyas, who are agriculturalists, farmers, or merchants; and Shudras, who are artisans, laborers, or servants. This quadruple division is a form of social stratification, different from the more nuanced system of Jātis, which corresponds to the European term “caste”.

Was Varna system based on karma?

The Bhagavad Gita explains the Varna system based on Guna and Karma, with talent being the deciding factor. Is Varna hereditary?

In ancient India during the Vedic Period (c. 1500-1000 BCE), citizens were classified according to their Varna or castes, which defined their hereditary roots and class. Four principal categories were identified: Brahmins (priests, gurus), Kshatriyas (warriors, kings, administrators), Vaishyas (agriculturalists, traders, etc.), and Shudras (labourers). Each Varna outlined specific life principles, and newborns were required to follow these customs, rules, conduct, and beliefs.

The first mention of Varna is found in the Purusha Suktam verse of the ancient Sanskrit Rig Veda. Purusha is the primordial being, composed by the combination of the four Varnas. A society is also constituted by these four Varnas, who, through their obedience to the Varna rules, are provisioned to sustain prosperity and order.

A newborn in a specific Varna is not mandatory to obey its life principles; individual interests and personal inclinations are attended upon with equal solemnity to uproot conflicts between personal choice and customary rules. The rights of each Varna citizen are always equated with their individual responsibilities.

The purpose of the Varna System was to decongest the responsibilities of one’s life, preserve the purity of a caste, and establish eternal order. Specific tasks were designated to each Varna citizen, and a Brahmin behaving as a Kshatriya or a Vaishya debases themselves, becoming unworthy of seeking liberation or moksha.

In conclusion, the Varna system in ancient India was based on the principles of societal hierarchy and the importance of adhering to life duties and beliefs.

How is Varna decided?

The Varna system was a hierarchical system that divided society into four categories based on socio-economic status, sacrifice, and contribution to the Dharma. It was not as rigid as the caste system, allowing individuals to practice any occupation based on their capability. The four principal categories of the Varna system were:

  1. Social Status: People were classified based on their socio-economic status, sacrifice, and contribution to the Dharma.
  2. Contribution: People were not considered untouchables.

Can Varna be changed?

Caste is an immutable social category, whereas varna is determined by one’s abilities. For example, those who demonstrate excellence in combat are assigned the varna of Kshatriya, those who exhibit proficiency in knowledge are designated as Brahmin, and those who excel in service are classified as Shudra.

How do you find Varna in astrology?

In astrology, the concept of Varna is determined by the position of the Moon in an individual’s birth chart. It is associated with an individual’s occupational nature and can assist in the identification of their potential aptitude for specific professions. Furthermore, it is uncertain whether a relationship between two individuals with disparate Varnas can be successful.

How is Varna decided in astrology?

Varna Koot is a Vedic process that matches the Varna of a couple based on their Moon sign or Rashi. The Varna of the bride and groom is determined by their Rashi, which contributes 1 point out of 36 to the compatibility score. The concept of Varna matching suggests that the groom’s Varna should be equal to or higher than the bride’s, as a husband with an equal or superior Varna can effectively care for, guide, and support his wife. If the bride’s Varna surpasses the groom’s, it is considered a Varna dosha or incompatibility, which can cause potential damage in the relationship.

Varna dosha can lead to disharmony, disrespect, conflicts, misunderstandings, and feelings of inferiority and dominance in a patriarchal society. Possible remedies to mitigate Varna dosha include chanting mantras, performing specific rituals, conducting rituals to appease afflicted planets, donating items to needy people, and adopting gemstones suitable according to the partners’ birth chart. While not a severe defect, Varna dosha can potentially harm the relationship in the long term.

  • Please read the chapter ” A plan of work for India” by Swami Vivekananda volume 4 the complete works page 362 to 365 fourteenth edition March 2016 which states ” Every Hindu knows that astrologers try to fix the caste of every boy or a girl as soon as he or she is born. That is the real caste _ the individuality, and Jyotisha recognises that. And we can only rise by giving it full swing again. This variety does not mean inequality, nor any special privilege.” That this is the only way we can understand the nature ( jati) of the reincarnate.

  • “Bhagavad Gita As it is” by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Chapter 2 verse 40: Translation: “In this endeavor there is no loss or diminution, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.” PURPORT “Activity in Krsna consciousness, or acting for the benefit of Krsna without expectation of sense gratification, is the highest transcendental quality of work. Even a small beginning of such activity finds no impediment, nor can that small beginning be lost at any stage. Any work begun on the material plane has to be completed, otherwise the whole attempt becomes a failure. But any work begun in Krsna consciousness has a permanent effect, even though not finished. The performer of such work is therefore not at a loss even if his work in Krsna consciousness is incomplete. One percent done in Krsna consciousness bears permanent results, so that the next beginning is from the point of two percent; whereas, in material activity, without a hundred percent success, there is no profit. Material activities and their results end with the body. But work in Krsna consciousness carries the person again to Krsna consciousness, even after the loss of the body. At least one is sure to have a chance in the next life of being born again as a human being, either in the family of a great cultured brahmana or in a rich aristocratic family that will give one a further chance for elevation. That is the unique quality of work done in Krsna consciousness.” 🙏
