How Can Merlin Restore His Magic?

In the Cursed finale, Merlin, a teenage sorce, is finally able to use magic to save his father’s life. Merlin spends most of the season trying to regain his magic through various methods, facing numerous challenges and even death. One major reason Merlin chose not to bring magic back to Camelot is because the Disir says that Mordred will die if Arthur doesn’t allow magic.

In Cursed, Merlin is a world-weary mess, stripped of his magic and overly fond of alcohol. He returns to their chambers late that night, having used his magic to cheat Arthur out of a pouch full of coins. The Gean Canach emerges and attacks him, but Merlin doesn’t have magic. Merlin regains his magic at the Crystal Cave, the birthplace of magic itself, where Balinor reveals that Merlin is the embodiment of magic itself and helps him realize his true power.

Morgana leaves Merlin in the only place in the world where he can get his powers back and doesn’t kill him. Arthur knows about Merlin and his magic, and Merlin takes him to the Lake and calls upon the Lady of the Lake to bring Excalibur to Arthur. Merlin regains his magic and realizes his full potential when he loses it.

The Cool Sword is a cool sword that Mordred gets to match. If Morgana hadn’t thwarted Merlin’s plan to save Uthor, Arthur would have allowed magic back into Camelot and Merlin could have revealed himself. The creature eventually discovered Merlin’s powers after Merlin used his magic to stop him from leaving his chambers.

Does Arthur ever find out Merlin has magic?

Arthur, the once and future King of England, was unaware of Merlin’s powers until the last episode of season 5 (“The Diamond of the Day: Part 2). In a bittersweet conversation, Arthur discovers everything Merlin had done and sacrificed for him. Arthur’s obliviousness to Merlin’s magic was hilarious, as he spent most of his time with the sorcerer. Merlin’s talents were quickly picked up by other characters and villains, making the situation even more funnier.

Arthur eventually found out in the show’s last episode, but he could have easily discovered earlier if some characters had exposed the wizard. Arthur’s presence is still present in many movies, such as King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and The Green Knight. Arthur’s Camelot flourished as he formed alliances with various sorcerers, including Merlin and Morgana. If the BBC’s adaptation followed the same path, Arthur and Merlin would have created the greatest kingdom of all.

Who is Merlin’s wife?

Gwendolen is a feminine given name, derived from Welsh words gwen meaning “white, holy/blessed” and dolen meaning “loop, link, ring”. It has been in use since the 19th century and is the standard English form of Latin Guendoloena. Geoffrey of Monmouth first used the name for a legendary British queen in his History of the Kings of Britain in 1138. He later used it in his Life of Merlin for a different character, the wife of the titular magician Merlinus.

Dr. Arthur Hutson suggests that “Guendoloena” may have arose from a misreading of the old Welsh masculine name Guendoleu. In the Vita Merlini, Geoffrey Latinized the masculine name of Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio as Guennolous. The name reoccurs in the anonymous Latin romance De Ortu Waluuanii belonging to Arthur’s queen Guinevere. It did not become a common English given name until the 19th century, with early examples being Lady Gwendoline Anson and Gwendolen appearing in George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda.

Meanwhile, Morgana harbors apprehension towards him, perceiving him as a harbinger of misfortune.

Who betrayed Arthur in Merlin?

The third season of “The Wicked Game” began with Arthur and Merlin embarking on various missions to find Morgana, who had been missing for a year. They found her and returned her to Camelot, but Arthur was unaware that Morgana had switched sides and allied with Morgause to bring down Uther and Camelot. He did not discover her true allegiances or the fact that she was his half-sister until the penultimate episode, “The Coming of Arthur, Part One”.

Arthur’s relationship with Gwen continued to develop over the third series. In the episode “The Castle of Fyrien”, Arthur set out to help her rescue him along with Merlin and Morgana, who were actually in on the plan. In “Queen of Hearts”, Arthur stated that he would give up his right to the throne of Camelot for her after Morgana framed Gwen for witchcraft. He was devastated when Uther sentenced her to death.

However, after Gwen was saved by Merlin disguised as an old sorcerer, Arthur and Gwen agreed to keep their relationship secret for the moment. By the end of the season, Arthur decided to throw caution to the wind, even kissing her in front of others on more than one occasion in “The Coming of Arthur, Part Two”.

At the beginning of the fourth season, Arthur is sent on a mission to retrieve the Cup of Life from the Druids, unaware that Morgana and Morgause also sought it to use against Camelot. They briefly gain the Cup, but it is taken from them while they fled from Cenred’s men. By the time they returned to Camelot, Morgause had already used the Cup’s power to make Cenred’s army immortal and had taken command of it to storm the kingdom. Arthur and Merlin were forced to watch as Morgause stripped Uther of his crown and throne, and Morgana declared herself Uther’s daughter and Queen of Camelot.

In the fourth season, Arthur becomes Camelot’s regent, aided by the council and his uncle, Agravaine, who was his mother’s brother. Arthur finds Camelot under threat when Morgana sacrificed a dying Morgause to release the Dorocha, the spirits of the dead, to wreak her revenge on the kingdom. After learning that only another blood sacrifice will seal the rift that released the Dorocha, Arthur decides to sacrifice himself and set off for the Isle of the Blessed, accompanied by Merlin, Lancelot, Leon, Gawain, Elyan, and Percival.

In “The Wicked Game”, Arthur is struck down by an assassin trying to kill him. As Uther lay dying, Arthur seeks out a sorcerer who might heal his father’s wounds, unknowing that the sorcerer was Merlin in the same disguise he wore in the third-season episode, “Queen of Hearts”.

Arthur, a powerful king, is deeply demoralized by the betrayal of his father, Uther. His father’s death leads to him resenting magic and believing it to be evil. In “His Father’s Son”, Arthur is driven to execute an opposing king, Caerleon, which earns him the enmity of Queen Annis. Agravaine also influences Arthur to end his relationship with Gwen, who he later apologizes to.

In “A Servant of Two Masters”, Arthur remembers his dependence on Merlin and orders a thorough search for him. He eventually finds Merlin and is thrilled to see him. Arthur’s relationship with Gwen finally blossoms in “Lancelot du Lac”, but their engagement is destroyed when Morgana revives an amnesiac Lancelot and orders him to seduce Gwen with an enchanted bracelet. Arthur is enraged and even attacks Lancelot before imprisoning both of them.

Arthur is saddened by the loss of Gwen and becomes firmer and sometimes cruel. He threatens to send Merl to join Gwen in exile in “The Hunter’s Heart”. In “The Sword in the Stone, Part One”, Arthur is ambushed by an army led by Morgana and the warlord Helios. They are forced to flee Camelot, but Merlin enchants Arthur to get him to leave the city. They encounter smugglers Tristan and Isolde and are attacked by Agravaine and his forces.

At this point, Arthur is demoralized by the betrayal of a family member and doubts his destiny. Merlin leads him to where he had hidden Excalibur, telling him that only the true king of Camelot could pull the sword from the stone. Arthur trusts Merlin enough to try and pull the sword free, proving his worthiness and providing him with the boost of confidence needed to retake Camelot.

After reuniting with a large force, including knights Leon and Percival, Arthur leads them in an invasion of the castle. Morgana, who had fallen so far since her coronation, tells Arthur that her stance on magic led to her downfall. Arthur retaliates by saying that she was just like Uther, but Morgana is left powerless due to Merlin’s sabotaging her power the night before. She ultimately flees, leaving Arthur once again in control of Camelot. Shortly after, Arthur forgives Gwen for what happened in “Lancelot du Lac” before marrying her and crowning her Queen of Camelot.

Where does Merlin get his magic from?

Merlin, a legendary figure, is often depicted as a mad cambion born to a mortal woman and an incubus. He inherits supernatural powers and abilities, including prophecy and shapeshifting. Merlin matures to an ascendant sagehood and helps Arthur’s birth through magic and intrigue. Later stories have Merlin as an advisor and mentor to the young king, leaving behind a series of prophecies foretelling events.

The name Merlin is derived from the Brythonic name of the legendary bard Myrddin, which Geoffrey of Monmouth Latinized to Merlinus in his works. Some suggest that Geoffrey chose the form Merlinus to avoid resembling the Anglo-Norman word merde for feces. Merlin may also be an adjective, with the Latin form Merlinus being a euphony of the Celtic form Myrddin to bring him closer to the blackbird (Latin merula) into which he could metamorphose through his shamanic powers.

Myrddin may be a combination of *mer (mad) and the Welsh dyn (man), meaning’madman’ or ‘(of) many names’ if derived from the Welsh myrdd, myriad. In his Myrdhinn, ou l’Enchanteur Merlin, La Villemarqué derived Marz(h)in, which he considered the original form of Merlin’s name, from the Breton word marz (wonder) to mean ‘wonder man’. Clas Myrddin or Merlin’s Enclosure is an early name for Great Britain.

Does Merlin fall in love with Nimue?

The Lady of the Lake is a name or title used by several fairy or fairy-like but human enchantresses in the Matter of Britain, the body of medieval literature and mythology associated with the legend of King Arthur. She plays several important roles in many stories, including providing Arthur with the sword Excalibur, eliminating Merlin, raising Lancelot after the death of his father, and helping to take the dying Arthur to Avalon.

Different sorceresses known as the Lady of the Lake appear concurrently as separate characters in some versions of the legend since at least the Post-Vulgate Cycle and consequently the seminal Le Morte d’Arthur.

Today, the Lady of the Lake is best known as the character called either Nimue, or several scribal variants of Ninianne and Viviane. French and foreign medieval authors and copyists since the early 13th century produced various forms of the latter two, including: Nymenche (in addition to Ninianne / Ninienne) in the Vulgate Lancelot; Nim (i) ane and Ui (n / ui) ane (in addition to Viviane) in the Vulgate Merlin (Niniane in the version Livre d’Artus); Nin (i) eve / Nivene / Niviène / Nivienne and Vivienne in the Post-Vulgate Merlin (Niviana in the Spanish Baladro del Sage Merlin); and Nimiane / Niniame and Vivian / Vivien in Arthour and Merlin and Henry Lovelich’s Merlin. Further variations of these include alternate spellings with the letter i written as y, such as in the cases of Nymanne (Nimanne as in Michel le Noir’s Merlin) and Nynyane (Niniane).

  • I love this scene. Merlin was told over and over again by the widow if he doesn’t stop with his self-destructive behavior and help for once, he will experience something worse than death. He indeed did, his heart died along with his daughter or Merlin believed Nimue died. I wonder if he actually took control of the sword or turned evil but nonetheless I hope he gonna kill that Iris B***. Nimue could’ve acted more shocked tbh, but I guess that scene showed how vulnerable she was and doesn’t know what to do.

  • This and Nimue’s death were replayed so many times, the heart-wrenching expression on Merlin’s face as her hand slipped through his hand was so good! Her desperate call of ‘father’ as her hand started to slip, the rawness of her call, the fey queen who’s really just a girl at heart who just wanting to be saved for once (who doesn’t want to be strong all the time). The entire scene coupled with Merlin’s sobs as she fell was so good, best part of show! And then this scene! The cherry on top!

  • That little sneak thief Bitch ran off and he couldn’t get her with all that lightning!? Lmao! This show is not the best but it was entertaining enough to pass a Saturday afternoon. I have to admit it was satisfying to see Merlin in the avatar state👌🏾 I wanted to see how they were going to tie things together, but the show was quietly cancelled by Netflix. Answers to questions will not be revealed.

  • I am going to be so pissed if they don’t bring another season of this.. I mean, the last few scenes alone are like a preview for a much better show than this ever was.. Nimueh probably won’t die, but if they insist on having her for another season, I hope she at least plays the character as more action, and support character based, and not so much with the complaining, crying, and having sex… I don’t mean that in an incel sort of way, I mean, that’s literally almost all she did for most of this season.. Not so much as a female, but as a person in general, she’s very detestable (the character I mean, not the actress)..

  • They could’ve gone darker and grittier with this show tbh. I would have loved to see a more tribal and otherwordly fey-folk that makes you question what is real and not. Facepaints, various stages of ferality, glowing eyes in the dark, more druidic rituals etc. Costume and budget seems very much on point at times (especially with the Pendragon Soldiers), the widow cgi, battles etc, but sometimes it leans bit too much into Sword of truth/young adult series territory for my tastes. This however is one of the coolest Excalibur-designs to date, and the Lancelot reveal was rad.

  • This scene alone is enough to make me want a series of a movie based on merlin’s life theought out the better part of his 700 years life. The battles and the wars he has scene, especially the one where they went to rome And the memories he talked about with lord rugen. It must have all the legends the magic and how the sword came to be. I mean that language he spoke was just legendary!!! And how he summoned lightning

  • Yea the main character was such a bore, I really hope this just becomes the Merlin show cause he’s the most useful character so far. I’m even into Lancelot’s arc now but 13 Reasons chick is just the absolute worst. She’s somehow boring, annoying, pathetic, selfish, childish and brazenly arrogant all at once…it’s exhausting.

  • Small brained writers….. this scene could have been epic.. showing his anger and power against a horde of enemies instead he kills 5 pussy minion warriors.Big fail for the scene. Love that his powers wereso cool and all that but totally underwehlming vison on the parts of the writers. Would have liked to have seen him fuk up 500 men not 5 . Can’t wait for season 2

  • I’ve watched some scenes in my time and that’s got to be up there in the top 5! Totally epic! The music and everything just on point to his facial expressions just before and during his spell, Like towards the end of his spell his tone goes lower and the pitch of the music goes up at the exact same time goes up, Goose pimples, Tottaly brilliant!!! I just can’t believe they aren’t doing another season? Why?

  • U know why there isn’t good fantasy works as harry potter, hobbit and lord of rings, game of thrones, Viking that there is no good world build they care about the hero character that is good but if the world u made is silly so whole story won’t work first the story then the world then the drama the chaos the wars and of course good acting character that make u forgot that isn’t the real world and those people not acting that how u make 10/10 work

  • Great Scene, so much potential to see the wrath of the actual Merlin the Magician, who can use his magic now. Iris becoming a trinity guard and possibly ordering more Fey Purge, and a powerful new allies, cant wait for season 2! Oh wait, i forgot, stupid netflix cancelled one of the best series after The Witcher. Seriously, people who really love this show, we should start hashtag to have Cursed return for more seasons. I want to see this show more.

  • His daughter is yet to become the demi Goddess/FAE the lady of the lake keeper of the sword of Gwen the King of the Fae, her powerless father learns his power was merely suppressed by self hate, loss and despair to be “sparked” again. There is so much more to this story, this show could actually become super bad ass and run for a good 6 seasons given the remainder of the actual story left but will it, idk. I do know it will be pissing off millions if they do not follow up after such an epic ending cliff hanging scene of WTF he was and his the Great Wizard of ancient Legends, I want MORE NOWWWWWW Do not say you were not thinking the same!! You want it and you want it now, the shows makers better not do the netflix tease because this time they might get a public backlash to large to handle….. btw the Gwen I mention is the actual one from ancient Welsh Legend and that of what we know of the actual real druids and whom so is the King of the Fae, it probably in this show at least much like Gungnir of Odin is actually Trishula of the God Shiva in all reality historically speaking given where the peoples of old Europe and Old Scandinavia got this iconic and so very ancient history/story you be the judge from is from what we call Central to Southern Asia aka todays Middle Russia all the way down to toady what we call Central India, look up the effects and powers of these two weapons that probably were not just stories and you will understand what I mean, then knowing the “horse back traders” aka endo Europeans most ancient roots that we can use modern science to know were from this general area.

  • We will atone for this I promise if this happened like this in the past and you and a vessel somehow … Somehow this explain the link with Anakim Story even If I knew I could/would not take that path….. Daniel Sharman as Weeping Monk / Lancelot, the most powerful warrior in the army of the zealots. He is seen consistently to be the turning point in conflicts between human and Fey, and is seemingly able to track and lead the Paladins to Fey wherever they go, killing them without mercy, though he claims to spare children to spread his message. ——————————– Can I know why Gandalf was fighting me as Merlin in a dream back at Tania place ? Aragorn was the trap… I get what you meant or someone else meant when he Said I cannot get the Butter and the Money …. I’m always hated and backstabbed what kind of king would I make …. I do know it’s my birth right from Eastern Island lineage and Samuel de Champlain

  • after so many episodes…. this is the one that im really waiting for… the chance to see Merlin use his magic!!.. and got to say it gives me goosebumps the moment he pick up the sword!.. the emotion, the feeling all clicked!.. !!, it was the best scene!!.. Please we need season 2.. this is really a cliffhanger!..

  • This looks just like most of my fights in games. “Hey, that’s obviously OP guy. LEt’s all run at him one by one!” “But rest already tried it, they are all dead” “Who cares! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!” I remember one fight in Skyrim when guy tried to kill me, despite I threw his mate from bridge by shouting. He felt of bridge too.

  • Electrical Dragon I had in my inner eye from who did that came ? ( I did not make that up, you saw the mail I wrote about this months ago ) Was this Yahweh or Odin ? I know who gave me the finger when I took the Golden Verse but that Dragon I’m not sure…..I tought Raiden at first but figured Yahweh was called the thunder god..One God many name, same feature…. Well you are not Hecate that I can tell….Different feature….If you are Odin and Yahweh or Zeus …. How can you be the dick head cursing everyone for any reason in the old testament while being Odin….Old Testament was rewritten…Similar to Hitler rewritting the thora for the Jew if he had won…. I still came to acknowledge a higher being, not sure he or they like God word… I do see them both Gaius and Caprica when I say God….not them but you get the picture…. The universal God acting out without the need to be worshiped. Not like him, dont need an harem… and I came to like my sexual energy redistributed into my brain…. Dont like sexe as much as I used too…. You did not answer who is the Dragon ? See Ark Survival Main Building you built in village. Will I know what caused the Catacomb of paris ? I gate that when I get no answer…. Why do you say no and add it’s better like that ? You scared of what I will do if I figure what have happened ? You didnt say that for world war 2, now I really wanna know what happened their… Why do you say DNA test could answer some question ?

  • This show could’ve been so epic if they fixed some of the flaws coz the cinematography is done really well the effects are good. Merlin literally steals the show,he should’ve been the main character and nimue a co-lead Idk why but this is katherine langfords weakest perfomance i’ve seen, she was great in 13RW and did good in the other movies she was in but this was weak and bland as hell. The action was really good on every character except nimue it seemed like KAT didn’t train enough for the series and she couldn’t even swing the sword wihtout making it feel heavy on her lol. Nimue is supposed to be the lead but she is the worst written character and kat’s acting made it even worse. King arthur was also a major dissapointment lmao This is all my opinion you can have a different one so just sharing my thoughts here.

  • God damn floki is just belting out one epic character after another!!! Wtf does he even eat? He is the o ly reason I watched this whole series. Wolf blood witch faints after summoning 1 little whirlwind. In the mean time merlin shoots forks of lightning from his hands and kills everything around and does a lightning teleportation magic and doesn’t even break a sweat. Merlin should be main char in season 2.
