In Dark Heresy, Psykers roll between one and six d10s depending on their power level to invoke psychic powers. They use Spellcasting instead of Weapon or Ballistic skills, adding bonus from Ag/Str. For example, a Psyker can cast Fire Shield and Flame Breath during combat by choosing a point within 5 meters of their PR and opening a gate to the Immaterium at that point.
Psychic powers are treated differently in Dark Heresy, with a penalty for trying to cast and sustain multiple powers in 1e. A psyker is a person walking around and doing other things, and they may be able to cast spells until they can cast safely. If a psyker is more built around being a battle psyker and has fewer non-combat powers, the DM could turn to a more role-playing centric campaign.
Playing as a psyker is difficult, but it is not much different from DnD. Psykers can sustain a single psychic power without much effort once properly activated, but all Power Rolls the Psyker makes while sustaining a single psychic power are affected. Psykers use “powers” rather than “spells”, and their powers are subtle enough to require an Awareness Test to spot the fact that the psyker is making any gesture at all.
The number of psychic powers a Psyker can use each turn depends on their Mastery Level, which is a number with no other rule implications. Psykers will break the game, either by causing the heavens to cry blood, their enemies to burst into unnatural flames, or by causing the game to end.

Can psykers stop time?
The battle-psyker creates a stasis shell, a spherical area within range of their power, where time seems to stop and everything inside is frozen in time. This effect occurs when the occupants do not realize any time has passed. The shell is treated as an invulnerable barrier, preventing anything outside from entering or passing through.
The most powerful psychic adepts of the temporal arts can speed and slow the passage of time in a localized area for themselves, their allies, and enemies. The Psykana Discipline, learned by many Primaris Psykers, provides powers that require mastery with other psychic disciplines, such as telepathy and telekinesis.
Can black Templars take psykers?
The Righteous Crusaders detachment rule is a unique feature in the game that restricts players from taking any Psykers and variants of Gladiator, Repulsor, or Impulsor from the standard Space Marines index. Players can access the four Templar Vows, chosen at the start of the first battle round, which apply to any Adeptus Astartes models in their army for the entire game.
Suffer Not the Unclean to Live allows Melee weapons to gain Lethal Hits ability, making them automatically wounds when hitting in melee. Uphold the Honor of the Emperor grants units a 6+ Feel No Pain and Leadership of 5+, making it a safe bet. Abhor the Witch, Destroy the Witch offers a 4+ Invulnerable save against Psychic attacks and an Anti-Psyker 4+ rule, causing Critical Wounds against Psykers on a 4+. Accept any Challenge, No Matter the Odds gives Melee weapons Sustained Hits 1, making them spit out extra melee attacks on Critical Hits in combat.
There are six Stratagems to use in the game, primarily focused on units in melee. Fervent Acclamation allows characters to activate an additional Vow for a turn, turning their Crusader Squad into a blender or taking out their opponent’s key Psyker. No Escape locks down an opposing unit tied up in melee, forcing a Desperate Escape test or preventing them from falling back altogether on a 4+.
Devout Push has changed to something akin to the old Templar rules from the 4th, allowing units to move towards the opposing unit in their opponent’s shooting phase. Armour of Contempt debuffs the AP of enemy attacks on a unit by 1 for a phase, making it a solid defensive buff. Vicious Riposte gives a unit a fight on death ability on a 4+ or a 3+ if you took Uphold the Honor of the Emperor.
Are psykers heretics?
The Imperium of Man controls psykers, who are trained by its institutions and are used for various tasks in the Koronus Expanse. These psykers can access multiple abilities and talents, which can support their Archetype or alter their playstyle. They are considered heretics and can be created as a sanctioned psyker or become an unsanctioned psyker after becoming an Exemplar. In role-playing games, psykers can provide a character with a similar level of power to an Archetype, but they are more powerful and dangerous to their own allies. Heinrix is sanctioned, while Idira is unsanctioned. Psykers can be created as either sanctioned or unsanctioned depending on the character’s role in the game.
How do psyker powers work?
Psykers in Warhammer 40, 000 draw their powers from the Immaterium, the extradimensional realm of psychic energy, which is the source of all psychic energy in the universe. Human psykers, who are less disciplined and easily tempted, are often in danger of possession by the Daemonic entities of the Warp, the Ruinous Powers of Chaos, and the onset of insanity. Psykers in Warhammer 40, 000 possess varying degrees of psychic abilities, classified into Alpha Plus, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon. Primaris Psykers are the most potent human psykers, while Sanctioned Psykers serve in the Astra Militarum and Space Marine Chapters.
How powerful are psykers in Warhammer 40K?
Warhammer 40K players can utilize the psychic abilities of Psykers to manipulate the Immaterium of the Warp, but the alien nature of the Warp can corrupt its wielders. The weakest Psykers may die in spell casting attempts or become conduits for Ruinous Powers. To dominate the tabletop competition, players should consider adding the lore’s most powerful Psykers to their armies. With their help, they can turn the tide on losing battles or diversify their strategies.
Fans of Warhammer 40K may want to know the kind of allies and enemies they can face, especially those that can manipulate Ruinous Powers. While most Psykers in Warhammer 40K often end up being consumed by their untrained power, those who master their craft can become valuable assets to their factions. With both mankind and Xenos accessing Chaos Powers, fans of Warhammer 40K may be interested in the game’s most powerful Psykers and their impressive and horrifying feats.

Is Magnus a stronger psyker than the emperor?
Magnus, with his raw psychic potential, outweighed everything else, except for the Emperor. Malcador, with his intelligence and subtlety, is even more powerful than Magnus. However, he cannot join the Emperor’s “theric quest” through the warp. Only Magnus seems capable of accompanying his father. The Hive Mind, with its vast psychic bleed, is more powerful than the combined psychic bleed of trillions of organisms. These minds cannot shape the warp, making them not psykers. Instead, they are biological phenomena that can impact the warp without conscious thought.
Is every Grey Knight a psyker?
Grey Knights are powerful psykers who use the power of the Warp to battle Daemons, sorcery and madness. They channel their psychic energies into a protective ward called The Aegis, making them unpalatable to Daemons. They can wield forbidden black magic, harness tainted artefacts, and scour blasphemous tomes without being overwhelmed by Chaos’ cursed power. The Grey Knights hold a unique honor among the Adeptus Astartes, as none of their members have defected to Chaos in over ten thousand years of service.
Their armour is left unpainted, revealing the silver-grey of the ceramite, believed to be a desire for purity. The sigil of Malcador the Sigilite is acid-etched into their left gauntlet and tattooed on their flesh.

Darktide is here and the choice is now yours, what class will you choose to play? In this Warhammer 40K: Darktide video Codiak …
OKAY! Here’s the addendum I promised I’d make! 1) Opposed tests are not limited to combat. As I’ve been informed they can come up in a lot of places (Awareness vs Stealth, Willpower vs Charm, etc.) 2) Every Acolyte is given the General aptitude, no matter their background or any other factors. 3) Your Fate Threshold isn’t the maximum, just your starting amount. If your GM is feeling generous, you can be rewarded with more during your session. Also the Emperor’s Blessing is achieved by rolling a number equal to or greater than the listed value, not just a higher one.
Video is great but it’s hard to read the text on screen correcting/expounding as I’m trying to process what you’re (rapidly but very accurately) saying! Pausing becomes an absolute must, which I guess is okay considering the rest of the article is pretty much solid gold. Keep it up, but consider having the visuals support the spoken word instead of adding words on top of words!
Psyker was definitely best for dropping elite enemies quickly. From my beta experience, I have to say that the Zealot Preacher is the best all-rounder. I always seemed to be the last man standing even when we had the Ogryn meat shields. Perfect hybrid for anyone looking for versatility. And that thunder hammer feels really good to use and does massive damage against elites too.
You only mentioned the force sword and brainburst when their real “mage” ability is coming from the multiple variations of the force staff. I’m not sure which one was available during the beta, but there will be several more available on launch and those will likely determine your overall playstyle, not brainburst. So you really missed the mark by not mentioning it at all here.
