A good reminder that the ‘alarmists’ weren’t motivated by political opposition but were recognizing how dangerous, historically, the rhetoric was and where it could lead if it wasn’t taken seriously. The thing about being an alarmist that people don’t seem to appreciate… the abusive name calling and labels of ‘hysteric’ are much more tolerable than their fears being validated because if they are proven to be right, that means they failed. I love that the Daily Show keeps reposting this interview and I will engage and promote it every time as I hope more people come to understand that it wasn’t about the man or his policies, but the effect and harm of dangerous rhetoric if not taken seriously. It is what allowed the absurd ideas of QAnon and Plandemic to take hold on such a large segment of the American population after all.

Why take chances with people’s lives? Instead of telling people to not come to the inauguration this year, DO NOT GIVE THEM THE CHOICE. Make the ceremony an exclusively VIRTUAL and private event, held at an undisclosed indoor location, that they can only see on television or online. Also, close the capitol to the public and protect it and those inside. Nixon was forced to resign by the Republicans for a much less a crime. More people have died in this riot than in Bengazi. Timothy Snyder is a first class historian. He is also typical of our profession in that people ignore our warnings till it is too late. We spend our lifes studying and learning every detail of our subjects, to be able to recognise patterns and issue warnings so that people can learn from the past. And when we start warning, people ignore us and call us alarmists. Thanks Trevor for bringing him on, even though it had been better to do four years ago. He said the same things then, many of us did.

We need to get truth in journalism back. I know there has to be a way to get elected representatives to realize laws are needed to have them act as if under oath when on public media. Likewise journalistic outlets should represent that truth in a manner which clearly separates reporters opinions from the facts they present. Maybe getting a letter to my congressional rep?
