Tarot cards are a cursed possession in the horror game Phasmophobia, with a 1 in 7 chance per contract to spawn on default difficulty (except Insanity) and one specific spawn location per map. They can be picked up using the “E” keyboard shortcut or drawn by right-clicking on them. Each card in the deck generates a unique effect when used, from forcing ghosts to interact with objects or causing spirits to move.
In Phasmophobia, players draw one out of ten cards from its deck, but multiple of the same card can appear within it. Each Arcana has a different effect that can help or hinder the player. The sun heals sanity to 100, Death hunts hermits, and Hermits cease activity or distract ghosts. Each Tarot Card has a unique effect on either the player or the ghost, and once used, it burns up and disappears leaving a colored flame.
Players can draw cards until the deck of 10 is complete, after which they will disappear and become unusable. Tarot cards are an essential mechanic in the horror game, but they can be confusing for new players who may not understand their effects. Each card has a unique effect on either the player or the ghost, and once used, the card will burn up and disappear. Players can try their best to pull a card with their second hand, but after pulling a few cards, the item will become unusable.

How rare are the Tarot Cards in Phasmophobia?
Phasmophobia is a game that features two Tarot Cards: The Hanged Man and The Hermit. The Hanged Man is the rarest Tarot Card and has a pull rate of 1, but it is not impossible to draw. Players must face the ghost, who will kill them instantly. The card has no flame color, but demonic hands snap the player’s neck. The game is set to release on PC in August 2023.
The Hermit, with a cyan burn color, is a card that forces a ghost back into its favorite room by teleporting it and trapping it inside for one minute. However, this card does not work during ghost events or ghost hunts, and it has a 10 pull rate. Both cards are essential for players to master the game and avoid the dangers of the Hanged Man Tarot Card.
What are the odds of getting a tarot card in Phasmophobia?
Tarot cards are cursed possessions with a 1 in 7 chance of spawning on a default difficulty level, except Insanity. They can be picked up with the default key E and drawn one at a time, only within the investigation area. Each deck contains 10 randomly generated cards, with 10 unique card types that have unique effects on the player or ghost. After being used, each card burns up and vanishes in a uniquely-colored flame. Some card types can be drawn multiple times or not at all in a single deck.
Can I use tarot cards on myself?
Tarot is a popular and ancient practice that has gained popularity in the mainstream. It involves using cards to interpret and predict the future, providing insight into current situations and allowing individuals to make predictions. Tarot spreads can be done on oneself, even for beginners. To begin, clean the energy of your space by burning herbs, ringing bells or chimes, taking a bath, or using crystals. A Selenite wand is a popular energy refresher that can be used to clear the space, cards, and your body.
After cleansing the energy, sit comfortably and visualize protective energy surrounding you. Shuffle the deck by taking deep breaths, thinking about your question or needing guidance, and keeping your mind and heart open to potential answers. When the cards feel mixed, deal them out in a “spread”, which influences the meaning of each card in combinations. It is important to know the spread you will be working with before beginning to shuffle, as the answers may require additional cards for further clarity or starting with a new question from a different perspective.
In summary, Tarot is a powerful tool for gaining insight into current situations, honoring intuition, and forecasting potential outcomes. It is a simple process that can be done on oneself, and it is essential to practice regularly to ensure a successful Tarot reading.
How do I use my tarot cards?
The reading of a tarot deck involves selecting a deck that resonates with you, familiarizing yourself with the meanings, setting your intention, shuffle the cards, and interpreting them in a spread. It’s essential to stay updated with the latest cultural news and trends to stay informed about art drops and dance crazes.
In addition to reading tarot cards, it’s important to consider the impact of marriage on emotional intimacy. As someone who’s been married for a while, it’s important to recognize that relationships require more than just love to maintain their glow. To overcome struggles and deepen emotional intimacy, it’s essential to read marriage counseling books that provide guidance and support.
How do Tarot Cards work?
Tarot readings are a personal and intimate experience that can be performed for oneself or others. The reader shuffles and fans out the deck face down, inviting the querent to pull a series of cards in a specific pattern, known as a spread. Each position in the pattern has a different significance, and the meaning of the card has to be read through that lens. The reader should take the lead in interpreting the cards, building a narrative from the symbols in front of them.
Tarot readings are intimate and personal, and it is important to remember that the reading is always about the querent, not the tarot reader. If you’re reading for someone else, you’re in a position of trust, and they might share things they’ve not told other people or that they’ve not even realized about themselves before.
To learn tarot, it is recommended to start by reading for yourself or someone you know well, and only graduate to readings for strangers once you’re steady on your cartomancy feet. Before giving readings, you will need to have learned the cards, and many find a guidebook to be the best place to start. A good guide will help you become familiar with the overall shape of the deck, the symbols associated with each card, and the commonly held meanings, as well as providing practical advice and tips on spreads, learning techniques, and reading etiquette.
How do you get tarot cards to work?
To effectively use tarot cards, ask open-ended questions and keep an open mind. The goal is to gain a new perspective and see yourself or a situation more clearly. To do this, relax and trust your own wisdom. Tarot is a tool to facilitate talking about things, so use language and knowledge that you already have to see it as a tool to facilitate talking about things. The four elements (earth, water, fire, and air) and numerology play a large role in the tarot, as most people already have some ideas about the meanings that can be drawn on. By doing so, the interpretations can be more personal and freer, as it allows for a more personal perspective.
In conclusion, tarot readings are a powerful tool for gaining insights and understanding one’s own perspective. By asking open-ended questions and trusting one’s own wisdom, readers can gain a new perspective and better understand themselves and situations.
What is the max money in Phasmophobia?
The game is set in the United States, using the US Dollar as the currency. The maximum amount of money a player can have is $2, 147, 483, 647 (2 31 – 1), which is the maximum value of an Int32 variable used to store player money in the save file. The theoretical maximum money earned from a single contract is $9, 610, excluding daily and weekly tasks. The absolute maximum money earned is $11, 510 when completing daily tasks and weekly tasks.
What gives the most money in Phasmophobia?
Ghost photos are the most valuable in Phasmophobia, offering $20 and 20 XP. However, only the first ghost photo counts, and subsequent photos are blank. If multiple players take one at the same time, they will all count and provide rewards, though this is likely a bug. This guide focuses on maximizing the value of photo rewards, which can be obtained by taking photos of various objects or appearances using a Photo Camera.
The rewards vary based on the number of photos taken and the type and quality of the photos. The photos are divided into three groups: Ghost, Bone, Burned Crucifix, Dirty Water, and Cursed possession.
Is it OK to pull tarot cards for yourself?
Tarot readings can be done by beginners, providing insight into current situations, honoring intuition, and forecasting potential outcomes. Sit comfortably and close your eyes, focusing on the protective energy surrounding you. Take deep breaths, think about your question or needing guidance, and keep your mind and heart open to the answers that may come through the cards. The pattern laid out is called a “spread”, and the meaning of each card in combinations builds up to the overall answer to your query.
Before beginning to shuffle, know which spread you will be working with. As answers come through, it’s important to draw additional cards for further clarity or start with a new question from a different perspective. Tarot readings can be a powerful tool for personal growth and understanding.

📹 ALL Cursed Possessions EXPLAINED – UPDATED GUIDE – Phasmophobia
Welcome to the COMPLETE GUIDE to the Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia! These are the most powerful items in …
UPDATES: As of the Ascension Update, wishing to see the ghost with the monkey paw will spawn the ghost at the ghosts current location and not directly where you are. Ideally you would want to use it when you know where the ghost room is and you just need the ghost pic or want to trigger a hunt! NEW Maple Lodge Locations: youtu.be/0C-4-JlCTVY
Something to add. I wish for knowledge will not only start a cursed hunt. It will start a cursed hunt very close to the player. I used it on camp woodwind one time and the ghost teleported on my face to start the hunt and insta killed me. Probably want to have a smudge and just instantly smudge and run to your hiding spot.
Some additional information (thanks for reminding me of these in the comments!): – Asking something on the ouija board gives an interaction, thus it can also give EMF 5! A good strategy to use this is asking a bunch of low sanity drain questions far from the ghost room to test for EMF 5 safely. – BE VERY CAREFUL while lighting the summoning circle, since it costs 16% sanity to light each candle this means that by the time you’re lighting the final candle the ghost might have already started a normal hunt. If you continue lighting the final candle it will teleport the ghost (that is already hunting) to the summoning circle which will probably get you killed. So make sure to listen or check if the ghost has already started a hunt before lighting the final candle. – For the Summoning Circle: if 4 candles are lit and you light the final candle BUT you don’t have enough sanity for it this will result in a very dangerous situation: the ghost will teleport to the summoning circle and instantly start the hunt there (skipping the ghost event). This means the ghost will not be visible because it’s in the grace period before the hunt. So if you don’t see the ghost at all after lighting the final candle RUN AWAY IMMEDIATELY as the hunt has already started. – For the Tarot Cards: CJ recently told us that the tower card also increases activity for a few seconds. But as I say in the article, the tower card is extremely bugged at the moment so it rarely does anything. But in theory it should be good.
I just realized, The Mimic is the only ghost that can become YOUNGER during a contract. If it mimics an older Thaye, its age should go back down to normal afterwards, and if it mimics a younger Thaye, then its age will be lower when mimicking it. So getting a YOUNGER age on the Ouija Board when asking for age the second time is hard evidence for The Mimic.
Two things you missed for the Summoning Circle: 1 – Lighting all candles during a hunt will cause the ghost to teleport to the Summoning Circle without getting stunned and continue hunting; 2 – If 4 candles are lit, you are guaranteed to be able to light the last candle, but lighting it without enough sanity will cause the ghost to hunt instantly without getting stunned (Granted, for that second one, people might have guessed since you said that’s what happens when you use that trick to light the last 2 candles without enough sanity.).
I love asking the flavor questions on the board. Particularly the questions: “Where did you die?” “Why are you here?” The question asking where they died gives a random room in the house. Makes for a funny version of Ghost CLUE! The ghost DROWNED in the BLEASEDALE ATTIC and has remained TRAPPED ever since!
I honestly think a better result for the “I wish for knowledge” would be that it GIVES you a correct evidence in the journal, but also hides another (like Nightmare/Insanity mode) And for “I wish for sanity”, I think a better way for it to work is that it increases everyone’s sanity by a certain amount, but as a result of the wish sanity medication doesn’t work anymore (in addition to the increased drain rate)
I think it’s kinda weird that Death initiates a hunt while The Tower triggers an interaction, I feel like that should be the other way around, or even have The Tower be the instant death card instead of The Hanged Man, considering that Death generally symbolizes change (which could be interpreted as a ghost changing an item or the environment by moving something, writing in the book, etc.), while The Tower usually means disaster (instantly dying would qualify). I guess either the devs don’t know much about Tarot, or they figured most players wouldn’t and might get confused as to why the Death card doesn’t do something to directly put your life in danger.
I learned a few things from the cursed objects, like some of the effects of the monkey paw I didn’t know. The amount of sanity per summoning circle candle, or the mirror thing where if you only hold it for a second or however long you can it has a huge reduction in sanity. Also really like some of the monkey paws abilities that I didn’t know about them. Thanks for all the information! It was a fun watch <3
A cool thing about Tarot Cards, if they want to add a new one, or to replace the Hermit or something, is put a ‘Wisdom’ card in. Picture could be a bunch of books or a college hat or something like that. What that one would do is cross off a ghost from your book, kind of like the monkey paw does. Even if you had 10 of those in the deck, it could only cross out 10 ghosts, out of 24. That’s not bad. Obviously it weakens if they add new ghosts, but it’s still useful. It could help figure out a hard combination when you’re missing evidences. Of course, the ‘cost’ or ‘risk’ is to still pull a hangman… but I feel having something like that could break the monotony of getting a deck like ‘tower, tower, hermit, fool, tower, wheel of fortune, tower, devil, tower, hermit’. They should do a suggestion contest for a new tarot card every halloween, or every anniversary of the creation of Phasmo (though we just passed it). Not only ideas, but art as well (gives CJ a break!).
I wish the Tarot cards were a full set of Tarot cards. here is an idea for the missing arcanas -Magician: Changes the ghost room. -The empress: 1%. Burns the current deck. Spawns a new deck. Adds one “Hanged man”, removes all “High priestess”. Removes all empress. -The emperor: Changes one of the remaining cards to high priestess or hanged man. -The hierophant: 2% Triggers a cursed hunt, destroys the decks, spawns another cursed item except tarot cards. -Lovers: The ghost will have infinite detection radius for your equipment and voice. -The chariot: 2% Gives you 25% movement speed for 3 minutes. -Strength: Rare. Turns on the breaker and makes the ghost unable to turn it off for 3 minutes. -Temperance: Turns off the breaker. If the breaker is is off, breaks the breaker. -The star: Rare. Decreases sanity by 20% Increases the sanity pill sanity restoration effect by 15%. -Judgement: 1% Teleports everyone to the truck and ends the game. Hope your current guess is correct 🙂 -The world: Changes the weather randomly.
“Responds to” info is one of the most useless thing in the game. It doesn’t matter. If you are in Singleplayer, it’s absolutely useless. In Multiplayer, you can just ask everyone to get out of the room, because the ghost will respond regardless, or ask the Spirit Box questions yourself, while the rest of the team is bringing in equipment. That’s how we do it anyway.
One the best things of the music box is that you can use it and drop and go outside, you have enought time to get out of the house(if you are in front of the door). I did it like 4 times while my friends were in the house. I got some iconic moments. Like, “Oh the ghost sing” and 2 seconds after he died, “WTF, the ghost just hunt with the crucifixe(tier 1 and 2), did you placed it correctly?”. For the investigation, the music box is kinda bad, but to troll, is one of the best itens.
You should also make an appendix to the monkey paw showing where to find the possible wishes. Yeah, the Text thingy will spoil it for a new player and give it easy access, but for players who wish to do it the “right way”, there are the clues on where to find the wishing papers and adding them to your collection (which is preserved in the journal, right?)
I recently was playing a game on the new sanity system patch. I stayed in the light basically the entire game and the ghost was being so stubborn. I assumed it was a demon because it was early hunting while I had been in the light for so long. I couldn’t find the ghost so I used the mirror and it immediately broke. Turns out it was a moroi and that whisper I got early in the game was a curse. Joy. I ended up dead in the prison hallway when it sped up extremely fast. Why are Morois so broken.
Bro, how the hell is this man finding out what ghost it is from basically one interaction every time… Damn, like, this may be the one game that I genuinely believe gets worse the more you play it, it seems to just take the mystery and horror elements out of it and you’re left with just ghost GeoGuessr, like, high tier phas is just, “oh, he breathed? Gotcha I know this one, BAM! got it.”
The ‘I wish for Knowledge” wish on the monkey paw is a lot more powerful in multiplayer as the other player(s) are still functional, and the negative effects can be partially mitigated with a combination of the tier 3 crucifix and the night vision headset. Despite this, it is still only recommended to use it if absolutely necessary.
With the ouija board sanity questions, the wiki does actually tell you what each sanity % range the answer means. Sanity questions also drain 5% per question asked. If you ask “What is my sanity?” you’ll get “Healthy” (over 80%), “Good (60-80%), “Average” (40-60%), “Bad” (20-40%), or “Awful” (less than 20%). This one doesn’t have a text option, but if you’re using voice, it’s probably the most useful variation. “How crazy am I?” and “How insane am I?” will give “Not very” (over 50%), “Very” (25-50%), or “Insane” (less than 25%). “Am I insane?” will give “No” (over 90%), “Maybe” (20-90%), or “Yes” (under 20%). I’ve been working on making a written guide for myself and my friends, so I’ve been referencing the wiki and your articles quite a lot over the past couple weeks. These guides definitely help make the process much easier! Edit: Apparently I didn’t watch quite far enough before commenting. Sorry about that!
I once was lighting the summoning circle and it started a hunt far away. I pulled out my camera and took a pic, but started hearing footsteps and I just turned and RAN. First time a ghost has started hunting while doing the summoning circle. Luckily I had a smudge so I escaped but holy shit it sped up my heartrate 2x.
Additional tips for the summoning circle: – I highly recommend to take the summoning circle photo before you use the summoning circle, and I would try to avoid using the salt directly in the center of the circle as well. It is very easy to unknowingly get a full body, dead center, ghost photo that you end up finding out was actually an off center, good distance away, summoning circle photo because the game prioritized the summoning circle above the ghost. Same thing with the disturbed salt. – What you can do is get right up in the ghosts face to try and avoid that possibility, by cutting anything on the ground out of the photo, but then you can run into the child model which can complicate things unless you crouch and look up. – And as for the salt, I like to set them all down with one of two goals in mind: place the pile near the circle in an area the ghost is likely go during its hunt (Bottom of the stairs in Tanglewood), or next to the circle in an area where the ghost will walk to you at the beginning of the hunt (Stand at the bottom of the stairs in Willow, and the ghost will walk though the salt to get to you at the beginning of the hunt (Just leaving it there would likely work, but you get the concept)).
So I know there was a bug at least in tanglewood, I haven’t tested anywhere else or with the latest hot patch, but if you use summoning circle and stop the hunt with tier 3 crucifix it would keep the front door locked for a certain period of time. I’m not sure exactly how long but I am guessing however long the hunt should be depending on difficulty
For the monkey’s paw, can you not make more than one knowledge wish to get rid of more evidences to narrow down your search? I mean if you’re already screwed with the first one in making more wishes for knowledge after that shouldn’t be that much of a downside unless it just prevents you from making it again
The Hermit is even more useless than what you made it sound, because if you are low enough sanity, the ghost can still break out of the room by hunting, and by the time it’s done hunting, the effect will probably be done. At least when it’s the Yurei’s weakness, the ghost is prevented from hunting due to the smudge stick.
hey, so quick question: if I use a cursed posession to trigger a cursed hunt and therefore all hunts from now on are also cursed, do regular crucifixes still work for these hunts after the cursed hunt? basically what I wanna know is, are these hunts really the same as the hunts triggered by the posessions or are they just longer hunts with shorter grace period?
I want a serious movie about a professional ghost hunter with the demeanor of Insym. Not like The Conjuring or whatever with a bunch of idiots shouting at the top of their lungs hoping for the best. Immediately takes me out of it. It’s like if a mechanic started punching your engine to fix it and kept telling you to have faith in him instead of confidently explaining the issue and the fix. We know DAMN WELL if ghosts existed and by extension so did ghost hunters, they would be as over ghosts as we are with our day jobs too. Tell me this isn’t exactly how it would play out: “Hmm…okay lights just went out….’What is your name, ghost?’ No answer, huh. Guess we’ve got a Jinn. turns on radio HEY KEVIN, GET ME THE INCENSE, WE GOT A-OH DAMMIT I GOT A PHONE CALL FROM CORPORATE REAL QUICK… -Hi Susan. Yes, we submitted our time sheets last Wednesday. Yup, no problem.- NAH KEV, THE SPICY ONE. THE ONE THAT SMELLS LIKE 7-11. LOOKS LIKE IT’S CHASING ME, BRING THE ANTI-PSYCHOTICS TOO PLEASE. THANKS BUD.”
If you’re trying to understand what he was trying with the crucifix, here is the crucifix details. Tier 1 crucifix: prevents one ghost hunt (can’t prevent a cursed hunt) tier 2 crucifix: of prevents two hunts ( can’t prevent a cursed hunt) tier 3 crucifix: can prevent two hunts ( can prevent ONE cursed Hunt). If you want more information I can tell you on other tools.
Do you know by any chance what Is going to happen with Phasmophobia after Unity the game engine are updating their policies about developers paying a fee after a number of downloads? Are they going to keep it the same and probably pay the fee and hurt their income? Are they going to remake maybe the game in another engine?
Wouldn’t it be really nice pulling the hermit card to find out which room is the ghost room? the door would be locked and you’d have a minute to find out which door is locked. Or am I missing something? Thanks for the article brother, and the comments on your articles are dope. I learn SO much from ya’ll
I used tarot cards for the first time today with my friend. I usually avoid them since I dont find them helpful. I decides to pull a card the second I found them after studying about them on a wiki page. I – frustratingly – get the RAREST card on my FIRST PULL E-V-E-R on tarot cards AND DIED INSTANTLY. I got “The hanged man”. My friend then continued playing and ruled out everything except myling and shade and it used the t1 crucifix next to him. naturally – it was shade.
“wish to leave would be too powerful”, “i hate getting a sun card”, “if you want to trigger a hunt…” 😀 … you see, and this is exactly where the game took the wrong turn, maneuvered into a dead-end became and still is bad… it still is all about the hunts, the baiting, the looping… why couldn’t the game be about the investigation. always just hunts, hunts, hunts,… what? give the player something else to avoid hunts? escape hunts? – like “i wish to leave” doing exactly what you would expect? “trap the ghost” as like for example spawning some chains that hold the ghost even during hunts and gives you a chance to turn the corner and break the line of sight? a sun card recharging your sanity with a higher probability or a revive with more than 2% chance??? pfff… why? why would the devs do something like this, when all the hardcore players loooooove the juicy hunts soooo much… because they can test things and determine the ghost by it’s footstep sound… pfff…. we can all just hope the last, long overdue, and final update (horror 2.0) finally changes this game from the ground up again and makes it actually spooky and investigative again vs. the current state of being a frustrating ghost is hunting simulator.
with the monkey paw, lets say they would fix it so you couldnt just run around freely after you made the “i wish to trap him” wish (maybe with an invisible barrier or something) and nerf it by not letting you see the lock symbol on the door afterwards, couldnt you just open all doores before hand, surive the hunt and then look wich door is closed?
how…..HOW am i able to memorize all these informations while playing? where a fckn pro in the first months..maybe the first year since phasmo released.. but then i played less and less.. and now i´m overwhelmed by all these updates and feel like a little scared noob stunned by the thought: “oh i should play some rounds again” ah the good times hiding behind a door and knowing “which door” was all u need to survive^^ so despite this: wonderful to see how the developers put so much effort evolving this super nice game by keeping it´s spirit. it has changed so much but it stayed the same at all. and also follow your vids about phasmo since the beginning (that´s why i where that hard pro back then^^) and i want to say thank you once again. you help me to dare myself jump into the game again
Not sure if this is a bug or not but I played with my buddies Jake and Matt. They found a mirror while I went to basement to turn on the fuse box. I entered a different room in the basement with my thermometer and while looking for freezing temps Matt used the mirror and knew I was in the basement. He could not see which room I was in, however it was the same room I was looking for temps. In just a few seconds of him asking over the radio what room I was in, I instantly got hunted and died. This all happened within a few minutes and I was well above 80%. Anyone have any idea if the mirror is related to my death or if this is just a weird coincidence?
My friend and I have encountered this issue with the circle where one of us will light 3 or 4 of the candles, then the other would light the last one. But when that last candle is lit, the ghost instantly hunts and kills them even though the person is at or near full sanity. It doesn’t always happen, but it has become rather common in our playthroughs when we use the circle. The last ghost to do this to us was a Spirit, if that helps any. Anyone have any ideas? Are we doing something wrong?
How will the hanged man card work if you use the cursed item strategy of moving near the entrance to catch the range of being able to use the cursed possession, but to immediately run out if you see the animation to begin (my friend frequently uses it to troll with eg. voodoo doll). Will it kill you outside of the house or will it just kill a random person inside?
