How To Activate The Illuminated Apple Magic Keyboard?

If your Mac laptop has a backlit keyboard, you can manually adjust the level of backlighting or turn it off, or set options to do so automatically. To turn off the keyboard backlighting, go to “Settings” then to “General” and to “Keyboard”. Choose “Hardware Keyboard” and slide the on/off switch on the back edge of the keyboard to turn it on (so green is visible) or off. If your keyboard isn’t recognized by your iMac, connect it to your iMac with the included USB-C to Lightning Cable.

To adjust the keyboard brightness and backlight on a Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro, go to Settings > General > Keyboards > Hardware Keyboard > adjust the keyboard backlighting slider to a brighter position. Reboot the iPad Pro / Air with Magic Keyboard and turn the iPad Air or iPad Pro off.

If you’re using a Magic Keyboard with your MacBook Air, but you’re not seeing any options to adjust backlighting, you can help. The brightness of the Magic Keyboard automatically adjusts based on the light conditions around you. To manually adjust the brightness, enable ‘Adjust keyboard brightness in low light.’ Use the slider to choose the proper level of brightness or, depending on your Mac model, press F6, fn-F6, or the relevant button on the Touch Bar repeatedly until the desired level is reached.

To adjust the keyboard brightness in settings, open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of your screen and tap the Keyboard Brightness button. If your Apple Magic Keyboard doesn’t have backlight functionality, you can try waking your iPad by pressing any key on the Magic Keyboard, unlocking your iPad with Face ID or Touch, or adjusting the keyboard backlight option in the settings.
