In Hogwarts Legacy, players can dodge by pressing the Circle, B, or A button on their PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo controllers. They should look for a red indication when an enemy is about to attack, as they can reduce damage from reds but not the effect from them with protego. Yellow incoming spells and anything else can be blocked by using Protego, while red rings indicate unblockable attacks that must be dodged.
Hogwarts Legacy uses many open world combat staples, including freeze, stun, curse, enchant, and disarm spells that can catch players off-guard. Players can dodge or block most of these spells or attacks if they get the timings right. To switch spells in Hogwarts Legacy, press “T” on PC or “Right” on the D-Pad on Consoles.
To change the direction of their dodge roll, players can move the analog stick. In harder encounters with fast counterable enemies mixed with uncounterable attacks, it’s easier to focus on spamming dodge. Holding the block button down and countering with stupefy breaks any colored shield and stuns.
To break through shields, players must cast any Control type spell, identifiable by the yellow background behind the spell symbol. When a shield (Red, Yellow, or Purple) appears over an enemy, players must cast a corresponding spell of the same color to “break” the shield. When the halo above your head turns red, players must dodge the attack instead by pressing O or B. Shields can also be used in Hogwarts Legacy.
