In Photoshop, the selection tools include Marquee, Lasso, and Magic Wand. The Select Object, Select Subject, or Quick Selection tools are the simplest to use. The Selection tool allows you to create a border around a portion of your image that you don’t want to change. To invert your selection, right-click your selection and choose the Select Inverse option.
The Magic Wand, Marquee Tool, or Lasso Tool are the selection tools that give more control when you want to fine-tune a selection area. To switch back to the Magic Wand tool, right-click on the Quick Selection tool or Object Selection tool to produce a flyout and then select the Magic Wand tool.
A popular technique with the Magic Wand is to select the area you don’t want first and then invert the selection. Popular choices include the Lasso Tool for freehand selections and the Magic Wand Tool for selecting areas based on color similarity. Carefully draw your selection around the desired area.
Using the Lasso, Pen, Magic Wand, and Object Selection tools, it’s possible to select virtually any part of your image, no matter the shape or size. To invert a selection, right-click your selection and choose the Select Inverse option. Alternatively, choose Select › Inverse from the menu bar at the top of the window. To invert the active selection, navigate to the Menu Bar and choose Select > Inverse.
