How To Find The Astrology Of The House Lords?

Astrology focuses on the 12 houses, each representing a life area and ruled by a zodiac sign. To find the house rulers, note the sign on the cusp of each house in your chart. For example, if Gemini rules your third house, its ruler is Mercury. The planet ruling the sign on a house cusp is the house ruler.

The 12 houses provide a holistic view of life, as they provide a connection to the planets that rule the house’s sign. A house calculator takes birth details, such as date, time, and place of birth, and calculates the position of each house in your birth chart using a particular house system.

Lordship in astrology, also known as ownership or rulership, refers to the lord of the sign falling in the house. The first step in determining the placement of planets in a birth chart is to identify the ascendant or rising sign.

Vedic Astrology offers insight into the hidden secrets of your life through the 12 Astrology Houses and their ruling lords. Every house has a special zodiac sign ruling it, and every sign is ruled by a planet. This planet is also the lord of the house in which that sign is located.

In Vedic astrology, finding the lord of the 7th house in your natal chart involves determining which planet rules the sign located in the 7th house. Understanding the significance of each house and its ruling lords is crucial for understanding your unique astrological footprint and guiding your life.

Which planet is the lord of which house?

In astrology, a planet’s domicile is the zodiacal sign over which it has rulership. This concept is distinct from the houses of the horoscope, and a planetary ruler is assigned to each sign, over which the planet has a more powerful influence when positioned there. The ruling planet associated with a sign is also used as an implied focus of interpretation for the signs on house cusps in a chart. A planet is considered in domal dignity when positioned in the sign it rules, which is the strongest of the five essential dignities of a planet.

The assignments of ruling planets were based on the Northern Hemisphere seasons, with the sun and moon being awarded to Leo and Cancer, respectively, due to the warmest and longest days. Saturn, the most distant of the planets, was given the rulership of Aquarius and Capricorn, the signs opposite Leo and Cancer.

How do I figure out my 7th house?

The 7th House in an astrology chart is located directly across from the 1st House, symbolizing close friends, partnerships, and lovers. It is a crucial aspect of a person’s life, as it influences their relationships with others. The birth chart is divided into 12 houses, each ruling over a different area of life. The 7th House is important as it marks the point where the birth chart becomes less about the inner world and more about how one navigates the world around them. To understand the 7th House, one should look at the 1st House and consider the energy it adds, similar to how a home is decorated based on personal ideas and preferences.

If someone has learned to be orderly and has developed rules for guests, their 7th House is likely in Pisces, as Pisces Risings navigate the world with a sense of expansive tolerance, and their friends help them identify which boundaries they need to establish.

To read your birth chart, start at the left and go counterclockwise from the left. Your birth chart is a circle divided into 12 segments, like hours on a clock. Find the left-most segment, where 9:00 would be, and read your houses. This is your first house. The zodiac sign on the outer edge of each segment determines your characteristics within each house. Your birth chart is a map of the sky at the time of your birth, including the sun, moon, planets, and constellations. To access a free birth chart, enter the day, time, and place of birth. • So basically each house is govern by certain zodiac sign. And Each Zodiac sign is ruled by a specific planet (which we call it Lord). So eg when 2nd house has sign Leo and planet Sun is in the 6th house, we can say that ——– “the Lord of the 2nd House is sitting in 6th house”. Please reply kapiel. Please correct me if am wrong. Many thanks.

  • Another tip guys, do use Bhav Chalit chart with Rasi chart for interpretations. The Bhav Chalit chart was not used by many astrologers in the recent past and even now because of lack of birth time accuracy. Rasi Chart -> Use for house lords, conjunctions and aspects Bhav-Chalit –> Use for house placement. For example, for Pisces Ascendant, Mars will always rule the 2nd and 9th house. So now go and see the placement of Mars in Bhav-Chalit chart. Lets say, for the earlier example, the Bhav-Chalit shows Aries ascendant instead of Pisces and Mars is in Gemini. This means Mars will behave as if it is in 3rd house and NOT 4th house. Hope this helps! Cheers!

  • He talked fast first and took too long to get to the topic. Then he wants to talk too slow on the topic. And his presentation he didn’t take into account for the topic. And instead of doing simple example first like if your 10th house lord is in 1st house meaning if you have aries in 10th house then your 10th house lord is (planet) he did a complex example using 4 different signs so…confusing!!!!

  • I think you should also articles regarding just the Houses and Signs and what they represent, for a better understanding for those who are new to vedic astrology like 2nd house represent family, status, assets, jewels..etc and like gemini which is air sign and represents communication, deals, marketing, writing, mating..etc

  • So using this reference table I found: What I do is check which sign the Ascendant is (first lord is Ascendant), then convert that to whichever planet.. so if it’s say Cancer Ascendant, I say ok that’s Moon… then I check what house is the moon in. If moon is in 7th house then I can say 1st lord in 7th house Moon. Is that right? Where I get confused is after Saturn I don’t know what planet to do for the next lord.. so I only figure out 8 I think on my own. Aries – Mars Taurus – Venus Gemini – Mercury Cancer – Moon Virgo – Mercury Libra – Venus Scorpio – Mars Sagittarius – Jupiter Capricorn – Saturn Aquarius – Saturn Pisces – Jupiter

  • I find this concept so difficult to understand….I have watched every article I can find on it and have numerous Vedic astrology books. I’m not an idiot but from everything I have seen I am not finding anything that explains this simply. Perhaps I have some outrageous block with this particular topic. Can anyone please help?

  • hi kapiel awesome article as always . question . the affects of the lord of the houses will give on their dasha or antradasha period hope i got that right . now do we follow the same method when it comes to transit lets say in birth chart third house capricon lord is saturn sitting in the 5th house . now lets say due transit saturn is in libra now in the 12th house at current time . and running through saturn dasha? which one is more powerfull or both are equal ?

  • I think the doubt is this, 1) Do the lords change for each person? 2) For instance I had assumed that the 6th Lord was always Mercury because Virgo rules this house and Virgo is ruled by Mercury? 3) My 1st house is empty and ascendant is supposed to be in the 2nd house, how does that work? But @Tania Mendonca seems to make it easy, @KRSChannel is she right?

  • saturn and mercury conjunct basically shows that mercury do not like saturn becuz saturn is not fun, saturn gives luv to people who endure pain and suffering and saturn tough and rigid. but saturn likes mercury becuz mercury likes fun things and mercury is a prince..who wants people to enjoy, fun, and take life lightly not seriosly and saturn is opposite.

  • Great article. I became fan of your article. I have question. In your website, it is written that if Saturn is sitting in the sign of Aries or Cancer in the 3rd house in a certain degree, it will make life of the native quite hard in terms of education, relationship with siblings, communication, children, fortune, and spirituality. Does this mean up to age of 35 years old or whole life? Cuz my saturn is Cancer in 3rd house. This fact frustrates me.

  • Hey kapiel i have one doubt please clear my query: As explained by you the effects of a certain house lord placed in a certain house but the results/effects are same for all the planets also. For eg: What if Venus lord of 3 rd house placed in 12th house & if saturn is the lord of 3rd house placed in 12th house produce same results irrespective in the difference of both planets characteristics.

  • I have never heard this explained. My son has his own lord in his own house… for instance: Aries in first house… Taurus in his second house…. Gemini in the third house etc… you told us somewhere that the lord of that house protects his own house… is there anything else you can add?? Many thanks!!!!!

  • I get the general gist of this. The only thing I don’t get is how it impacts intercepted houses. I’m a Capricorn Rising. My first house is intercepted by Aquarius and it contains Saturn (also in Aquarius). What would this present as where my Saturn is concerned? It doesn’t have a house to lord over? Would Uranus (Capricorn ruler) be the lord over both the doubled houses? Can someone please help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks

  • I’m confused. 🙁 So, if my 1st house has my ascendant and it is Capricorn and Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, does that mean that my 1st lord is Saturn and my 1st lord is in the 10th house, since that is where Saturn ACTUALLY belongs (Saturn’s home house)? In my 10th house, I have Rahu. I don’t get it. 🙁

  • Where is your other article of you explaining how to find your Lords in Houses? I remember perusal a article showing a chart and counting from the ascendant but I can’t find the article. I understood lords back then but forgotten it now. I hope someone knows what I’m talking about or KRS will link me the article if he understands too.

  • So now I am confused. I have watched two articles that are saying completely different things. I understand lords are planets, but I am having trouble because I do not know which way is the right way to look at lords. I have written notes down about both methods and I don’t know which one is right. I have a Capricorn ascendant, and Saturn is in my 3rd house. Aries is the first house ruler and Mars is the lord of Aries. And mars is in my 8th house. So is the 1st lord in my 3rd or 8th house?

  • How does mercury in 10th house for Aries ascendant help to become a doctor? I have same placement and ketu is in ascendant while mars(retrograte) in 5th house of Scorpio. Sun also in 10th house( Degrees is less than 1 for sun while mercury 17 and Mars 9 ketu 16) : how will my career in doctor be: also mercury and Mars in 8th house in navansha in sign of Gemini (ascendant Scorpio in navansha) does this indicate surgeon

  • Wow so helpful and very well explained IF one can follow Your emphasized suggestion to start with the basic birth chart explanation and so forth. I will be buyn ur books as well as subscribing to your website. My personal opinion on Astrology is that IF used righteous meaning to serve us as a life guide., can pave an easier life journey by alerting one of opposing universe energies unknown to the ordinary human. Thank you

  • Hi Kapiel, Does the concept of quadrants apply to D9 as well. So if in D1 the cluster of maximum number of planets is in one quadrant. In D9 the cluster changes to a different quadrant, does it mean that after marriage/35 years of age, the focus of the person will change accordingly ( based on D9 quadrant)

  • Mr. Krs i was thinking about the kundli of Walter White, character on the AMC series Breaking bad, and I was wondering what his kundli would be like, because he couldn’t get the live with his family, his son hated him, he couldn’t see his daughter grow up, and he had to kill many people before he finally died but along the way he made a lot of money, could you please make a chart on him, even though he is a character in a tv show it is still interesting to learn what his chart would have to be.

  • First of all thank you very much for sending me the detailed report. However I was totally confused when I saw my D2 hora chart. Why because, all damn planets are in my Ascendant Cancer, except the Moon which is next to my ascendant in Leo. Is it normal ??? How do I read when all houses lords are in Ascendant and Ascendant lord in 2nd house ??? Pleaseeeeeeeee Reply!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve asked this question quite a few times now. If the 3rd lord in main horoscope is in 8t house but in the navamsha chart the 3rd lord (a different planet) is in 2nd house and in some other chart, that chart’s 3rd lord is in 1st house, can the analysis given by you be applied to all the charts. If yes, then which chart is most important?
