How To Interpret A Vedic Astrology Horoscope?

In Vedic astrology, the birth chart or kundli is a crucial tool for understanding one’s life and destiny. It involves identifying the rising sign, houses, planets, and their positions in the kundli. The North Indian Style diagram is used to identify the rising sign. The rashi, or lagna, forms the most important base horoscope for analysis.

Vedic astrology uses the position and movement of celestial bodies to gain insights into our lives and destinies. The South Indian style of astrology can reveal new aspects of one’s life and personality. Reading a birth chart requires a deep understanding of various elements, including Rashis and Nakshatras, planetary periods or Dasha, Vedic houses, the Ascendant or Lagna, and Yogas.

A Vedic birth chart is a rectangle divided into 12 houses, with boundary lines consisting of an “X” drawn from each corner. It depicts the sky at the time of a person’s birth and contains details about the constellations. How to predict Vedic astrology?

A friend of a Vedic Astrologer shared an observation that he had been struggling with predicting events in his life due to relying too much on the effects of transiting planets. This lecture discusses the process of quick predicing with Vedic astrology, based on the teachings of K. N. Rao. The process involves three stages: 1) Varga aspects repeated in Dasa sequence; 2) Simultaneous aspects of transiting Rahu and Saturn on the house or house-ruler of the subject in question; and 3) Transits of benefics or malefics on the dasa and sub-dasa planets or on the house ruling the subject of the question.

The first step is to examine the dasa and sub-dasa rulers. If you have an accurate birth time, the dasa system is the first place to go for long and short-term predictions. These time periods are based on the specific position of your moon at birth, and each planet governs a period of time ranging from six to twenty years.

To start making predictions, look for planets that aspect each other according to Parasara rules of aspects. For example, if Mars and Jupiter are in the same house, look for a Dasa period of Mars/Jupiter or Jupiter/Mars. Look in the Varga or Divisional charts for changes in marital status, career status, or children’s status.

Finally, check the temporal benefic/malefic nature of the planets in the specific birth chart to fine-tune the prediction. This rule has been used in classes to help students identify significant events in each other’s lives.

Is Vedic astrology accurate?

In this article, Won, an astrologer, addresses the ongoing debate surrounding the precision of Vedic astrology in comparison to Western astrology. She asserts that Vedic astrology’s time calculations are more precise than those of Western astrology, and that the use of divisional charts and timing analysis is more detailed and accurate. Additionally, Won underscores the precision of the dasha timing system as a means of discerning personal timing and predictions.

How do you read Vedic astrology degrees?

Signs can be divided into three decans, which are 10 degrees wide sections. Some chart generators may show degrees in multiples of 10 or 5, requiring an estimate of specific numbers. Degrees grow from 0 to 29 counterclockwise, and it’s important to make the best estimate. Some charts may also indicate minutes along with degrees, as there are 60 minutes in 1 degree. A Whole-Sign house system corresponds to a zodiac sign, with each house 30 degrees wide. Other systems may show houses overlapping with signs at different widths.

How true is Vedic astrology?

Astrology has been criticized by the scientific community for lacking explanatory power for describing the universe. Scientific testing has been conducted, but no evidence has been found to support the premises or purported effects outlined in astrological traditions. Despite its status as a pseudoscience, astrology retains a position among the sciences in modern India. In 2001, India’s University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resource Development introduced “Jyotir Vigyan” or “Vedic astrology” as a discipline of study in Indian universities, stating that it allows for accurate predictions on time scale. This decision was backed by a 2001 judgement of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Despite widespread protests from the scientific community and Indian scientists working abroad, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition in 2004 that astrology was not a promotion of religion. In 2011, the Bombay High Court referred to the 2004 ruling when it dismissed a case challenging astrology’s status as a science. As of 2014, astrology continues to be taught at various universities in India, and there is a movement to establish a national Vedic University to teach astrology alongside the study of tantra, mantra, and yoga.

Can you trust Vedic astrology?

Astrology is considered pseudoscience due to its lack of scientific validity and effectiveness in controlled studies. There is no proposed mechanism for how stars and planets affect people and events on Earth, which contradicts well-understood aspects of biology and physics. Modern scientific inquiry focuses on the correlation between astrological traditions and seasonal birth in humans. Most professional astrologers rely on astrology-based personality tests and make predictions about the remunerator’s future.

Those who continue to believe in astrology are characterized as doing so despite the lack of verified scientific basis and strong evidence to the contrary. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson emphasized the importance of understanding how nature shapes the world around us, as without this knowledge, individuals can easily become victims of those seeking to take advantage of them.

Which is the most important chart in Vedic astrology?

Divisional charts, also referred to as Vargas charts, are instrumental in the practice of Vedic astrology. These charts are derived from the primary birth Lagna chart, also known as the D-1 chart, which divides each zodiac sign into discrete segments.

How to read a horoscope?

Astrology charts provide insight into a person’s personality and life path by analyzing the planets’ appearance in the house and under which sign. Planets represent what one does and what drives them, while signs represent how they accomplish tasks. Houses indicate areas of growth or change. For example, a Uranus in Aries in the fourth house represents learning and growth, while Aries is associated with ambition, passion, and strong emotions. The fourth house is associated with home, family, and property, suggesting a passion for personal relationships and emotional investment in family.

  • I am huge huge fan of your Kapiel. And I follow only one astrology website, KRS. I have few questions: Does degree of Sun matters in Lagna chart? Some planets are moved in Chalit chart as respect to the birth chart because of degrees. So should I focus on chalit chart than birth chart? How planets jumps too many houses in Navamsa chart in respect to the lagna or birth chart? Please reply or make a article if possible. Thanks man!

  • Hello KRS! I typed in my birth datas correctly in a vedic astrology calculator but my Sun sign, ascendant and everything else, basically my whole chart was completely different than the Western One. I must say that i feel like the western chart describing suits me better. Did i type something wrong or is it normal that the vedic chart is different than the western?

  • My long form birth certificate shows birth time and reads as my mother recalled. It was close to midnight, changed the day! She was into astrology and insisted the nurse correct it. It matters more because I read as 26 minutes before Leo! But both show me as Cancer. I’ve seen both charts, but missed the wonderful examples to rectify it as you are giving us! Thank you very much. 🕊❤️

  • Im 22 degrees Aries ascendant in my vedic chart. Im sorry i misprinted my comment below. That was incorrect. I went to a different website and something was wrong in the info. Ty Kapiel. I am subbie and i enjoy your articles. I am a fatherless daughter and my mother is passed on now. I am single, unattached woman in S.E. MN. My Mars is Gemini 3H and my Moon is in Leo. Im unemployed now since 2020.

  • Thanks for your immediate response, actually I was born in New Delhi, so I doubt the info can be wrong because the place wasn’t accurate. My DOB is 2/24/78, 1:46 am New Delhi.. I visited that astrologer as 2 of my pals have really benefited from him. I didn’t visit him personally as he doesn’t reside in my city, my friend gave my birth details to him, which I confirmed while talking to the jyotishi on phone. He didn’t predict much just gave me remedies.

  • KRS for the first time listening to this article,, thanks for sharing this Vedic ancient science in such, simple effective clear manner, meaning you are a gifted grate teacher, thanks to your free articles we can adequately acquired a basic understanding about our own soul journey.Your love for astrology is making a huge difference in the evolution of intelligence activitation of our sobering soul liberation . • Well in that case it is not hard for me to realize that I resonate with Scorpio being my ascendant way more than Libra. I just watched your Scorpio rising article and every house you described matches me to the t. I feel more like myself when I look at my chart with the Scorpio Lagna. THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this article!!!!

  • I can’t find a free vedic website that asks for the city and the state? One website says to put the city but it only asks for the state, and because everyone planet that I’m used to seeing is completely different, I cannot tell if it is accurate or not. I just want a website that makes it simple for me!

  • I like your articles a lot and I intend to learn from you via your online course, just I thought I will discover first your free articles, but I ordered a book from you as a “first step” into it. But now I am a little bit confused, because via online chart calculator I set up my chart, my husbands chart as well and for example his ascendant does not suit his real self, also his moon sing and my moon sign according your articles does not suit eather. I watched also your article which deals with moon according my west (European) chart, but this does not suit eather. So I am totally confused. The reason I want to learn vedic astrology is to know more about myself. I visited some astrologers in my home land, but they could not say anything usefull to develop myself further. At that point I discovered your website and I find your articles fantastic, your language, your stile, your views of life etc…. But as I told before I am very confused now.

  • i just don’t get it how come in every western natal chart calculator i’m a sag ascendant and scorpio moon and in vedic astrology i’m libra moon and scorpio asc? and venus is also in aquarius instead of pisces do they have to match?i mean vedic chart and western astrology chart tnx btw awsome website u got there 🙂

  • dear krs, a very nice article!:)I have a doubt regarding step two to, where the lagnadhipati is placed and where the moon is placed ! what if its a kark(cancer) ascendant chart? the lagnadhipati and the moon place ment will be the same so how to do the second step for a cancer ascendant chart? please help! your help will be highly appreciated:) 😀

  • I have watched some of your tube articles and in order to understand individual charts would need to obtain them using the sideral system. How much do you charge for the 16 of them? I should mention that I have studied the western system for more than 3 decades and am familiar with basic info but would like to know more …please respond. Gretchen.

  • Allright, I’m kind of new to the vedic version of astrology. I do use sidereal as I believe it is the true zodiac, but I follow the circular chart. (The one with all the “confusing lines”) And there’s quite a few fundamental differences in the circular chart versus the traditional vedic. For example: In a circular chart my sun is on the cusp of the 2nd and 3rd house with jupiter well into my 3rd house both in leo, but vedic style places them both in the 2nd house (the house leo rules) plz rplybk

  • Hi, I was wondering if you can comment which of the relation between Saturn and Jupiter in the following two cases will give better result to the native depending upon their house and state (exaltation, debilitation based on rashi). Saturn in Libra and Jupiter in Gemini ( 3 houses apart) VS. Saturn in Libra and Jupiter in Cancer (2 houses apart) in a horoscope. Please comment on the beneficial and malefic results. Keep all other planets out of discussion for this case. Thanks.

  • Dear Kapiel, I have been following your website for about a mo. now trying to grasp the whole thing. My Asc sign is Cancer 29.05. You said in this article to look @ my time of birth. My birth cert says 6:37pm in Cleve Oh on 12/30/72. I don’t understand. 🙁 I’m trying. My sun is in Cap~ Moon in Scorpio. Makes total sense. All my asc planets are 12.43 and above. 29.05 in the 7th too. Cap is in that sign. Any articles you suggest I watch? Thank you so much for taking the time to read this Kristen

  • And yes one more thing just in case, My ascendant is Scorpio at Jyestha Nakshatra. The astrologer said its Sagittarius, the funny thing is he did the same mistake at another time stating wrongly that I am Gemini rising and his predictions were all wrong, it seems the 1st time he wrote PM as time rather Than AM, I dont know what wrong he did the2nd time my friend went to him . By the way he gives remedies through precious gem stones and has a big ego ie hates computers and Yep Thanks again !

  • I didn’t understand the degree of Lagna as you said 1 degree or 29 degree what do you mean by that? Rest all I follow.. Do you mean to say if lagna degree is 1 or 29 then does that mean the native’s lagna will change for example a taurus ascendant can be aries or gemini ascendant..??? Is that what you want to say?

  • Hey, it seems so complicated! And in my case (that I am not sure which is the exact time of my birth and my ascendant seem to be at the end of Aquarius things are becoming more complicated…Also Jupiter seem to be strong to my chart so that makes things even more difficult. I wonder which planet would be stronger? Saturn (as Lord of the Asc) or Jupiter (which is in own sign – ninth hse and exalted in Navamsa)? Also is there a possibility of successful combination of power of these two planets?

  • Dear Kapiel, I have a major problem in my chart please guide me accordingly. According to the computer I have a certain ascendant, but when I visited a vedic astrologer he used one of his almanacs manually found out that my ascendant is something else. Is it possible that the computer will be wrong, I checked 3 horoscope programs, like Kundli, Parasharas light and Jaganatha hora, they had all the same ascendant, but the astrologer is insisting that its not the case. Am confused, HELP !

  • Hello Kapiel, what about AK Sa, AmK Mo and Ra all within a few degrees in house 9 (in Nakshatra Revati) for Cancer lagna? Me in Gemini in house 12. Sun in house 11 aspected by (vargotamma and malefic, but AK) Sa. In D9 Sa and Su are in house 9 and Ra and Mo are in house 8, again lagna is Cancer. Mo seems to be heavily afflicted. Is there a Shakti Yoga, because Ra and Mo are together in D1 in house 9 (conjunct AK Sa) and also together in D9 in house 8? What does this all mean? Kind regards Bulent
