Another trick is the rolling cigarette trick, which requires a cigarette, a table, and some magic. The trick involves skillfully blowing on the cigarette, showing the audience a card from Tarbell 24: Cigarette Magic. This trick is perfect for fun and doesn’t require lighting up.

Very nice, but it omits two of my favorites. One is with ash. Before the trick, you get some ash on your finger. You ask the mark to extend her hands outward. If you can’t figure out why I say her, I can’t help. You take her hands and spread them outward, smearing ash on one of her palms. You tell her to close her hands into fists. You then take the other fist, ostentatiously dip your finger in ashes, and rub them on the back of her hand. You ask her to open that fist, and when there is no ash on that palm, you say, “Maybe it’s on the other hand.” Works every time. The other requires preparation. Take the cap of a ball-point (Biro to you lot) and put it on the end of a piece of elastic on the inside of your sleeve, stretched and held with a pin. Vanish a cigarette by putting it into the cap and releasing it so it snaps back.
0:56 Vanish cigarette, and reappear. 2:16 Cigarette pass through. 3:42 Infinite Cigarettes. 4:50 Infinite Ciggeretes, in a hat 5:45 Ciggerete broken in half 6:37 Ciggerete vanish, and reappear 7:11 Ciggerete through coin, and back out 8:25 Ciggerete visually rises, with credit card. Thats all!! Hope that help And great article oscar
About 40 years ago I was sitting at a bar in Medford Oregon…The bartender was a pretty fair magician…When he did the cig through the quarter trick, I told him I would give him $100 if he’d show me how he did it …well, he did and gave me the machined quarter…Needles to say, in many a dimly lit bar I won many a drink….I finally passed it on. (At no charge)…
I love magic i would just like you guys to know i can walk through solid walls no magic no trickery i just close my eyes and imagine i am on the other side and when i open my eyes i am i dont know how this happens it has been going on for 25 years ive never shown anyone am scared of how they will react.
This man went to the crossroads and sold his soul to acquire the help of a familiar spirit! 🤣 🚬 . My mom tried a cigarette trick that didn’t work out to good when I was a kid. She took a fake plastic thumb from my magic kit I got as a gift, she placed the fake thumb over her real thumb, she then proceeded to show everyone how she could put out the cigarette on her thumb without any pain…needless to say the cigarette burned through the fake thumb and melted the plastic onto her skin. Everyone thought she was nuts. She explained after running her thumb under water that she thought the plastic was heat proof. LOL 😆 🤣 😂 POOR MOM
Great, easy to learn, practical, but quite amazing tricks! By the way, mind if i ask, are you a smoker? Because i noticed all of your tricks are focused on cigarettes. Being a smoker myself ( Winston reds) i well have lots of cigarettes to practice on. Very glad to have learned new stuff i may be able to use on my next family reunion! Thank you very much for sharing. Please take care.
Very cool stuff! Need to work on your slight of hand movements a bit more. You can pick the tricks out by your finger movements and how hard you press and move your thumb on the credit card trick as well as your thumb movement on the cigarette filter trick! I guess it wouldn’t be so obvious depending on how far you are away from the person/people you show it to!
The hat with the tape trick is pretty cool to do at night near campfires with your buddies (it worked well for me). I suggest you create an excuse to go to the bathroom, bring the hat and more cigarettes. Put the extra cigarettes in the hat and all the prep for it before going out, then go back to your friends and hide it in your sleeve. Keep the conversation going until a brief silence happens. Then use this to spark up the conversation on that new magic trick you just learned, do it and then at the end, dump out the cigarettes already in the hat. And watch their faces go 😲
A lot of close hand tricks rely on the observer’s point of view which you can’t always control. Just a slight change in the viewer’s angle will give away the trick. Also, cigarettes are brittle and easily damaged. It’s also not always easy to find a cigarette. Tricks like these evolved from bar room magic at a time when more people smoked and smoking was permitted everywhere. I’d use something like a golf scoring pencil or a straw cut to size.
You forgot the best one ! Works best on a party. Somewhere with darker setting / less light : 1. When no one is perusal, take a cig. Find the part of the white paper where it overlaps it self (place of 2 layers) 2. Lick that part all the way the length of the cig. Keep that side up. 3. Take a lighter (works only with the cheap old-fashioned plastic ones) 4. Now hold that lighter upside down above the wet strip and rotate the wheel the other way than normal . 5. It will scrape particles off of the firestone, who’ll attach to the strip. They will barely be visible, but will work. 6. Keep doing this a few times along the length of the wet strip for maximizing effect. 7. Let the strip dry (won’t take long) then gently store it back into your smokes pack, sticking a bit out of the top of the rest. 8. Walk up to the most beautiful girl at the party (which you are certain of that she smokes). 9. Introduce yourself and offer her “a cigarette” 😉 10. Enjoy the surprised startled look on her face, as the room lights up with bright festive sparkles, every time she takes a drag.
Owen I just want to say you’ve had such a positive impact on my life, ever since I’ve seen this article you’ve encouraged me to take up smoking so I can do these cool tricks and I want to give a heartfelt thank you. I have now learned how to make 24 cigarettes disappear in the space of a single day and my friends haven’t been more impressed.

My friend used to make money fly across the room and dance in the air in packed bars, he would have everyone in awe. He was a high level magician, he would set up things while talking and you would never know that he had put tack specks everywhere and ran invisible line to all these places and as the money would float, it was tacked to his shoe or leg and nobody would catch him moving, and he could pull it and release from one tack point to another causing it to literally float across a room with ppl on both sides freaking out. It was something that amazed me to watch ppl trying to figure it out, plus all the hot girls that it attracted was insane
It’s like these great guitarists you hear about. From the first time they picked up a guitar, they always had it with them. Within arms reach. For years. Obsessed with playing. Same thing with David Blaine. Always had a deck of cards with him, constantly working it. If you can’t put it down, you are bound to improve.
My favourite one is the trick I personally call “The simzalaboom” All you need: 1. A cigarette 2. Two working human hands instructions: You take out both of your hands with the cigarette on the table, take it in your hand and close your hand. Blow into your hand. Now this is where you will need the 2nd hand. You push the cigarette out of your closed hand with your pointer finger into a trashcan
Hi Oscar, I just had my long lost interest in Magic rekindled with a vengence a few days ago. My favorite Magic has always been slight of hand and card tricks. I have also discoverd Cardistry for the very first time as well. I have watched about 20 of your articles here on Youtube in the past few days, and every single one of them is pure gold and an absolute gem. I have subscribed to your website and about 6 other world famous top magicians heree on Youtube, but I have to say with all honesty you are without doubt my #1 favorite. You offer the most detailed, thourough and easy to understand instructions out of any magician I have seen. Doug Henning, Chris Angel, David Blaine, Shin Lim, Penn and Teller, Chris Ramsay, are all my heroes in the world of Magic, but you sir are not only equal to any of them in performance and showmanship, but you are head and shoulders above anyone else when it comes to teaching the craft to others. Thank you for providing me with inspirtation as well as giving me the tools to build a solid foundation with which to generate proper skills for magic. I could not excel nearly as well at these tricks without your guidence. Thank you and keep up the great work.
For the tricks that require double sided tape, you can actually just lick the back of your thumb and then press the cigarette against it for a second or two and it will naturally stick there for awhile. I know it sounds a little weird but it’s a good alternative when you’re at a party or something and didn’t think to bring double sided tape haha
Excellent. However, the issue I have with these types of tricks is that the unusual pose of the hand that has palmed cigarette/card/coin/whatever always gives the game away. The audience is usually polite and pretend not to notice, but all the observant people are quietly screaming internally “its in your hand”. For this reason I found the tape on thumb trick brilliant.
No need for the double sided tape on the back of the thumb. The same thing can be accomplished by licking the back of your thumb. Usually I secretly do this in the action of coughing. Now if you squeeze the filter with your 1st finger hard against the thumb nail and slowly peeling off your 1st finger. It’ll stick just like tape.
Slight of hand really is the most impressive skill in magic tricks. Sure, if you’re a huge performer in Vegas with a big budget, you can have the big expensive illusions. Sure they’re impressive and take skill and practice also, but slight of hand is pure skill and endless practice. The fact you can do it point blank, up close and personal in someone’s face and still pull it off is the best of the old school styles. I know a little bit about most of all this stuff. I read books, did little tricks as a kid. Only a handful of tricks I see, I can’t figure out. I like it that way. That’s the fun, that’s the appeal. I grew up perusal some of the famous old guys going on tv and just messing up the host of the show. When you have perfect hand skills you’ve been doing for 40 years, it very cool to see. I respect good slight of hand over any spectacular stage illusion. Sure, when I saw Chris Angel doing his Vegas residency on tv it was really cool. The fact that he “floated” above the casino floor inches away from the tops of the gamblers heads playing the slots was great. There was a camera right above him to follow the action as he said hi to the unsuspecting people right below him. The camera was right there. I really wanted to see his rigging for that one. He started way back down a row and eventually floated into the doorway of his theater itself. That suspension system was invisible. The overhead track it was on couldn’t be seen either. I’ll bet it was expensive. The fact that you really couldn’t see it close up was the impressive part.
Ladies, this man is not a potential partner for you! The Magic Circle has a code that no magician will disclose the secrets of their profession. Here, he is knowingly and intentionally putting loads of magicians out of work – whilst making money from YouTube adverts in the process (selfishness and greed). Not exactly boy-friend or husband material (because he can’t be trusted), I’m sure you’ll agree. Good luck looking elsewhere for men with honour and integrity.
Okay but how do you show both hands as empty before bringing it back? Trick one? You haven’t taught us that part. Youre making it disappear and come back and showing youres hands as empty before returning it. Where you hiding it from? Are these tricks for kids? Because anyone normal person would say lets see Your hands then youre screwed 😂
I used to vanish these 1,5 packs a day. stopping it was the difficulty ps. i highly recommend not using any supplements to do it. teach yourself mentally to hate it whenever you do it by actively thinking the tar and the other toxins spreading into your body when you inhale, causing cancer and lung diseases and impotence etc. set yourself a schedule for daily cigarettes and then add +15 minutes between the cigarette breaks each day until you smoke one a day and then leave that out.
Learned this one from Mad Magazine…It’s called the “Flying Cookie Trick”…a guy flips a lit cigarette while doing a trick..it goes up behind him and lands into the bottocks of a fat, dress wearing woman carrying a tray of cookies for the party…the lit tip slightly burns the area, causing the woman to react by quickly tossing the tray…thus launching the cookies airborne.
I used to perform a cig trick that I learned in college from this epic dude; I’m sure you have heard of this one already…It’s really just a variation of the double-sided tape that you use as a tacky surface for cig to stick to. If you have no double-sided tape, perform trick this way: first show them the cig and ask them if it is real, allowing them to hold the cig. As they inspect the cig, simply slightly lick the outside of your thumb below the fingernail. By doing this, you allow the cig to stick to the back of your thumb. Do not apply too much moisture or you will end up ruining the cig and trick. After they hand cig back to you, the back of your thumb will have slight moisture on it. Simply squeeze the cig, just as if you were using the ds tape. Do this for a few seconds and be sure to release your finger from your thumb, before performing trick, otherwise the cig will go flying and ruin the trick, because it may stick to your finger also, (you don’t want that). Then just keep going. It is so easy after just a few practice runs. You’re basically just substituting the ds tape with your saliva as an adherent. If I performed for a girl, I would pull the cig outta there ear. If a dude, I would perform, like you did, just puling cig back from “THIN AIR.”
The best cigarette trick I ever performed was in 1987 in a billiards bar in my hometown in Northeast Iowa. I was 17 years old and invited this huge 6 foot five 300 pound biker dude over to me telling him I could make his entire pack of cigarettes vanish into thin air. He obliged. I had him empty his near new pack of smokes having him place each individual cigarette between his fingers all lined up. I chanted some fake magic words, waved my hands over his hands full of cigarettes, then took his empty cigarette pack, crumpled it up, threw it across the room, called him a dumb ass and ran out of the bar. He didn’t look happy.
These are terrible. The cigarettes never looks like it disappears. It just looks like you’re doing exactly what you are doing. The broken cigarette is also obvious. The end of a cigarette does not look like a torn cigarette. That’s just showing the audience that you’ve move the cigarette in your hand. And double sided tape on your thumb? Can you make it more obvious? This is the kind of magic that gets eye rolls.
Yeah but them tricks don’t work unless your whole audience is in front of you at a certain distance if you got yourself standing in the middle of a party and you got audience 360° around you you’re going to get busted so the trick doesn’t work so can you pull these tricks off with people staying 360° around you show me that I mean make a real article and see if you can do that with people seeing them beside you and behind you and in front of you otherwise everybody knows it’s just a gimmick of a trick
I can do one similar trick without the tape. U lick ur thumb underneath the nail and stick the cig into it from the side where the cig has the “glue”. So the filter points up and u make a fist while squeezing the tip of the cig with ur index finger against ur moist thumb. Then u just cover the cig with other hand and open the fist where the cig is and it’s hiding behind ur thumb. It’s pretty neat coz u don’t have to have such a visual prep for it.
