Witchcraft, traditionally associated with hidden practices, has often been practiced in secret, especially in communities where it is misunderstood or stigmatized. • I live in a kind of strict and Christian household. My parents and sister are always saying “oh witchcraft is bad!” And it’s making me feel sad. Thank you for helping me out with this! I have managed to get a few crystals by saying “oh I think they’re pretty!” and I’m so happy you’re helping people with the same experience. Blessings 🩷❤️

  • I didn’t think as a child growing up that the “magick” I was practicing was bad, my family knew I had an extremely active imagination. But as a teenager in the 1960’s I would have been in trouble talking about it, when finally out on my own I bought books and wandered the mountains (Rockies) and talked to the trees, rocks, wind… Then I got married into a religious family, so I hid it deep inside me; but I shared my love of nature and “magical things” with my children. Before I retired I started acquiring books and researching family history, by this time my husband wasn’t interested in my pursuits unless I told him. I wish I could practice openly, but in the growing time of year I do in my garden…he doesn’t venture outside much anymore. I hope we can get through this odd time we’re in so those of us hidden can fully come into the light 🌟⭐✨🌠💫

  • I am Christian (southern Baptist), but my mother isn’t very strict. Although, I am 14 with a 6 year old sibling and it’s kind of hard to keep her prying eyes out of my things. My mother has also been looking into Christian witchcraft, so I can be open. I’m a baby witch and I’m learning crystals and herbs along with their protective and healing properties. Thank you for these tips!

  • I’m 52. I was not raised in a strictly religious household so was lucky there. However when I turned 20, moved to be with my husband and lived with his family, I had to learn to blend and hide as they were fairly religious. It happens. I learned all the bells and whistles were just not necessary. Learning symbols and runes to carve into plain white candles and moving energy as needed was easy to hide. Taking on a different personal meaning to things was also easy to hide. Learning history of various holidays and folk practices were life savers. Learning to use a length of string or yarn for knot magic, charging jewelry as protective charms, and getting to know the local flora and fauna all helped as well. Because I took care of our room alone I could easily hide things so that wasn’t much of a problem.

  • I wasn’t pagan, or a witch, as a kid, but I was interested in topics like mythology, foreign cultures, etc. My parents never took a huge interst in what I read, but they’d mock me a lot whenever I talked about that. Also my Mum always stole my diary, and was never even apoligetic about it… so as soon as I learned enough English at school, I started using it and never looked back. Also when computers came around, it was very liberating, because Mum never learned how to operate one! 😁

  • I live in a not very strict, but still Christian household, I’ve managed to purchase some magickal things, but I’m trying to learn as much as possible before i do any spells. Because I’m a minor it’s difficult but i manage. I’m almost 13 and i plan on thinking about witchcraft more till i tell one or both of my parents.

  • I was raised open to pagan and spiritualist beliefs because of my mom. Her family has been involved for generations. My dad’s family doesn’t like it so we don’t discuss it with them. And I never discussed it with any of my friends either. It’s only recently in the last few years that I’m discussing it publicly. More so on YouTube but not so much on Facebook. Too many of my older friends are religious, Catholics, and don’t believe in this kind of stuff. My dad’s family still closed off to it. However I’ve just turned 50 which gives you some freedom. I have to do what’s right for me. I’m not hiding who I am or what I believe in anymore. And Elena, you’re an inspiration! 💜⭐

  • i’m a baby witch and closeted and my parents are in the middle between chilled out and strict like i have experienced some of the things you have mentioned just w mothers being nosey and i just moved near a lake so that’s convenient for me and when i say closeted i mean i decided to start my practice a few weeks ago and am actually starting to begin work etc and another tip i have heard for moon water is to use tiny spray bottles and leave it in a window seal or smth like that and there are apps that can help w your practice i found a sigil app (sigils from the norse practice + you can make your own if you want) and i wrote them in my door and painted over it and you can say you like collecting crystals or rocks for your practice and color magick(?) can be very useful for closeted witches aswell and when you get a drink do the little whirlpool thing clockwise yo attract and counter clockwise to banish +my parents and whole family is christian and i do have a few family members that are ok w psychics and tarot card readings but don’t really think to much about it but it’s really my moms side of the family that brings the bible etc into things and can’t keep their mouths shut for anything really

  • I know i am quite late but this article is super helpful and my past is very similar to yours! pentecostal background, strict parents, and my mother reading through my dairy (not fun times lol) but I am an adult now but still remain in the same household and I would still call myself a baby witch since I can not be as active as I would like to be to practice. But your article is very helpful and informative and thanks! I learned so much more!

  • I can’t seem to find the emojis anymore but here’s a little star! ** As a teenager, my friends and I had our own little coven, but with time it fizzled away. Magic still calls to me now, as I’m married with two kids. So I’m currently in the broom closet, and don’t do much. But I’ve always made things with intentions, even without realizing I was still doing it. And I would make my son “feel better” or “protection” potions with just water and food coloring, or knitted sacks with stones, to make him feel better. I didn’t realize until I was perusal this article, that that was still a form of practice. I’m as connected to nature as I can be, and am working to be closer. But I might be a bit of a Kitchen witch? Or yarn Witch? I’m not sure if a title makes a difference, as long as you are connected with yourself. Well, thank you for your article, and I will be checking out more!!
