How Was It That John Hamm Was Cast In Good Omens?

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel Good Omens was directed by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, who passed away in 2015. The TV scripts were written with actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant in mind, eventually landing both actors. Jon Hamm, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Bad Men, is set to return as the Archangel Gabriel in the Prime Video series Good Omens 2, currently in production in Scotland.

Gaiman attended the London press junket for Good Omens, a six-episode Amazon adaptation of the novel. He played the character Gabriel, the leader of the forces of heaven in the TV series. In the novel, Gabriel is not featured but is only mentioned. Gaiman knew Jon was a fan of Good Omens because he had told him that it was his favorite book when he was young.

Gaiman cast Hamm in Good Omens over email, and the Mad Men star didn’t even have to audition to land the role of Gabriel. By divine intervention, Hamm appeared. Gaiman met Hamm at a dinner party several years before Good Omens went into production. They hit it off, and Hamm stars as a nattily dressed Archangel Gabriel in the series, which he describes as part buddy-comedy and part thriller, with some horror thrown in.

After failing to secure an acting job for three years, Hamm was fired by his agent and gave himself the deadline of making it as an actor by 2023. The series is set to be released on Amazon in 2022.

Does Good Omens have LGBT characters?

Good Omens season two is a refreshing departure from the usual LGBTQ+ show, with the cast’s support for the LGBTQ+ community. Tennant, Sheen, and Gaiman have all shown their commitment to queer characters and actors, not only in Good Omens but also in other shows like The Sandman and American Gods. This allyship is heartwarming and necessary, especially in light of JK Rowling’s hateful comments towards the trans community. Gaiman has never tried to retcon queerness into his work, unlike Rowling who admitted to thinking of Dumbledore as gay in Harry Potter books.

The show’s second season is praised for its increased queerness, and if Prime Video orders a third season, fans can expect more queerness and joy for the protagonists. Gaiman has promised to write another Good Omens novel if the show isn’t renewed, but the lesson is to avoid ending a beloved queer show on a cliffhanger before it’s confirmed for another season.

What angel was Crowley?

The Archangels in Good Omens, who reside in Heaven, are absent, leading to speculation that Crowley might be the fallen Archangel Raphael. The theory gains traction in the Good Omens season 2 premiere, where Crowley sets the universe in motion but never shares his name. This contrasts with an encounter in season 1 within the Garden of Eden, where Crowley openly introduces himself. • “Is David Tennant Scottish?” This is an obvious rookie question. The correct etiquette is to ask if a person is English. If he reaches into your nose, pulls your skull out through your nostrils, throws it to the floor, and tap-dances on it for an hour and a half, you may be reasonably certain that he is, in fact, Scottish.

  • On the end-note there, David Tennant was amazing in Hamlet. Highly recommend if you’re a fan and haven’t seen it yet. His delivery of the speech where he fails to kill Claudius “in prayer” is just…wow. If you can track down a article of his performance in Richard II, it’s pretty great, too. If you like hoyay, he had more romantic chemistry with the actor who played Richard’s cousin than he did with the woman who played the Queen. I love the Tenth Doctor, but Tennant doing Shakespeare is truly something to behold.

  • why is no one talking about the genius di** joke at 3:33 ??? 😂 „how tall is john hamm” tennant: 6.1 ? 😀 hamm: ✌🏽 tennant: 6.2 ! 😀 hamm: * mumbling something about actually beeing 6.1 and a half but rounding it up * tennant: that‘s what i do. say 6.1 instead of 6 and three quarters 🤏😏 hamm: 👁👃🏻👁 * dad-joke stare intensifies towards the camera *

  • What a stitch, these two 😆. I love it 👍 I have always been a fan of both these guys (especially David Tennant 😉, seeing as how I’m a huge fan of Dr. Who, and he was, by far, the best Doctor in the entire history of the show👍), but this article has only made me more fond of them – as people, not just as actors. They should do more articles together, they can play off each other and have brilliant naturally humorous candor.

  • Jon really is a proper St. Louisan every place he mentions is regular place nothin regular people wouldn’t know. He even does some tourism articles for Stl and attractions. Ted Drews the aquarium the zoo the botanical gardens forest park the arch. In the 20s I believe there was a bill signed called an arts and leisure tax. Most of the things are free because of that. I didn’t even know other zoos charge admission until i was an adult lol.

  • Watched the show, it’s amazing. Can’t say I agree too mich with the casting of God though. In anything else, I honestly don’t mind what nationality god is, but I just couldn’t help but feel that these direct lines of narration from the book were meant for a British accent. It’s the humour of it. It doesn’t quite come across properly with an American narrator. Maybe I’m just too used to the audiobook, but the delivery seemed much funnier in that. I reckon Niel Gaimon could have been brilliant at it. It came across nicely in the show Lucifer. Oh well, it could just be me but I don’t really think it was perfect casting. It was pretty much the only problem I had with the show

  • funny how the whole blues and world cup managed to make the rest of the world tune out the conversation… you know, for a world cup you actually need other countries teams to play in it, right, not just the US and Canada… I love hockey as much as the next person, but a championship with only 2 countries hardly qualifies as a world cup.
