The argument that KCI would be fine without Ancient Stirrings is based on the fact that Amulet Titan is already playing without one of its previous signature cards, Summer. Ancient Stirrings has broken several decks, including Amulet Titan, and it has been banned with field and OUaT. There is no data to suggest that Amulet will get a ban, and one week of above average results could just be an anomaly.
Amulet Titan can find lands or Amulet of Vigor, which enables the deck to run at its peak performance. Tron can find the proper lands to assemble Tron. Although many flavors of Primeval Titan decks have come and gone, Amulet Titan is the one that has held the strongest. Firespout and Kozilek’s Return are board control elements of choice to slow down aggro builds, with the latter having the advantage of responding to Ancient Stirrings.
Amulet Titan is the best deck in the format right now, and even if something gets banned, the deck will still be tier 1. It has all the traditional issues of ramp combo and needs physical cardboard to make mana. Peter Shmanka is not so sure about the banlist, but he believes that if (Card)Once Upon a Time(/Card) gets banned, Amulet will revert closer to something like previous versions that used Stirrings.
Amulet Titan is poised for a comeback in Modern, with bouncelands and toolboxes available. While it cannot pact for or Ancient Stirrings, it is quite good at a number of things when drawn.
