Astrology and Human Design are systems used for self-discovery, but they differ in their origins, methodologies, and focus. Human Design, created by Alan Krakower in the 1980s, is a spiritual technique that combines astrology, Kabbalah, I’Ching, Myers-Briggs, and astrology to help people understand how they use their energy and make decisions. It offers a personalized chart based on astrological and systemic inputs, including five unique energy types that inform interaction and decision-making.
Astrology plays a crucial role in Human Design by providing the planetary positions and influences that shape our unique design. The teachings of Human Design are based on Western Astrology, Chakras, Quantum Physics, Kabbalah, and I Ching, which have led thousands of people to self-discovery. Astrology is the foundation for Human Design, which begins with the birth chart and the snapshot for body/unconscious side with the sun 88 degrees prior.
Both Astrology and Human Design are systems of divination, and by analyzing both, we can begin to uncover how we can optimize different areas of our life. An individual’s Human Design is divined using a chart system, similar to a birth chart in astrology, and is a synthesis of four wisdom traditions: the Chinese I’Ching, The Hindu Chakra System, Western and Eastern Astrology, and the Jewish Kabbalah.
In summary, Astrology and Human Design are systems used for self-discovery, but they differ in their origins, methodologies, and focus. By understanding and integrating these concepts, individuals can make more informed decisions and cultivate better lives.

Is Human Design related to chakras?
Human Design is a personality assessment tool that combines traditional systems like Astrology, IChing, Kabbalah, and Hindu Chakra with quantum physics, genetics, and psychology. It provides a complex system that reveals an individual’s energy constitution, physical aspects like nutrition and environment, and life purpose and decision-making processes. Leandra Haupt, the Human Design Expert, helps individuals understand themselves and others, leading to acceptance of their characteristics and increased self-love.
In family or couple readings, it helps understand dynamics between individuals and helps identify strategies for improving relationships. Human Design is a complex combination of old traditional wisdom, calculated by birth time, date, and location. Initially skeptical, the deeper one delves into the topic, realizing that sometimes there is no need for a logical explanation to know that systems can be accurate.
Why do humans believe in astrology?
Astrology is a popular form of self-discovery and self-validation, according to Jennifer Freed, PhD. It is seen as a tool for individuals to develop their unique gifts and use them for confirmation and encouragement. Freed compares astrology to a beautiful staircase, where one takes every step mindfully, holding onto something solid to guide them. She believes that astrology can provide a boost of good luck, bolstering internal reinforcement and providing an illusion of control. Astrology is seen as a way to understand one’s identity and develop unique gifts.
Is Human Design spirituality?
Human Design is a spiritual system that helps individuals understand their personal and energetic essence, enabling them to develop an individual life path strategy. This knowledge helps individuals realize their unique life management style. San Miguel’s Gathering gallery in Ibiza is reimagining contemporary art in the north, while Khy collaborates with French brand Atlein, featuring Kylie Jenner and Antonin Tron.
The 2024 fashion trends include 5 must-have peacoats, such as the double-breasted à la mariniere, and a caban, peacoat, and double-breasted à la mariniere, to glam up the cold. These collaborations are part of the “2024 bingo card” for fashion.
How does Human Design relate to astrology?
Human design is a concept that combines ancient principles from astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and quantum physics to provide insights into an individual’s personality, strengths, weaknesses, and life purpose. A human design profile maps a person’s unique energy configuration at birth, outlining their conscious and unconscious personality traits, decision-making strategy, and potential for personal growth. Aycee Brown, human design expert, describes it as an internal GPS that guides how to navigate the journey.
Human design helps individuals understand their natural wires and work in harmony with their core motivations. The AstroTwins, astrologers to Beyoncé and Dua Lipa, also support this approach. The idea is to pinpoint a specific human design profile and use it as a guidance system to make active changes in one’s life. This self-awareness brings immense clarity, allowing individuals to focus on the “how” behind their actions and frustrations. The profile explains why they crave information or learn best through experience, empowering them to leverage their natural tendencies for better decision-making and a more fulfilling life.
What does the Bible say about astrology?
In Matthew 28:18, Jesus asserts that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to him. This contradicts biblical wisdom, as chasing after false gods is a sin. There is no biblical evidence that God has given authority to stars or astrologists. Pursuing predictions about our destiny or personality is biblically sinful, as it takes power from God and gives it to something other than God. A horoscope cannot change what God has already ordained before we were even created.
How is astrology related to human life?
Astrology claims that astronomical bodies have influence on people’s lives beyond basic weather patterns, depending on their birth date. However, this claim is scientifically false. Numerous studies have disproven that astronomical bodies affect people’s lives according to their birth date. For instance, Peter Hartmann and his collaborators studied over 4000 individuals and found no correlation between birth date and personality or intelligence.
In one famous experiment, Shawn Carlson fine-tuned the method so that various independent scientists agreed it was scientifically sound and fair. As published in Nature, he found that the astrologers could do no better at predicting the future than random chance.
Fundamentally, there are four forces of nature: gravity, electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. If an object affects a person, it must do so by interacting through one of these fundamental forces. For example, strong acid burns skin because the electromagnetic fields in the acid pull strongly enough on your skin molecules that they rip apart. A falling rock crushes you because gravity pulls it onto you. A nuclear bomb will vaporize you because of nuclear forces.
Each of the fundamental forces can be very strong, but they all die off with distance. Electromagnetic forces typically extend from nanometers to kilometers. Sensitive equipment can detect electromagnetic waves (light) from the edge of the observable universe, but that light is exceptionally weak.
The placebo effect is a psychological effect that makes people feel better when they believe in a useless method. This effect has been scientifically verified, and many pseudo-scientific treatments, such as crystal healing and homeopathy, help people through the placebo effect. Sticking to scientifically proven treatments gives the benefit of the belief and the benefit of the treatment’s action. For example, instead of reading a horoscope each morning, going for a walk is proven to be good for body and mind, and your belief in its effect will also help you.
In conclusion, astrology and other natural phenomena have no significant impact on people’s lives beyond basic weather patterns. Astrology, on the other hand, relies on the placebo effect, where the belief in a treatment does not actually make a person feel better.
What is Human Design based on?
Human Design is a system based on your exact time, date, and place of birth, which not only maps the planets in the sky but also identifies your dominant chakras to create your personal body graph. Reflectors should understand their individualism and hone it, but their energy can be unpredictable, so they need to rebalance more than other energy types. According to Human Design, Reflectors should wait about 28 days before making major decisions to balance themselves. If they are living their design, they should feel surprised and delighted by the distinctiveness of their life and how different their days can seem.
Your authority is how you make decisions, represented by the energy centers that are filled in and defined the most on your body graph. For example, some people may be more logical than their gut, so following their intuition may not be the best advice. Human Design helps explain the best way for you to make decisions, as everyone has intuition, but it is important to understand and balance it.
Is Human Design scientifically proven?
Human Design, a concept that combines elements from the I Ching, Kabbalah, and quantum physics, aims to connect ancient wisdom with modern science. However, its application is highly speculative and lacks empirical grounding. Quantum physics, for example, is a well-established scientific discipline but has little relevance to our daily lives or personalities. Human Design’s reliance on mystical experiences raises concerns about objectivity and verification, as scientific research relies on rigorous methodology, peer review, and reproducibility, which are not part of the Human Design framework.
Is there any truth to astrology?
Astrology is a belief system that suggests a connection between astronomical phenomena and human events or personality descriptions. However, it has been criticized by the scientific community for lacking explanatory power and scientific testing has found no evidence to support its premises or effects. The most famous test, led by Shawn Carlson, concluded that natal astrology performed no better than chance. Astrology has not demonstrated its effectiveness in controlled studies and has no scientific validity, making it regarded as pseudoscience.
There is no proposed mechanism by which stars and planets’ positions and motions could affect people and events on Earth in the way astrologers claim, which contradicts well-understood aspects of biology and physics. Modern scientific inquiry into astrology focuses on the correlation between astrological traditions and the influence of seasonal birth in humans.
What are the gates in Human Design astrology?
The placement of gates within a person’s Human Design chart provides insight into their distinctive characteristics, proclivities, and potential, facilitating a more profound comprehension of their energy dynamics, information processing, decision-making, and engagement with the external environment.

Thank you Richard. You make it very clear that Human Design is a useful tool. I have studied Astrology for over 38 years. I do not use it to predict, rather to know myself and others. Both Astrology and Human Design are useful to me. I consult both on a daily basis. And I use both to help others. Human Design and Astrology complement each other. They do not setup a conflict as comparing two religion might. They are both about what was above the temple of Apollo, “Know Thyself”. And, to me they both bring into our consciousness, “As Without, So Within. Or As Above, So Below. I am new to Human Design, and I appreciate the knowledge you share. Human Design has verified something I have known about myself for many years, and I appreciate that validation. However, Astrology saved my life many years ago and continues to support my journey in this body, in this incarnation. ❤
I use both astrology and HD to help my clients. You are far more than your sun sign, and the mandala of your birth chart can be expressed in a myriad of ways. There is also a high road and a low road of expression. So, it is a lifelong design to work with. HD can be so visual to get the centers, and to get the profile and authority is so awesome. Even with HD, the planets are moving around and activating certain websites and gates. So, the cosmos are still at work. There are so many systems that can illuminate this life and how to navigate it. I love having many tools to help. Both have been so profound in my life. While waiting for the invitation can be quite powerful in how it works out, it’s also disempowering to wait to be invited.
Excellent contribution, Richard! Wow. Summarizes a beautiful compare and contrast with astrology and human design! If you are able to share, how does one create a daily human design chart? Is it the same no matter where one lives? I receive your daily newsletter… but wondered this same question when I saw your new year articles… with the start codon gate.
Thank you so much for explaining this Richard. Being new to Human Design it sure helps to hear you talk about it. It has helped me alot, and I have my advanced report to work on as well. There is no doubt in my heart that this is the way for me to really get to know what I’m made of and it will help me free myself ❤️
Richard, I studied astrology 35 years ago, never practiced it as I did not like the predictive aspects, not intuitive enough I felt. Now HD is more my bag but I still return to astrology for transits! In astrology, I have a Leo Sun, Mercury,Pluto conjunction in 6th house and a stellium of planets in 7th, Moon, Venus, Mars conjunct in Virgo, with Neptune and Jupiter added to the mix in libra. When I was into astrology, several heavy outer planets, Saturn also in 6th, passing over these 2 houses! A very trying number of years! Astrology tells me however, HD does not, that my preoccupation in life is more what is outside of the self, on the DC side of the chart, while I find HD so egotistical, so self centred! Interestingly, I have 3 major houses, 4th, 6th and 7th and 3 defined centres, Throat, Spleen and Will, all others open, my shadow sides! I find astrology treats outer planets as more cosmos or generational, while HD puts more focus on them in our individual make-up. The fast moving planets affect us daily while transits from far away are long term trends. What I love about HD are the Incarnation Crosses, the nodes not being important before, though it has changed, in astrology, and the circuitry. I am individualistic and very tribal, a Manifestor 1/3, Splenic, single definition, cross of 4 ways. I still struggle with HD transits, Left/Right and meaning of websites. Combining astrology and HD helps me get a better picture as I continue to explore, investigate and experience my open centres!
Thanks Richard! It works, yes. But it’s definitely not everyone who is willing to go through the process, because it is challenging shattering the not-self. I see a lot of people super interested in HD in the way they like to hear about their astrology and they don’t get that it’s about actually experimenting with S&A and not just knowing some interesting things. I can also get pretty lost in all the mind candy of HD. Didn’t Ra say that the only students of his he’d allow to get caught up mentally were projectors? ehehe. I have been experimenting with waiting and following my splenic authority for over 2 years and it’s changed a lot of things. There’s a lot more relaxation in my life, and a lot more of living day by day, more in the moment. But I think I’ve also just become more and more aware of how deep the layers of my not-self are. It’s pretty mucky! 🤯 😅
Hi Richard, I just wanted to thank you for all the wisdom you are willing to share with us. I’ve been following for a few months now and I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all the time you put into these articles. Keep it up ❤ Sometimes we don’t say it enough but your work is greatly noticed and appreciated. Love from Bali, Indonesia 😊
Yes!!!! The guidance on the decision making process according to one’s Design, I have found VERY interesting because its something I’ve always been unsure of. Family and friends have often tried to rush me into making a decision and knowing now being a Generator with Emotional Authoriry and that it’s best I wait before making any, I feel alot of relief. I’ve got decisions in my life now about where to live and work so I’m putting the experiment into action ⭐⭐⭐
❤ Thank you very much for this article and all your articles and offerings. I very much enjoy listening to you over the past few years as I’ve dived deep into HD. You mentioned your Chiron cross is the cross of explanation? I am unfamiliar with the Chiron incarnation cross. Could you elaborate more on this other cross that I assume we all have besides our Incarnation Cross?? I would very much appreciate it 🙏 Great article!
Thank you Richard, I appreciate you sharing this! I find all the varies systems shed light in some way or other. It’s also super interesting to observe how some people feel resonance with one system over another. I’ve been meaning to ask, where did you get the large poster of the Human Design wheel that is behind you? I’t is quite beautiful and I can see how beneficial it could be to look at while listening to your talks. Much love, Roxana
Hi richard, thank you for this new article, at around 19’ you talk about your kiron cross, could you tell more about that, i never heard that please. The only personal comment i can make is that astrology allways sounded interesting to me but never caught me, when human design totally absorbed me within a year, smashing away most of all previous sciences of self knowledge i studied before.
The way I see it, it is sort of an error – at one level – to try separate the two, as in essence, Human Design is a different dimension of / inseparable from astrology. Perhaps just as one COULD look at human biology and chemistry as different, it’s sort of a fundamentally flawed approach to try isolate the two and speak as though they’re separate, given they’re inextricably linked – the chemistry an integral part of the biology, just as the energetic level as well – whether looked at through the lens of eastern systems of meridians or western or epigentics – also factors in. Thus, I find it quite silly when some people in astrology try to discount Human Design – or vice versa. It certainly may not be everyone’s path to dive into and master both, yet each have their value & place – with those dismissing Human Design missing out on so much for how the astrology translates into more of the human experience through the dynamics of the body vehicles, and likewise potentially much to be missed if focusing too strictly on the HD mechanics at cost of negating the astrological side.
Earth is not an element in astrology. It’s not a less scientific approach, you use orbits, degrees…size and material of planets etc. It also immediately speaks to you. Iagree with the more practical approach that HD has, and the language, to some extent but most of the divide you create here is not correct if you have studied the system.
In astrology we talk about how energy works within relationship to economics, business, and on many subjects. It is subjective because it is from the perspective of the subject themselves. The subject is always central. When working with individuals how can a chart or design not be subjective? If it were not it would take the meaning out of a reading. Do you actually know what you are talking about?
