Is Chakra Necessary To Use In Genjutsu?

Genjutsu, a powerful martial art in the JvF series, relies heavily on chakra for its effectiveness. The only genjutsu that has been effective on someone without chakra is infinite tsukiyomi. However, it is not true that a normal tsukiyomi or genjutsu should work the same way. Genjutsu produces sensory illusions that can only be seen by the individuals being targeted by the jutsu caster.

Chakra disturbances can be caused through any of the senses, such as sight, hearing, smell, taste, or touch. Yin type Genjutsu, which involves causing chakra disturbances, can be countered by using the victim’s own chakra against them. Users can perceive the flow of chakra through the Sharingan, allowing them to detect and disrupt its effects. Mastering genjutsu requires immense chakra control and high intelligence to craft convincing scenarios.

Genjutsu in Naruto can work on someone without chakra by controlling the chakra flowing through and linking their cranial nerves. It is a jutsu requiring quite a high level of intellect to craft convincing scenarios. However, it is becoming more accepted that CERTAIN genjutsus can work without the opponent having chakra.

There is no scan in the entire Naruto manga stating that Genjutsu requires a target to have chakra, whereas there is more than one scan. Jiraiya stated that all genjutsu works by chakra disruption, which then leads into the affecting of those five senses. Casting genjutsu involved forcing one’s own chakra into the target to take control of their chakra to manipulate their senses.

📹 The Genjutsu Problem

Who is the god of genjutsu?

The individual in question is either a hiruzen saratobi with an extensive knowledge of over 1, 000+ genjutsu techniques or an itachi who has mastered the pinnacle of genjutsu (izanami).

Does genjutsu require chakra control?

Jiraiya posits that genjutsu functions through the disruption of chakra, affecting the five senses. Although Kaguya is traditionally regarded as the first to possess chakra, alternative sources posit that this capacity is inherent to all living beings. Those characters based on a chakra-based framework, such as Shisui and Itachi, appear to lack an understanding of the concept of not having chakra.

Can you be immune to genjutsu?

Genjutsu Immunity represents a significant advantage, enabling individuals to Chakra Coat their Psyche and render Genjutsu ineffective. Upon attaining the pinnacle of Genjutsu expertise, one becomes invulnerable to Genjutsu attacks and exceedingly difficult to deceive oneself. This immunity represents a significant advantage in the context of Genjutsu.

Can anyone be put under genjutsu?

Genjutsu is a form of martial arts where a ninja controls the chakra flow of a target’s cerebral nervous system, affecting their five senses. This can be used to create false images or trick the body into believing it has experienced physical sensations like pain. The Aburame clan can detect genjutsu even when heightened senses become susceptible. It can also be used to manipulate others by feeding them illusive suggestions, similar to brainwashing.

Methods include integration with nature transformation and ingesting special pills that activate when the target sleeps. Audible genjutsu is considered the most dangerous as it can trap victims from long distances. Despite its usefulness, genjutsu is rarely employed due to the difficulty of performing it, which requires precise chakra control and advanced intelligence to make the illusion convincing.

Some shinobi, such as Kurenai Yūhi and members of the Uchiha clan, specialize in genjutsu, and the Byakugan can be used to extend the range of genjutsu. Overall, genjutsu is a powerful tool for manipulating the physical world.

Can you do jutsu without chakra?

Taijutsu, a martial art, does not require chakra for its performance, but rather stamina. Regular taijutsu doesn’t require active manipulation of chakra, except for standard attacks like punches or kicks. Chakra control is the key to its use, as it takes time and training to build up. A ninja should only mold as much chakra as needed to perform a given ability, as excess can waste and tire out faster.

If not molded enough, a technique may not be performed effectively or create problems in combat situations. Chakra, which is part of spiritual energy, can be easily molded by remaining calm and focused. This technique is particularly useful for students learning Leaf Concentration Practice.

How do you activate genjutsu?

Genjutsu is a form of martial arts where a ninja controls the chakra flow of a target’s cerebral nervous system, affecting their five senses. This allows the jutsu caster to manipulate the target’s perception of their senses, creating false images or causing physical pain. Genjutsu can also be used to manipulate others, similar to brainwashing. Most genjutsu is performed visually, requiring eye contact with the caster.

Other methods include nature transformation, ingesting special pills when the target sleeps, and Audible genjutsu, which is considered the most dangerous due to its potential to trap victims from long distances.

Despite its usefulness, genjutsu is rarely used due to the difficulty of performing it, which requires precise chakra control and advanced intelligence. Some experts, such as Kurenai Sarutobi and members of the Uchiha clan, specialize in genjutsu. The Byakugan can also be used to extend the range of genjutsu.

Genjutsu users can either appear unconscious or continue to move around under the pretence of genjutsu, which is effective in battle as it allows them to attack from behind or change the environment.

Can Naruto run out of chakra?

Characters such as Naruto Uzumaki are endowed with considerable chakra reserves, enabling them to accumulate and deploy a greater quantity of chakra than the typical individual. This can potentially result in exhaustion or even demise.

Can Goku fall in genjutsu?

Goku, in contrast to chakra and ki, is not an energy-based power source. Therefore, genjutsu should not be employed against him on the grounds of their disparate origins.

What is needed for genjutsu?

Genjutsu involves manipulating the chakra in an opponent’s body through various means, such as sight, sound, smell, touch, or taste. It can pose dangers to other shinobis and victims, and can be broken through various methods. To prevent a person from breaking a genjutsu, it is important to understand the process, its placement, and the methods used to break it. Additionally, understanding the dangers and methods of genjutsu can help in crafting a Naruto/Genjutsu fic.

  • Itachi was the best Genjustu user in my eyes. Eye contact with him was plain suicide. He could fucking POINT at you and you’d be captured in an illusion. His Tsukuyomi can let him torture you for 3 days, and then you realize it has only been a few seconds. It took the best healer in the world to help the victims. To me, he has the best battle-oriented Genjustu.

  • One thing I find interesting is the delivery of genjutsu. Ocular genjutsu are obviously very eye to eye dependent. When Jiraiya used it during his fight with Pain, it was an auditory genjutsu. That’s why I think the Paths couldn’t escape. The frog genjutsu is incredibly high level to begin with and since the delivery is from sound, ocular prowess wouldn’t mean much

  • I really believe that medical ninjutsu is based on Yang release which is why Kakashi was so impressed with Sakura mastering it along with her explosive strength because he stated that she was initially a “genjutsu-type” which would imply that she was predisposed to being good at using Yin release techniques yet went the entire other way to master techniques on the other side as well. This could also tie into the fact that the 100 healings seal seems to be a Yin release technique that holds back a Yang release technique and this may have also played a role into how she was able to master it when Shizune was not.

  • Maybe Sakura is a yin type just like the 2nd mizukage as well, it was stated several timess, that she is a genjutsu type and has great skill resisting genjutsu. Also she can use the yin seal jutsu. If Sarada inheritited this affinity, Sarada could probably become way more stronger than we all thought, caus that could amp her sharingang abs like susanoo etc.

  • Genjutsu can actually kill. I don’t know if this is from the Itachi filler arc or not but he killed a girl from his own clan by placing her under a genjutsu, showing she lived a entire full life under the genjutsu when in reality, less than 0.01 (I think maybe even less) passed by and she died from all that stress on the brain basically.

  • Genjutsu is not frequently used because they are restricted to some conditions: 1. The Genjutsu is strong enough for the enemy. 2. The enemy is not prepared for the Genjutsu. 3. The enemy is alone or can’t be rescued by his teammates. 4. The enemy isn’t a Jinchuriki. 5. The enemy does not have the sharingan (or a “stronger” sharingan). 6. The enemy is not better in Genjutsu than you. 7. The enemy is attackable while being in a Genjutsu. 8. The enemy senses the Genjutsu as intented (f.e. by his ears). 9. The enemy doesn’t know that he is under a Genjutsu or doesn’t know how to break free. 10. The Genjutsu lasts long enough for an attack or has enough attack power on its own. Of course there are circumstances in which not every condition is met and the Genjutsu is still effective, but this is rarely the case. All higher rank shinobis have some kind of method to force at least one of these conditions to not be forfilled (at least condition 3), because they know that Genjutsu is (if it is effective) the most dangerous technique. So why does nobody use Genjutsu? Because they are totally worthless in almost every situation you can have in a fight against a standard team with at least one jonin.

  • Hey Swagkage… Awesome article As Always Man!!! I hope you read this and can answer my question (its kind of a 2parter) — I’d like to know, What’s the difference between Sage jutsu or Senjutsu from Taijutsu and can you only receive sage power from Toads & Snakes or are there other animals a ninja can contract with… oh and are there any other ways to obtain Sage power? ? ? Big fan and thanks for taking the time . . . ! 🙂

  • I would love to see some articles on the different clans of naruto, especially if their is some history on them (like from the time before the ninja-villages). For an example the Akimichi clan is pretty interesting, as apparently they’ve been around for 16 generations, and their abilities are pretty cool, plus they have some history with the Nara, Yamanaka and Sarutobi clan. Technically i suppose that they posses a kekkai genkai (not a chakra nature kind) what with them being able to transform calories into chakra

  • An interesting point to Itachi’s usage of Tsukuyomi. The Tsukuyomi can be used to actually kill an opponent. If a target is forced to experience large passages of time in the time it is cast, regardless of whether it is a pleasant or terrible experience, the mind will collapse under information overload, and the person will die. During the Uchiha Clan Massacre, Itachi used this on Izumi Uchiha. She experience several decades worth of ‘life’ with Itachi, they grew old and died within the genjutsu. This was more than enough to kill her, but taxed the hell of out Itachi’s chakra supply

  • Could you do something non Naruto related? Don’t get me wrong I love Naruto and your website as a whole, but eventually you are going to run out of content from that series unless you start getting repetitive, and I know you’re not the type of guy to give us poor quality articles. At the very least it would be good to start trickling in Hunter X Hunter explain vids alongside any other new Naruto vids you are making. If you just finish making the Naruto articles cold turkey and jump straight into another series I’m afraid you’ll lose a lot of the viewers you have right now, since most of them are here for Naruto. It would be best to ease them into a new series they may find interesting while they’re enjoying your articles on one they already do. Anyway, sorry this was so long. If you do see this I just want you to know I’ve been perusal you since about 7k subs and I really want your website to keep the growth rate it has 🙂

  • Remember folks, Genjutsu does not only happen by altering a person’s chakra flow, but can also be a type of field that tricks the senses without altering an opponents chakra flow. Examples: First part of the chunin exams in Naruto. Ocular illusion Genjutsu without altering chakra flow; Mizukages Genjutsu that uses light refracted off the mist particles his clam creates to make illusions, no altering a person’s chakra flow. When team seven and Kabuto where in the forest of death under a Genjutsu, Sasuke checked everyone’s chakra flow and seen it wasn’t altered so the Genjutsu was an area of effect Genjutsu.

  • Not sure if you read it or not, but Izumi Uchiha, the girl who had a crush on Itachi, was put under Tsukuyomi in 0.000000001 billionth of a second before she was killed by Itachi. During that Tsukuyomi she grew up, became a Chunin, started a family, and had 2 kids with Itachi and died with Itachi by her side… And then she woke up and Itachi killed her before wiping out his clan. That’s probably one of the most depressing things I’ve seen in the show.

  • I don’t think people can have yin release as their “affinity” as it’s most likely the case for one Indra’s reincarnations which is why they are the ONLY ones capable of awakening the Rinnegan when the get chakra from someone with Yang release as thier affinity being Ashura’s Reincarnations As Narutopedia itself states “In general, every person’s chakra has an affinity towards one of the five basic nature transformations.”

  • Cool! New to Naruto (as well as most anime.. the only stuff I’ve seen are OPM, AoT, and Fairy Tail as well as a bit of a few others.) So this was helpful and concise.. So thank you, I’ll be coming back for more. P.s. I’m nearly done with part1, and I looked this up because I’m at the part with Yakuma and her crazy “Destroyed Konoha” genjutsu. I didn’t understand if the vines were real or genjutsu, and a few other things.

  • What if……. Itachi was super strong because he uses Tsukuyomi on himself and train in the Tsukuyumi world for years even though that it’s only a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a second in the real world. Since he totally controls time, space, and matter in there, he can do anything imaginable and unimaginable during his trainings in the Tsukuyomi World. He can choose his opponents there, their difficulty, how to counter each and every jutsu, make strategies and plans in every scenario that is possible in a match, and long term plans. Maybe that’s why he’s also good at strategies, planning, counters, and everyting. He has plans at work even after his death. Tsukuyomi, bruuuuhhhh.

  • swagkage, in a battle of an only ninjutsu user and an only genjutsu user…which one in your opinion would win and why. Please answer me because i’m the type of genjutsu guy, my favorite naruto character is itachi, which as you mentioned he is pretty good with genjutsu as he has the sharingan and the MS.

  • do you think you could go over the differences between the normal Genjutsu that people like Kureni and Jiriya and the like use, and the Sharingan Genjutsu, as well as how the generic Sharingan Genjutsu varies from the Mangeyou Sharingan Genjutsu (those being Kotoamatsukami, Izanagi, Izanami, and Tsukuynomi)

  • #Swagkage In your article about Tobirama vs Nagato you mentioned that the infinite darkness genjutsu wouldn’t work on Nagato because he has the rinnegan because “he can see chakra” but wouldn’t that not apply because it’s a genjutsu and not a ninjutsu. Since it’s not a massive wall of darkness but essentially cutting off the signals to the brain of information reflected off the eyes (medically blinding someone instead of like a bag over someone’s head)?

  • Would genjutsu work on people who are immune to telepathy like Thanos? Would it work on powerful telepaths like Professor X, Jean Grey, Emma Frost and others? Also how about 4th wall breaking people like Deadpool who are able to stop people from reading their minds (In fact Professor X died reading deadpool’s mind) or guys like Magneto who have helmets that block mindreading and telepathy?

  • Obito tricked Pain. Madara tricked obito. Black Zetsu tricked Madara. Kaguya tricked Black Zetsu. Who tricked Kaguya? ICHIRAKU. It all makes sense! Ichiraku put a genjustu on naruto and when naruto used reverse harem jutsu on kaguya, one of the clones forced her to loose on purpose, and then when peace is revived in the shinobi world, that is when he will strike. #ichirakurevenge

  • Can anyone tell me what manga swagkage reads? Is it possible to find online for free? There seem to be multiple different manga versions. I know VIZ has one, but there seem to be others as well. I would like the one swagkage reads, because it has the japanese names for jutsu and stuff. Like it won’t say: “shadow clone jutsu” but instead “kagebunshin no jutsu”

  • Create a weekly article with answering small questions that require small amount of time to answer/explain please! Like answer a bunch of questions until it makes up 5 min of the article. Like 1. How eye transplant works 2. Does Byakugan has any ocular genjutsu abilities 3. Do you die if all your chakra is gone but your normal human things are all good And so on. Just read more comments Thanks 😉

  • Swagkage please discuss Shisui Uchiha !! Obviosly that he let Danzo take his eye, did he planed for itachi to plan giving it to naruto ? Was Shisui the ultimate shinobi, even stronger than Itachi ? (He trained Itachi soo.. and Kotoamtatsuki und Teleportation) YO! even got a susanoo, maybe he would have got Tostuka Bade and Yata?-Mirror instead of Itachi ? To strong to live ? and even knew it himself ? bugs my mind wtf PLS DISCUSS HIM

  • Hey bro I don’t know if you still alive but can you answer me one question. What elemental style does Genjutsu fall under light style or shadow style??? because I know it’s not water style and it ain’t fire style. So please if somebody can see this reply back to me so I can put this out of my mind lol cus it got my head spinning 😂😂😂

  • When you pointed out how each Jutsu could be linked to an RPG Class made me remember how i originally thought the 3 main characters would shape up when i first started reading Naruto, that is: Naruto? Totally the Warrior type of the group, bet he’ll learn alot of awesome martial art combos with his clones and even turn them into weapons like that Monkey Summoning Sarutobi used. Sasuke? Deffinitly the Mage Type, Sharingan is able to copy alot of jutsus right? seeing he left the village he’ll likely get a chance to copy a crazy HUGE amount of jutsus to the point you never know what he’ll throw at you, always keeping that Amateratsu thingie Itachi used as his trumph card. Sakura? Rogue one, she’s gonna be all about stealth and subterfuge developing the Genjutsu talent Kakashi said she had, bet you her fights will be a festival of illusions and mind tricks that leave powerfull opponents open for easy attacks, likely she gonna be like Itachi’s Tsukuyomi once she reaches her full potential and be the less destructive but most dangerous of the 3. B O Y W A S I W R O N G ! ! !
