I think the “wand ” Jacob has is a device of Dumbledore’s own making. It’s to help Jacob blend in the wizarding world and might be enchanted to help Jacob defend himself in case Newt or another wizard cannot help him at a precise moment. It’s not out of Dumbledore’s abilities to come up with something like that.
i believe the wand was his grandmothers and they have some connection to the hufflepuff legacy. he also shows how fantastic he is at baking and could see all the magical creatures which muggles cant so somewhere he is magical. it just took him longer to find out his powers. it is what i hope anyway. otherwise why would they put his grandma’s picture and reference her so much? through the first two films they only mention the grandmother. perhaps to hide him from something until the big reveal.
Here’s the other theory I have. Since perusal the trailer, I wondered why Dumbledore only awards 3 points to Hufflepuff because it’s such an odd number. I think it’s a clue to the theory SCB came up with a while ago that Jacob might be a decended of Helga Hufflepuff…Why, you ask? Well in that scene, if Jacob is a decended of Helga…that means there are 3 Hufflepuffs in the room…They would be Newt, Thesus (I just looked this up) and Jacob….. Just thought. 😁
I can only bring myself to agree with theory 1. Not out of hope, but out of reason. Jacob is simply too susceptible to stuff that should be (are) wizard/witch-only. I know I’m not the first to note this, but the revelation that Jacob can see and enter Hogwarts without succumbing to the anti-Muggle protection (unless it gets lifted for him; a strange idea) only corroborates this theory further. To have him be a Muggle after all this would leave A LOT of explaining to be done, and that just doesn’t seem practical for the franchise.
Since I saw the trailer I think it is a kind of „advanced” disguise for Jacob – it is a fake wand to blend in that is enchanted by Dumbledore to protect Jacob in a moment of need like the Shield Hats and Shield Cloaks that Fred and George were selling in Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes to ministry employees who were not capable to produce a shield charm by themself.
I think Jacobs wand is an enchanted piece of wood that makes a muggle to be able to see magical things and places like hogwarts. Perhaps it’s enchanted to do a specific magic when it meets a specific person. Like Al us enchanted it to create a mental shield around it to keep queenie out of your mind. Maybe queenie’s presence triggers some sort of magical effect that would disarm her.
I’d have to guess that somehow Jacob developed some level of magical ability either through the murtlap bite as one poster suggested or perhaps by being around all the magic in the first two movies. It’s possible someone in Jacob’s past, a squib maybe, had the gene for it, but it was so weak it didn’t manifest itself in Jacob until he was exposed to magic because remember the rain used to erase everyone’s memories didn’t erase his memories like it should have.
I’m still thinking it’s a “wand” that Dumbledore imbued with a certain amount of power that will allow Jacob to aid in their task. With Dumbledore’s foresight, he is giving Jacob a tool that will both help him blend in, and be useful at key times. A bit like how Dumbledore left the Golden Trio those specific items in his will. More specifically, Ron and the deluminator.
I feel that Jacob is a muggleborn from descendants of squibs whose family magic has returned (the origin of all muggleborns) and something happened with the MACUSA not allowing him to train as a wizard whether it be from his parents refusal to lose there son to the magical world or something as we know wizards are not allowed to even talk to muggles in America so Jacob never truly became a wizard (he wouldn’t develop an obscures because he didn’t suppress the magic he just didn’t know it was there much like Harry before receiving his letter) and now dumbledores has sensed the dormant magic within and given him a wand to spark it back to life
my theory is that the wand is especially made and enchanted in some way to allow a muggle to use it. in effect, it would make jacob appear as though he was a regular wizard, but in reality, it wouldnt even be a real wand, just some magical artifact with some cool enchantments. i’ve always wondered why it has been the witches and wizards that are hiding in the harry potter universe, and not the muggles. how did the muggles ever defeat the wizarding world? maybe it was using artifacts like these. if that is the case, jacob’s presence and wielding of this wand could have some troubling implications, especially in the minds of many wizard supremacists.
Here’s a theory. Jacob is actually a wizard. He stated in the first movie that he was part of the “expeditionary forces in Europe” He served in WWI. Trench warfare. Some of the bloodiest warfare in history. First time chemical weapons were used. He’s saw stuff so horrible that he couldn’t take it anymore and to cope he tried to use the obliviate spell on himself and something went wrong. Or he came across another wizard serving on the other side and they had a duel and the other wizard used the spell.
So Jacob has proven time and time again that he is selflessly in love with Queenie. One continuing theme throughout the series has been that love can have strange and powerful affects beyond the norm in the wizarding world. So what if through the hugely “mysterious” magical power of love is enough to “activate” magical power in Jacob that wouldn’t normally have found expression in Jacob? Personally, I’m just romantic enough to root for this solution of Jacob obtaining a wand.
At first i thought that despite being a muggle he’ll be able to use a wand, since, even tho it’s mostly a catalist for witch’s or wizard’s own magic, it still contains some on it’s own, and with proper training coule be mastered by someone with the right wil land attitude. Now that i think of it i believe it’s more possible that Jacob is just a late bloomer or a muggle born. From what i found on the internet, Jacob is a polish soldier who escaped the country after ww1. So he couldn’t been spotted like Harry or Hermione, since there is no such system in poland, and theres no magical school there. And kater in life those magical abilities, unused, could’ve just faded into an asleep like state, so MACUSA couldn’t detect his magical abilities either. At least that’s what i think could be possible
Check the films of the Deathly Hallows. In Rita Skeeter’s book there is a picture of a young Grindelwald holding a wand, which looks pretty much like the one they give to Jacob. If I would have to guess, I would say Dumbledore gave that wand to Jacob to protect him, since Grindelwald might not be able to kill the one carrying his wand. Something similar to why Voldemort could not kill Harry, even with Lucius’ wand, because of the Horrocrux inside Harry. Just speculation, but fun to think about.
Personally, I believe Jacob has always been a deep cover agent for Dumbledore. Dumbledore is quite good at playing the long game by using people without their knowledge. Jacob was an American Wizard, and possibly an Auror. Dumbledore approached him and convinced Jacob to be Obliviated, forgetting he was a Wizard completely. The Wand is just one of many keys to restoring Jacob’s memory. It was actually Jacob’s wand prior to being Obliviated. One of the reasons Queenie is so taken with Jacob and why Newt is such a friend to him is because they were also Obliviated. Queenie is Jacob’s wife and Newt his Best Friend, but because of the spell do not remember him… yet. When Jacob finally meets the requirements of the Obliviate counter-spell, it will be him that restores Queenie and Newt’s memories and it will be at a key moment to stop Grindelwald. All of this deception is necessary because Dumbledore’s unbreakable vow with Grindelwald keeps him from acting directly, but not indirectly through others.
I kinda wish there was more to learn about the American Ministry Laws where in the HP series we learn more on the Britsh Ministry Laws that Muggles are somewhat aware of the Wizarding world through marriage, relations, and coming in contact with magic. Example would be the Dursleys. The are aware of the Wizarding World and even though they didn’t care for it, they still dealt with it. If they were in the U.S., they would probably have their memory erased since in the first Fantastic Beasts the American Ministry didn’t want anyone who was not Magical to know of the Wizarding World.
I was just doing some scrolling online and found some interesting things. Would Jacob be a late bloomer? “A late-bloomer was a wizard or witch whose magical ability did not manifest until adulthood. This was a very rare occurrence, as most experts in the wizarding world agreed that magical ability, if present, would be revealed by age seven.” I think the following is from 1999: “Q: Will there be, or have there been, any “late blooming” students in the school who come into their magic potential as adults, rather than as children? By the way, I loved meeting you, and hearing you speak, when you came to Anderson’s in Naperville. I can hardly wait until you tour again. JKR: Ahhh! I loved the event at Anderson’s. It was one of my favorites. That is completely true. No, is the answer. In my books, magic almost always shows itself in a person before age 11; however, there is a character who does manage in desperate circumstances to do magic quite late in life, but that is very rare in the world I am writing about.”
Ah… Just watched this yesterday. I THOUGHT this was going to be the last movie but apparently not. Remember that the final duel takes place in 1945, this is still the 1930s.. can’t tell if it’s pre- or post-Nazi takeover, but there’s going to be WW2 taking place. And I’m exceedingly curious how they will manage to intertwine real history into this story. That the final duel takes place in 1945 implies that that is what ended WW2 – and that Grindelwald was perhaps a CAUSE of WW2 (maybe he was behind Hitler – this was my thinking when I first read Philosopher’s Stone). Does the Wizarding World get involved? How? Will German wizards end up fighting British ones? Or do the wizards stay united behind the scenes and try to mitigate the damage? Do Newt and Theseus end up in Lieutenants’ uniforms? Where do they serve? Maybe they’re behind behind Bletchley Park? Which real historical figures do we get to meet – Churchill? Stalin? Hitler? Montgomery? (Based on track record – none of them.) Will we get to see Russian and Japanese wizards? Their take on the events immediately pre-war, in 1938 and 39 will be fascinating. They say they’re going to see how well this movie sells before they decide if and when they make the next two movies. So I hope it does well… but at the local Cineplex Dr. Strange completely has taken over the shows today.
I’ve actually heard a theory about half-wizards from a fanfic called “Harry Potter and the Super Bowl Breach” Essentially, squibs are people who can see magical entities, but can’t perform magic. But what if there are people who can perform magic, but can’t see magical entities? It’s actually very logical if one thinks about it. People who can both see and do magic go to a school, but squibs don’t go, so those half-wizards don’t, meaning those half-wizards remain undiscovered. Maybe that’s why Jacob has a wand. He’s a half-wizard.
I think it’s a wand or a wand-like object that was enchanted by Dumbledore that can do very basic spells or maybe just one simple spell specifically just by flicking it or activated in a way that doesn’t require magic ability. Maybe a spell like flipendo or lumos or just the ability to shoot sparks or something similar. This would help him blend in as a wizard but also have some practical use.
My thoughts: It’s Helga Hufflepuff’s wand. Dumbledore’s outward reasons for giving it to him could be all that’s been theorized (so he’d blend in; It would be available if it was needed by one of the others, etc.). But when has Dumbledore ever not had other motives?! I believe he’s experimenting with Jacob – and seeing if Helga’s wand will reawaken the latent magic in a descendant.
I think Jacob is magical. Maybe his memories blocked magically to protect him, maybe because he is a direct descendent of 1 of the original founders, maybe the wand belonged to his ancestor. I can’t wait to see how this plays out. Jacob’s character is valuable. JK does nothing without a very good reason.
I think Newt gave it to him because they need all the help they can get to take Grindelwald down if he comes back stronger or to allow Jacob to pass himself off as a wizard. Maybe the reason why Jacob is at Hogwarts is to become a wizard like the rest of the team, to know how to use a wand properly, and to learn magic. (Just a theory)
I cooked up a magic RPG world where the equivalent of muggles or no-mages are in fact the most powerful magic people of all. Descendants of an ancient magic family that caste a protection spell that shielded them from all magic attacks but with the side effect of blocking their own magic ability’s. They can be attacked with magic but its really hard. They also can’t remember magic the next morning if they see or experience it. These are called Greys by the magic community. It could work in the wizarding world as a legend or secret the dark mages want to hide. I can’t do characters as well as J.K Rowling can though.
If you’re a person that has the ability to be hyper-observant, as well as the thought process to reason out clues given in the first two ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies, you’ll deduce a few things for yourself. Namely, the Polish name ‘Kowalski’ basically translates to ‘the son of Smith’; and ‘Smith’ graduated MANY people from the Hufflepuff house at Hogwarts. Research will reveal that Helga Hufflepuff was warm, friendly, outgoing, and loved to bake. Hmmmmm. Jacob has also been able to see many things that most No-Maj people cannot. One small example would be the crystal ball at Nicholas Flamel’s home where he sees Queenie in it. There are plenty of other hints that he also may possess hidden magical powers. I’m still working on WHO’s wand this might be. It’s going to be AWESOME when it’s used (hopefully). Remember Neville Longbottom’s incredible destruction of Voldemort’s LAST Horcrux, Nagini with the Sword of Griffindor?? Who would have expected HIM to set up Harry to seal the fate of one of the most powerful, evil wizards to have ever existed???
I would point out that the US magical authorities did not notice Creedence was magical, to the point where Grindlewald (as Graves) assumed he was a squib. With all the obliviating going on in the US, I really suspect a lot of illegitimate half bloods slip through the cracks. Even so, I expect the wand was just for Jacob to use as part of his cover.
I believe that the wand given by Albus to Jacob could be a twin. The same way Harry’s wand and Voldemorts shared a phoenix feather from Fawkes (Dumbledore definitely knew what he was contributing). Dumbledore knew this would tie them together, and provide Harry with protection. I believe that it could be a twin wand of another character, either Queenie, Credence or Grindelwald. Therefore, if Jacobs wand was attacked by it’s twin, it may recognise it and respond of its own accord. Maybe. Looking forward to the movie and loving the articles as always!

He is given an enchanted Wand that has the ability to cast one or a select few spells already stored within it. So that there can be a clerical oversight error at The Magical Congress of the USA. So that he will “be a wizard” So that they can get married. So that Queenie will turn on Grindelwald. To what ends and how important her “betrayal” will be, I hope it is not required for the great duel but rather is just something small. But it could be as big as Grindelwald had already figured out a way to break/ignore the blood pact and she simply reads this info from him and shares it. But it all requires Jacob to believe he can cast magic. Or else he wouldn’t ask her to marry him.
I can’t believe I didn’t watch the Fantastic Beasts movies for so long they are phenomenal and a true honor to the HP Spirit I like them more than some Hp movies. Anyways I hope Jacob stays a muggle it’s more interesting to show how even a muggle can be important and useful to magical affairs and it will bridge the gap between muggles and wizards like Newt wants and Grindelwald doesn’t want. His character is more interesting being a non wizard muggle who just got lucky. Like he’s the fans dreams of getting caught up in the magical world and discovering it’s all real!
I”ve got a theory for you. Several in fact. 1. The wand contains spells that will be triggered by specific situations. 2. The wand is Dumbledore’s, because the same magic that prevents Grindelwald and Dumbledore from attacking one another by extension works on their wands. 3. While Jacob holds the wand, he is not the one wielding it. Someone not immediately visible is doing that. And it is THEIR wand. My guess? James Potter’s father or mother.
I think it’s a possibility that he is a wizard but one whose powers were not strong enough as he grew up, for him to be able to attend a magical school. A bit like Neville Longbottoms family for a long time thought he may be a squib, and let’s face it, Neville didn’t really develop fully until the later books and movies, starting in Order of the Phoenix and then by Deathly Hallows he was truly shining. It could also be that Jacob’s parents or guardians wanted to protect him from the magical world and didn’t let him attend school and had his memory wiped, but then coming across Newt, the magic within him woke up again. By all means if Jacob was 100% muggle, he wouldn’t see the magical creatures as they’re invisible to muggles. And I think the reason Jacob did not develop one of those demons himself, is because he was never forced to suppress anything and he wasn’t aware of magic, a bit like Harry Potter before Hagrid came to deliver the letter. Credence on the other hand knew about the existence of magic since he was living in such an anti-magic environment and he was constantly abused and oppressed and got beaten even more if showing signs of magic, he was never allowed to just be himself, something that could possibly have happened to Harry as well had he stayed with the Dursley’s full time after finding out that he’s a wizard.
So I have a theory that Jacob is magical in some sense. The founders of Hogwarts put a spell over the grounds so that any non magical person would only see ruins of a castle, no matter what part of the castle they enter. The fact that Jacob is sitting in the great hall eating with students supports him being magical. He could be a dormant wizard. Who knows
I believe Jacob is the descendant of the creators of the American school, the twin that didn’t have any magic. Also, Dumbledore stated, he couldn’t find anymore more worthy or something. It’s a family heirloom from the snake tree, so belonging to him and would protect a descendant of Salazar Slytherin 🤔
Muggles can’t see magical creatures or hogwarts due to the protective spells. So I think the best guess is he’s from a family of squibs and muggles(and therefore it went unnoticed, because there was never enough magic to be seen) and there’s finally enough magic in one of the descendants to be noticable by a powerful wizard like Dumbledore who’s open to the idea that even those with (seemingly) non magical parents can potentially have magic in them. He might be a late bloomer, so to speak.
I wonder if Dumbledore actually disarmed Grindelwald in Godric’s Hollow and that wand is now loyal to Dumbledore himself. That would make that wand very valuable because it would have some of Gridelwald’s magic inside and have Gridelwald as an enemy making the wands kinda like the phoenix wand and Voldemort’s original wand.
Dumbledore strategist who plays the long game. In the trailer it seems to me that he has decided that Jacob has a role to play in his plan. My first thought is that the wand is a special one and the reason it is given to Jacob is a no mag is the last person who would have it. But Jacob shows the wand 2 times during the trailer. That’s not hiding the wand. So I think Dumbledore is using Jacob as a distraction. Also I really hope that Jacob is a no mag. It just seems to me that him helping wizards is more significant in a society that severely limits wizard and no mag interaction.
I think it’s just a normal wand but because Jacob doesn’t know any spells or learned how to use it he can’t cast anything.. think first years learning wingardium leviosa they need to learn the right wand movement ect to actually cast Also I feel like his character is less special if his a squib or has any sort of magic. Being a full muggle amd being able to experience all this stuff makes it much more special
Here is a theory for you in Fantastic beast 1 Newts says “I know you have some backwards laws saying you can’t merry or date muggles ” that’s all fine and good. May I say I know they are American but in Fantastic beats 2 why didn’t they apply for citizenship there? Doesn’t that mean they could get married and not go to jail or is Newt looking at his perfect world ? Your thoughts cause i’m rewatching the series for 2d time and paying attention a lot more than i did the first time like 6 years ago or what ever.
They had to give Jacob magical abilities because story wise he has no function otherwise. Otherwise all he can do is follow Newt around and try to stay out of the way. The wand will have been “charged” up with magic so that even muggles could use it, like a battery, but has limited use. I suspect that in the end it will be Jacob who saves the day with some unexpected magical act.

SuperCarlinBrothers made a theory long back that Jacob is an heir of Hufflepuff and is a squib. That would make sense, cause otherwise he would NOT be able to see Hogwarts castle. Remember when its mentioned that if a muggle/no mag were to stumble across the castle, it’ll be looked as a ruins. So the theory of Jacob having a fake piece of carved wood will not make sense narratively.
The wand chooses the wizard. Wands can change allegiances. I believe that it was Dumbledore himself who made Jacob’s wand. This wand is only the second wand in the known wizarding world that is CROOKED. The other being Bellatrix’s. My theory is that if wands can change allegiances owing to them being won in a duel…that a wand can also RESIST a spell being cast if it is being used for something particularly heinous as when Bellatrix tortured the Longbottoms into madness. I believe that Jacob’s wand became disfigured due to Dumbledore enchanting it to be able to be used properly by a muggle. The wand resisted these enchantments and became bent in the process. A wand can produce magic through a muggle albeit with not much control. Even the chimpanzee produced a spark in the first FB film when it grabs Newt’s wand.
I have a theory: American non-magical humans (No-Majes) and British Muggles are not the same species. Muggles cannot use any magic but No-Majes can use a little. Isolt Sawyer’s husband James Stewart can use the wand of his wife. And he usually does it a lot. Because No-Maj is not a word as Muggle in the US. Barebone got Dorcus Twelvetrees’ wand and shows it to other people. Because he was a Squib of Soucerer’s ancestors.
I could totally see Dumbledore being like I’m going to use my epic future site and be like here Jacob take this It’s going to be important you will know exactly when the right time to use it is and then either like you said it’s a functioning one and he’s going to throw it to like Dumbledore or his friend to help them in time of need and also he could be using it to blend in at the same time
I don’t think it could be Grindelwald’s original wand as the prop replica sold by The Noble Collection, and by extension the Harry Potter Universe, looks completely different. Ofc they could just change that fact and create a whole new want and get rid of the wand currently called his first wand however Idk that it would make sense given that particular want has never appeared in any films and wouldn’t be easily connected to the Dark Wizard right away. My theory is Jacob is a US Muggle-Born, but for some reason or the US don’t acknowledge them children from nonmagi families are allow to become witches or wizards. This is the case because Hogwarts is enchanted to look like old crumbling ruins to Muggles but Jacob is able to see the castle in all its glory, unless there is a spell to undo the enchantment that they didn’t explain. Still I would like to believe Jacob has some magic in him, and I feel he’s to represent the fans of Harry Potter and the Magical World, how amaze we are and wish we ourselves could be apart of it.
I think that Jacob‘s wand just looks like a wand but isn‘t. It is a magical object created by dumbledore and is a forerunner of the deluminator, only it can‘t remove lights, but can tell you, what a beloved person is saying or thinking. It connects lovers over far distances. Maybe it was created by Dumbledore and Grindelwald in times when they were „more than friends”.
Or the wand could have been programmed by a wizard or witch to obey the current handler’s wishes. Ex,. A wand made from Acacia wood refuses to do magic for anyone but its owner, so this means that other types of wands WILL do magic for others. In other words, if a wand that was loyal to Dumbledore, (such as a a wand made out of Hormbeam) would absorbs its owner’s code of honor, and refuse to perform acts – whether for good or ill – that don’t tally with their master’s principles. And if the wand was paired with a Phoenix core, which has been know to perform magic without it’s owners consent or desire, then anyone magic or non magic could use it. However, the wand itself would be the one in control, not the other way around. It would act as a kind of bodyguard to the individual holding it. However, once the original owner demanded it back, it would refuse to do anything more for the current handler.
This comment is completely unrelated to the article but as a kid while only perusal the movies growing up I was really hoping that they’d pull a ‘Dumbledoor is actually an older Harry who used time travel to in a way guide himself to succeed in defeating Voldemort this time and guide himself along with prior knowledge of the events that had already happened and not run the risk of himself running into his younger self because he’d never recognize him’ 😂😂 It’d ruin a whole bunch of canon plot but I was hoping something like this was gonna happen.
Jacob is a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff! Kowalski can be transcribed to the English Smith and vice versa, and what important Smith do we know from the books? Hepzibah Smith… the old lady who owned Hufflepuff’s Goblet who clearly states that the goblet was handed down to her through the generations. Zacariah Smith and Hepzibah Smith were also Hufflepuffs!!!
I know the movie’s out already and most of us have watched it and know the movie, but I’ll still comment. It might be that the wand is a magical object prepared by Dumbledore that will do something (that Dumbledore decided beforehand) at a specific time/situation. Kind of like a portkey that transports those who touch it from place a to place b at a set time.
Mixed marriages could be legal in Poland where Jacob had immigrated to America from with his family when he was a baby. He could be the product of a mixed marriage that was able to exist in America legally through a grandfather clause. Jacob could have shown powers when he was young where his wizarding parent had bound his magical powers because even though his parents could be together if he had shown any sign of magical power than he would have been taken away from his family unless the magical parent left their non magical spouse with Jacob to live in the magical world. Jacob did have a brother who might of been a squib. That parent probably died before they could tell Jacob of his magical heritage, when it became important when the unthinkable happened, he was introduced to the magical world. Queenie discovers this secret and tries to unbind his magic and Dumbledore finds out about it which causes him to give Jacob a wand.
I wonder if there are any muggle-born squibs. People who aren’t magical enough to be able to use a wand but still see some magical creatures and withstand some magic. It would make sense as to why the memory-rain didn’t last on Jacob and why he can see half the stuff that should be invisible to him. Or one of his parents or grandparents was a squib and his own magical power is just very weak to the point he never noticed.
I think that Jacob is a squib that grew up in the muggle world. He has a small amount of magic, but not enough to count as a wizard. The wand, I think, belonged to Dumbledore’s mother before she died. Albus then held on to it after her death, and sensing that Jacob had a small amount of magic, he decided to give it to him.
Question: is there any source material that can be read to make the Fantastic Beasts movies make sense? I watched the first two movies a while ago… thought the first one was pretty good, but the second one kind of sucked… re-watched the first one a couple days ago and found it terrible… I did not understand it at all.
Maybe the line between muggles and wizards isn’t as concrete as some would like you to believe. Perhaps Jacob could gain some magical powers somehow, which would play against the themes of racism that are driving the conflict between all characters in the story. After all, what better refutation could there be of grindelwalds bigotry?
The wand that Dumbledore gives to Jacob is in fact Grindelwalds old wand. If you google Grindelwalds Wand and go to images it actually shows up 🙂 Grindelwald is wielding the Elder Wand already in the Crimes of Grindelwald. In Fantastic Beasts, when he is in disguise he is wielding a different very plain looking wand, even when he attacks aurors in the underground station it still looks like he is using that plain wand and not the Elder Wand.
Maybe the wand was originally Helga Hufflepuff’s wand. With Jacob being a descendant of her, means that the wand would work for him in a way that it would not work for others. I also want to point out that the occamy that begins to hatch while Jacob is holding it, and which later Newt actually tells Jacob is his, could possibly be a familiar. Also Jacob is given the silver occamy egg shells to help him get the loan for his bakery.
i heared of a theory that jacob might be a descendant of Helge huffiepuff herself, if this is true in someway that means that jacob has some magic blood in his family for awhile, and Dumbledore knows this or founds out before the events of the 2nd movie or before the events of the up coming movie and in hopes of websiteing his magical birth right give him the wind to give him the chance to try to do some spells

I don’t think I will be so bold as to expect my own to be original theories, but I did come up with these independently, and hope it might contribute to the topic’s discussion at some level. Please forgive how disjointed this description may be. It’s doubtful these thoughts are anything more than poorly imagined fan fiction, if parts that are merely my own, but hopefully not too unbearable regardless. (addendum: After writing this I went through the current prior 452 comments and found several with similar theories pertaining to the “enchanted” or “charmed” wand being “charged” with spells. I’ve gone through and added a like to those I caught. But also added likes to several other theories I think are more plausible than my own.) Theory 1 of 2 Firstly a few definitions of what I’ll be trying to talk about here in Theory 1, (tentatively intended for simplicity’s sake): * ≠wand – a faux wand or wand facsimile, so to speak. A wand crafted not to cast spells, but enchanted only to store precast spells to be released later, or a ≠wand (not-wand). Kind of like a prepaid phone card I suppose. It would store spells much like Hermione’s handbag stores things. Its behavior, in further detail, will be described below. * wand loader/true caster – A true witch or wizard, who cast the spells stored into the ≠wand for later use, to be released, upon need.) * spell dispenser – the user of a ≠wand What if the ≠wand, is enchanted to store a number of limited predefined spells?
Maybe it is because Jacob is from America, and maybe they don’t allow Nomag born magical children to learn magic during this point in time, explaining Credence and his built up magic, like Ariana Dumbledore… AND/OR maybe the American school doesn’t have a magical book and quill to name Nomag born magical children.
I hope we will find out one day Jacob’s hidden powers. And it will feel like we, muggles, can find out one day than we can actually be wizards,for example. Childish a little bit, of course, but like an adult spin-off of an original saga this story provides a strong belief in one’s uniqueness. I suppose that Dumbledore might have his own big game here, just like in original series, and this plan will be unveiling gradually throughout the upcoming films. Maybe this new Jacob’s wand will even help do defeat Grindewald or distract him. I just hope that Jacob will survive, because there is no reference to him in neither in Harry Potter books nor films. It’s definitely Grindelwald’s original wand. My Theory: Dumbledore probably received it from Grindelwald when he got his hands on the elder wand so as a token of his past love for Dumbledore, he sent his original wand which he “had no use for anymore” stating that it was a reminder of a past he cannot hold onto if he wishes to achieve his ultimate goal. Possibly it is the only wand that can go toe to toe with Grindelwald so Dumbledore may have seen a future where he needs to use Grindelwalds wand against him, so he wanted to make sure it was safe and accessable to him when the time is right.
I genuinely feel like Jacob has been given Grindelwald’s original wand that he would have abandoned in favor of the Elder Wand. In his arrogance he wouldn’t have thought that abandoning this wand would have any negative effect, but doing so could make his original wand a turncoat, ready to shield Grindelwald’s enemies out of sheer spite. I’m calling it now; Jacobs wand used to Grindelwald’s.
Additional theory: Queenie is actually undercover (perhaps she’s an occlemens as powerful as she is a legilimens) and this is known to Dumbledore. The wand is for Queenie when she (inevitably?) gets caught, or so she can have a spare wand to use for things that she doesn’t want showing up on the wand people know about (priori incantatem).
