Is Magic Bands Being Discontinued By Disney?

Disney has announced that MagicBands will no longer be provided complimentary to Walt Disney World guests starting January 1, 2021. This change was originally announced in June 2020 as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. MagicBand+ is the next generation of wearable technology at Disney World, featuring interactive features for the 50th anniversary. A limited number of MagicBand+ bands were sold earlier today, and Disney is offering refunds. Walt Disney World Resort guests have the most MagicBand features available, but day guests and annual passholders can still use them.

The first version of MagicBands was discontinued and replaced with the MagicBand2, which many people continued to use. The new MagicBand+ is now available at various times throughout the year, with new bands being released at various times throughout the year. The original MagicBand and MagicBand 2 can still be used around the resorts and parks, but they have been phased out.

If you love MagicBands, they will not go away. Your old bands will continue to work if you keep them associated with an active account. Disney also stopped offering free MagicBands to Annual Passholders, meaning that all MagicBands now cost money. In an exclusive Disney interview, the bounty hunting business at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Batuu is booming, and MagicBand+ is a guide to finding virtual bounties hidden across Black Spire Outpost with the Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Do people still use MagicBands at Disney?

MagicBand is a valuable add-on that enhances the ease and convenience of a vacation. It’s popular for its foolproof nature and its functionality as functional keepsakes that can be reused for future trips. Previously, MagicBands were free with a Disney resort reservation, but they are now available for purchase up to 11 days before your trip in My Disney Experience or 6 days if shipped to your resort. This makes them a worthwhile investment for any vacation.

Can I use a MagicBand from 5 years ago?

You can use a MagicBand from a previous Walt Disney World vacation for your next one as long as it is active in your My Disney Experience account. The MagicBand’s battery can last up to two years, so you can use it for multiple vacations. However, your MagicBand’s 5-6 year old battery may not be functional and is sealed, making it impossible to change or check at home. If the battery is depleted, you can purchase a new MagicBand at various Walt Disney World stores. If you want to purchase MagicBands before your vacation, shopDisney offers a great selection.

  • totally worth it. i got one of the original mb+’s when they came out. it still works flawlessly, even after a bunch of trips. i like the mb+ more than the mb. the light effects are really cool, and the hepatics are helpful, reminding you that you’re passing one of the statues (and going off during fireworks, for example). automatically getting ride photos is a nifty trick.
