As year by year goes, this track will always remain as one of the most legendary Christmas tracks ever created, and what a legacy it has! As literally there’s one month left till Christmas, no better time to play it than now, one of the very few tracks that’ll never get old, no matter how many times you play it, and still hits the heart, and the same since its release. Amazing how many iconic legends we have collaborating for this iconic hit. Phil Collins with his legendary passionate drumming skills, George Micheal, Sting, Boy George, Bob Geldolf, and many more, sad to see that we’re slowly losing them one by one, but lets all be grateful. All the best, hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, Feliz Natal, and Happy Holidays! 🎄☃🎁👋
(Paul Young) It’s Christmas time There’s no need to be afraid At Christmas time We let in light and we banish shade (Boy George) And in our world of plenty We can spread a smile of joy Throw your arms around the world At Christmas time (George Michael) But say a prayer Pray for the other ones At Christmas time it’s hard (Simon LeBon (Duran Duran)) But when you’re having fun There’s a world outside your window And it’s a world of dread and fear (Sting) Where the only water flowing Is the bitter sting of tears (Bono & Sting) And the Christmas bells that ring there Are the clanging chimes of doom (Bono) Well tonight thank God it’s them Instead of you (Boy George & Others) And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows No rain or rivers flow Do they know it’s Christmas time at all? (Marilyn & Glenn Gregory) Here’s to you (Paul Young) Raise a glass for everyone (Marilyn & Glenn Gregory) Here’s to them (Paul Young, Marilyn & Glenn Gregory) Underneath that burning sun Do they know it’s Christmas time at all? (Chorus: All) Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Let them know it’s Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it’s Christmas time again

I will forever miss George Michael. Not only did he give his huge talent and heart to this project (despite knowing that it would knock his desperately wanted 4th #1 single of the year into 2nd place and decimate his personal, musical goal for WHAM for that year), but he and Andrew (WHAM) also donated all of the proceeds from “Last Christmas” to African Relief Charities that year and onwards. He was a huge talent and a class act with a big heart. I wish I’d seen him in person…RIP George, 80’s icon and legend.

There was a time when being famous with a belief and having an endeavor to bring awareness to it was acceptable and without backlash but praised Thirty years later, most if not all of these artist are actively involved in social matters that they believe in Sadly we have lost some to soon but fortunately we still quiet pioneers fighting for the good Thank you for a beautiful song and a strong message
All these years later, the bells still give me goosebumps… I love how the artists are all so focused and professional. Duran Duran’s John Taylor said in his book that most of them were hungover (this was recorded on a Sunday morning) yet there were no egos, everyone was intent on givving a good performance for a good cause. PS – I was just in Italy over Christmas and this song was played everywhere! 🙂
Won’t get tired of perusal and listening to this Christmas song created year of 1984…till now every 1st day of ber months started playing and let my neighbors hear the message…happy holidays to the British artists who joined and after 40yrs.still reminding to share give and LOVE for those who’s badly in need to Feed them…..GOD ALMIGHTY CREATOR THE FATHER ….Bless us all in JESUS Name…💖… from Philippines
I was 12 years old when this song was released. It’s still my favorite, traditional, and nostalgic Christmas song to date. I love it! ❤ And I grew up listening to all these performers and bands in The 80’s. It’s sad to know some of them aren’t here anymore to enjoy Christmases like we had back then. 😢
If you look at the backstory: Sting didn’t want to sing his line, Bono hated his line, George was only 21 but was telling them how he was going to sing it as damn he knew what would work, Paul Young sang lines written for David Bowie, Simon Le Bon had a hard time getting his lines right and Boy George rolled in just in time to do his part while drinking a bottle of whiskey…. and the song is freaking great with these guys who headed it up! That’s what happens when you put extreme Talent together!
Oh my god I’ve been looking for this forever. I’ve had the synth noises at 2:25 in my head since I was a kid but I had no idea where they came from or if I made them up on my own, but now I know. I heard this on TV a few days ago in the other room very faintly, and it felt like a life mystery of mine was finally solved. You have no idea how happy this makes me…
Boy George and Bono have the most memorable voices on the song. George Michael sings as though professionally trained, like an opera singer would. He opens his mouth fully, and lets the sound flow freely. The way he closes his eyes and is in the moment. Incredible musical ability, unique and unmatched.
One of the most legendary Christmas tracks ever created, and what a legacy it has! Phil Collins carrying the drums, and an iconic George MIcheal, What a time! A Merry Christmas to all! Wishing you guys all the best, and a great start to the upcoming new year! Literally a Christmas track that’ll never stop getting stuck in your head around this time of year, espically on Christmas day and it’s been a blast ever since it was released! Reminds me of the great times, and how time flies, and how grateful I am for it. All the best. Feliz Natal, Happy Holidays! 🎄☃🎁👋
Such a great song. Written nearly 40 years ago to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The concert that followed a year later (Live Aid) was organized for the same cause. None of the artists, songwriters, or producers made money from this. They did it to raise awareness and to make a difference. True Christmas spirit. Goodwill to our fellows around the world.

I read a lot of posts from black peeps complaining that the lyrics are condescending and downright racist. What they don’t realize is that when they sing “Do they know it’s Christmas?” and “Let them know it’s Christmas” they’re not talking to the people who are in Africa. They are reminding the Western people that have the means to help that it’s Christmas time and they should think of giving, not just receiving
Yes it’s amazing song, the talent is unbelievable just incredible, but this song is also very special to me for another reason, the day it was recorded was the day I was born on (Sunday 25th November 1984) I was born around 6am and by 8am the Artists were arriving at the Notting Hill studio in London. What a fantastic piece of history to be born on. I actually have the newspaper which features at the start of the article, which my dad brought at the hospital Where I was born at. This song will always be special to me & my family…❤ 38 years on still gives me goosebumps to know I was born on this day.
I love this song ❤ so here are the lyrics😊 It’s Christmas time, there’s no need to be afraid At Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time But say a prayer, Pray for the other ones At Christmas time it’s hard, but when you’re having fun There’s a world outside your window And it’s a world of dread and fear Where the only water flowing Is the bitter sting of tears And the Christmas bells that ring There are the clanging chimes of doom Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life Where nothing ever grows No rain nor rivers flow Do they know it’s Christmas time at all? Here’s to you Raise a glass for everyone Spare a thought this yuletide for the deprived If the table was turned would you survive Here’s to them Underneath that burning sun You ain’t gotta feel guilt just selfless Give a little help to the helpless Do they know it’s Christmas time at all? Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Let them know it’s Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it’s Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it’s Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it’s Christmas time again Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world (Feed the world) Feed the world Feed the world
It’s not officially holiday season until I hear this. It’s even harder to watch now that George Michael is gone (and on Christmas Day!) Legendary song. So many amazing moments in the making of long form article. So many gone… Paul Young Boy George George Michael Bono All their vocals were on point. I miss the damn awesome 80s so much.
The greatest decade ever!! Music TV movies!! Everything was so much better!! No cellphone no internet and we didn’t need it!! We always know where everyone was and we had MTV and the radio for the absolute 💯 music!! We didn’t have cable most of the 80’s and we were fine with a few websites because TV was so great and we actually went outside and played all day and riding bikes and having fun!! Thirsty!!? Someone had a garden hose! Hungry friends had things if were weren’t close to home but we usually had a little change and you could grab something.
A lot of people make a huge deal over “We are the World” because of all the mega stars involved with it, but this is what started it all. Without this, there wouldn’t be a “USA for Africa”. It was Bob Geldoff’s idea to use music as a means to raise money and awareness for the starving people in Africa. Everyone else jumped on the bandwagon afterwards. This will forever be a Christmas classic!
My sister bought this record in 1984, late in the year, of course. I liked the song initially. But I didn’t love it. I truly love it now. It is amazing with some incredible artists. A lot of people would not realize how great some of the English artists were in 1984 to 85 or so. Duran Duran was the first band I saw in concert. So Simon Le Bon was a big deal. That goes without saying, Paul Young and George Michael. Love to hear this every year around Christmas. Paul McCartney is the master. But there are a lot of great artists. Thanks for the memories.
The original song was back in an era when they actually thought they were promoting something righteous and selfless…… unlike the 2014 version where you have two dozen self interested pricks trying to push, warble and “rap” their way infront of each other. Such an upsetting and sad reflection of the music industry and times we live in 🙁
It’s not even Christmas now, it’s August 2024, the world is sick. Nothing will take away the experience we had in the 80’s and 90’s. Life was só good back then! As the saying goes: all good things come to an end, but our memories will live on forever! The world literally changed 9/11… It will never be same. Thank you for the music!
Brilliant song 🎧 by a brilliant person and an incredible musician 👩🎤 with great music who deserves all of this recognition for their hard working efforts and dedication in this amazing project that will bring you great things in life to your career as well thank you 🙏 Thank goodness you will get this award 🥇 love Emma Barlow and Gary Barlow
Christmas Eve 2023 and reliving my youth . Just turned 50 on Monday . I’m thankful for living here in the states and having my fiancé at my side tonite. There’s so many without that I can’t help to feel a little sad perusal this and listening to it on my Bluetooth speaker in shower ( yah whatever lol) I’m blessed so merry Christmas to anyone reading this and why can’t they do this now ? In 2023 these celebrities have more power to do good but choose to be selfish . My generation rocks and gave their all to the world .
Not terrible…….not racist. Just a song with simple lyrics for people to understand and sing along to. A FANTASTIC SONG. “We are the world,” is also a fantastic song……catchy and designed to raise money. If you think they are racist…….you are most likely from Africa and looking way to hard at it.
