Magic Technique For Switching Cards?

The magic card trick “The Swap” is an impromptu trick that requires only a single deck of cards and uses the “double lift” method to create an illusion of switching two cards. This trick is sure to impress friends and can be performed with just a plain set of playing cards. The magician holds a card in their hand that is not the spectator’s selected card, and with a quick snap of the fingers, the card turns into the selected card.

This video tutorial aims to teach anyone how to perform the magic card trick “Snap Change” and provides a guide on the card moves needed to get started. The trick is performed by David Blaine and is available for download and purchase on the 52Kards app.

Another magic trick is the “Snap Change” trick, which involves holding a card in the spectator’s hand that is not their selected card. With a snapping motion, the magician drags the front card behind the second card, ensuring that the first (index) finger pinches the second card firmly. This trick is perfect for anyone looking to impress their friends and learn some magic tricks for beginners.

  • Good explaination. Always wanted to do this one and now I can practice. Personally I like the “paintbrush” change. To me it is more amusing and giving a bonus trick to the person. Also at the end of a trick needing an extra like card, I would do a quick one handed deck cut in case someone tries to look at the top of the deck in ur hand.

  • This trick and others tricks of yours have helped me at parties and everyone at the party was just looking at me and they kept saying “do another !” I learned all of my tricks from you because you are like the best magician I know and always will be! Your the best and pleas keep making articles!!!!!!!!!!

  • When there are more spectators, I prefer the Rapid Transit from the Royal Road, which doesn’t require a duplicate and involves two spectators. I also do it for one spectator: I put the first (indifferent) card aside on the table, later do a top change (instead of the third double lift) and do the “magic” as in this hand sandwich trick. With the duplicate card the effect is more powerful, but each variant is really fun.

  • Something that could also be a good suggestion that you could maybe mention some other time or other viewers reading this comment this could help: whenever I do the trick either if I’m feeling uncomfortable with the Marlo tilt or if I’m too lazy to do it, while the spectator(s) looks at the card I do the turnover move on my leg as get a break and when I take their card back I don’t show them the top of the deck, put their card face up on top of the other face up card, and then double lift

  • Quick force question. Do you know how Blaine or Angel (or now Dynamo and whoever else) does the force where they ask them to think of a card and know it? Or think of an important person and know it? The only way my brain can wrap around it is the person has to be a plant but the reactions just look too real. Just wondering. Thanks for all the great magic!

  • I had one guy in Vegas do the trick. I had mentioned I knew some of the tricks because it’s one of my favorite tricks. So… he did it again. But he swapped the card in my hands 3 times while it was sandwiched and I have no idea how the hell he did it. It wasn’t a heat activated card or anything and I swear he never touched the thing. Still baffles me after so many years.

  • When i perform this trick, a lot of people assume that there has to be a duplicate involved somehow. So what i want to practice is giving the deck to them, saying “here, check for any duplicates” while one-handed top palming the duplicate card. That way there is no way to comprehend the trick and it’s absolutely mind blowing. What are your thoughts on that, is it a good idea to incorporate it as a convincer?

  • Jarek, you don’t actually need a duplicate card. It will look a little less impressive, but i did it too without a duplicate. I’ll tell you. 1. You ask your spectator to shuffle the deck. 2. Spread the cards out, and ask them to pick one. 3. Let them watch it. 4. Spread the cards out again and ask them to put it back. (As they put the card back, get one card on top of it, and get a pinkie break) 5. Cut the deck till u come to the pinkie break. Then just get the whole deck on top. Now their card is on second of top. 6. Distract them, like asking “what was your card?” And while talking, watch the first card. Remember this card. 7. Tell them you picked a card in your own head already, and tell them wich 1 it was. (The card you had to remember) 8. Snap, and show them the top card. 9. Let them snap, and do a double lift, so they see their card. 10. Turn the card around, and give them the real top card. 11. Let them sandwich the real top card. 12. Pick their real card, and go like around and around the card. 13. Let them see your card, and then show theirs. Done! Success practising :p

  • I like to do this trick with the “kindof” shake change happening under the spectator’s hands. It looks very magical when I hold one card i disappears under the hands and bam, different card. To do that you can either do a mario tilt with 2 cards on top or keep the duplicate on the bottom and, with few cuts cover chosen card with a duplicate.

  • he has got the same cards on the top bit but he has got a jack on the third card. he just put the 3 in the middle and get another 3 from the top, then the takes 2 card (3 and the jack) and simple turn it around to show is not just all 3 in the deck then he turn the card back again. which allow him to pick up the 3

  • What I do is have to duplicate cards, sandwich one in between two others at the top, then force the one sandwhiched in-between, and then actually put it back in the deck. Then I go back into the trick. You are great Jarek 1:20. You have taught me so much. BTW: Am I the only one who feels like they would forget my head before I would forget my cards? If you took me to a funeral I swear I would be sitting there shuffling my cards.

  • if you dont have a double card, you can take a jack of spades from a different deck (blue green purple orange) and tape a red card (most likely a joker) on the back of the different colored jack this will create the illusion that its a red jack of spades and also help you with the double lift for all you beginners out there! (I’ve tried this myself and it works trust me)

  • For an even MORE incredible affect (not effect) I use low value spot card… with initials or a signature (duplicated on both exactly) Since I use my cards there are inevitable markings left by previous spectators so I make it SEEM like it’s an innocent older mark. I ALSO have THEM sign their card and emphasize that now it’s a “one of a kind” it’s quite literally THEIR CARD. (I do not mention duplicates) Now when you perform it THIS way the astonishment grows EXPONENTIALLY!!! Doing it THIS way is turns a trick into a MIRACLE.

  • What about the one where the magician has the whole deck between his hands Then you and a few others put your hands on his and press hard Then the deck just disappears How does that one work Or the one where a card is laid out face down on a table and somehow is changed to another card Or where a card is teleported into an empty card box (shown to the audience immediately before the trick)

  • when I’m was a kid I saw David Blaine do this trick than a kid came into the restaurant I worked at and showed me on Halloween.. I had to learn. So I bought a deck of cards and started to think.. than it hit me how to do it when to of the cards stuck together by chance..I went and bought another deck of cards and got a double..this is the first trick I ever figured out and still my favourite to this day..it gets the best reaction besides the window trick which is the same theory..lol You can complain in the comments.. or 5:28 😂👍

  • No duplicate needed. I perform a kind of version called show stopper I learned with a Svengali that I have reworked to do with the standard deck and no duplicate? Have a card chosen and returned, move to top with fav method. Double lift and say this is not your card is it. They answer no. Say hold onto it for a min. Return double lift to deck and slide top card off and Place in sandwich. Place whole deck on top of hands. Stops peeking, perform magical gesture. Turn over top card which is now one that was in hands. So what’s in hands? Their card. Wow amazed. Granted duplicate gives extra wow but not essential. I’ll article it if anyone requests.

  • Much props bro but you don’t need two cards the same Have the spectator take the deck and have them shuffle take the cards back perform a double lift put the top card in their hand have them close their hand. Now have The spectator call out their selected card. Now say am going to switch card don’t blink Then nice and slow make The so called change have them turn the card over in their hand Then you turn your card over showing you made the switch You can then hand the deck out And on top of that the spectator had the deck to begin with when they shuffled it. More powerful in the long run
