I use thumbcuffs to get a similar effect. The benefit is that I can use a small child to put them on my thumbs. I have them place a silk handkerchief over it and pull my thumbs in and out of the cuffs as I straighten out the silk. The child usually does not catch on to what I am doing but the audience does.
