The difference between your reviews and others is how unbiased they are and if you don’t know something about another product you don’t just assert your opinion as if you do. This is why I rely on your reviews over all others. I have purchased my Venom during the initial presale August 15, 2017. So I have had mine going on three years. You’re review is spot on. Venom is an awesome set of reels. I too have a very difficult time with thread work. Last week during my support my online favorite magic shops during this pandemic. I purchased the download for the Web Spinner and made one based on the article. I also found they were still sold at SEO magic and I ordered one of the originals. They may not be in production any longer so I am keeping it as is a collector’s item in the package for now. Ironically the one I made uses the exact same materials and was identical in every way. (I just guessed – it took me a while to find the spinner part, but for the sake of the magic code, I am not going to say anything more.) Anyway to make a long story short. I am now able to strip thread sight unseen, I can actually do it in the dark. Also on another topic I just purchased my second “the pod” its an electronic reel that retails for a hundred dollars. I am going to try connecting two in a venom rig using Vectra thread. Not sure if its going to work, but I have been dying to give it a try. Once I have done some testing I will update this post.
The past year I bought the Venom and i love it, is a veru cool tool to work with. The thread is just perfect for me and is very easy to create new tricks and find new ways to use it. The only bad thing i had to say, is that you need to find the place with the right amount of light, with indirect light and the right eye distance it’s almost invisible.
BUY VENOM! I am a professional worker and like he says it is 1000% worth it if you want to do thread stuff but hate breakage and current set ups with the ear and the wax. The hook up they teach alone is worth the money. I recommend you buy venom and get 2-4 cheap itr/thread boss reels as, no matter what, thread breaks and 2 thread boss’s works great as a cheap back up using the hook up they teach. The venom gimmick is far superior to old/cheap ITR’s as it is easier to fix on the go and customize, but it still takes “a bathroom break” to fix. Getting the cheap ones allows you to keep going in a pinch as you get used to venom for your shows. No wax makes it waaaaaay easier. BTW when I say cheap ITR’s i mean the $10-$20 range, they come with thick strong thread just like venom. You can also use these for the anchor effects they teach and not need to remove your venom. Also if you get venom I would ditch the pen clips and use safety pins to secure to your clothes.
I’m a huge fan of thread magic. I own the venom but to be honest I’ve never perform one of the tricks that he teaches. The thread is too visible which makes it harder to work with. I’m not saying the product is bad. It is pretty good. I changed mine’s thread and I put Yigal mesika’s thread. It is thin and invisible even at one meter or less. For those who are new in thread magic I recommend Loops by Yigal mesika. In my opinion, its way more easier to master before jumping into reels (ITR). Spider pen pro by Yigal it’s a pretty good option too. Overall Venom I think is more for the professionals and people who has more experience in this field of magic. Beginners, try loops and some others thread products before jumping into venom. A normal thread reel to begin with it’s a pretty good option too. You won’t be disappointed with Mesika’s Loops. It is not a thread reel but it’s a pretty good start.
This is the most informative review I’ve seen from you yet. I love that you’re showing other websites to research this ITR as well. I own an ITR and don’t use it. I think the dual ITR is worth the investment. Your comments about direct sunlight showed me what I was doing wrong in my practice. Thank you as always! Please continue!
David – been buying up a storm and truthfully, base most of my decisions on your reviews, so thank you. Question – looking for the best 2 to 3 coin magic suggestions that use a gimmick. Doesn’t need to be a new release. My coin sleight skill is very average, so looking for something with small to mid range handling needs. Thoughts?
A friend just gave me the box with the 2 reels in it a few weeks ago. No instructions or link to any. Hes not at all in to magic so i have no idea how he even got them, and he has no clue how to use them 😩 ive been scared to mess with them bc i dont want to break them just trying to figure out how they work. I guess i need to buy a new set so i can get the instructions and just look at it like i got a back up set for free. Great review as always. Thanks David
I’m guilty to say I agree with Acershot. Thank you David. Not to trash Magic Cafe, but I notice lots of people sing praises of a product without…well, actually talking about the product. I trust your reviews as does the community. I thank you (and I may actually get this!!!) XD Update: Bought it. <3
Venom is great. The setup is genius. One of the cleanest and easiest ready to go setups for certain tricks. Haven’t performed with it much live because of the major anxiety with thread magic. But it’s very exciting and I think the tricks explained on the DVD is only half of what’s possible if you really take the time to get comfortable with it. Mine has surely broken/snagged before but I was able to fix it in less than 20 minutes as opposed to years ago practicing with Tarantula and it breaking within an hour. Never being able to fix it and throwing that $100+ down the drain lol Definitely worth the investment if you already use rings often, are comfortable with IT, and/or you love really beautiful visuals in your magic!
I bought this and the cap crack in the 3rd day of practicing causing the tread to tangle and snag. I always go back to the boss reel, and those can be linked the same. I feel like the venom would be better priced at or below $75.00. $160.00 was way too much in my opinion. I only used it one night for bar magic and that was it. Thread magic is tedious in of itself especially when something goes wrong.
