Magic Truffles: Can They Be Grown?

Magic truffle cultivation involves the use of spore syringes, living mycelium from your preferred strain (Psilocybe mexicana and Psilocybe tampanensis), grass seeds, a grow bag with filter, a pressure cooker, and water. Truffles are similar to mushrooms, but they require less moisture and low temperatures. They contain psychoactive alkaloids, psilocybin and psilocin, which can make you experience a psychedelic experience.

To grow magic truffles, create optimal growing conditions, such as a sterile and controlled environment to prevent contamination and ensure the truffles are healthy. Truffles can be grown in light or dark spaces, but the spot should be out of direct sunlight. The process is similar to growing magic mushrooms, but without the need for fruiting chambers or expensive equipment.

In the Netherlands, smart shops now offer magic truffles as a legal alternative to outlawed mushrooms. There are two commonly accepted methods for growing magic mushrooms: purchasing a premade mushroom grow kit or using a psilocybin truffle grow kit. Magic truffles cultivation doesn’t require much space and doesn’t require any expensive equipment.

Much like growing psilocybin mushrooms, magic truffles can be grown in artificial environments. The first step before starting truffle cultivation is to create an ideal substrate, such as rye grain or brown rice medium. The Dutch government has ruled that growing psilocybin mushrooms does not qualify as “manufacturing” a controlled substance.
