Methods For Forcing A Magic Card Trick?

A card force trick is a basic illusion that can impress with its ability to guess a card a volunteer has drawn from a normal deck at random. There are various ways to perform this trick, including holding up the bottom card for the spectator to see, dropping the cards on top of the pile, and putting them aside. This technique is versatile and can be added to your card tricks and magic.

One of the best ways to force a card is to ask the spectator to choose any card and make them pick the card you want them to pick, while leaving them thinking they had a choice. There are many ways to mentally force a card, such as taking out a different deck of cards and forcing the Jack of spades. This easy card force technique was given to the author by a YouTuber. Mastering card forces allows you to perform tricks that seem physically impossible to the human eye and amaze your audience.

  • EXCELLENT! Tons of techniques explained and demonstrated very well and most importantly, QUICKLY. A lot of tutorials take way too much time with pointless talking. This is by far one of the best articles I’ve seen, invaluable. Seriously, amazed. So much information crammed into this relatively short article. Thanks so much. You’ve got another subscriber to your website.

  • I think i just made new card force idk if i can explain it so you say im gonna mix cards and ehatever is on the bottom is your card you start with force card on top and then you do overhand shuffle and move top card to bottom im sure you know hoe to do it and there you go you mix for 5-6 seconds it looks good

  • Salt force is such a good trick, but it’s good to give very little salt and pad should be dirty a little bit. Like that there is already a little pieces of salt on pad/table or spectators should stay far from the table. Bc if it’s all clean and suddenly after that push salt will fall out a little bit it would be too clear for everyone what just happened. Anyway, I like this one the most as it is random. With other tricks my family was like: but you could play with cards between fingers! But with salt force it is clear that I’m not doing anything. I used Mis prediction card and salt force together and it had such a cool effect

  • The only problem is that my dad is too smart and he keeps on choosing the bottom card ;-; so those fore don’t work (many tricks don’t work aswell because of this ex. Mind reading) You might be saying : yes, but if he only picks bottom, you need to know what is the bottom card.. WRONG, my dad knows what is the bottom card because he shuffles the deck before i start my tricks

  • My favorite wasn’t on here. Cut. Cut deeper. 1. Person asked to take anywhere from 5 to 10 cards from top and place face up on rest of cards which are in opposite direction (face down). 2. Now pick 20 to 30 cards and turn them over and place on top of remaining face down cards. Volunteer is asked to riffle through face up cards until reaching first face down card. Turn over and it’s the Ace of ckubs (or whatever forced card that started out on top). I do like your Cut cards and mark by crossing. I’m all thumbs so can not extrapolate too much more from your article other than trying salt as a novelty. I will search for a 3rd Old reliable (need to check my old notes for a forgotten gem that I probably like).

  • lay out 6 cards 3 cards on top and 3 underneath. The forced card is in the 3rd position or the top right. Have volunteer roll di. Giant di or fancy silver or gold preferred as misdirection. If you have no di, tell them pick a number 1 to 6. One. Spell. O N E. 3rd position. T W O 3rd position. 3 Duh!!!! 4. Do a reverse count in a natural manner starting with bottom right and ending in 3rd position. 5. Start at bottom right and end at 2nd top. Say one card was not counted so that is their card. 6. S I X. This only works if you only do one force for that particular group.

  • Hi Mr. ferguson my name is kai and I’m using my sister’s account right now and I’m one of your biggest fan.. I really love the way you do tricks and I’ve already done some of your tricks to my friends and they were really amazed I’ve already given them your name so that they could also see your tricks.. what I really want to try is your card tricks but I don’t have any cards and I really like your cards please send me atleast one of your pack of cards.. I’m from philippines so I would really appreciate it if you would hear me out with my request. Ps if you’re reading this thank you for having a sec to read my comment. Salamat(thank you) sensei.

  • Incredible! I am mostly self taught but i’ve learned a lot from this article. I would love to win your deck of cards. Also if you are interested in doing a show at the University of Michigan Hospital please get in contact with me. They love the little tricks I do but man you could really do some magical damage. Either way thank you for the knowledge.

  • look up in YouTube articles search engines penn and teller cruel tricks for dear friends and penn and teller don’t try this at home penn and teller off the deep end secrets of wrestling finale revealed secrets of street magicians finale revealed valtino the masked magician magical Burger King comercials

  • you could also do a false shuffle, bringing their card to the bottom of the deck. Have the cut the deck. Take the top half and put it down and criss cross the bottom half on top of the first half. And then saying ” would you be surprised that where you cut the cards, is the exact place where your card is?”

  • I got interested in card magic like two months ago and ur articles amuses me sometimes scares me until after d tutorial. i knw am not eligible for giveaways(because of my location) but where can i get good playing cards, d cards over here are very bad. They get wrinkled easily i have to change them every week, and its impossible to learn some tricks with them.

  • your such a legend, ive struggled with forcing cards ever since i started four years ago, i stopped but not im back 🙂 thankyou chris ramsay for all your tutorials! as you say using other peoples tricks is like using tracing paper but these simple beauties have helped make my style actually worth while and not just card juggling haha!!!

  • Hey awesome work. Been cutting cards for about 3 months and I just learned something new!!!! I like it when the force card is on top, you kiddy cut and grab a break above the force. Then dribble. I have the spectator or would like the spectator to take the force too. Have them put it back- grab a break and pass the card to the top. Cheers mate! Great vids great attitude… Great teaching style 😎

  • You can always tell how practiced someone is by how they handle the cards in between the important moments. That is to say, even if I could perform these forces perfectly, in between the important bits I would be fumbling slightly with the cards while he is almost negligently smooth, because his muscle memory is so strong and fluid handling cards. It’s impressive.

  • nice one man. thanks. I’ve been tinkering with something very similar to the last one you taught and you totally just solved my problem with it. It’s the tapping the deck together so the force seems natural. I was trying to push it off as a double and then cull it to the bottom. got any controls you rely on? these were great.

  • Good article. I have used that last force in some of my tricks I invented. I invented a move that is almost like that but it is a swap. I slide the top card off so it is hidden in my palm then fan the cards over my palmed card, and ask them to say stop. once they stop me I can flip the top fanned part of deck over, to show them the card that they actually chose with out showing the palmed card, then I turn the fan back over and secretly slide the palmed card under the card they chose so their card is no longer at the bottom. The effect is almost the same as a double lift but done from the bottom of the deck. They will swear that the bottom of the cut is their card, but it is not.

  • Which force is my favorite? Easily the cull force, because if a layman wants you to select a card, they’d spread through the cards like that. Also, I do something else where I force the bottom card by sliding it laterally underneath the pack as I start to spread the cards. With some practice it is completely invisible.

  • I know this article was made 3 years ago but I just wanted to say that this article really helped me take my magic to the next level. the single greatest easy force in my opinion is a variation of the last force in this article where instead of taking the force card from the top, you peel it off the bottom while under the cover of the fan. this one also works great because you can very easily peek the bottom card between tricks.

  • Thanks for the vid. The second force is so genious omg 😀 love it. A tip for the third force. For me its a looooot easier if the force card is on the bottom and when you spred the cards you just shove it over the fan and force it. Pretty the same youre doin but without the casualties bringing the top to the bottom while doing the fan.

  • Hi Chris! ^_^ Good Day :). Thank you for making this articles. It really helps a lot to me :). Im from Philippines and I want to be a magician. We don’t have magic shops here or any magic training shop. And you helps and means a lot to me. Thank You very much for inspiring me :). Thank you Again and God Bless.

  • I’m not gonna lie. I’m getting sick of perusal Chris Ramsay. Why? Is it because his show is bad? Because he sucks? It’s because he is the only one who DOESN’T suck. His show is the only show about current events, updates (old and new), that’s NOT bad. I’ve looked. He appears to be the only one worth perusal. Huge fan of you Chris, and your work, and work ethic.

  • I prefer the JC Wagner Slip Cut Riffle Force, which I find so much easier and just as deceptive. You can find it in Doc Eason’s Bar Magic tapes (no. 1), The Commercial Magic of JC Wagner, and many other places with a little bit of searching. Sorry I don’t have any public domain resources off the top of my head!

  • I know this is old but glad I saw this. I had a concept of force but now I have a better technique. Getting better and I love it. I’m around children alot And it helps get their attention. Plus I like how slight of hand stimulate s my brain. Specially cause I’m old. Thanks Mr. Ramsey for all you share

  • Love that subtlety on the riffle force, I’ll work on it. I am an amateur magician and the riffle force is my go-to. Laymen never expect anything, I just break on a card 2/3 or 3/4 the way down the deck, riffle slowly, they say stop and I lift to the break and kill my wrist so they can’t see the other packet. I feel like this little subtlety could allow me to be a little less sneaky about it, if that’ll improve my performance.

  • I’d just liket o say thank you for your articles. I’ve always had like an anxiety thing where the only way i can feel comfortable is if i’m playing with something in my hands. So i’ve always had a deck of playing cards that i just take out of my pocket and shuffle them whenever i’m getting ready for a work shift (I work in a very busy bar). A couple of weeks a go a few customers asked me if i knew any “tricks” i said no i’m not a magician but i knew about two. But thanks to you and your articles i have think i’ve found a new passion and a love for cards in general so thank you very much. TL;DR You helped turn my anxious tick into a passion.

  • The third one is pretty cool. I’ve done it succesfully a few times. It’s easy, but you have to practice and make sure that your audience isn’t all around you as it makes it that much harder to hide what you’re doing. I saw another force which is to put the force card on bottom, then ask the other person to split the deck somewhere around the middle. Then place the two halfs on top of eachother with a 90 degree angle. The bottom part of the deck on top of the top part. Then you divert attention by talking a bit and doing some “measurements” to see if the two decks are fairly even or some nonsense. Then, when revealing what card they picked, you turn over the bottom half (which is on top, but hopefully they forgot) instead of the top half. If done correctly, it can work, but some people really keep staring at “their card” which makes it a bit dangerous.

  • I always hated the riffle force, because most of the time I’ve seen it they just close the riffle and open at the break, seemed too obvious to me that they were ignoring the stop. The convincer you add with clearly opening THEIR break before tilting the deck and picking it up at YOUR break makes it a thousand times better. Not sure if you came up with that convincer or where you learned it but I wish everyone who used the riffle force did it that way.

  • The only card I have that is a different color than my regular deck is the 3 of spades at the moment. So, I’m trying to do a color change, and I need to force the 3 of spades. I click on your article…and your force card is the 3 of spades. You gotta show me how you did that one, 4 years before I searched this. Incredible.

  • I really like this article because force is one of the most powerful skills that you can use to create tons and tons of different moves. You can say that you see through things, see the future, or like you read ppls mind. As far as your imagination goes, knowing how to perfectly perform a force can be your strongest trick.

  • So, I’d just like to say thank you for all the tutorial articles that you have done, and thank you for all the times where you have just talked to us about magic. It is so inspiring and I love to watch your articles. As a young magician myself it, has helped me so much to go out and just give people a good show. In fact, I am planning on using my magic to help tell bible stories to the younger children at my church, and you are helping me with that. Thank you so much for what you have been doing here you are a true inspiration to all of us.
