Paper checks are an effective and inexpensive tool for moving money, but they are less commonly used due to the rise of electronic payments. It is important to fill out a check accurately and without mistakes to ensure the check will be valid.

There are five mandatory steps to writing out a paper check:

  1. Write the date in the top right corner of your check. This is so that the bank and the person you’re paying know when the check was written.

In summary, writing a check is a crucial process that requires accurate and legible information. By following these steps, you can ensure that your check is valid and sent to the right recipient.

  • I don’t understand all the comments about “if only they taught this in school” and “why do I have to go to YouTube to learn important things like this?”. For one thing, how to write a check was in my math book, so, at least some curriculums are teaching this. Also, the check IS the tutorial! It literally spells out each step for you! Everyone knows (probably from filling out homework, or, at least job/college applications) that the word DATE, with a line after is where you put the current day’s date. The rest is just as self explanatory!
