  • The reason there were so many incidents of shoplifting is because they think that this departmental store is an easy target . Now that they are caught they now know you cannot mess around with this store, because once the Police bust you, your life is over. My mother taught me never to steal a pin that doesn’t belong to me. If you go to someone’s house, always sit where everyone can see you, don’t go into anyone’s room without anyone along with you. If you want something I’ll give you money, in case we don’t have any money, then live life without it, but never Rob or steal.

  • They should all have pictures on stores wall of shame by entrance door. Court need to do better to deter this epidemic preventable crime …..get rid of max 1 grand of products, give comp rights to arrest instead employees watch helplessly, cowardice comp won’t hire security so us shoppers pay price, with hassles of stuffs locked up .

  • Since they don’t have SSN and are student, their DSO(every college/university that takes international student has a DSO) will be notified. He will go through the case details and create a record in the student database. They will be probably expelled from the university. The next step for them would be to submit a consideration plea to the president/dean of the university and from there on it will be upto the university panel if they want to give these students a second chance to continue their studies or else they would have to leave the US as their student visa will get void after 2 weeks from the date it was reported to their DSO.

  • It’s very saddening to see how a golden opportunity to study and make a great fortune has gone down the drain for these 2 girls….Looks like they haven’t understood the serious repercussions of their action. Their unapologetic attitude, zero regret, exhibition of arrogance by offering to pay double and saying henceforth they would abstain from entering the store etc. demonstrates the wrong/ cheap tricks tried back home in India.

  • I’m practically been homeless before living off a friend’s couch selling my playstation for gas money to get my kid for the weekend and making sure I had food for him. Thankfully I’m not there anymore but even in that low point I need even stole a Snickers bar. These people have money and they still steal I don’t get it.

  • Omg the girls are very ignorant or pretending to be ignorant..the way the girls talk over each other and the officer.. They thought it was their andhra telengana with emandi cheppandi… Uncle sam is very angry now.. Sad that they are from our country but dont represent majority of indians who are hardworking and honest

  • Probably they thought it was fun after successfully shoplifting for first time or they were told by their seniors that it is easy to shoplift and there will be no consequences…whatever the reason maybe can’t imagine how shameful their parents will feel back home if they came across this article…Work hard guys and live with dignity

  • I have friends who are Indian and they are nice, humble people. Petty theft is a common crime that’s committed by every nationality, every day. I’m not saying that I condone it, only that there are way more serious crimes than petty theft and this doesn’t mean to judge the entire Indian population from it. Hopefully these ladies learn this time though. 🙏✌️

  • Sometimes its supermarkets which place items for sale up to the doorway..past the payment area….and people may instinctively push their trolleys PAST the payment line and be accused as taking things out without payment..So best to leave tge trolley near the payment counter..walk to the items you want and carry those back to the trolley..Since the items in the trolley is not paid for ..it can stay unattended INSIDE..the before-payment area..even if some one else takes the items from the trolley its alright…as you have not paid for it..thebitems are just in a trolley within the payment area..and at most you loose the item from your trolley..or groery list…so dont get into a situation like this..

  • When someone is talking you don’t cut them off and she dont understand when she said I have an ID college id but the officer didn’t ask for that and she said can you leave us?I don’t know where did get the audacity to speak to an officer like that? This is not your country and respect the law.Remember when you go to Rome act like what Romans do

  • I watched this at least twice; it’s a 50 – 50. They might not be shoplifting and it’s an honest mistake as the staff too acknowledge that they do have big Pepsi bottles beyond the billing area which also itself is stupid. I mean how is a customer supposed to get that billed. Also, the officers didn’t give the chance to girls to speak up. Imagine being in a foreign country and mistaken for theft and being called liars and thieves. South Indian females are usually quite soft-spoken and polite.

  • Hey, we Indians, especially those commenting on this so-called scam, I would really appreciate it if they could show the same enthusiasm when our politicians scam us in India. Likewise, the US police should take strict action against gun violence and other common crimes across the nation, as they have done in this instance.

  • For everyone going off at the comment section. Its just an arrest and a tresspass, they have not been proven guilty of the charges yet. For someone who has come to US from a third world country, the rules with self checkout etc are different. These students seems like they are new to US on student visa and they seems to have remained calm, as they thought they were going to be just fine, as they didn’t do anything wrong. Walking out of the security barrier to pick up items which is exhibited outside it not a crime, but they should’ve paid for the items they had in the trolley. I am suspecting they were not paying for the items together and one person paid for the things she got and the other person wanted to pay for the rest of the stuff and probably wanted to pick up the Pepsi which was kept outside as most stores. Its easy to blame and shame people. Most students pay a lot of money to come to the country legally to student to be engineers, doctors and software engineers. Their parents send them money to live off during their student days, they don’t need to steal 50$ groceries like rest of the americans or illegal immigrants. So Calm down with the hate and lets see what the judge says.

  • This article should be shown to young Indians leaving India. I’m an Indian (not from India), last few years after students arrived from India in my country, I noticed when buying grocery’s, there is always someone following you, and at the self-service checkout someone is always beside you. Now i know why??embarrassing.

  • To every new desi student who feels as hritik roshan in dhoom 2 or allu arjun in pushpa just by doing such scams or shoplifitng as fun just ti share these with your friends as proud achivements. Real world is different never risk your lives over some 5 or 10 dollars or to share some self boasting stories to friends.

  • In India many such crimes are manageable by using caste, relgion names etc. immediately the political brokers enter in to the field and arrage dubious ways of compromise. Even the watchman/ guard will be bribed to hush up. Even if police are called most of them look for personal gains rather than intilligently tracking the case and taking it logical ends. That does not mean indian laws are weak. We have excellent policing also which exceptionally act rightly. I am not a traitor. With shame and humiliation i am putting the reality. We indians inherited a worst culture and become hypocrites and easy offenders. We love our castes and religions more than our country

  • It makes PERFECT SENSE … they forgot to buy Pepsi, so paid for 2 items (to not to hold the line and the checkout cash register, which I hate when people do) and as they were grabbing Pepsi near the door, the security nabbed them … LET THEM GO and find the actual REAL thieves … how idiotic this theft catching system is … my GOD !

  • I don’t know if they had committed the crime (as the court verdict is not shared), but what disturbs me is the issue of privacy violation by making body cam footage public. I also sense an extra ordinary enthusiasm that borders hatred. Talking about their pyjamas, their age, their country etc. I can see many people commenting deport, deport, deport . . . Professionalism of the cops are commendable minus the leak of bodycam footage.
