Ultimate Magus is a spellcasting class that allows players to gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level as if they had also gained a level in their arcane spellcasting class with the lowest caster level. This is a steep cost, but it provides some benefits, such as having a reserve of low-level spell slots. The Wizard CL boosts by 10 over the course of 10 levels, resulting in a Wizard CL of 19 at level 21 (18 at level 20, giving you 9th).
Learning new spells is expensive and time-consuming, requiring an expenditure of gold equal to the spell’s level. At 1st, 4th, and 7th level, players gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level. They can choose two arcane spells of equal level, one from a spontaneous casting source and one from a divine casting source. These spells function as normal except for the fact that they are not available at all levels.
When leveling up in Ultimate Magus, players gain a casting level to both their wizard and sorcerer class, meaning they get new spells and can cast higher levels. Most Magus’s defensive buffs are illusions, so they can still be used with spell combat. However, they should rely on the bard list as the Magus doesn’t have a lot of options.
Understanding new spells is a spontaneous class, but there is no Loredelver spell, so it gains no actual level. Wizard/Druid is the quickest path to Ultimate Magus, and it allows players to still get 9th level spells in at least one of the classes. Precocious Apprentice does not fulfill spell level requirements to qualify for things like PrCs.
