An electric fence works by delivering electrical energy from a power source to an electric fence as a pulse. When an animal touches the electric fence, it receives a shock, acting as a psychological barrier. To install an electric fence, set up an electric charger near an AC outlet or a solar charger in a sunny spot. Install at least one grounding post that’s 12 inches deep.
The Speedrite S1000 is a 1.0 J solar energizer that powers up to 40 miles or 140 acres of electric fencing. It includes an internal rechargeable 12 volt, 7 Ah SLA battery and fence leads. The typical output voltage is 12 volts. To install an electric fence, encase high-quality, double insulated underground cable in a polythene pipe and bury at least 12 inches deep.
In dry or sandy soil, drive the rods into the soil up to 300 mm (12″) and turn on the energizer. Use a digital voltmeter to measure the fence voltage. Drive the rods into the ground at a depth of 6 to 7 feet using galvanized ground rods and galvanized wire. Temporary electric fencing can help increase production by providing a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to subdivide paddocks.
When the selector switch is set to Battery Test, the energizer pulses at slow speed (2.5 seconds between pulses) and the fence is live.
