Okay, let me remember u that Toneri’s Tenseigan was unstable meaning he didn’t had full control of it, basically he did the same thing that Frieza did when he got the Golden form and went to fight Goku without mastering the form, to put it short, since the Tenseigan was to powerful that when Toneri used full power (chakra mode to be specific) he lost control of the Tenseigan making it to reject and not hold it as he pleased. Basically, he can’t use it cause he didn’t master it completely. It’s like u can’t give a great responsibility to someone who isn’t responsible.
Kakashi said that the Byakugan was superior to the Sharingan. But we really don’t see the Byakugan do much except for great vision of chakra flows and around the user also access to the gentle fist. But the Sharingan has abilities like being able to predict movement and copying ninjitsu as well as decent vision improvements. The series states that the Byakugan is a better version of the Sharingan, but I feel like it’s the opposite and that they’re totally different. And we’re talking about the regular Sharingan not even the Mangekyo Version which has crazy abilities such as amaterasu, susanoo, infinite tsukuyomi, kamui, enhanced regular Sharingan powers, and so much more.
So basically tenseigan can be achieved by those otsuki members who implant eyes of the hyuga clan. Hamura otsuki’s descendants were on the moon, but some of them stayed back on earth (the hyuga clan) so it is safe to say the hyuga clan members obtained the byakuyan while the other descent that left for moon had otsuki bloodline? But in movie it says the descents on moon also had byakuyan? They removed it at early age and put it inside some secret weapon… If that didn’t happen, then they would just take each others byakuyan and obtain the tenseigan… Correct me if im wrong
All i can guess at this point is that the Tenseigan do in fact possess a ocular power, similar (if not identical) to the Rinnengan’s gravity pulls and force field of mass destruction. What i realised (in the movie itself) are several things: Sadly, i wish i could explain what is a “pure” byakugan…moving on! 1. Imma start with the way Naruto, Hinata, Sai, Sakura and Shikamaru went to the moon or rather…get themselves inside of it? That same way may actually take some part in future episodes of Boruto. 2. Did you noticed how the cloak around Toneri’s arms was gone? That proves further more that Kurama Sage Mode (KSM for short) is indeed stronger than anything ordinary but at the same time – considered to be weaker than some other things. For example, Eye-hand consuming ability, granted by a rinnengan genuanly made onto a Otsotsuky’s arms. That thing could easily suck all of Naruto’s power, IF he was not prepared for that period to come! 3. Naruto and Hinata are either The Best ninja couple like…EVER, and the cutest one so far! (this is undeniable) 4. That core at the centre of the moon had to be destroyed by someone with Hamura’s and Hagoromo’s power. (Which leads me towards a darker thought that we didnt noticed sooner than before) 5. Boruto and Himawari and currently with Hagoromo and Hamura power, COMBINED! I have a question I’ve been wanting to know for a long time. Why was Naruto’s Rasengan and Rasenshuriken yellow in the movie Naruto: The Last? I think it’s because he puts Kurama’s chakra just as how he makes the Magnet Release: Rasengan with Shukaku’s chakra And last question… How could Naruto leave Kurama alone in a Kyubi Chakra Mode while fighting Toneri’s monster and then minutes later, Kurama stopped being in Chakra Mode and reverted to his normal tailed beast form… HOW??
I assume that toneri’s eyes reverted back into a byakugan because he ran out of chakra like how sasuke’s rinnegan looses the tomoe when he runs out of chakra and toneri’ eyes would have recovered into the tenseigan when he regained his chakra but the eyes where implanted back into hannabi so they never received any more otsutsuki chakra and remained byakugan
So this is not cannon but some guy made a naruto d&d and with it you have class mods. Classes that don’t require any xp but are extremely hard to level up and you need to meet certain requirements to get them, one of these mods is the Tenseigan. With this mod it’s for the Hyuga clan and kinda acts like a warlock class, basically with every level you gain a weakness but also gain great power. These weakness could small like not having any shame to literally forgoing your entire family or even having disadvantages (roll twice take the lowest) on all of your skills. And it’s by 4th or 5th level of this mod that the tensaigan actually stays permanently unless a seal jutsu of a or higher is used to seal it.
Because the jinchuriki of the ten tales is the vessel of the otsutsuki and as such it should also be mentioned that the only reason why madara and obito had them was because for the most part the could manipulate light and darkness chakra which were essentially untouchable for even the most exceptional of ninja. It would be more accurate to say that the tenseigan allowed access to those natural chakras.
I think it’d be cool to make the Tenseigan relevant again by eventually giving them to Himawari in the future. Maybe add a middle stage as well. The fact they’re now dealing with so many Otsutsuki why not give Naruto’s other child some degree of op power just like Boruto. Plus it would finally buff up the Byakugan some more to be more in line with the other two great Dojutsu. I also wish they found a way to make Ketseyrugan not a one off thing. Idk it’s just a bit bullshit to just leave it where they left it. Plus I never understood how the Uchiha and Chinoike clan could go extinct like they did when a few members here and there would’ve probably boinked a couple villagers here and there when out in missions or travelling. There should be people with dormant Sharingan and Ketseyrugan just living their lives not knowing of their heritage. Some would probably get into shinobi work and probably find out by awakening them. And there’s only so much clan rules againts out of wedlock children can do. When out on a mission which Uchiha probably did and travelling which Uchiha probably did there wasn’t much in place preventing them from just boinking people. Like it is just hard to believe clan members with these Dojutsu just didn’t boink people here and there outside the clan. Doing that that instead of the Shin clones would’ve been better story wise imo. Like I can believe the Hyuga not spreading their Dojutsu by accident cuz they seem strict enough to place basically an eye bomb on their Branch members but they never said anything about the Uchiha if I’m not mistaken and much less about the Chinoike.
If I had to guess tensagon that tanari used was not a natural tensagon, probably he made it up and all his powers are non from the eyse those eyes were his focus to control the moon’s core that’s just a 10 tails level chakra battary so that similar to a Biju and his overpower form was because of the sacrifice of his whole race
I always thought the Rinnegan being a combination of the Sharingan and the Byakugan would have made much more sense; The whole Indra and Ashura reincarnation story was unecessary and practically only there to give more importance to Hashirama and to give the Uchiha all of the toys yet again (After all if that was the case it would mean sharing the glory with the Hyuga). As you said this seems like it was an attempt to throw the Byakugan a bone but he just lazily copy-pasted Naruto’s endgame powers for it and didn’t fucking go anywhere; Its like he genuinely didnt remember that the Hyuga clan existed until he finished the manga and realized he couldnt just kill Hinata like he killed Neji and call it a day.
I have a theory that in The last: Naruto the movie Toneri implanted something in Hinata that would make her future child have the jougan (or whatever eye Boruto has) because he thought she would have a child with him and not Naruto and that this something is really powerful but then it failed and that child is now Boruto. I don’t know if it makes sense tho
so in regards to its ocular power, based on how its thought that the eyes can restore an entire planet if destroyed, I’m thinking that they function similar to crazy diamond from JJBA part 4, in that it can restore something that it sees back to a previous state. Also in regards to the weird power buff, I’m assuming that like how the Rinnegan is often considered a Six paths buffed Sharringan, that the Tenseigan is a six paths chakra buffed byakugan, thus why users of the eyes can make use of the chakra mode and the TSOs. of course this is just speculation but its what I can accurately guess based on what I’ve seen/ read. finally I don’t think the tenseigan is actually gone from the eyes, but the power needed to activate it and sustain it isn’t present, similar to how the sharringan originally had a high chakra cost to maintain constantly.
You got two things wrong 1. The hyuga are descendants of homura’s moon shinobi so they can use the tenseigan if they have a close relation to homura. 2. Toneri lost his eyes because he is an Otsutsuki, the Otsutsuki have a creed that whoever defeats them that is the person they give up their power to. So toneri lost which means that naruto essentially has the tenseigan but hasn’t awakened it because of his lack of homura’s blood.
alright so i was thinking about kaguya getting sealed by the sage of six paths and his younger brother and turned into the moon so if toneri(idk how to spell his name) cut the moon in half doesn’t that mean he cut kaguya in half since kaguya should be in the middle of the moon, unless kaguya already got summoned out of the moon.
The donjutusu works opposite of the infinite tsukyomi, in that the user creates what they will around them. Like the izanagi and izanami, this eye seems to be much like genjutsu made reality. He possibly had the cloak based on his own image of his ancestors or he looked at nsurto and was like, that shit looks cool i want one because the Hinata will love me. Because that was his whole toxic thing, he wanted to replace naurto and have all that naurto had to get Hinata, which I dont blame him because Hinata us hot. But the whole idea to reality thing is shown when he creates cages, creature and giant swords things that can cut the moon in half by just coming up with them. The reason his eyes disappeared wasn’t just because he lost but and it reverted back like the sharingan does when a user passes out or gets beat up until they are exhausted. But also if I remember correctly it had some harmony with all those eyes and some treasure thing and still wasn’t complete yet. But thats what the eyes do, they allow the user to bend reality and create pretty much what ever their minds can muster as long as they have chakra for it. The biggest odd thing is the lack of byakugan abilities. I mean maybe they were there…I doubt it, seems like everyone in that clan has them but doesn’t use them that well or what ever idk that part is dumb.

Implied Sage Transformation – The way the Tenseigan dōjutsu and the Tenseigan “Energy Vessel” device function implies that they accumulate Nature Energy from their surroundings and even solar energy from the sun, making it similar to Jugo’s / Kabuto’s / Mitsuki’s Sage Transformation (仙人化 Senninka) ability. This is more explicit in the novelization, but neither source outright confirms it. 4. Chakra Absorption and Chakra Implanting – Toneri was able to steal a large portion of Naruto’s chakra and was also able to implant an orb of chakra into Hinata which caused her to come under his control. 5. Inorganic Animation and Manipulation – According to the novel, all of Toneri’s puppets were powered and controlled by energy produced by the Tenseigan Energy Vessel. Toneri was able to animate the stone statue of Hamura, turning it into a kind of golem. He was also able to turn Hinata herself into a mindless puppet that fights for him. These all may be related to Nature Energy, as Kabuto’s Sage Art: Inorganic Animation had similar functions. 6. Tenseigan Chakra Mode – An advanced chakra mode roughly equivalent to Kurama Six Paths Sage Mode, which initially produced Truth-Seeking Orbs.
The tenseigan gives one all five chakra natures, yin release, yang release and yin yang release as well as six paths senjutsu since naruto had to use sage mode with nine tails chakra mode stacked on top to destroy the truth seeking orbs. This puts the tenseigan at the spot of second strongest dojutsu to exist, only being slightly weaker than the rinne sharingan. To me the tenseigan beats the rinnegan on a base level by far cuz it gives six paths senjutsu and a chakra mode.
Maybe Toneri wanted Hanabi’s eyes specifically because she was Hinata’s full blooded sibling. You get half your DNA from each parent and depending on which combination of alleles or chromosomes you get from each parent can determine if you are genetically closer to you sibling than your parents, meaning you can be anywhere from a 0% or 100% match. Since both of Hinata’s parent are Hyuuga and both were most likely from the main branch of the clan, it can be said that Hinata’s parent most likely had close blood relations. This would almost guarantee that both Hinata and Hinabi are a genetically closer match with each other than with either of their parents. Toneri wanted to recreate humanity in his and Hinata’s image, so maybe he wanted the Hyuuga eyes he needs transplanted to be as close a genetical match to Hinata as possible to avoid mixing any outside factors when recreating humanity.
It’s possible that Boruto could get the Jougan and Tenseigan mixed since he does have a good portion of Momoshiki inside him after he defeated Momoshiki so it’s possible Momoshiki just like Kurama in Naruto Momoshiki could lend a good chunk of his Chakra to Boruto therefore giving Boruto a mix between The Jougan and Tenseigan therefore creating a very Op Dojutsu that can be very competitive with the Mangekyo Sharingan and even the Rinnegan itself.

I know this is an old article…but Tenseigan from a naming perspective clearly being a parallel to Rinnegan, since both of them comes from a word Chinese and Japanese sometimes used and recognized, originally a concept from buddhism. 轮回转生（in Chinese） or 輪廻(romaji: Rinne)転生(romaji: Tensei), basically means ‘reincarnation & rebirth’, when people pass on to the next life, they should be first rebirth(Tensei/転生) to something else, could be a person again but not guaranteed (depends on how bad you behave as a person in last life, you could end up being a plant or wild animal or even worse such as livestocks that probably gonna going on a third rebirth/tensei/転生 pretty soon), then this cycle repeats itself, and people call this cycle “reincarnation” or rather “Rinne/輪廻”. both Rinne and Tensei can be used separately just like their English translation counterparts but they usually associates with each other, it’s an idiom pretty common in Japan and China. It’s also the reason that Nagato’s “Rinne Tensei no justu”(it writes differently as ‘輪廻天生の術’ but reads the same) is a thing in the first place. So there’s no way Tenseigan is MS or EMS’s equal but an equal to Rinnegan. Since I talked about Nagato… his Shinra Tensei and Bansho Tenin is another one. In Shinra “Tensei” part, it writes different again as 天征 instead of 転生 or 天生, but the first part of “Shinra” tensei and “Bansho” tenin can join together again just like the “Rinne-Tensei”. Shinra-Bansho or 森羅万象 is also an idiom in buddhism, it means “everything and everyone in this big world”, Kishimoto just separate the word and add some more to make it sounds cooler.
So i have a theory, Toneri stole hanabis byakugan because they were “pure” now in boruto his new dojutsu is called the Jougan which means pure eye, could it be that in order to get a true tenseigan they would need an eye like Boruto, this could explain why it took so long for the tenseigan to manifest and why they the dojutsu just vanished.

Rinnegan is still better in my opinion. With it ninjutsu becomes useless, can literally bring the dead back to life, create planetoid objects like the moon itself, summon meteorites, summon the Gedo Mazo and its dragon-like entity, can read minds instantly, grip a persons soul out, become inivisible through Animal Paths summon and has its special abilities like Limbo which can’t be countered even by the Tenseigan (it may be able to touch them with the TSB but it doesn’t give the wielder the ability to pin-point them or see when and from where they are attacking) or in Sasuke case instant shift between spaces and travel through space-time. The strongest feat of splitting the (hollow) moon in half can be absorbed with the Rinnegan. The jutsu is afterall thrown chakra which can be absorbed. It may be stronger destruction wise but that’s all.
That’s what happens when you have the main character in the title. The thing is I kinda feel bad for the hyuga clan because it not there fault that their weak the show is called naruto so we don’t have Time to explore other clans we are talking about his story so that means a lot of characters are going to be wasted. that’s why I don’t do the whole hate train like half of the fandom.

Sarada will definitely get a mangekyo from one of her friends dying like one of those girls. MANGA SPOILERS: Based off of chapter 39 where we learned that both Boruto and Kawaki are becoming Otsutsuki’s does that mean that Boruto will have the capabilities to unlock the Tenseigan because he is already a Hyuga and is becoming an Otsutsuki. Or lets say Hinata somehow dies and Boruto transplant her eyes into his would he be able to awaken the Tenseigan since he is a Pseudo-Otsutsuki?

I never understood how a watered down Byakugan could power up an Otsutsuki. The Hyuga and their chakra are just derivatives of the Otsutsuki themselves. At least with the Uchiha, its like multiplication. But if an Otsutsuki does it with a Hyuga, it’s like adding a negative number to a positive number. It doesn’t make sense. Would’ve made more sense if it was a Hyuga taking an Otsutsuki’s Byakugan and getting the Tenseigan.

Thank you for the breakdown 🤯 When you think about it, Hanabi on earth was the equivalent of the main branch on the moon, Toneri was the side branch on the moon, he could have used Hinata’s eyes instead, but then his “wife” wouldn’t have had eyes if his plan succeeded.. Share an eye, 1 for each perhaps?.. That’ll be funny to see..Would have been Kakashi and Obito gone wrong! At least Kakashi still had his other eye Bahaha 🤣 “Epiphany alert” So the power of the tenseigan acts exactly the same as the divine tree? Instead of using the 10 tails as a power source to bring forth the divine tree, the tenseigan uses the power of the byakugan eyes with the moon as the grounding point?! Or does the 10 tails husk still play a vital role in the tenseigan’s activation since we all found out it was sealed away on the moon?? Hmmm.. Where did they seal Kaguya away after the war?! Her and Toneri chilling together somewhere 😅
They need to redo Naruto the last. The plot was ridiculous to me but it was still somewhat entertaining with the introduction of another doujutsu. The changes I would make is giving toneri the tenseigan by birth right as a direct descendant of hamura (none of that eye transfer bs). And definitely erase the whole wanting to marry Hinata bs. His reasoning for destroying the earth can remain the same with some additional reasoning. Starting with man’s misuse of chakra which allowed kaguya to awaken being #1. Then his assumptions lead him to believe if they continued to use chakra as a tool of conflict it would more than likely happen again. As well as their use of the tailed beasts as weapons being a contradiction to why they were created by hagaromo. Therefore to stop man and further otsutsuki interference with the earth he decides to destroy it before otsutsuki can plant another God tree or man’s misuse of chakra brings a greater threat (kaguya) back to life or a full otsutsuki invasion. Which leads you right back to where the storyline is currently headed.
When I saw that Otsutsuki’s have Byakugan, I really hoped that writers would give it some well deserved spotlight. Perhaps even go so far to explain some of Tenseigan abilities that Toneri didn’t unlock. Insted of that Momoshiki and Urashiki have same old Rinnengan that they don’t use to their full potential.
I hope the Tenseigan gets re-introduced into the story by letting Hanabi awaken it, since her eyes were used for it anyway. It would also finally give the Hyuga their long overdue portrail. If the Otsutsuki invade earth in the future, Toneri, who’s an ally to earth, should be brought in from the moon to provide intel on them and to train Boruto, Hanabi, Hinata and maybe Himawari. The powergap between an Otsutsuki and earths shinobi is huge, the only ones to stand a chance are Naruto, Sasuke and likely Boruto late in the series. There would also be conflict between Boruto’s parents who’d be in favor of Toneri training Boruto, while Hanabi and Hiashi as his biggest victims would be against it. Boruto likely would be the deciding factor and he’d agree to the training which would show his maturity and his family’s bonds would grow stronger after the initial strife. All that could be handled great by the anime, with good voice acting and music etc. Also, Boruto’s eye is stated to be stronger than the Tenseigan so there isn’t the problem of him getting outshone by Hanabi for long if she were to get the Tenseigan. Toneri’d get redeemed for being a meh villain as well. The writers wouldn’t need to use asspulls that way to make Boruto’s gen on par with the Otsutsuki.
i know you have read the manga, i also know that you aren’t delusional like Seth, a great source to Naruto fans to learn many things about Naruto lore, but with all due respect it was never said that Byakugan was superior to Sharingan as a whole, Kakashi talked about power of an insight. i know this is small detail, but there are many delusional casual or non casual fans who search for misconceptions to highlight their bullshit argument.
There are so many idiots. The Rinnegan and the Sharingan (including Mangekyō and Eternal Mangekyō) are stronger than Hyūga related dojutsu. There are others who say the Jōgan is better than the Sharingan and its other forms. The Jōgan is powerful but the Sharingan is way better. The Uchiha are also descendants of the Otsutsuki, like the Senju, Uzumaki, Hyūga, Otsutsuki (of the moon) and the Kaguya clan, but the Uchiha has superior dojutsu than the Hyūga.
I’ve seen people on other comment threads questioning how Boruto will take out Isshiki, especially in Kawaki’s body considering that a nerfed Isshikki had just done bodied both Naruto and Sasuke (two of the strongest shinobi’s) with ease. Well my awnser to that is: 1.He has the jougan, a dojutsu stated by someone working on the anime to be stronger than the tenseigan (don’t exactly rememember who). 2. He has a Karma, which has already been stated to be essential in a defeating Jigen by Koji himself. Going off of what Jigen showed, it’s possible that Boruto can access a second stage, which will drastically amp his physicals to absurd lvl’s. I can definitely see Boruto surpassing Naruto/Sasuke with these abilities.

Great article man but I have to say what u said about kakashi claiming the Byakugan was superior to the sharrigan isn’t exactly true what he said was from a practicality stand point it was superior he said in a non comabantat stand point it was superior the sharrigan even just the three tomoe one was still superior in combat to the Byakugan
This is just my own head canon but I believe the reason hanabi was used is because she like hinata are decendants of hamura from the main branch. The difference is that hanabi is still considered a child and in most cases children are considered pure. Add that with her unparalleled talent, she sounds like the perfect choice.
I remember when everyone thought Boruto had the Tenseigan despite his eye looking nothing like it and it being stated that only Otsutsuki can attain it. I actually miss those days of the crazy theories during the beginning of Boruto. Those were good times except for how toxic the fanbase was at the time.
