This free natal or birth chart report provides information on planetary positions, planet aspects, and house comparisons using the Whole Signs house system. The system differs from other astrology systems by considering the whole sign of the zodiac that contains the Ascendant as the first house. The following zodiac sign is the second house.
The Birth Chart Calculator (Whole Sign) lists various aspects of a birth chart, such as the Sun sign and Moon. The Whole Sign system considers the entire sign of the zodiac that contains the Ascendant as the first house, with the following zodiac sign being the second house.
Choosing between the Whole Sign system and the Placidus system is a key decision in interpreting an astrological chart. In the Whole Sign system, the Ascendant is located in the first house, regardless of its early position. In Placidus, Jupiter is in the 8th house, while in Whole Sign, it is in the 9th house.
The signs are divided into 12 equal chunks of 30 degrees, regardless of the house system used. Whole sign systems determine the mid heaven and ascendant based on time and place, but they are not tied to the cusps of the 10th and 1st houses.
In conclusion, the Whole Sign system offers a more coherent understanding of planetary positions, house systems, and areas of meaning in people’s lives.

Why is Placidus the default?
The Placidus system was initially popular in England due to its intricate mathematical nature. However, it subsequently became the de facto standard due to its straightforwardness in representing and reproducing it in tabular form.
Is Placidus the same as Vedic astrology?
Both Western and Vedic astrology divide birth charts into houses, determining meaning based on planets and signs. Western astrology uses the Placidus house system, while Vedic astrologers use the whole-sign system, where the first house belongs to the ascendant’s sign. Vedic astrology is more complex and may be more accurate and difficult to interpret for novices. Some believe that it provides more acute insights and practical knowledge due to the constant flux of the universe.

What is the full equal sign?
The equal sign, also known as the equality sign, is a mathematical symbol that indicates equality in a well-defined function. It is located between two expressions with the same value or for analyzing the conditions under which they have the same value. The equal sign means “is” or “is the same value as” and is not used to explain what the symbol means. In mathematics, the equal sign helps to mathematically show equality between two representatives, such as values, equations, or expressions written on both sides.
It is essential to understand how to verbalize or say accurate statements for this symbol. The equal sign is not used to explain what the symbol means, but rather to indicate that the two items are equal.
Why do people use whole sign houses?
The Whole Sign Houses (WSH) system is a popular tool in astrology that offers a visually elegant and simple way to visualize a chart in one’s head. The system aligns the signs with the houses, making it easier to understand the placement of planets in each sign and house. This aligned system allows for the interpretation of traditional sign rulers as rulers of the houses, which can provide insight into various aspects of life. For example, if a person is in the 3rd House, they can look to their ruler, Mars, to understand topics like communication, neighborhood, and siblings.
This Mars-like style can provide more nuanced insights into the planet’s manifestation and the themes of the house it rules. WSH is part of a larger philosophical framework that includes rulership, angularity, and traditional aspects, which are all integrated within the framework of WSH. Overall, WSH offers a more comprehensive and intuitive way to interpret astrological charts.
What is the whole sign equal house system?
The Whole Sign system, a form of house division in ancient astrology, may have originated in the Hellenistic tradition around the 1st or 2nd century BCE and may have passed to the Indian and early Medieval traditions. However, the line of thought linking it to India from Western locales is contested. The system fell into disuse in the western tradition by the 10th century, and by the 20th century, it was completely unknown in the western astrological community.
The distinction between whole sign houses and equal houses lies in the fact that in whole sign houses, the cusp of the 1st house is the beginning of the sign that contains the ascendant, while in equal houses, the degree of the ascendant is itself the cusp of the 1st house. There is debate surrounding the claims that whole sign houses was the original form of house division and that it was the dominant form among ancient astrologers.
One argument against whole sign houses is that it is never explicitly mentioned in any ancient astrologer’s text when explaining how to divide up the houses. Another argument is that it breaks with principles of primary motion since planets can go backwards through the houses. Additionally, there is concern that whole sign houses demotes the value of angularity.
In the equal house system, the ecliptic is divided into twelve divisions of 30 degrees, with the houses measured out in 30 degree increments starting from the degree of the ascendant. Proponents of the equal house system claim that it is more accurate and less distorting in higher latitudes than the Placidean and other quadrant house systems.
How do you figure out your full zodiac sign?
To create a birth chart, you need the date, time, and location of your birth. Use an online birth chart calculator like Cafe Astrology to fill out the form, which will display a circle-within-a-circle with numbers, astrological signs, and symbols. Focus on the sun, moon, and rising signs, which are the planets most influencing your personality. Then, consider the Houses, which represent different areas of our lives.

What is the difference between whole house and placidus?
The Placidus house division method is based on the concept of time and space, which results in unequal house sizes. In contrast, the whole sign method assigns each house to an entire zodiac sign, which affects house interpretations and astrological analysis.
What does whole signs mean?
The Whole Sign house system represents the earliest known form of house division, with a documented history spanning approximately a thousand years. In this system, the entire span of the zodiac sign that appears on the ascendant at birth is considered the first house.
What are my big 3 signs?
The “Big Three” (Sun, Moon, and Rising) are significant aspects of a birth chart, each describing a different aspect of an individual’s personality and life story. In order to ascertain the Big Three, one must utilize a birth chart calculator. This requires inputting the pertinent data, including the date, time, and location of birth. Thereafter, one can investigate the discrepancies between the three charts. This tool is designed to assist users in comprehending the nuances of their birth charts and the personal traits associated with them.
How to read charts in astrology?
Astrology charts provide insight into a person’s personality and life path by analyzing the planets’ appearance in the house and under which sign. Planets represent what one does and what drives them, while signs represent how they accomplish tasks. Houses indicate areas of growth or change. For example, a Uranus in Aries in the fourth house represents learning and growth, while Aries is associated with ambition, passion, and strong emotions. The fourth house is associated with home, family, and property, suggesting a passion for personal relationships and emotional investment in family.
How do you use the whole sign in astrology?
The whole sign house system is a method of house division that assigns the rising sign as the first house, with the rest of the houses assigned to each sign in zodiacal order. For example, if the Ascendant is in the zodiacal sign of Cancer, the entire sign becomes the first house. The degree of the Ascendant does not necessarily mark the beginning of the first house, but rather designates the sign that becomes the first house. The beginning of that sign acts as the cusp of the first house, even if the Ascendant is very late in the rising sign.

Recently switched to whole sign system as well.I find it much more accurate for my chart.Neptune and Uranus have moved from the 2nd to the 3rd and it all made sense.Saturn which never made sense for me in the 3rd moved to the 4th and had a revelation about my childhood and how it relates to my Moon now being in the 11th.Plus,Mars,Venus and Jupiter in Leo moved from the 9th to the 10 which makes so much more sense. From the way I’m perceived to what I dream of doing in life,my calling and sort of repressed desires.
Thank you so much from Norway ❤ My chart in plasidus I have a very big first house so it’s make huge difference with whole sign system! All my planets are moved into one or two houses further! In plasidus I have moon in first. ..Saturn in second . …sun and venus in 3th house and so on! In whole sign system my moon is placed in 3th house…Saturn in 4th house..Sun Venus in fifth for example! Whole sign system resonnate more with me! 💜
Thank you Kelly, having intercepted houses with my north and south node there I feel it’s better to keep the advancements and complexities of the modern astrology. For me has been really important and helpful to look at that fact which totally makes sense to me. Another two big placements shifting with whole signs are my moon in Scorpio in the 8th and Mercury in my 7th also so evidently that way either by how I behave and the events and people I tend to attract. I was curious to hear why you and some other astrologers who I follow use this, I’m thinking perhaps Placidus and whole sign could complement for looking at different issues. Saludos from Mexico!
I carry the energy of both houses, so for instance I have Saturn in both 5 and 6 at the same time, plac/WH. Which essentially means I’ll have Saturn in each house for approx 5-6 hrs instead of 2.5-3. It’s a double whammy. I just learned about whole signs and really hoping this just means the shared energy lessens the impact in each of the houses, like 50% less in each, fingers crossed. 80% of my chart is way. 😮😊
Hi Kelly! Thank you for this! When using house systems, should it be absolute? One system for all kinds of charts and techniques? I am at the moment dipping my toes into whole sign houses, but a bit hesitant to fully take the plunge. I fear the reorientation period, especially with long term clients whose charts resonate so well with them already. Especially those with 12th house planets moving to the first. How does one start the process? Thank you so much!
I know this is an ancient approach but is it more precise than modern calculations? Based on whole sign houses Pluto would have entered my second house in 2008 which would mean I would experience financial troubles. In 2010 I received a generous inheritance from a distant relative I was not close with which was enough for me to pay for college without loans which contradicts the whole sign method. I noticed the quadrant calculations were more precise because based on the orbs as Pluto was leaving my first house and entering my second house in 2015 I suffered a major loss from my investments which was not retrievable so I would say the quadrant was more precise in timing when it comes to transits.
Hi, Kelly! Thanks for explaining about WSH! I just “discovered” it and I’m amazed how it’s so simple and accurate. But I don’t see much about it being used in synastry and composite charts. Do you use them? I tested them using WSH and I found it really accurate as well! Better than with Placidus. Thanks and God bless you! 🙏💕
I always liked the idea of whole signs, in that, the houses and signs are two sides of the same coin. Charts are easier to interpret. However, I have found through extensive research and testing, that placidus or another quadrant based system yield better results. Whole signs ISN’T personal to the individual. 1000’s of people would have the same birth chart and this just can’t hold merit! Quadrant based systems account for the exact time of birth, down to the Minute! My chart is much more accurate in quadrant based systems. My whole chart composes of two stelliums – one in capricorn in the 12th (including cap asc), and one scorpio (sun, Mercury, Mars, and pluto) in the 9th! This is whilst using quadrant based system. In whole signs that cap stellium moves to the 1st and the scorpio stellium, to the 11th. So massive difference to me. 11th and 2st house topics do NOT pertain in any way to who I am as a person. But 9th and 12th house topics really resonate deeply! And describe me much better! My cap stellium is clearly evident in my chart as I am very spiritual and perhaps withdrawn. I am not “out there”, putting alot of energy into my presentation, my appearance, and being pro active. As a 1st house stellium would indicate. I am all about finding deeper and higher truths would is indicative of my 9th stellium in scorpio! I am NOT all about Co-operative behaviours and am not a group ordinated person who focuses on a common goal. Friends and associates are not a factor of importance in my daily.
Thank you for speaking about the Whole House System. Is it possible to consider BOTH houses when a planet or planets fall in one in Placidus and another using the Whole Sign system? An example: I have the Moon, Venus in Mercury in my 9th using Placidus and the same planets in the 10th using the Whole Sign system. Here’s an example: I began singing in Church in my twenties (Venus, Mercury, Moon in 9th) and eventually broadened my audience to include many more people (10th house). Your thoughts? Thanks!
can you help me please I was born in asyut- Egypt and i still living there on 04 january 1990 at 05:08 am I have many problems since 2015 till now I got married and 3 times till now and i feel sick alot and i did many surgery one in my eye and kidney transplant I decided to learn astrology to know myself more No one here helping me all they think about is just money I just want to know what issues in my chart is the cause of that ? My sight also is weak and I can’t work like i used to I waa a civil engineer then i became a project manager .. now I can’t work such jobs cause of my shight Thank you Regards
Have you ever used equal houses Kelly? It would also always make direct aspects by squares trines etc as it should as per whole sign charts like you described. In all the charts I have done it seems more accurate, but keep hearing whole sign houses popping up, so I try to use it and it doesn’t quite fit. I there any more information you could share please? I am in a pickle about this lol. Blessings to you, I love your website
In whole sign some of the planets in certain houses remained the same but some is inaccurate because some planets like Neptune in the 5th house whole sign ain’t resonate with me whstsoever and in placidus which is the correct position for Neptune is the 6th house. Ascendant is my Cancer but it is Leo in whole sign, not me at all with Leo. To me whole sign is a waste of time. I will stick to the original placidus.
I searched about the whole sign house system and it said it was very accurate. Then I checked my chart and I was just in confusion! My descendant became Scorpio when it’s supposed to be Sag since my ascendant is Gemini..? Also checked my friend’s chart using whole signs and her MC is now in the 11th house fron what I know the MC is supposed to be in the 10th. Is it really supposed to be like that since the housing system is different?🤔
Regarding the aspect argument (for example 5th house trine to Asc): the trine aspect is always there in quadrant house system if you consider in mundo placement. I think the truth could be somewhere in between. I cast charts using cuadrant house system. However, I’ve seen that sometimes a planet manifests itself both in the cuadrant house as well as in the whole sign house. For example, a planet in the 10th but in the 9th sign from the Asc manifests itself as a mix of both placements.
Oh my goodness this is so helpful!! I need to see a million more examples of this. 😅 I feel like I understand it but then I start to apply it to my own chart and my brain melts. Haha. So basic yet so complicated! I know if I watched the process repeatedly given different examples it would click. Is there a class you offer that gives a lot of demonstrations working with this interpretation technique? I would love to see more!
