Harry Potter: A History of Magic is the official book of the exhibition, a collaboration between Bloomsbury, J.K. Rowling, and the British Library’s curators. The exhibition showcases rare books, manuscripts, and magical objects from the British Library’s collection, capturing the traditions of folklore and magic at the heart of the series. The book, almost 3000 years old, was created by riveting together seven plates of sheet bronze. It is now available for viewing at the New-York Historical Society after a record-breaking sold-out run at the British Library.
The exhibition features real-world magical artefacts and history, as well as artefacts from the development of J.K. Rowling’s works. The Bewitching Collection of The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic is also part of the exhibition. Carefully curated by the British Library, the exhibition offers an unforgettable journey through the history of magic, from alchemy to unicorns, ancient witchcraft, and Harry’s Hogwarts.
The exhibition opened at The British Library in London in 2017 as a result of a collaboration between the British Library and the Curator’s team. The exhibition is now open at the New-York Historical Society, featuring rare books and manuscripts on loan from the British Library. The richly researched and fascinating exploration of magical history is written by the curatorial team and essayists Steve Backshall and the Curator’s team.
