Was Gwaine Aware Of Merlin’S Magic?

In the head canon, Gwaine knows about Merlin’s magic but never expresses his opinion on it. He is unaware of the dangers associated with magic, such as blades and wyverns. When Merlin asks Gwaine to escort him to the Valley of the Fallen Kings, Gwaine introduces himself as a stranger and defeats Dagr. In a tavern brawl, Gwaine helps Merlin and Arthur win, saving Arthur’s life. He is taken back to Camelot and treated by Gaius.

In “The Diamond of the Day: Part 2”, Gwaine finally discovers that Merlin has magic. All six of the Knights know about Merlin’s magic, but they all think they are the only ones to know. In 2024, Merlin is still alive, having forsaken his destiny for fifteen hundred years. Gwaine joins the others in playing a trick on Merlin during their journey, pretending to eat all the food and then producing the bowl they saved for him.

Merlin continues in his frantic rage, with the magic around the room and around Gwaine pushing harder. The temperature drops and the fire in the room seems to increase. One time, Gwaine spikes Merlin’s water due to his suspicions of the young warlock. They are all drinking, but not very much.

In summary, Gwaine is aware of Merlin’s magic but never expresses his opinion on it. He is unaware of the dangers associated with magic and is unaware of the consequences of his actions.

Gwaine, despite being aware of Merlin’s magical abilities, never expresses a personal opinion regarding them. He either awaits Merlin’s demonstration of his abilities or refrains from offering an opinion on the subject, whether it be positive or negative.

Why is Merlin called Emrys?

The name Emrys, derived from the Welsh word emrys meaning “immortal,” has a lengthy history in mythology and legend. It is believed to be the original name of Merlin.

Why is Morgana scared of Emrys?

Old Merlin, also known as Emrys, is Merlin’s alter ego who undergoes a transformation into an elderly man through the use of an aging spell. Gaius, the sole individual privy to his genuine identity, is compelled to consume a potion that enables him to revert to his youthful form. Meanwhile, Morgana harbors apprehension towards him, perceiving him as a harbinger of misfortune.

Who finds out about Merlin’s magic first?

Lancelot, the bravest and noblest knight, discovered Merlin’s powers in “Lancelot” when he witnessed Merlin using an enchantment on his lance to defeat the Griffin. Instead of turning him in, Lancelot promised to keep Merlin’s secret until his death. He was one of the few people who truly appreciated Merlin and cared about his well-being.

Edwin Muirden, a warlock, avenged his parents’ deaths at the hands of Uther and posed as a physician to heal Morgana. He quickly gained Uther’s support and convinced the court to turn on Gaius, making him one of the most intriguing villains in the series. Fans would have loved to see more adventures with Lancelot and Edwin before his untimely death.

Who kills Gwaine?

The Lancelot-Grail (Vulgate Cycle) portrays Gawain as a worldly knight and leader of his siblings, who demonstrates the danger of neglecting the spiritual in favor of the material world. On the grand Grail Quest, Gawain’s intentions are always the purest, but he is unable to use God’s grace to see the error of his ways.

When his brothers Mordred and Agravain plot to destroy Lancelot and Queen Guinevere by exposing their love affair, Gawain tries to stop them. When Lancelot returns to rescue Guinevere, a battle between Lancelot’s and Arthur’s knights ensues, and Gawain’s brothers Gareth and Gaheris are killed. This turns his friendship with Lancelot into hatred, and his desire for vengeance causes him to draw Arthur into a war with Lancelot in France. In the king’s absence, Mordred usurps the throne, and the Britons must return to save Britain.

Gawain’s death in a battle against Mordred is described in detail in the English Alliterative Morte Arthure. After returning to Britain from the continent, Gawain wreaks great slaughter on his enemies, killing the king of Gothland and being surrounded on a hill. He attempts to cut Mordred’s throat, but Mordred stabs him through the helmet.

Thomas Malory’s English compilation work Le Morte d’Arthur is based mainly on French works from the Vulgate and Post-Vulgate Cycles. Gawain is the first to declare that he “will labore in the Queste of the Sankgreall” but embarks on the Grail quest to gain more magical meals and drinks (metys and drynkes) from it rather than from a religious zeal or to save the Fisher King’s kingdom. One of Malory’s other French sources was L’âtre périlleux (The Perilous Cemetery), a poem about Gawain’s rescue of a woman from a demon.

Who seduced Merlin?

The Merlin and Vivien section in Tennyson’s Idylls of the King depicts Vivien as a seductress who seduces Merlin to gain his knowledge and power. The legend of Merlin and Vivien has survived through various versions, each blending elements from its predecessors with its own story line, character development, and social commentary.

The French Vulgate texts establish that Viviane is Merlin’s student and the woman he is in love with. In the Post-Vulgate version, Viviane is not in love with Merlin and traps him in a crueler way, reflecting the prejudice present in early Arthurian texts that women are important instruments in the downfall of even the greatest men and kingdoms.

In Malory’s Morte D’Arthur, Nenyve is not interested in Merlin and is plotting to take her virginity. Merlin’s behavior towards Nenyve shows his ineptness in courtly love and society, making him an outsider within the court. Malory’s placement of Merlin’s entrapment within the context of the work emphasizes this feeling of being outside of the court and being “other”. By getting rid of Merlin early on, Malory demonstrates that Arthur’s court can survive without magic, prophecy, and “the old way”.

After sealing Merlin up, Nenyve proves her purity and benevolence by saving King Arthur from Accolon. Malory also mentions Nenyve as the chief Lady of the Lake, making her an integral part of the Arthurian legend.

Who has the strongest magic in Merlin?

Merlin, a beloved fantasy show from the 2000s, has an ardent and loyal fanbase that remains active more than a decade after its last episode aired. The show featured a collection of magical characters that both challenged and supported the title character, from fallen priestesses to sorcerers of yore. Gaius, Merlin’s father figure and mentor, is well-versed in the ways of the Old Religion and has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of magical creatures, spirits, and other threats.

He is Merlin’s biggest ally and closest supporter, always there to guide and lend a helping hand to the young sorcerer. Despite its popularity outside the United Kingdom, Merlin’s fans are as immortal as Merlin himself.

Who knew about Merlins magic?

The tagline of the show revolves around Merlin’s magic, which is forbidden in Camelot. This is evident in The Dragon’s Call, where a suspected sorcerer is executed. Merlin must keep his powers a secret, and only Hunith, William, Gaius, Kilgharrah, Nimueh, Mordred and the Druids, Edwin Muirden, Lancelot, Freya, Taliesin, Gilli, The Cailleach, Julius Borden, Agravaine, Alator of the Catha, and many minor foes Merlin has defeated are aware of his powers.

Mordred will return in Series 5 and serve as a main character. Gaius, Kilgharrah, and Lancelot are the only main characters who know Merlin’s secret and are his long-time allies. Gaius is Merlin’s mentor and main confidant. In The Witchfinder, Gaius submits himself to being sentenced as a sorcerer to protect Merlin’s secret. Merlin proves Gaius’s innocence, and in The Mark of Nimueh, Merlin confesses to sorcery. The show’s plot revolves around these characters and their relationships with Merlin.

  • Gwen is so overhated. I know people ship merthur but Gwen is a great character. She’s clever, compassionate and kind. I ship both Arwen and Merthur. I think Gwens amazing.❤️ Also after Uther found out about Morgana he was broken and Gwen was still kind to him and took good care of him. Despite the fact that he killed her father and tried to put her to death more than once. She’s so supportive a good wife and friend.

  • My interpretation of the prophecy of Merlin that Arthur will unite the land is that he is the initiative and the conduit but it is really Gwen that will Usher the era of peace and new magic she is respected by all knights higborn and commoners and she has positive outlook on magic whilst arthur was still tainted by his past experiences and the opinion of his father but as he mellowed it down and also made Gwen queen so it was because of him…

  • I know I’m late with this comment, but I just finished the series yesterday. The end of Merlin is bitter, heartbreaking, but a real emotional masterpiece, and I love it. Legend has it that mighty King Arthur, and his loyal Knights of the Round Table peacefully sleep in the beautiful enchanted Crystal Cave below the holy land of Albion. They are guarded by the Lady of the Lake. And Merlin will wake them up when the world needs them the most. They will come, and protect us from evil, injustice, and give peace to the world once again. The prophecy says that Arthur will rise again, and make his kingdom in the modern age.

  • “Do I know him?” “Yes. He’ll take good care of Arthur” Even if Merlin never came back to Camelot. I like to think that Gwen knowing the man who was always by Arthur’s side, not a knight or anything, would never hurt or hang a sorcerer again. Maybe lock them up, or banish them from Camelot. But she’d know Merlin would’ve done everything he could

  • I hated the writers ending also. If they killed off Arthur I would’ve preffered if Gwen found out she was pregnant with Arthur’s son at the end even with Arthur gone. And that Merlin and Gaius were checking on each other through Letters. Or have Merlin return to Camelot as soon as he finds out Gwen has a son and show us the future were Merlin is always at little Arthur’s side and guiding him throughout his childhood and Telling him stories about his dad and their adventurers, see him become king..

  • The only character I can’t stand in this series is Gwen. That servant girl would do anything to have better life, first she flirted Merlin and told him “you’re enough, I don’t like a prince”, and then Lancelot came and she also flirted him… And when Gwen relationship became closer, there Gwaine and she kissed him… And of course after that Gwen cheated on Arthur with Merlin… What a bich…

  • This series went absolutely nowhere with a ridiculously unlikely scenario to start with never resolved in any way. I am sure Geoffrey of Monmouth was rolling in his grave with the usual BBC liberties taken with his story but with little imagination on tap to develop this travesty of the Arthurian myth once started.

  • my question is, gwen found out, but then arthur died and we never got to see merlin and gwen together again but why didn’t merlin and arthur take the dragon to avalon from the start 🤣instead of going on a horse for 2 days, they could’ve flown on kilgarragh within 2 minutes 😭 this show could’ve carried on but then again, no morgana, no party

  • I am at the end of season 4 and I still can’t see any chemistry between Arthur and Gwen, I try really hard, but I cannot… I honestly don’t care who disagrees, I don’t find the character of Gwen believable either. I liked her at season 1 very much, but after that, it seemed to me like Gwen wanted Arthur mostly so she can become a queen. This is my intuitive feeling and my opinion. I cringe hard whenever I see a scene between Arthur and Gwen, he also does not seem genuine about what he is saying and his feelings.

  • watching this show without knowing a single thing about the Arthur lore was stressful lol The only thing i knew was that Merlin was supposed to be an old man and Arthur’s uncle, so i was confused when Arthur wasn’t a little kid or something. i thought it was going to be all about Merlin’s earlier years or something. Great show either way though. is this how all the stories of Arthur go? He dies at the end and Merlin remains immortal waiting for him to come back to life somehow in the modern era?

  • I think they missed a great opportunity to use Arthur’s mother, imagine his reaction to see his wife again. To hear her view of his actions, to see her berate and scold him for his foolishness. I would’ve loved to have seen her put him in his place since he essentially used her death as an excuse for his actions. I also would’ve loved to see her and Merlin talk even if for a moment

  • I love the effort put into different people Merlin tells he has magic too . For Arthur’s uncle (its been a while since I watched the show so I don’t remember his name, I think it was Agrivaine?) He is stating it. He is talking without emotion or through calmned anger . He is stating it as a fact. He is telling him that he was born with it(magic) and that he is not to blame for who he is . With Uther, his voice is emotional, filled with pain and anger and hurt . He knows what Uther has done to his kind, and he would be executed without a second thought if Uther were alive . He also knows that Uther will blame and accuse him of training to earn magic and won’t see it as he was born with it . Merlin is defending himself and his voice is full of anger and defense and disguised hate and maybe even for a split second, he’s understanding morgana’s thirst for vengeance or realizing similar thoughts have been stirring in him too and he’s taking it all out With Arthur, he’s apologetic, Arthur has been his best friend and he kept such a big part of himself hidden from him . He is apologizing for not telling him, for lying to him and in a way, betraying him . Merlin is also hurting here . Arthur has only ever known magic to be evil, and has just been told that the man he trusts the most has magic . Merlin loves Arthur and understands that he has put Arthur in confusion and may have ruined the greatest bond he’s ever had with anyone. Sorry for the long post but these are my thoughts

  • I hate what they did to Uther’s ghost. I felt he had somewhat redeemed himself when he died. I think there was some closure. But to bring him back so evil and hateful towards Arthur was so wrong. Even though Uther was an a-hole I really don’t believe he would have been angry at Arthur for his choices as king.

  • I wish Merlin had quickly explained that he wasn’t only a sorcerer but he was the most powerful sorcerer to have ever lived. Would’ve loved to see Uther’s reaction to that. Also would’ve loved Merlin quickly interject with the fact that the last dragonlord was his father & he is now the last dragonlord. Not only the most powerful sorcerer ever but a dragonlord too.

  • I only wish that we could have had more scenes like this, where Merlin didn’t have to hide any longer and could unleash his magic in full strength for anyone to watch in awe. It’s so incredibly satisfying to see Merlin with all his power and in complete control after all that time hiding what he could do. This scene is a powerful little glimpse of that.

  • my heart goes to arthur, as well, for in his family, he was the only noble person. uther lied to him about his mother. uther lied to him about morgana and let it slide. merlin was needed in his life to lighten up everything. i wonder how arthur survived his life before came in to the picture. this show will forever haunt me.

  • Merlin is absolutely right. Uther is a fool and unworthy king. He was blinded by his hatred for Magic which led to the deaths of so many innocent men, women and children, his wife, Merlin’s father, Gwen’s father and many more innocent people and Knights of Camelot. Instead of accepting his mistakes he pushed those away who could’ve been his greatest defence and well-being of Camelot. He values no-one but himself, his kingdom and Arthur

  • All the mistakes made in the perfect “Merlin” series: 1. that the dragon killed innocent people. 2 .Arthur killed a man -that king. 3 .that gwen cheated on Arthur. 4. Merlin advised Arthur to refuse the witches of the desair and arthur did not accept the old religious belief. This is how it kept mordred alive. 5. Arthur executed the Druid girl and caused Mordred to turn against him. 6 .that the stable worker was killed only because of Gwen. 7 .that Arthur is killed! he should have lived and go back to the palace to rule with Gwen and continue to enjoy Merlin as a servant and to enjoy Merlin’s magic. 8.that in general magic wasn’t accepted in Arthur’s time and that it should be a distinction between good sorcerers and evil sorcerers and magic being used for good or evil. 9.also that in the past Arthur attacked a druid camp with his soldiers.
