What kind of practice is tarot?

Tarot card reading is a form of cartomancy where practitioners use tarot cards to gain insight into the past, present, or future. A traditional tarot deck consists of 78 cards, divided into the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. French-suited playing cards and any card system with suits assigned to identifiable elements can also be used. The first written references to tarot packs occurred between 1440 and 1450 in northern Italy, where additional cards with allegorical illustrations were added to the common four-suit pack.

These new packs were called carte da trionfi, triumph packs, and the additional cards known simply as trionfi, which became “trumps” in English. References to tarot triumphs continue throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, but there are no indications that the cards were used for anything but games. It was only in the 1780s, when fortune-telling with regular playing cards had been well established for at least two decades, that anyone began to use the tarot pack for cartomancy.

What is the psychology behind tarot cards?

Tarot readings employ the use of symbolism, intuition, and the human psyche to gain insight into the collective unconscious. This is achieved by accessing deeper layers of awareness that lie beyond the realm of conscious thought, with the imagery and arrangement of cards serving as a conduit.

Are tarot cards mysticism?

Tarot cards, originally used by Italian nobles and aristocrats as playing cards, evolved into a cornerstone of mysticism and spiritual exploration. They were initially used for skill, strategy, and luck in a game called “tarocchi”. However, they also had hidden potential for unraveling life’s mysteries, divining the future, and exploring the human psyche. Italy played a significant role in this transformation, with the Visconti-Sforza deck, created in the mid-15th century for the Duke of Milan, being one of the earliest surviving tarot decks. The deck’s intricate imagery and symbolism hint at a deeper, more mystical purpose, yet to be fully revealed.

Can Christians use tarot cards?

The ministry leaders are attempting to invite people to encounter God in the context of festivals, avoiding occult practices like tarot cards. They believe that these practices have no place in the kingdom and should not be used. The ministry leaders are attempting to contextualize the Gospel and bring people to the realization that God is looking for them and loves them no matter where they are. They value their efforts to minister to unbelievers in ways they can more easily receive it and in the places they are going, like New Age festivals.

The ministry leaders are attempting to connect people with the true God, as they did with the apostle Paul. In Acts 17:22-34, Paul spoke to a group of religious people who didn’t yet know God and lived in a city full of altars, idols, and various religions. He used a single altar in their city with an inscription to the “unknown god”, connecting them with the God of all creation. He wasn’t worried that they would get a wrong idea, as he would soon be introducing them to the true God.

In conclusion, the ministry leaders are attempting to reach people where they are with the truth and love of God, using the context of festivals and the Gospel to connect people with the true God.

Do tarot cards go against the Bible?

The Bible offers counsel against the practice of sorcery, divination, soothsaying, fortunetelling, and the use of mediums and spiritists. While tarot cards may be employed for the purposes of divination and fortunetelling, it is meditation and archetype exploration that offer a more suitable avenue for such pursuits.

Is tarot a form of therapy?

Tarot cards may not be a viable alternative for those seeking therapy for specific mental illness and trauma due to lack of research into their therapeutic potential. While they offer self-reflection and new perspectives, they lack the scientific foundation, professional guidance, and empirical evidence to be considered an alternative to therapy. Additionally, many Tarot readers lack qualifications or training, leaving more room for malpractice and potential bias.

As a self-taught Tarot reader, some people bring up emotions and issues that might require a more traditional medical approach, such as a clinical psychologist. Instead, they offer a community-based warm space to air out emotions, rather than diagnosing or providing medication.

What is the star for health in tarot?

The Star card in a health reading indicates a period of healing and a bright outlook on health, suggesting a strong connection with the spiritual side of health and healing. It encourages maintaining focus on overall health, including diet, exercise, and rest, and reminds individuals to recognize the fundamental principles of well-being.

When reversed, the Star card can lead to questioning one’s place in the universe and their capacity to overcome challenges. This reversal tests faith in oneself and the universe, encouraging spiritual footing and the presence of the Divine in life’s trials.

Love and relationships can also be reversed, signaling a loss of trust or focus on flaws in relationships, overshadowing the positive aspects. This can lead to self-doubt and a lack of confidence in romantic prospects. However, it is essential to remember that love often surprises us when we least expect it, encouraging individuals to let go of self-doubt and recognize their worth.

What are Tarot cards associated with?

Tarots were first used for occult and fortune-telling in France around 1780. Each card in the major arcana has a specific meaning, with the minor arcana focusing on business and career ambitions. The tarot deck is shuffled by the questioner, and a fortune-teller then lays out a few cards in a spread pattern. The meaning of a card is modified based on its position in the spread, its orientation, and the meaning of adjacent cards.

  • Me, looks at title: Seriously? This has got to be some ridiculous pop-psych bull crap. I don’t know much about it, but I’m pretty sure this is a highly nuanced and complex topic that most definitely cannot be decided in a few seconds….. Narrator starts speaking in British accent Me: Yeah, that sounds about right.

  • You can for sure be creative by being analytical. You pay attention to details 90% of your audience will never even see or even consider. Effort pays off, and all those tiny details add up to make a masterpiece. The same can be said for being analytical by being creative. “Think outside the box.” How are scientists able to invent new things? There has to be some degree of creativity to answer the unknown. In reality: be who you want to be 🙂

  • Art can be creative and analytical and math can be also creative and analytical and you need both. Example: A Artist needs to think if the logic of the painting makes sense (anatomy, lighting, perspective) and he also needs to make the painting interesting through his creativity. A mathematician needs to accurately solve the equations in a very analytical mode but needs to be creative enough to find ways to solve some problems.

  • I see a lot of people got the opposite of what they were expecting. I think “creative” here doesn’t imply an exclussively artistic expression but rather an intuitive or a cognitive mannerism; a visionary. “Analytical” simmilarly doesn’t have to include what first pops into your mind, like maths for instance, but rather in a way a psychologyst may be considered analytical for their thoroughness.

  • In this new age of technology and growth, all we seem to desire is quick-fixes. Finding out if you’re left-brained or right-brained with a single exercise is to practice poor science. Both hemispheres of the brain are useful in their own ways and participate in activities that are constantly associated with only one side: engineers can have artistic expressions, and artists can make use of mathematical logic and reasoning. All I desire is for us to face the truths of our reality, our mortality, and our humanity–for all the good and the bad. I know that we can become the truest humans possible: no longer in denial of the flaws and strengths that are attached to this existence. I talk about philosophical and societal topics that pertain to this growth. That is all, no more no less. May we never stop progressing and may we always learn from each other. Good day to you all! 🙂

  • What this is really showing is if you are right or left handed. A right handed person naturally has their right hand pinky at the base of the grip (with the left thumb over the right thumb), creating a stronger grip. Since their right hand/arm is typically stronger, and therefore feels more comfortable/natural. However left handed people are considered more creative and emotional, which seems to contradict the above correlation.

  • Most of the people I asked were left thumbers, even those who were horrible at 3D visualization or art. It turns out that this right-thumb left-thumb on top business has nothing to do with a dominant half of the brain. It’s all about genetics here. The “left thumb on top feels natural” gene is dominant over the “right thumb on top feels natural” gene. I’m a “right-thumber”, whereas both my parents are “left-thumbers”. This is possible because they both passed down the “right thumb is natural” recessive gene to me.

  • well, he said “most likely” so its not a 100 percent real. So not really persuading me cause me myself isnt really that creative or intuitive in a sense, although he said that if my left thumb is above my left thumb. I guess it really depends on how a person lives and how the environment influences his or her life.

  • The “weird” feeling that comes from switching your thumbs around is because you’ve broken the alternating pattern of fingers. If you shift the hand with the closer index finger down one notch so its behind the other index finger (and do the same for the rest of the fingers), suddenly the opposite thumb position will feel normal.

  • Does this count for hand holding? I realized as a kid that whenever I held someone’s hand one of our thumbs would be outside, the other in the inside and it would always be like that. I was curious so I asked a lot of people I was close to if we could hold hands, and I realized it was sometimes different. Sometimes my thumb would be on the outside, other times it wouldn’t be. It just felt unnatural if I tried to switch it. It’s not about hand size, I tested that. I’m just really confused.

  • This is weird because I took this test years ago. I remember my result was analytical. I was a nerd back then so it made sense. Now, I’ve been doing more creative projects like writing, and have myself realized that I’m more creative then when I was in high school. So taking this test again, I came out creative. I mean yeah of course that’s what happened but I always thought the leftright hand thing was permanent.

  • I think this is a bunch of shit because I am a pin up anime artist and was tld by another psychologist that I am right brained. Which is the creative side. but this dude just said because “I have my right thumb over my left because to me it feels more natural I am obviously left brained and analytical.” That’s crap. I am artistic and creative, I like abstract ideas and non planning. Trust me sir, you have never been so more wrong about me.

  • The fact that your thumb and your index finger from the same hand (right) touch each other when your left thumb is on top of your right thumb is just too uncomfortable. When your right thumb is on top of your left thumb, no fingers from the same hand are touching each other other so just more comfortable. Note: When I say “touch”, I mean being adjacent to each other; not that their tips are touching.

  • I find it odd how this could be used to determine anything. You’re fingers are to be crossing. One shouldn’t touch a finger from the same hand. It’s just a natural comfort thing and it’s helps keep the grip. My left thumb overlaps my right, but I’m the farthest thing from creative, didn’t need this experiment to justify that at all. I’m right side dominant so my right hands fingers will always naturally go behind my left hands fingers in terms of order.

  • Me: A right brained person with vast mechanical and engineering background plus a writer and student of Ethics and Philosophy. I can visualize words and pictures when talking to people to understand their descriptions of the stories they tell. I suppose I don’t qualify unless there is another article like that.

  • There is a flaw in this opinion. I was born left handed. I was a child in the 1960’s. I attended a private catholic school. The Nuns forced us to place our right thumb when clasping our hands on top. So even now 50 years later that is how I clasp my hands. My brain was trained to place the right thumb on top. Plus I was forced to write right handed. I am both creative and analytical. So this article provided no informational benefit to me.

  • 54:21 My rising is Virgo and let me tell you… this is what I have been feeling SO DEEPLY. I have been experiencing a shift in my life… Realizing how much people monopolize off of peoples vulnerability and sense of loss & direction here on social media and in real life… rather than ACTUALLY being a service and help where being led to help others. It’s a time of going within and finding our true selves, authenticity and getting the answers we need from the DIVINE by simply asking… hearing and submitting. Karleen I am so grateful for you and your journey and for standing out… Thank you for helping us. I can feel the energy behind you, within you and the vibrancy and enlightenment of it 🙌🏽💫🔥 Sending you lots of love 💕

  • I believe a lot of what you talked about here, I just celebrated my 40th birthday and it was so bizarre. So much was show to me. More of the ugly… but this conversation needed to be had! I have seen the same article he’s an Hindi Englishman… I have never really had this experience with women of color or women in general I often get bullied, talked about and shamed. This type of narrative is not always true. I see and hear your prospective and appreciate it!
