What Beliefs Did Elizabethans Have Regarding Astrology And Witchcraft?

Horary astrology was used to answer specific questions and detect curses and bewitchment during the Elizabethan Era. Electional astrology was still used to pick auspicious times to take action, time ceremonies and rituals, produce astrological talismans, and invoke spirits. However, many of these books promoted ideas about witches and witchcraft, leading to intensified witch hunts in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The Elizabethan period saw a renewed interest in the supernatural, including witches, magic, and ghosts. Queen Elizabeth had her own astrologer who she would regularly consult and always believe in. Every village would have someone, often an old wizened person. New Elizabethan superstitions arose due to the fear of witchcraft and the persecution of witches. Women were often accused of being witches, with 270 superstitions arising.

New renaissance thinking and books about Astrology, Alchemy, and Magic increased the interest in witchcraft, witches, and witch hunts even further. Superstition 2 – A witch was often portrayed as an old crone or hag (with no man to defend her against accusations of witchcraft). Superstition 3 – Witches are “foul and ugly” and “foul wrinkled”.

In the Elizabethan age, there was a great interest in the occult, magic, and witchcraft. Astrology was interconnected with a Hellenistic understanding. Queen Elizabeth I passed a new and harsher witchcraft Law in 1562, leading to witch hunts and the prosecution of witches.

During the witch hunts, people thought that cats were associated with witches and their black magic, which led to the belief in witches and their supernatural powers. The Elizabethan period was the Renaissance era where the beliefs of witches, magic, and the supernatural became more popular.

What was the astronomy in the Elizabethan era?

In the Elizabethan cosmological view, there are seven planets, with the moon and sun being the most prominent. Each planet is fixed in its own distinct sphere, numbered based on their distance from Earth. The spheres are concentric, with the Earth at the center. The planets’ spheres surround the elements’ spheres, with the moon’s sphere being outside the fire sphere. Despite the spheres turning together, each planet stays attached to its own sphere and can roam about following its own course. Christopher Marlowe refers to these planets as “erring stars” or “wandering stars”. The planets are concentric, with the Earth at the center.

What did the Elizabethans believe about witchcraft?

Witches, who had supernatural powers due to a pact with the Devil, were often accused of evil and were blamed for various misfortunes. They believed they had “familiars” that they could turn into to spy on people. The most popular familiars were cats and toads, which are why witches are often depicted with these animals. Most accused witches were poor, single women who had no protection. Many believed women were spiritually weaker than men, making them easier targets for the Devil.

Witches’ Sabbaths were often depicted with potions, flying on broomsticks, or worshipping the Devil. Once accused, they were tested through “ordeal”, often drowning them under water. This was believed to purify the water, making them guilty if they floated, and innocent if they sank. However, many “innocent” people drowned, highlighting the harsh reality of witchcraft during that time.

What did the Elizabethan people believe about astrology?

Astrology significantly influenced Elizabethan society, influencing personal lives and political decisions. It included casting horoscopes for royalty, choosing auspicious times for events, and predicting “fortunate” and “unfortunate” days. The Elizabethan Era, from 1558 to 1603, was a period of exploration, innovation, and intellectual curiosity, resulting in significant advancements in literature, arts, and sciences.

The English Renaissance flourished, with the establishment of the English Protestant church and the development of the English language, with notable contributions from Shakespeare and the King James Bible. The Elizabethan Era, characterized by Queen Elizabeth I, was a period in English history known for significant advancements in literature, arts, and exploration.

What are the Elizabethan beliefs?

The Elizabethans believed in a Great Chain of Being, where the queen controlled wealth and life chances, and inequalities were accepted. Despite being ruled by a queen, England remained a monarchy. Women had some freedom, and earlier views on family life were challenged. Poverty was often seen as a personal fault during Elizabethan times, but a shift in attitudes due to growing poverty and fear of social unrest led to the Poor Laws, which were introduced to support the poor and unemployed as the first form of welfare.

What was the fate and astrology in the Elizabethan era?

The Elizabethan era was a period during which the concepts of fate and astrology were widely embraced. It was not uncommon for affluent individuals to purchase horoscopes for their children and to seek the counsel of astrologers before making significant decisions such as marriage or travel.

What does Elizabeth say about witches?

Elizabeth refutes the notion of witchcraft on the grounds of Hale’s position regarding Rebecca, maintaining that such a concept is incompatible with the ethical tenets espoused in the Scriptures.

How did astrology influence Romeo and Juliet?

In Romeo and Juliet, astrology is used as a substitute for Fate, establishing a double correspondence between Juliet and the stars in an enlarged Petrarchan conceit. What is the astrology of Queen Elizabeth?

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, under the Taurus sign, an earth sign with a stoic strength. Taureans are cautious, discreet, and stubborn about sticking to their habits and beliefs. Astrologer Shelley von Strunckel described them as charming but secretive. Queen Elizabeth II’s Taurus star sign made her a perfect match for her future husband Prince Philip, who is fascinated by Gemini.

What superstitions did the Elizabethans believe in?

During the Elizabethan era, a number of superstitions were prevalent, including the practice of “knocking on wood” to ward off the evil eye, avoiding walking under ladders, which were thought to be associated with gallows and executions, and the use of pepper or salt sprays, which were believed to bring misfortune.

Queen Elizabeth I of England was a renowned astrologer, and her personal astrologer, John Dee, was also involved in astrology. Aries, a new beginning in astrology, is the theme of fate and fortune in John Gardner’s novel, Romeo and Juliet. The twelfth year of Grendel’s “idiotic war” is likely to be similar to all others. The concept of fate and fortune was central to the Elizabethan world, with zodiac signs and the wheel of Fortune playing significant roles in life. The role of Friar Laurence’s death in Romeo and Juliet is also explored.

  • I got obsessed with astrology, tarot cards, psychic readings and more. My parents always warned me about it but when I was 20yrs old I was going to a campus Methodist church that’s across from the college I was going to and a lot of friends that I met at the church were into all this occult stuff and they would bring stuff like jewelry and books to church and would talk about it and the pastor and his assistant didn’t think anything bad of it, so I got hooked since I figured the pastor thought it was ok. But In 2019-early 2021 I was so hooked on tarot card readings, that I couldn’t go an entire day without perusal my tarot readings from my dumb sign. I couldn’t sleep and I always felt like I was being watched, so I suddenly felt scared as well. September of 2021 I ended up getting sick out of no where and my exams, x rays, ultra sounds, ct scans, etc all were coming out good, no signs of me being sick. So I started going to church and I did personal ministry and have gotten so many deliverances done because one wasn’t enough and yeah some people think “oh it’s a deliverance. Everything will be ok,” but man those deliverances were physically painful to me because when the demons were manifesting, they manifested by attacking my body. It was so painful that I would scream so loud. People think it’s fake or a joke, until it happens to them. These kind of stuff ain’t no joke. Horoscopes, astrology, crystals, tarot readings, mind reading, spells etc seem childish but it ain’t a joke.

  • I had a friend that I knew since highschool who got super wrapped up in Astrology. He attributed every single thing that happened to astrology and would always talk about it. He was big into witchcraft and even had a real witch friend (His ex, and very toxic person btw). I even started getting wrapped up in it as well. I always had a good friendship with him, but he just gradually became arrogant and petty and stopped being a real friend. Towards the end, he was talking about seeking Lilith for personal gain. I ended up cutting him off because our friendship had devolved into superficial BS. I didn’t realize it at the time, but now I can see that God removed that connection from my life so that I wouldn’t go down with him.

  • Deuteronomy 18:9-12 9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee

  • Because of you, I threw out my Chrystals I Was So Admit About This “MY DOUBTS WAS DIRECTED TO ME THROUGH THIS website” I NEVER WANT TO UPSET GOD HE IS A MERCIFUL GOD. I ALSO BEEN STOP READING ASTROLOGY BUT WAS NOT FAR AWAY FROM THE SOURCES (THANK YOU) ESPECIALLY HOW YOU SAID…SHES A GEMINI OH I KNOW HOW THIS INDIVIDUAL IS LIKE…WE CURSE OURSELF THE WAY WE PERCEIVE THINGS. 🗣️I APPRECIATE YOU FOR CLARIFYING THE LORD COMMANDMENTS ETC.

  • My ex would always bring up peoples Signs and how they relate to it. 🙅🏽‍♂️ But get this, her aunt went to witch school and became a witch and used crystals and all those type of things lol… kinda glad she broke up with me a year ago. She truly wasn’t for me, but God shall provide me with a God Fearing women. 🙏🏽

  • I also have come to find that astrology and divination not only lead to manipulation, but also pride. When you dive into that type of knowledge, you make decisions on a bigger picture that you still can’t see fully, even though divination works. It does show you secret things, but there are reasons we aren’t supposed to know certain things. We don’t know the end of every story and divination influences our decisions, and you feel power from the knowing, but generally the choices made based on that information is not aligned with the will of God. He tells us everything we need to know. We just have to listen. He will direct us better than any other.

  • I used to be into astrology and Tarot readings… but knew in my gut and from studying the Bible that it goes against God. I never went to a “Psychic” that didn’t have religious pictures and items everywhere, and I was always confused by that until my Christian sister pointed out to me that some of these people ( who can be very accurate; again, Satan!) are not even aware themselves that they are given these abilities by demons. Satan doesn’t care who he uses or fools as long as he accomplishes his goal, which we know is to keep you from God. Peace and Blessings everyone, and thank you Marc!

  • I have to be honest I don’t have the same views as you, but what I truly believe is, if you use these resources for manipulation, the spirit of manipulation is the issue, not the knowledge. Double edged sword with all knowledge, including the Bible’s knowledge. The perverse low vibrational thinking patterns of controlling others is against everything Jesus taught. The spirit of fear and anxiety is what drives people to get addicted to wanting to know the unknown. I believe these tools are helpful for understanding the things that may influence personality, these things don’t control the personality, unless you are UNCONSCIOUS of your own patterns. If you are filled with the spirit, you have no need to control, hate, nor abuse another! I love how you mentioned that you became bored of it. This is a huge sign of spiritual growth. There is no need for obsession over this knowledge. It’s to be seen, analyzed, gain awareness from, then moved on from. Sending you so much Peace and love to you brother. Keep going on your path! Don’t let anyone sway you off! You’re beautiful!!!!!

  • Strong message!! I didn’t believe in horoscopes. however I was manipulated by someone I was talking to at the time. When she read my sign reading and her sign reading it sounded so real. I could feel someone talking to them as they were reading. So I would continue to like reading articles. I was looking for answers Not known I’m continuing to allow these negative things to come towards me in the spiritual world!! I just watched a article where a guy pray to get these bad spirits away!! I love stars or whatever!! But I don’t feel I need to hear a message from someone who doesn’t go all the way on the path of God!! I think it’s one of your articles where it says the scripture is already written!! I feel the answers I need is in the Bible and/or Book Of Mormon!!

  • I thank and love you man for opening people eyes and making them realize that astrology and horoscopes is demons. Also, God did pull you out of disliking horoscopes because like you said months after you were done with it . Your friend called and said it was demonic. Now that was a sign from God telling you that horoscopes are demonic. Keep up the good work, love you man

  • Ok to be honest I used to very into that stuff, but looking back on it it never made me truely happy, but confused instead. Later when I wanted to throw away my tarot cards I just didn’t want to for some reason, but thank God I remember something someone said to me once ” The more you want something the more you got to get rid of it.” So in the end I did throw it away and after that God showed me even more things to throw away, like some crystals or old jewelry from my ex or old friends I don’t even so no more. Something within me told me to not throw it away, but I had I strong urge that I could not ignore and THANK GOD FOR THAT!!

  • Before I started taking Christianity seriously, I also got bored of Astrology because I never really cared about nor paid attention to any of the horoscopes, I just cared about the signs and their personalities. Before I quit Astrology, I started getting obsessed with the “zodiac compatibility” bs and I am a “Cancer” according to Astrology so from what I remember I think it would say things like I will only be successful with other “water” signs (Which are “Cancer”, “Scorpio”, and “Pisces”) and “earth” signs (Which are “Taurus”, “Virgo”, and “Capricorn”). I do believe that Zodiac signs might be a part of the demonic witchcraft because it leads people to depression because they are worried about if their husband/wife will divorce them due to the horoscope or their zodiac incompatibility when in reality they should be dependent on God and not some Satanic voodoo fortune teller giving them some demonic horoscope or some Satanic voodoo website explaining compatibility between different zodiac signs. I also have a Zodiac sign poster in my room from my Astrology phase and I wonder if I should get rid of it because I really want to follow Christ but I do have some signs of Demons being near me because I always feel tired and I always have different aches and pains daily and even my father and I fight sometimes even though both me and my father are very Christian so I wonder if the Zodiac poster is letting out Demonic Spirits because I have NOTHING else that has a secret Demonic side to it.

  • Ahhh true words. I love to look at charts of people to understand them better. Composit charts is pretty accurate. I got so hurt by people that now i got weary However i know astrology is super imprecise You have 9 planets in 12 signs and houses forming aspects to several You are not just a sun or moon sign but a lot a lot of other things a friend of mine has like the same chart Kind of similar life but totally different person Its incredible vague but interesting to look at A new born i always check to see the mood of the parents. But i know to take as optional There is nothing set in stone. You cant see personality disorder nothing I learned so much anout psychology learning about astrology And how different people are But you said it We have to obey I have already thrown out all my books i loved and had for 20 years But i occationally looked at peoples charts when i met them I need to stop Thank you

  • im native american indian we believe in worshiping the earth our mother and the sun as father and also the moon and celebrating summer and winter equinox which is celelbrating the end of the ahrvest season and the beginning of new life of the plants trees herbs and animal life what is your take on that

  • When you say there is some truth in the horoscope, what do you mean by that ? It always sounded wrong to me, even when I was far away from God. I remember when I would go through newspapers and notice horoscope, I would be surprised how can someone write something like that and label someone in a certain way just because they are born in whatever mother they’re born. That does not describe your character at all.

  • I refuse to rely on these cookie cutter horoscopes. I do not believe that every person is experiencing the same thing at the exact same time because of their zodiac sign. There is no way one horoscope can apply to everyone. Monolith is the word people are using now. We are not a monolith. I would rather seek Yahweh for a sure word just for me and where I am.

  • The reason it worked when you were following it is because YOU believed it, you were using your beliefs to attract the reality, once you got bored it started to fade away, then you manifested a book which you believed now you see your world through that lense. Whatever you believe comes true, believe in God you’ll manifest signs god is looking out for you(if you believe God punishes people for wrongdoings you are taking part in God will manifest as a heavy handed parent instead of a loving forgiving god that punishes nobody, get Into tarot believe it and it works, you predict your future and then you start to become scared because you don’t know how it’s possible then you go into denial and see tarot doesn’t work after all it was just coincidence, or maybe you think it’s demons helping you see the future and then you get uneasy around the cards and put them in the trash and read the Bible instead choosing to believe it and see signs of God and vow never to go near the “evil occult” again ect….. Again the common denominator is YOU Be careful what you believe and what kind of God you believe is out there because that is most often the results you’ll get, simply believing life is hard will create a harder life, simply believing you are a chosen one and god is guiding you will affect your reality and perceptions of it, since you are the one creating your reality, and it’s perhaps no more than perspective at all, perceptions are reality.

  • Astrology is not witchcraft & if people were taught about it properly vs generic meanings from Google or trivial generalizations from Twitter the world would be better off. The government is what is witchcraft & they know all of these things. Knowledge is power. Knowledge of self is potent too. The Lord (lowered) is not the term you believe it to be 😮

  • I know it been a year since u made this article I remember last year I was going through the most till god call me I know how u day going to church on Sunday is not good cuz u should has god in your life everyday but since I been doing people looking at me weird what I don’t do no more u right u going have people that look at u some type of way

  • If you do not know why Enoch is not in the Bible then please do you research beforehand. It’s not in the Bible for a reason & saying I don’t know is a bit intellectually dishonest & careless. The Bible is the inerrant word of God so if Enoch is not in there (it’s consider more psuedepigrapha/apocrypha/deuterocanonical) then we should take it with a grain of salt for it is God Himself that said not to add or subtract anything from His book lest it be in promotion of evil. Thank you ^^

  • I loved the story about “blowing yourself up.” I blew myself up five years ago when I did a ritual, calling on Mars to clear out obstacles, lit a candle and within 15 minutes nearly burned down the house I was living in. Fortunately I got the fire put out just as the fire department showed up. But a day later I looked at that corner of my bedroom where the altar had been. Literally everything in that corner had been burned and cleared out. A day later I was asked by the landlord to leave. I actually got what I needed. I needed to leave that living situation because living there was an obstacle, but it was a terrifying lesson in how powerful magic is! I have another story that was as powerful, but not as deadly. The magic went the way I wanted, but had over-the-top unexpected side effects. Powerful stuff! :-/

  • I have been studying and practicing astrology for over 25 years, and magick for 20. Personally I find that we have the paradox of both free will and destiny happening in this world. I believe it is because we have a non physical part of us that manages the destined points in our lives as well as our free will coming in to play to alter our experiences according to our choices and responses to these destined points. We can use both astrology and magick as well as other esoteric practices to assist us in knowing that which we can alter and that which we cannot. This has been my experience. Great podcast! Thank you guys.

  • Really enjoyed listening to your conversation. Now in over fifty years astrology and etc. what comes to mind right now? The greatest magic I have discovered is the practice of intuition. This magical practice bypasses linear thinking and links me at once with all practical guidance and energetic connection to Love.

  • Loved that this went into the free will vs fate discussion. This is a hard one. I’d always been under the impression that we had free will within limitation although after studying astrology that really made me wonder how much free will we actually have. Not much I dont think. It may feel like it but I think its largely an illusion. While I dont think everything is pre determined and that we do have will, I think it’s more like a range of choices and even then, the choices we make are largely dependent on our genetic predisposition, past experiences, what our body currently needs, the state of mind were in etc… so how free is that really? Humans are very predictable. They say 95% of our actions are made from our subconscious mind. So that leaves 5% and I think to claim we are using our will with that 5%, we need to master both awareness and detachment.

  • Also Aluna Ash 9D came out with a bunch of multidimensional astrological tarot magic etc content in 2018-2019. Her programming on YouTube exploded an entire audience…I’m personally way more Interesred in astrological magic since then. And I’ve discovered Austin Coppock on the Astrology Podcast, and excited to keep learning

  • Ps; since everything dances, even on subatomic level its own dance of quantum entanglement, everything can for a certain amount of time, due to the snap/ focus of awareness, interact with everything else and wave it and to it, so everything is one big event of magic going on….sending a smile wave😀 to the podcast 😆

  • Do you have an episode on how to use the Picatrix? I’m having such a hard time learning the principles of that text exclusively via reading. Listening to a lecture about its application would really help relieve some of the confusion. I have watched a lot regarding the Picatrix, but I think you and Austin would it explain it the best….possibly try to get Clifford Hartleigh Low, the moderator for the Stellar Sorcery FB group on that episode as your guest host! I’d be willing to be a producer for a series on this topic!!!

  • This is an excellent episode. Thanks for this discussion. An idea for another discussion or at least something I’m wondering about: what are your thoughts on astrology from the perspective of the other planets? How would Earth affect hypothetical life on Mars or any other planet? Do you believe there’s is a cumulative effect from all celestial bodies on all other celestial bodies in the universe? Like, maybe we don’t necessarily feel the effects of a certain far off planet in another solar system, but the planets within our solar system do feel them, and therefore we get those residual effects through our planets and stars?

  • I bought a psychic card reading at a fair and she told me some real info and then said that a family had cursed me and that I needed to give her $80 to fix. I walked away but I am not gonna lie it kinda stuck with me as the rest played out some things did not play out like she said. I just use my instincts to pick who I get services from now . I agree ethical business practice will never ask you that.

  • Mercury ruled and am drawn to magic. 🧙🏼‍♂ I really enjoyed the talk, especially the section on drawbacks and advice to work with the benefics. A couple of years ago, based on some works shared by a couple astrologers/tarot readers I’ve worked with, I invoked the graces of Venus through sigil work. Speaking to her as the morning star, my Beloved returned the next day. (I did not call for ‘them’ specifically but for more Love in my life that I feel when I am with them, Authentic and Divine). Coincidence? I thought not as I’d not had any connection with them for almost 2 years. I’ve been really careful in my practice since, primarily continuing to study. ✨💛💫✨

  • Love the podcast and the Series in general. I apologize if this has been brought up before but Austin states that Crowley’s idea of Will was contradictory to the concept of Astrology. My understanding of what Crowley meant was what he referred to as the True Will of a being, that which followed along with who each person was truly at their core, which might or might not be in accordance to what they wanted or willed in any given moment. It seems to me that the birth chart may be one of the truest, if not the truest indicators of what one’s True Will is (in the Crowleyan sense)

  • Once I understood that fate and free will are the same thing, I felt liberated. Fate or karma are the consequences of our action or will. Our will is our essence (and not something we “have”). I highly recommend Vic DiCara for anything related to this topic. It’s interesting to add magic and think about how it can influence the momentum we’ve created by our actions. As long as humility and a dharma alignement intention are present I assume.

  • IF I know myself and my limitations, I can often shift them. For me, acceptance changes the nature of almost everything. In this, I can Earn the ability to wield my free will, to mold a COcreated experience, but it does cost. It requires my making Peace with my present truth – not to mention a hard-won surge of *focus*. (Often time consuming & emotionally taxing, on my path.) Still, I’m convinced we hold the potential to “change our stars”. That said, Magick & Astrology have truly become 2 sides of 1 coin in my mind: our life force in action (sometimes full blossom) & the study of that life’s experience here. Wild to hear them separated and fascinating! As always:)) Thanks so much for this guys! Can’t wait to learn more from you both!!

  • I’m feeling frequency is key to fate. If we are operating from a lower frequency, the affects of our chart is like the wounded level of our chart. At a different frequency, which people can be born into when our collective moves into those frequencies, then these wounds become gifts, and then Divine Attributes. At a lower frequency, I think we have lost free will. At higher frequencies we understand more of what was once hidden, and magic may even become a science, just as a phone would be magic 200 years ago. Knowledge to me is about frequency. This is when free will can be engaged. To me consciousness is a relative factor on choice and what is created. Right now the collective frequency is too low to understand this possibility and see these correlations with the celestial body movements. I also add changing fate through actions to me is dualistic. Where if we hold gifts and Divine Natures, we are out of the dualism and we emanate our life from within. To me the dip into this dualistic light/dark world is training to understand the results of our creations if unchecked. They only way to truly appreciate what can happen when our full creative emanation is released without pure intention, is to live it. Which is what we are growing up through at the moment.

  • Fabulous program! A really mystic academical and yet practical approach to both, magic and astrology, and what the different schools of mysticism offer us views and interpretation of our cosmology, and our part inside what seems to be a patterned system, that can be interpreted to anticipate certain events and sail them more victoriously.

  • 2:15:30 practicing magic without a proper school of thought… piecing together my own brand from 2002-2009 I would say it spectacularly blew up in my face and the person I am today was rebuilt from the wreckage, more comfortable to accept my fate. I rarely petition any spirit and even so, it is typically to ask they accept an offer of gratitude and consentual communion.

  • With the process described by Austin, astrological magic (magick?) seems to capture an energetic moment, as it is described in the chart of the time the object is created, and prolong that combination of energies and intensify it. Fate could predetermine this event, and the practitioner could simply be an agent of the event that has already been predicted. Meaning, the practitioner might believe themselves to act in „free will”, but in reality is just executing the predetermined process of the universe. One could also look at this as that the universe, God, whatever we want to call it is always acting out a predetermined set of events, namely fate, but we as individuals are an extension of the universe. So we don’t act independently of fate, our choices are part of fate. They are the universe itself acting according to its own will through us.

  • If you understand magic and astrology with your heart, you know thoughts and concepts keep you from ever seeing the ultimate truth. Are the planets conscious, can you talk to them, are they willing to interact? Try loving your natal chart, to discover your ultimate ruler inside. Try to understand how the solar system could be based in deception, being a solar system of the beast. Could the real sun be black, could it be in your heart. Could that ‘sun’ out there be our love reflected back. Telling us about this place, this life and love. The ancient ones could feel it. Somehow that ability has gone. It’s because of the beast-system, and the chatter in our minds. You are the great magician, your heart pumps out wishes, more powerful than the light of the ‘sun’

  • As far as the debate on fate and free will goes I think both Porphyry and Iamblichus were right to a certain degree. The process of alchemical transmutation is an adjustment on the spectrum of any given area of life (and the individual soul as a whole). The way I had it explained to me is to think of temperature: hot and cold are just two different ends of the spectrum, and the transformation comes by adjusting the temperature to a more moderate or preferred degree. That’s why it is a transformation of led to gold rather than a leaf to gold; both of them being metals. Magic is the medium of this transmutation and we look at our natal chart to understand our predispositions so as to cultivate our strengths and mitigate the effects of our weaknesses. I think it is also hard to wrap our heads around the idea of fate and free-will since we experience time as linear when it is in fact a circle. The future alters the past. This comes from the concept of time being the image of eternity (aeon). So who knows, maybe free-will and fate exist simultaneously and when we see our future we are only looking at the choices we make, or perhaps that is the Jupiter in Pisces of my 9th house talking. Either way, very good and thought-provoking episode.

  • What if the Divine allowed our souls to go on a trip which, at the end, was our Desire. We start that trip, destination hidden, but are given a map (astrology) and a GPS (magic, ritual, religion, enchanted Universe synchronicity…) to help us maneuver poor road signs, traffic congestion, and roadblocks that occur in this 3D world. Some folks never look at the map. Some folks look at the map, but never use the dynamic tools. If we are observant and proactive, perhaps the trip is less tedious, less trying. If we are observant and proactive, and the journey still seems long and gray, perhaps our soul chose the most sacred of destinations. Namaste dear Chris, and Austin…

  • Chris l too look forward to the day when astrology can be viewed and regarded as an honorable tool for our society to utilize! Still, in my mid 30s as I’m dating have to hear or just SEE the judgment from these guys when I tell them I study astrology.. 😑…. then most of the time if I go into talk on birth charts they still don’t care 😤.. lol

  • You’re so right Chris, if only Astrology were respected in the scientific world. It would have helped pinpoint that 2020 would likely be the year for a pandemic outbreak that is especially dangerous for elderly people (as everything was in Capricorn) and could have saved thousands of lives by for example ordering lots of masks ready… Science knew a pandemic was on the way, but not when, Astrology knew that 2020 would be a terrible year…

  • When discussing fate and free-will I think it’s important to put it within a greater philosophical context. If our lives are scripted, either in part or from start to finish, I believe it’s necessary to then address who or what is writing the script? Has God, or a God written your life from start to finish, if so to what end? Simply to watch it all unfold for amusement? Or has a Godess written your and all lives on this earth in order to entertain her God friends? No, but What your core view of life and the purpose of it is, must be a starting point when discussing fate and free-will. If you prescribe to Hermetic, or Kabbalistic philosophy, as well as Vedic and Buddhist philosophy, that all have a supreme being, the All, the One, separating in order to create creation, where effectively you and what I call I, are little shreds of that being trapped and hiding from the All we once came from, and the goal, as it were, in all these traditions, is to somehow realize and reunite your consciousness with the All, through incarnation the soul, wrapped in a spirit trapped in a body where lives lived are meant as lessons or trials and tests in order to move up from reincarnation to the next phase towards reunification with the One. In such a scenario, who is writing your script at birth, is it your soul who writes her own story, leaving some things open, “ok, let’s see how I’ll do here, will I go with A or B” and locking up some parts of your story as unavoidable events, where the purpose is to live through them and see how you’ll handle them.

  • In Islam we believe that astrology is hak/haq which means true and valid and from Allah. However, we believe that dua/asking Allah for whatever you want can change fate. We believe that visiting your family members extends ones life and donating to the poor extends life. Funny because i read a study years ago in a psych class, that showed that Christians who donated to church vs none donater church goers had longer lives.. So we do believe that there are these correlations but we also believe that we make choices. Allah is just, he wouldn’t create us with a destiny we can’t choose. However we do believe he knows where we are headed…Fate is complicated and a mystery.

  • You know what: I believe you cannot fully Understand Astrology and how/when/why it affects us without knowing a little bit about Quantum mechanics, the aspects of the planets are behaving just like any two waves affect each other. And even the probability you can apply the probability functions on it too. Do You think that could be right?

  • Ohhhh that was very good thanks 🙏 💖☀️and yes sometimes through my “not knowing” some very weird things have happened over the time… I’m digging the learning, it’s filling many gaps of curiosity that began over forty years ago it was on the surface for many years … much appreciated….between Gordon W, You guys, Kaitlin C and other study I feel have some of the best “Real teachers” in my life now…..synchronous in how it all fits together …. amazed and grateful thank you 🙏

  • There are three different types of fate: those things we can choose freely, those things that can be changed to a certain degree through our own effort, and those things that are unchangeable. As everything is arranged by God for our highest good, the best way to approach life is through the practice of gratitude for all, along with altruistic love in everything we do.

  • Chris, the fore-knowledge argument for astrology does not hold water. If a loved one is suffering from a terminal illness, fore-knowledge exists; the suffering of facing the eventual death is not thereby alleviated in any measure. Perhaps a better value is a means of sorting through options when one does not know what to do or decide in a given situation.

  • Oddly, I listened to the beginning before and missed the mid to last half probably thinking it was about electional astrology. It is, but… I started becoming curious of this subject in maybe 2015 or 16 because a pattern existed where really bad things happened to others who were trying to be manipulative behind the scenes. Sort of like coworkers who’d get bad reviews, somehow say it had something to do with me, then bad things would happen to them be it a car crash or some random person for no reason beating them up on their vacation. Weird stories, just noticeable and I then wondered why some got away with things and actively engaged with non astrological techniques where those said things happened but maybe not exactly how I thought they would. Backlash? Maybe, but not anything that isn’t indicated in my natal chart would deem bad, but likely things that are beneficial to whatever chart interest/dynamic I’d have. For example, I wanted to experiment with a type of astral projection to terrorize someone I hoped ill health on. Did it work? No, but 3 months later it did. Health part, bullseye. Astral projection? No, but about 3 home care nurses in recovery quit where my mom (who is now a retired head of a hospice) had to step in until another replaced them and there was major poltergeist activity like glasses flying off tables and table moving across the room or flipping over until it calmed. The backlash would be this was during lockdown and that made my mom a religious literalist already into conspiracy theories who went off the deep end getting into David Icke literalism; that’s part of why I’m so well versed in conspiracy theories.

  • I’ve been pulled into this subject recently, in honor of my natal cardinal placements I can say: what I’m finding is fascinating but would be better applied by someone who’s more interested in the topics. 😂 With the beginning of the episode, I am extremely lucky/fortunate to have gone to school when and where because I was able to avoid (just barely) when the department of education began being used to politicize public education. This started around Bill Clinton’s last term started by the right wing to groom future gop voters. It then shifts back and forth into a dumpster fire of ideological bs. When I went to school, teacher taught how to think, it was the parents role to deal with “what”. Related to how science went from a “method” to a “religion”. This sort of ties into cross cultural astrological magic, more tied to a persons spiritual practices. This is where I’m finding things fascinating while also feeling a person or persons more interested could actually do a much better job. For me, I like finding mutually connecting patterns as opposed to deep dives in those topics. In getting into Celtic myth (this actually crosses many cultural barriers), it ties much more to Hindu beliefs where, even though they grew apart and are more regional, certain cores are still present. For the episode reference to Neptune: “The lutin or sprite is there fore an avatar of the god Neptune, reduced to the rank of a simple water demon, which is confirmed by a seventh-century sermon attribured to the Pseudo-Eligius.

  • There would have been no point for God to create us humans if He hadn’t arranged for us to possess a certain degree of choice/free will in our lives. We are here to be co-creators with God. And we also have Karna, so varying degrees of pleasant and unpleasant experiences exist in our lives, due to our past actions, which should then lead us to a higher place and vibration, if we practice gratitude for everything daily…. 💕 The aim is spiritual evolution; we can make certain choices, but the most important choices are those chosen out of love and positivity, regardless the expectations we possess…. ❤

  • You know what the most interesting podcast would be that you guys could do? Look up a plethora of murderers and see if they (most of them, or some of them) have the fixed star algol that plays a big role in their charts. That would be an amazing episode. Maybe even you guys could check on tragedy during different algol conjunctions.

  • Does magic just muddy the data that would otherwise be integrated by natural adaptation? Suddenly the intuition gets sort of arrested or stunted because you’re focussed on the specific data points of the magical intervention rather than letting the whole present mind integrate all the data points holistically. Astrological mindfulness seams possibly more practical and impactful in the latter paradigm.

  • OMG at the 1hour mark they’re actually fighting? =-??? I’ve never seen Chris like get upset before. He’s do android I didn’t think that was possible. Wow. … & This is also great! =-D! This is like 2 high end professors (pH.D’s) arguing, almost like the two professors on the movie, “Good Will Hunting” ;-D!

  • Ok, since astrological magic was kept secret and only fortunate sages were able to learn this, what will happen in todays times when millions of people are doing this magic and the requests to the planets are conflicts of interest? One election done saying …. dear Saturn…..get rid of this person. Another,at the same time….dear Saturn….keep this person (the same person). Wont this annoy and possibly anger the spirit of the planet or fixed star or what? Cause confusion? I mean hundreds and more making stupid requests?

  • 38:19 With the exeption of Zoroaster, Religions that survived the State accommodated & supported the State. And the State was all about controlling the people. Therefore, religion which adopted Astrology and accommodated the State, was pro-fatalism. The Zoroastrian religion struggled to maintain its self-determinative flavor tru many attempts to coerce it. Christianity wasn’t so lucky.
